I have had extreme Bruxism for 20 years, the damage to my teeth has brought tears to my eyes and has made sleep time extremely scary for me. I’ve was hopeless because I would clench through my night guard. I finally found this video and after taking b1 thymine I am on day 15 without any symptoms of clenching at night. I can’t believe it, truly life changing for me. Thank you
@@MsLee-oh7hy Oh boy , my canine left one got a big cavity in just past few months I didn't realise clenching could do that, got it filled my dentist said get a cap I was scared I don't want cap in any of my teeth 🙏, amidst the situation i didn't addressed my clenching much and now it's another thing to stress about 😂 because it can ruin all teeths wtf
I realized my canines had been filed down but I did not know what was causing it. Only recently in my 20’s a dentist finally told me I grind in my sleep. All my teeth have become shorter and that links to my other mouth problems. I realized it’s genetic and was passed down from my mother. I’m also scared to wake up as my teeth become shorter and shorter
I’m a dentist and see the effects of bruxism in 90% of my patients. There’s a big factor that you’ve missed here. Multiple well controlled, double blind studies have concluded that clenching and grinding helps open up our airway so we can breathe better. About 90% of us have inadequate space for our tongue, due to jaws that are a bit too small (so also not enough room for all the teeth to come in straight, which is why nearly every kid gets braces). So the tongue can’t find room to spread out. It can either get the room it needs by hanging out of your mouth or using the back door and occupying space in the throat. That ends up either narrowing or blocking your airway during sleep, especially if you sleep on your back. So that rise in heart rate and blood pressure that he mentions, that’s due to having to WORK to breathe. Breathing should be effortless. The brain steps in a few seconds later and triggers GRINDING which helps brace the airway open. This cycle can occur anywhere from a few to dozens of times per hour, and is at its worst during the dream phase of sleep when muscle tone is at its lowest (and airway is more collapsible). Sadly the good doctor will never see this comment.
Thank you for your comment! I have been looking a lot into this and have the same findings. It is so frustrating to try and find an good orthodontist that focuses on airway rather than just straight teeth. I would rather have my kids keep their crooked teeth and have great sleep from nice open airways and room for their tongue, than just straight teeth and breathing/sleep issues. Sadly, the closest ortho I can find that meets MY standards is in CA and I'm in Idaho :(
Great comment! I think I have just that. Also have a badly scalloped tongue which never goes away. What can someone do about this if this is what causes their clenching/grinding? 🤔
@@braeutchen41 It's actually right. I used to grind a lot and I had a friend who had this issue too but doesn't anymore, she asked me if I breathe through my nose or mouth. That's when it hit me, I breathe a lot through my mouth which is not sufficient or proper which ends up triggering the grinding issue more. Since I started training myself to actively breathe through my nose when I'm awake, my grinding has gotten less intense and aggressive. I also actively try not to clench or tense my jaws.
I have bruxism and do not drink alcohol, smoke, etc. I did test low for D3 and have started a regimen. I have a plastic piece I wear and no longer have teeth pain. Kudos to my dentist who discovered this as I would wake up and have bitten the inside of my cheek. Thanks for addressing this condition. Self education is necessary for taking care of the mind body and spirit!
I also have this problem when I suffered sinus infection for almost a year, constantly wake up during the nights and I've bitten n chewed the inside of my cheek..I also suffered severe dry mouth..Thanks to my dentist she recommended me to see specialist doctor n found out that I have chronic sinus infection..The infection now gone n all the dry mouth, biting, chewing inside cheek n bruxism stop

Oh my God it works! I started taking B1, D3 & K2 and my bruxism is gone! I don't think my dentist believes me but finally after 35 years I finally got actual help! Thank you so much Dr. Berg!
@@danielurbina2628 it was severe. Blinding headaches and jaw pain that ibuprofen couldn't even fix. I also went through an invisalign treatment in the past year and I was grinding my way those in only about 2-4 days time. Fortunately I changed my trays every week. I've been in a retainer for the past few months and I've not needed a backup. So this combination of vitamins has been a miracle for me!
