Guy at my shop has the G1 and I just got the G2. As others have said the only real difference, other than colors, is really only that they fixed that issue with the top being at the angle. Guy at my shop just took the shocks off and lets the lid just hang off the back when he's using it.
    I like what you did.
Honestly it's really what I like about these HF carts anyways. Even if there is a problem or three, it's cheaper just to upgrade them, customize, or modify them to what you need and what you like than it would be to go Snap On or even many of these other big name brands.

the back hole is cause piece is cut and drilled to work on either side that wat in manufacturing they grab 2 pieces from 1 bin to weld and dont have to worry about getting from 2 bins and having them oriented right. this is done a lot in manufacuring. Plus both pieces ar made on same machine instead 2 different machines. drilling 2 holes saves money and makes constructing easier.

I had a series one just like this at one point. They are a fantastic cart at any price point.. I sold it and upgraded and grew into a Snap On service cart at work and bought a Husky cart for my garage.
The new styles are really nice and the colors are really close to Snap On colors. I was in HF last week and looked at them. The blue one is just a little lighter than my royal blue Snap On split top cart.

My roll away has two 3/4” sheets of plywood on the bottom that is over sized so it has a 2 ” wider base all around. The my casters are set on the corners of the ply wood only one bolt goes through the bottom of the cart in each corner. Also backing up the car t shelves with wood will quit the metal panels when rolling it.

Hammerite Metal Paint comes in two blues and two finishes (Hammered and Smooth). Any paint shop can custom tint white Rustoleum in the liquid cans to any exact color you wish. A thin 1/4" piece of plywood would both strengthen the bottoms and prevent scratching. A thin spray coating of truck bed coating underneath will deaden the rattling and b 'invisible'. Finally heavy weight (2 different gauges) perforated galvanized angle iron is available from the Home Depot electrical dept. for just a few dollars and will strengthen the cart's angle sheet metal sides. The hardware department has standard (solid) angle iron in various sizes. A spray adhesive will help affix the 'rubber' drawer liners.I have that same box, in black, that I got for $40 because it was missing parts and damaged (easily repaired). Most of the items listed above came from Home Depot, Harbor Freight, the Metal Supermarket (mine was missing the sheet metal bottom shelf and I made side shelves and drawer dividers as well), and my 'garage stock' from previous projects. I could have used sheet metal from Home Depot as well but I chose to make the bottom shelf into a pull out drawer. I could have just made a simple slide out drawer with plywood and screws. I used a small MIG for flux core 'tack and stitch welds' but I could have easily just used nuts/bolts/washers...

The only difference to the new one is the top lid going straight up, that's pretty much it. I have the new one in red. it's the same cart. Here's a mod I have that you might like, they make an outlet strip that is the same red and is magnetic. You can stick it to the side of the cart and plug in and then have mulitple outlets on the cart including USBs.

Nice customization ! For my toolbox, I'm gonna look for FAT tires. Unless your floor is IMMACULATE, you're gonna push and roll over crap constantly and those fat/wide tires can be used slightly soft to roll quieter/better.

put spacers bolts for the balls for this to work. 1/8 inch thick 1/4 inner diameter polyurethane bushings should work. then just make sure your holes and slots allow for that much clearance. otherwise, swap out and drill new holes for the locking hinges like are on the black 4 drawer carts, or measure the distance between the old holes and where the brackets land on the lid at vertical, and go to the parts house and have them order hood struts based on length. you're going to want to upgrade them anyway after you add the magnets and start putting weight up there. i didn't mind the angle of the lid, but i still upgraded to 65 lb each hood struts from the back of a jeep grand cherokee after i added my magnets and put my pliers on the lid. been better than 5 years now and i haven't had had to change em out yet. i did have to drill holes more forward in the box to get them to close, but that wasn't that big a deal.

  • @Rick-Williams59

Just get shorter lid shocks and put them in the holes toward the back, it'll keep from drilling and slotting.

    • @RedemptionGarage
      @RedemptionGarage  5 років тому

how short? you have to be able to know the travel of the shock or otherwise you may end up too far back or too close forward it would have to be perfect in order for it to stand straight up and down because that is what is holding the lid up? So you see its not as easy as just picking up a shorter shock I'm sure you could figure the math out but then you have to find the shock it took me 5 minutes to slot it out so to me it is easier to do what I did. Thanks for watching and commenting brother.

It's weird. The struts on my first one still work. I bought a second one recently and one strut gave out after about 6 months, the second strut is just barely hanging on at the end of a year. Not any good identifiers (numbers don't come back with a search result for length / force) to try and source replacements.

Hi there from Sweden, I got exactly the same roll around tool cart as you have. How's it going with the gas struts (shocks), figure it out yet? Check out what I did with mine regarding the gas struts here: ua-cam.com/video/0c7aoOZ3Osc/v-deo.html I couldn't find any weaker then 225N so I just mounted one of them.

I have this cart - a series-1 - and 7 other boxes. For the life of me I cannot understand how the lid not sitting at 90* is a problem. So what if it's slightly tilted; what does it matter? The series-2 mostly differs in its color selection and a few minor tweaks, like the lid. Not a big difference at all. Selling a cart that's almost new to buy essentially the same thing makes zero sense. Good luck.

For one you cant remove anything from the back pry bar slots for 2 if you hang anything from the lid it prematurely wears the shocks for 3 its his box his money and his time... just because you have pictures of 7 boxes doesnt mean you own them and by your comment you can tell you are a f**cking moron who has no experience and absolutely no idea what you're talking about probably sitting in mommy's basement go somewhere you dumb ass troll and get a life 😂

You three aren't exactly helping this guy. He's trying to start a channel and you're telling the world that its subscriber base is unusually dim and aggressive. Even for UA-cam. This being said, as he 'loved' your posts, obviously water seeks its own level.

Don’t sell your 1 year old cart.
Just take the U.S. General tag off and put a Snap On decal on it.
You can get the decals on Amazon.
    Then you’ll have a 1 year old
Snap On tool cart. Fool all your friends! They’ll be impressed first and jealous later! 😂🤣😅

Four swivel casters on a cart are a pain in the neck. I see no functional improvements here. 8:50 “it’s not perfect”

What?! Lol mobilty, functionality, and efficiency aren't important? Thanks for watching and for your input but I can't possibly see the downside to having 4 swivel casters just so long as a couple are locking

When I added 4 swivel casters I moved the original, locking ones to the front, drawer face of the cart. That way you move it where you want and the locks are at your feet in front of you
