It would be great if people could listen to a performance like this without prejudice. To say Beck OWNS this or that is just childish. I love the Jeff Beck version but I am stillI astonished at the beauty and passion of this rendition. Their interpretation is exquisite. The phrasing, tone and thoughtfulness is brilliant. It's a masterful performance, by Larry and Steve, of this gorgeous song . Music is not a competition. There are many ways to interpret a great melody. This is one of them.

For those who say it's Jeff's song, they need to listen to Syreeta's version. Recorded before Jeff's, it was the inspiration for Jeff to even do the song.

You are absolutely correct! And here are the lyrics to the song when she sang it...
      Sneaking kisses in the hall
Parting love notes are on the wall
Been each other's all and all each day
      Lovers walking in the rain
So close we felt each other's pain
But now you say that love has died away
'Cause we've ended now as lovers
Doesn't mean that we each other can't be friends
'Cause we've ended now as lovers
Does our love for one another have to end
      I remember teaching you
      On piano 'Tea for Two'
And how playing it wrong I kissed your hand
But when our love has gone and passed
Why does the good exceed the bad
Well that's one thing I'll never understand
'Cause I remember us at class
You were always the one to pass
And gave me answers right to see me through
But that was more than years ago
And who will love me I don't know
It's sad for sure but true it won't be you

I love music. Stevie Wonder writes a great song, like a lamp post on a Christmas night, snow falling. Jeff Beck gives it a kiss and takes it into The Wood Between The Worlds and turns it into the most beautiful piece of electric guitar music of all time. Steve and Larry take it for a walk through the back of a wardrobe and end up in Narnia. Music is a gift that keeps on giving, and giving.

@@danodonnell7218 Yeah really cool extended metaphor.
Beck does take an idea and live in it so to speak. He extends it by his experience in it. He is the most visceral guitarist by far.
      All feel and improvisation.
I love his playing and I have done since 91 when I was 17 and I was a passenger driving across France on Holiday and I had Jeff Becks Guitar shop and Wired on the same Tape.
I also had Van halen 1984 Night Ranger Dawn Patrol and Yingvie Malmsteen Rising Force and Tony MacAlpine Edge of insanity. , Vai Flexable and Al Di Meola Casino. That last one ended up being one of favourite albums along with Wired. Soon after that I realised I was into the deeply uncool world of jazz fusion.
Didn't give a fuck. Sounded good to me.

It's an incredible tribute to Jeff Beck to have somebody of the caliber of Larry Carlton and Steve Lukather playing a song he made famous. The reason Jeff, Larry, and Steve are all who they are is because instead of sitting around having a musical peeing contest they were actually getting better and not having idiotic arguments like most of the "experts" that you've never heard of do.

I love how while hearing Larry Carlton's run at 5:13 I just knew that he would finish it in an unexpected, distinctively Carlton way. And lo and behold rather than hitting that big bend you'd expect to close off this kind of run he does a half step bend into a bluesy lick. He always does things just a bit different than anyone else.

The songs origination goes back to Steve Wonder , each interpretation is a branch in the endless vibration of music.

This is the first time I have heard this version, normally going straight to Jeff Beck’s live version at Ronnie Scott’s. This version blew me away. It is a moving piece of music that needs playing by more guitarists in many years to come.

+Mike Flash Steve gets Kudo's for seeking out Glenn Campbell before he drifted away if you want to see it youtube. OHHH how I wish GC would have done pieces like this, when he was playing pretty his eyes would get a stare literally out to space as if blind, Keith Urban asked for a seating with him as well. He is on record for stating Urban's was a great talent. If you want to see a band of guitar warriors with little ego there is always Randy California; along the watch tower.