@lighteningstorm HI. I was wondering if you needed to stay on B1, or did the bruxism stay away? I have the same at times. I got a night guard . Haven't worn it yet. Was glad to get it, but not so much to wear it yet. I take vitamin D3 and gonna start B1. Thanks. 😊
@@amg92003 hey! I have to stay on it. I can miss one day but after missing two the bruxism came back but it took several days to go back to being severe.
I have been grinding my teeth since I was a child. My dentist told me decades ago when I asked him why I do it, that "it starts off as stress, and then becomes habit". This was all before I ever smoked, drank, or was prescribed antidepressants, but I definitely was stressed out about what was happening at home.
Same here. Ever since I was a little kid I was grinding my teeth. Had no stress back then, healthy living situation, good nutrition, out in nature, no smoking ever. Drinking yes but only decades later. Never took any medications or antidepressants or other drugs. I live in a very sunny climate and I have high vitamin D status I test regularly. Have been taking B1 for a long time (for a different reason). Still i grind my teeth. I hope this advise might help someone but for me personally none of this is the solution.
For country kids especially, (anyone, really) check for worms and parasites first. Folk medicine practitioners knew this was a common cause of bruxism in children.
I had this problem last year for quite some time. Definitely stress and inability to relax, even when sleeping. What helped me was switching bedsides with my husband back to the side that feels more natural to me. I felt instant relaxation and slept like a baby ever since. Something to consider. No more jaw/teeth clenching and pain.
I used to suffwr Bruxism till I almost recently( I am almost 52)..The moment I have eliminated the stress at work, my complaints diminished ..Thanks Dr. Berg. We all learn so much through you almost every day.. Regards from Istanbul..
@@nataliehilton1537 There was a dental damage and too much pain around my face when I woke up. My denstist approved that I dont grind any more and every morning I get up fully relaxed rather than extremely tight chin muscles
Hygienist here! So many patients have bruxism now more than ever! I also recommend Magnesium glycinate 400mg with D3/K2 and a fat at night. Plus nutritional yeast during the day. Also one of the many symptoms of sleep apnea is bruxism.
Dr. Berg, love you so much, I was a chronically afflicted by bruxism, low GI motility, night sweat and other problems for decades. Recent years I have realized that I was and still be deficient in vitamin D and vitamin B1. And you're the first one that coincide with my finding!
@@РаИса-с2я I occationally take vitamin D3 and found it was really helpful, but haven't seen significant effect on taking thiamine as it seems to work at a very high level. And yes I seldom have bruxism and night sweats now. It seems that I've had chronical metabolic syndrome caused by malnutrional status and stress and finalluy all of these triggered those problems.
@@Jackie1111 I personally take chelated glycinate form of magnesium. And just before bedtime I take 500mg along with 500mg of B1 and have noticed marked improvement with teeth grinding at night as well as improved sleep.
My son did this so bad he was wearing his teeth down until he went onto iron replacement and now after a few months on them twice a day he doesn’t do it any more
I'm 62 and have Suffered with Bruxism since Age 11, needless to say I Now suffer from Constant Tinnitus, Broken Molars, Gum Pain, exc and I've Tried Everything to No Avail.
What can I say??? I already took vitamin D3 and after watching the video I decided to give a try to the B1 vitam. I used to grind my teeth so hard I woke up by the noise my teeth made. I used to woke up with soaring jaw every single morning. Since I started taking B1 miraculously I have never waken up by the noise of my teeth and at this point I think I grind my teeth much less (or at all. I can't be sure) and no more soaring jaw! Thank you so much, dr. Berg! Your advice was life changing for me!
I've been following your advice the best I can, I've lost 25 pounds already! Ima trucker and have been working out for the past 3 years with little results. For the most part I can follow your advice even in this type of environment, it takes alot of self control, but your advice is working for me. Thank you! I'm way more confident now in my ability to live healthy, I feel like I know how to navigate in the grocery store better.
