  • Cause we've ended as lovers (composed by Stevie Wonder) - Jeff Beck (1944-2023)/Syreeta (1946-2004) cover. Tom broke the B string of his guitar on his previous composition called "The Notes"... He had to change the guitar string on stage. In the meantime, the band began to play…

    Recorded, mixed, filmed & edited by Jean-François Mousseau
    "Cause we've ended as lovers" was composed by Stevie Wonder and released in 1974 on ex-wife album "Stevie Wonder presents Syreeta" (Motown). The song was covered by Jeff Beck as an instrumental version (dedicated to guitarist Roy Buchanan and thanks to Stevie) on his album "Blow by Blow" (Epic Records) recorded in October 1974 and released in 1975. It is said that Stevie gave this song to Jeff because of "Superstition" which was co-written with and for Beck in 1972: after finishing the song, Wonder decided that he would allow Beck to release his version of the song first. At last, "Superstition" was released first by Stevie in 1972 as the "Talking Book" album lead single.

    Boooaaah! I think Jeff would spread his arms when listening from whereever he is! RIP; Jeff! Such a tasteful hommage to that beautiful song, thx to the funtastic band!! THIS is a unique 4-tet indeed, professionell in every second. I love this tune meanwhile as the original! The bassman is a sledgehammer, what a playing and sound!!

    Now this whole group is tight and responsive to each other. Amazing arrangement of this song. The drummer was very sensitive and used excellent sound dynamics as well as the keyboard musician. Each member of this group is a great player as an individual, but more importantly was how they allowed breathing room for each other and for the song itself. They were so relaxed and just let it flow out. Wow, amazing how it all flowed together.

My heart was breaking seeing him changing a string prior to the song,... for any of you that have played out live, there is nothing worse than that feeling... good grief! He introduced the song with such precision. Holy, Bass Solo! Great video to have on UA-cam!

      I am a "B" series guitar player, but I always have two guitars at my gigs; just in case I break a string, as I know the audience will have very little patience with interruptions. Not withstanding the owner of the place telling us that we will not be welcome a next time.
      Such is life... but I believe Tom Ibarra could leave for a bathroom break in the middle of a solo without having anybody getting irate.

    Boxif atomique : même pas 600 vues... Jouer ça derrière Jeff Beck et avec ce feeling, c'est juste prodigieux. J'ai du écouter l'original de Blow By Blow quelques milliards de fois et si on m'avait dit qu'un "gamin" pouvait s'y coller avec une telle musicalité, je ne l'aurais pas cru. Je n'ai pas vu et entendu un jeune guitariste aussi talentueux depuis que Bireli cotoyait Jaco : Tom Ibarra sera immense, vous pouvez me croire...

    • @laurentrosemain1699
      @laurentrosemain1699 5 років тому +2

      Je partage complètement ton avis, c'est prodigieux, il y a tout: le son, le lyrisme, la technique, le feeling, l'interplay avec des musiciens du même niveau, une vrai humilité surtout chez Tom, c'est un très grand... Depuis le début je ne comprends pas que personne n'ouvre vraiment les yeux, je partage, je vais le voir quand il passe sur Paris mais cela suffira t-il à ce qu'il décolle avant d'être découragé ? On a envie de lui dire: "Barre toi fils, va jammer à N.Y.C., tu as finalement tellement peu à perdre ici que ce ne sera pas négatif..."
