LOLS! Steve Lukather physically pushing *the* Brian May to the front of the stage, is one of the most audaciously hilarious things I've seen in a concert. These three are so fantastic! What a treat. 😊
I caught the 'No Substitutions' tour at Lucille's in Manhattan. Luke and Larry signed copies of the CDs and shook hands with everyone. We were seated for the first show, and they invited us to hang at the bar for the second show while the incoming audience took our seats. I sneaked in during soundcheck, and just the vibe between them was worth the admission. It only got better after that.
Really cool to see such totally different players get together and play. Kind of puts all these stupid "best guitarist" pols in perspective. They are all different, and all great. And when they play together, everyone wins. Especially the audience.
@@57mab I guess I'm going to go ahead and kind of disagree. You could take Lukather and May and interchange them.....they both play with ample distortion, huge treble/gain, scale-related 40-yard dashes, and screech the rock guitar sound of the 80's. Carlton is a more skilled player and incorporates a broader style range (blues, jazz, chordal structures, plus more refined and cleaner Gibson guitar tone). Carlton is head and shoulders better than the other two....sorry. If you don't play, you wouldn't know.
@@57mab Forgive me, sir, not wanting to start a debate about who's the best guitarist in the world debate. However, I did feel compelled to suggest that Carlton was a more accomplished and skilled musician and player than the other guys ....May and Lukather. Moreover, they come at things from different musical genres, if not different geographical areas.....Lukather and Carlton from Southern CA and May from the UK. My point was about relativity more than crowning Lukather or May with any award or qualitative.....lol. No offense intended. We all have different tastes....based on life experiences, musical knowledge, etc. Larry is just a better musician than the other two, that's all.
@@tonytrabort4939 but they are having fun, no contest as to who is the best. They are all top musicians in their own right. Each have a different tone. Even Larry said it was an honour to play with them both
@@adamdrummer1991 No, I realize that....I'm offering my subjective reaction to the relative prodigy or talent of each guy.....the others don't belong on the same stage with Larry. I could care less whether they had a good time or Larry was being gallant and diplomatic. He could have been laughing inside.....
They are all equally fantastisk. In so many different ways. When it comes to personal tone, May is the king here. Remember he is not a session player like Lukather and Carlton, Still he nails it
Dude it was insane, I came here for Steve but then Larry started playing and the way he phrases and sings with his guitar was a wonderful surprise! I need to check him out!
Three masters! May’s tone is still the most original even though Carlton is a jazz virtuoso and Lukather a great shredder. You can hear B.B. King, and Clapton’s influence at times. Music is the greatest gift in the world, it’s a pity we have to suffer under shit governments and listen to MSM propaganda on a daily basis.
They were just jamming, and that’s why I loved it. I hate it when guitarists try to show off, by playing a lot of notes really fast, and then everybody just tries to outplay everybody.
Huge talent on stage, three brillant guitar-players and Claude Nobs is awesome, too. He did sooooo much for the Montreux Festival. Audience can be lucky. :)
In the pantheon of the world's all time greatest guitarists Steve Lukather may be the kindest, nicest and most generous. Read his latest autobiography ca. 2017, or better yet listen to Steve read it to you.
I guess it looked like they were faking it because one player would pick up where the other one left off and their fingers didn't look in the right place I don't know I'm suspicious
I like the way Brian comes on feeling like he's surrounded by Gods (which he is, of course), yet, he aquits himself with total aplomb, and sounds just as cool and awesome as the other two (quietly, I think he plays some of the best licks, haha!).
Wow...Larry Carlton....musical calculus...Brian May...tone to make Susan Tedeshi blush...and Steve Lukather's wonderfingers burning the fretboard. This is musical hedonism...the alchemy works. A+
All of this actually makes me feel better as a guitar player. I mean, no doubt these guys are great. Carlton is clearly the best blues player (and possibly the best player overall), and May and Lukather are virtuosos in their own right. But what this performance demonstrates is that even the best guitar players are not at their best in all circumstances and/or styles. It's easy to get down on oneself because one can't play like so and so... but that's okay. Find your own strengths, develop those, and become great at being YOU.
Exactly correct! I don't think the crowd quite appreciated exactly who Claude Nobs is.. they were awful quiet when he was brought out on stage? But then... I guess there's probably not that many Deep Purple fans out in the audience.
Have a few beers and jam out with your mates, normally heads off the rails after a few bars. I think that's why we do it, its still a human experience.
You probably dont give a damn but does anyone know a way to log back into an instagram account? I stupidly forgot the login password. I would love any tricks you can offer me!
You should check out Sleeping on the Sidewalk by Queen, which was probably their most straight up blues number. Dreamers Ball by Queen is another blues-tinged song.
Okay - it’s a given that all three guitarists play their asses off. But WOW, can Claude play that microphone!!!! That’s what I’ve always thought it looks like with a harp player who can really WAIL!!!
There's three of the top 100 right there on that stage.
All three guitarists are unique ,in their own sound ,to the point of musical genius ! 🎸
this i so good
Luke god given talent.. and having brian may, its like, a fallen angel in your lap, evh, is smiling listening to this..

Larry Carlton-guitar god. Steve Lukather-seriously underrated. Brian May-monster. All three together-SWEET.

May's tone is sick!!! 💯💯💯💯💯
Three absolute legends
Lukather is fantastic, May really versatile, but Larry...he is a monster, his tone, phrasing, the way his famous 335 talks to you is unique.
Totally agree :-)
I "found Larry in the late 70's. Jutst watch this ! Soo f-ing good ua-cam.com/video/kOn4AsqQSP0/v-deo.html

Carlton is supreme. Lukather is excellent. May is very good. Record sales are reversed.
Some awesome musicianship there - it’s not a contest - these guys are all great!
It's a buffet of tasty goodness! ❤
Sir Mays stongest tone ever. Love beyond words:)
It’s the same tone he’s used his entire life xD
OMG. Carlton and Lukather are breathtaking. But then BM comes on and THAT TONE!! Totally unique.

Brian May influences by Rory Gallagher- super guy and guitar player.

Brian May is an a simple man. Great guitar hero
What a treat to watch these guys!
......claude nobs was a king and did a lot for Montreux ........now if he look from the sky what happenned to his festival , i think is crying .......
Brian May's sound is quite different - why have so few other players followed? I'd love to sound like that.
The greats make it look effortless.
Por Dios!!! Cuantos genios juntos!!!! Gracias!!!
These guys are magical!
Nobody really seems comfortable. Straight blues is not always easy, especially when eveyone expects the bag of tricks & flawless mindblowing solo's.
Different styles of course but amazing how each guitar sounds so incredibly different. That 335 is made for this style of music.

All these players are great but Larry Carlton is such a f’n beast
I love these guy's!
GOOD👍STUFF!
Carlton est incroyablement giant !!
They had to push Dr. May to the front of the stage. That speaks volumes of his humility, and respect to not step on his compatriots toes...
Маy knows less of improvisation on BLUES !! Lukather is a space rocket on the strings.

Hot - Ass Smokin' guitar action here in this Jam no doubt. All they needed was Albert King.
"Funky and Claude were runnin in and out, pullin kids out of the ground now." - Lyric from Smoke on the Water.
WOW !!!!!!
Luke is one of the greatest guitarist ever but he always has an issue with remembering lyrics so you'll notice his looking down to read the words.
makes it almost even more impressive since he knows which notes to hit from his mind.
damn! pretty amazing!
Larry Carlton's lad on Bass !
nope not this gig..respectively
The late great Chris Kent is the bassist here.