Dont forget to read the notes after watching the video! Grinding your teeth can lead to issues like: • Excessive wearing of the teeth • Teeth pain • Headaches • Jaw spasms People who smoke, drink alcohol, or take SSRIs have a higher risk of teeth grinding (bruxism). There are a few things involved in teeth grinding at night, but it seems to be largely related to the autonomic nervous system. Bruxism is also associated with a certain variation in genetics. The gene involved is the receptor gene for serotonin. If you have this variation, you’ll have to work harder to increase the precursors of serotonin to help build it up. Bruxism can also be triggered by various things, including: • Stress events • Trauma • Excess caffeine consumption The best natural remedies for teeth grinding: 1. Vitamin B1 (nutritional yeast) 2. Vitamin D3 Thank you Dr Berg! 😺👍
Dentist made me a mouth gaurd wrong.. cant wear it. was grinding bad insane stress. woke up and my tooth was hurt from a hard grind i did. stress from past trauma.. My stress was so insane.. then I remembered this dr berg video and watched it at 3am... was so stressed i could not eat much lunch but managed to take D3 and a complete vitamin b complex i had... like hours later i can feel my stress melt away, i know what upset me but i no longer get the super sick feeling and anxiety is nearly gone. I was finally able to eat normal and im hungry for food and eating it. cant wait to do this vitamin thing again tomorrow. i just took the normal dose it says on the bottles too. it worked great
I started taking these two suggested vitamins last week after watching this video. I'm not sure how quickly they are supposed to start working, but After i started taking the B1 in the morning and D3 before bed, i realized today that my ears stopped humming. The teeth grinding was causing my ears to hum constantly throughout the day. Maybe it was all mental, but it went away after taking your advice...so thank you for this! ❤️👏🏾❤️👏🏾❤️👏🏾❤️👏🏾❤️
Did he say to take D before bed? I must listen again. I thought that D and melatonin worked opposite each other with D being a morning hormone. It really messes with my sleep and causes terrible nightmares regardless of when I take it.
@@beannamated No he didn't say take it before bed. I decided to do that on my own. During the day I'm outside getting plenty of sun, so i just figured if i took D3 in the morning it really wouldn't do anything for me. So i decided to start taking it prior to bed to keep the vitamin releasing during sleep. It doesn't give me nightmares.
@@mulan5876 Hi...sure! I do this routine religiously now. I take the B1 in the morning and the D3 as I'm going to bed. My ears no longer hum when I wake up. It was so annoying when it was happening, and then I came across this video and tried it. ❤️❤️❤️❤️ I hope this works for you.
I have chronic nocturnal bruxism. To the point where all my teeth are flat and my canines look like they were sawed off about halfway up the tooth. My dentist says I have the most severely worn teeth out of any of his patients, including people in their 70s and 80s. (I'm only 36). Already supplement with D3 but will give B1 a try. Thanks!
I was grinding my teeth since early teens, and waking myself and rest of house up. I've cracked teeth in my sleep and they are worn. There is a book, 6 foot tiger in a 3 foot cage, that is interesting reading. It talks about how the mouth is too small for the tongue and when you sleep, the tongue blocks your airways and the body thinks it's suffocating. Since getting my braces 1 1/2 yrs ago to expand my jaw, I haven't had a night sweat and stopped grinding my teeth. Breathe Right air strips are a quick fix to help open airway in your nose.
Teeth grinding runs in my family and even in kids. Overtime it misaligns the jaws and eventually in my case cause sleep apnea because my tongue blocks my airways. I had jaw pain for years and dentists saw the erosion of my teeth but hardly understood its impact on my health. I will get the supplements. Thank you for educating us.
