- For this video I use some left over Plasti Dip to mod my Harbor Freight 5 drawer mechanic's tool cart by US General. I'm not the best rattle can artist so be nice. This is for informational purposes only.

I've only had to repaint one of the drawer pieces. I really didn't expect it to be as durable as it has been.
Tooth picks work nicely for peeling off plasti dip, no worry about scratching the paint.
I was thinking about trying another color. Any suggestions?

My boy Clayton Scheiber picked up a used 4 drawer at a yard sale and made a Rhino Lining version. I thought it looked SO cool.
I scuffed drawer handles up with some scotch brite and then painted with artists brush with black acrylic it gave me a permanent bond. The emblem comes off pretty easy it is just glued and glue it back on with super glue gel or just leave off completely and install new decal or emblem they readily available in most brands.Blessings.

@@DaleLucid sounds good I am also reconditioning some older tools as well ex. large adjustables and pipe wrenches.I spend about 2 hours prepping and about 10 minutes painting, I think where most fail is they rush and make mistakes not getting it properly roughed up and clean to prep for paint, it takes time to do it and the result is a good bond that will last years and years.
Maybe US General saw your video because the series 3 carts now come with the black trim and letters.
I was looking for a way to add like a peg-board style tool holder to the lid of the cart, you have any ideas on doing that?
I hate permanent mods so I would bolt magnetic tool hander bars on either side of your pegboard through the pegboard holes. You would have a good offset for your hangers, the magnetic bar is very strong, and it isn't permanent.
BTW. I think that Home Depot Husky's version of the tool cart has a pegboard like system on the side of the cart.

The socket rails aren't secured. I like to be able to take a rail out when I'm working on something. They do just fit as placed so they won't move around or fall over.

Vinyl wrap is permanent?
Seen it pulled off cars revealing perfectly preserved paint. This is after being on it for years.
Would it be different if on the tool cart?
The only example I gave that was probably "permanent" or at least maybe troublesome is painting. If it seemed like I was implying that the other examples given were permanent then I'm sorry for the gap. Thank you for sharing your thoughts.
Harbor freight makes black trim pieces you can replace the chrome with. They’re pretty cheap too.
I did change to those later. This video is before they came out with the black ones.
Will harbor freight let you buy their floor model tool boxes if they aren't in stock?
I think that they clearance display items and returned or damaged stuff. 🤔 Word us that there are currently delays in their supply chain due to circumstances beyond their control. They have prioritized managing the issues. I hope that helps.
flip the door trim to the black side and call it a day. Having my for 8 months of hard use every day and still looks new. I was going to paint them but I found this easy and durable not worring about chipping or peeling paint

Dale Lucid Mark Pierson wait the trim on every drawer is black? How would u turn them around? I mean they wouldn’t go back in since is folded on one side to attach to the drawer can you make a video doing this!?

They are plastic. I didn't have to prep much. Just wiped em' down and hit. Them with the PlastiDip. Pics don't really do it justice. Just a note I probably don't use my cart as much as a tech but it has held up so far. It's easy to pull those trim pieces and redo them to. I had to do one. Send me a pic to BlindGuyCan@gmail.com. Ya. You can have a toolbox full of stuff but sometimes you just don't have the thing you need LOL.
A Microfiber cloth for overspray works great, and toothpicks to get under the the plastidip for removal.
I hope folks catch these tips. I didn't know about the microfiber towels. I thought I used toothpicks but maybe I'm thinking about when I blacked out the truck.

Yes if you put a bolt behind it it disables it
My green one says snap on. Just tack it off . It's only glued on

@@jasonpsapp17 Hey Jason, yeah I did do this and painted the drawer tabs or whatever. I left the us general the way it is but it does look cool. I bought a bed liner spray at walmart and also did a clear coat. Definitely be sure to tape off good and watch for overspray. I could send you pictures if you want. I even have it organized really good if you want to see send me your email or something and I'll send you some pics.

As for my project I did this thinking that it might really look good on the green one. But the best part is that it peels off. So I can switch back anytime.

Seems like a lot of effort for a little result.
I disagree. It may look like a lot of effort but compared to actually painting, dipping or wraps it was VERY easy. I think that the results would be even more spectacular on the green cart.

This is why we cant have nice things
Over 2 years before swapping them out when the black trim kit came out. I peeled off the PlastiDip and they still looked brand new. I also put it on the drawer trim if both of my wife's Husky boxes for her craft room. I used rattle can bedliner spray on a cart for my daughter.

I've never heard of of knifeless tape before. I'll have to look that up. I have considered replacing the emblem with something more cool. Thanks for watching and leaving your thoughts.
@@DaleLucid its used a lot on vinyl wraps and graphics. lay knifeless tape down and curve or contour or shape or straight line where you want vinyl or paint cut and pull the wire string up to cut. just around the box emblem and just that rubber coat you can get by with using painters tape and some fishing line. stretch sections of fishing line tight next to base of emblem and tape both ends down. then put painters tape along base of emblem lines up with fishing line. after you spray rubber coat yank up fish line to cut it and then peel painters tape. you should sub to joe smith for more tips and advise.

If you buy the GRAY tool cart, all the trim is in BLACK. even the bolts and hardware.
This video was WELL before the gray cart and even the black trim kit.

Sometimes it's nice just to have a different looking box than everyone else's. I think I'd have some fun making each drawer handle different colors!
