Olive oil is a staple of the Mediterranean diet and is packed with beneficial compounds. It is high in polyphenols which help promote mitochondrial health. The key to finding high-quality olive oil is to look for cold-pressed, extra virgin varieties with a pressing date. To get the most out of olive oil, it should be stored in a dark, cool place and used sparingly. Trader Joe's and Costco are great places to find high-quality olive oil. With its numerous benefits, adding olive oil to your diet can be a great way to promote good health.

0:30: 🥦 Olive oil is incredibly high in polyphenols, which are key for promoting mitochondrial health.
3:51: 🥦 Olive oil has multiple health benefits and is associated with improved memory and longevity.
6:51: 🥗 Olive oil has a low smoke point but is not bad for cooking, and should be poured on food instead of just used for cooking.
10:18: 🌿 A good quality olive oil should be stored in a dark colored bottle away from sunlight, and it should be first cold press and extra virgin.
13:57: 🌿 Olive oil should be consumed within a few months of opening, and it is beneficial for health due to its high polyphenol content.

I totally agree with you about olive oil,. I'm 73. & had really awful srthritis, my hands were hardly useable, my shoulders were moving. Thought I wauld end up in a wheelchair. Then. i found a great olive oil, where did my arthritis go? I was amazed as my arthritis started to dissappear until today where I only have a small bump on my right index finger. So now I don't believe " it's just part of ageing. I'm living proof. Thanks for all the great hints & tips.

I have been taking olive oil (2 tablespoons in the evening) for two weeks now. I am skeptical of trying stuff like this, but I figured what could be the harm. What amazed me is the benefits were evident on the very first night. My heart rate during sleep dropped 10 bpm the first night, and that effect has persisted since. My diabetes is under better control (CGM shows that the glucose spikes have significantly diminished) and I am beginning to see improvement in the brain fog that has plagued me since COVID.

I live in the the south of Italy, over 25 years, and I cook with EVO daily. My olive oil never smokes, ever. I cook on a gas stove with a very low flame to brown my garlic (aglio)and peperoncini (red pepper). I’m now almost exclusively using EVO from the province of Bari in Puglia. That area provides the harsh dry conditions to produce high polyphenols with that peppery spicy after taste. I buy it by the case usually and sometimes go to the olive orchards for a nice outing in October and November when they are harvesting it. But, it is easily found in our supermarkets too.

Nevertheless, I live in Quebec and my grocer delivers the most amazing vegetables on a weekly basis... Fresh Sunkist oranges.... I squeeze 2 everyday... I love fresh fruit... and as for my cuisine everything has to be fresh ... fresh veggies and fruit... no meat! Only chicken from a special farm... "grain - fed chicken". which I prepare chicken broth with 7 fresh vegetables.... this healthy broth simmers for 2 hours and then I serve it with pastina,,,, sprinkled with Romano cheese and ladle this delicious flavoured consommé. - I have the most beautiful complexion.... people always ask me what are the cosmetics that I use { My complexion is flawless! }. My response I nourish myself with homemade fresh chicken consommé prepared with 7 vegetables! Pepper squash, sweet potato, onions and garlic and celery and a bunch of fresh parsley!Leeks.... carrots! @@stevengriffith167 When I can, I buy from the local farmers directly. In the supermarkets, there are non famous brands that I would never find in the USA. The best advice I can give is to look on the back of the bottle to see what province in Italy, “BA” is Bari in Puglia. Any EVO oil from that region should be good, espresso if it has “robosto”, or “frutoso”.

Also my EVOO says cold press not 1st, it has a harvest date but no pressing date. It is in a dark glass 1liter bottle. It is from California and does give a throat tickle. If we only have a harvest date, how can we judge a pressing date?

Dr G - I don't get it. In regard to cooking You say that olive oil does not oxidize fast and easy. In regard to contact with air (not sunlight) You say that it oxidizes quite fast. I buy olive oil in 3 liter (sometimes even 5 liter) metal containers and I consume it in about 4-6 weeks after opening. I have never observed any strange changes in taste, smell or colour of the oil after 4-6 weeks. My extra virgin olive oil is never older than 1 year.

I needed this today! Just yesterday I told my daughter not to cook with it (I heard this from another Dr on UA-cam). I have been taking shots of 1T once a day for the last few weeks. 👍 Obviously, that needs to go up. Hey, here’s an idea to keep it fresh. Vacuum seal it in dark mason jars in between uses and keep it in the cupboard. I have a handy mason jar vacuum sealer I got for about $30 on Amazon.

I'm confused, Dr. Gundry stated that in the Predimed Trial that the participants had cardiovascular disease (2:47 mark) but when I did my own research here's what I found: The sample size of the PREDIMED trial was approximately 7,447 individuals, as reported in the New England Journal of Medicine. The participants did not have pre-existing cardiovascular disease at the beginning of the trial, as the study aimed to assess the effects of a Mediterranean diet supplemented with extra-virgin olive oil or nuts on the primary prevention of cardiovascular disease in individuals at high cardiovascular risk. I have had two widow maker heart attacks so the accuracy of this information is important to me. I hope someone responds to this inquiry as I would really like to find out which is true, thanks.