Dentist here 👋 What a fascinating correlation between teeth grinding and vitamin B deficiencies. Mind blown 🤯. I will definitely be looking into this more. For most of my patients who grind their teeth, I usually find that they also have some form of sleep apnea as well. Difficulty breathing at night seems to trigger those sympathetic pathways. Great content! 👍
I have severe TMD, and rigeminal neuralgia. I also I’m thinking that maybe I have sleep apnea, is there a mouthguard you can recommend that would help with sleep apnea and TMJ pain as well? As a dentist I thought maybe you could recommend some thing that would help both. My lower jaw recedes and the best appliance I ever had was one that pulled the lower jaw forward. Tried a few other dentists who couldn’t replicate it, first one no longer around. Thank you
@@lindapelle8738 i used to have a click in my jaw every morning the first time i opened my mouth. I found that if i move my lower jaw forward, kind of like exaggerating an underbite as far foreard as i can, it streches the jaws tendons and the click goes away. Also of you feel under your jaw, you will feel many tendons that go from below the jaw and sown the neck. By pushing up under your jaw with your fingers, and bringing you head up, you van stretch those muscles and tendons also. Good luck!
So many coincidences. I've been grinding my teeth since I was a teenager. At least I remember dreaming and eating in my sleep. The condition was identified in my 20s. Unrelated, Thirty years later, I've been fasting for over 30 days. I drink tea, coffee, kimchi juice, and sauerkraut brian, have a pinch of fresh green occasionally, and when hungry, I have half a teaspoon of grass-fed butter mixed with seasonings salt and nutritional yeast. I also take a turmeric supplement mixed with anti-inflammatory herbs once a week. I did the turmeric daily until I learned that the beneficial compounds in turmeric were fat soluble, so I now have them in warm golden milk about once a week. I monitor all my vitals, sleep and fat, water, protean body composition etc. I also supplement with various electrolytes, including magnesium, full-spectrum B vitamins, D3, and vitamin C (the supplements need to pass my taste test before I take them, so it's a mild B spectrum supplement.) Yesterday for the first time, I took all my supplements in one go against my better judgment. To make it all palatable and maximize absorption, I made myself one larger glass of golden turmeric milk with a teaspoon of grass-fed butter and took everything late afternoon. Before bed, I had an extra D3 as it's chewable, aka my candy. I had the best night's sleep in over a decade. For the last 5 years, my nightly heart rate fluctuated during the night, but last night it was the most stable ever, only fluctuating around 5 bpm. I wasn't conscious of grinding, but I was aware of my sinuses being clear and able to sleep in any position, breathing through my nose and without discomfort, partly due to the extreme weight loss. Looking at my heart rate, the quality of sleep, and the content of this video, It wouldn't surprise me that I didn't grind my teeth last night. I will comment again if I can tell if the grinding subsided. I suspect the B vitamins and magnesium helped improve my sleep quality.
I used wake up with brutal headache and after dentist suggested, started wearing teeth guard promptly each night. Last week went on vacation and by mistake forgot my toiletry bag( teeth guard). Today came back and was thinking that how not even 1 day I got any headache like it vanished magically! So want to share that from past JUST 3weeks( minus last week) I started walking barefoot on grass in the morning for 30 mins, 2 litre electrolytes, with trace minerals and nutritional yeast( all dr berg’s)! And than I watch this video andddd I get all my answers!!!! So thankful and so relieved!!! God bless you dr Berg🙏🏻
I am pleased to share my positive experience with Dr.Berg''s recommendation. After conducting thorough research and reviewing comments from other commenters, I decided to follow his suggestion to try Vitamin B1 for my mother's teeth grinding issue. The results were remarkable! Within just four days of administering Vitamin B1, my mother's teeth grinding ceased, providing much-needed relief from the painful symptoms. I would like to express my sincere gratitude to Dr. Berg for his expertise and guidance. His recommendation has made a significant impact on my mother's comfort and well-being. Thank you, Dr. Berg!
I treat this orthodontically. It all comes back to stressed breathing from small jaws (midfacial hypoplasia) the "chattering" is the epi genetic signaling to grow (activates stem cells in that sutures) A compromised airway increases cortisol and prevents true rem sleep. The adaptation to a nrem sleep allows parafunction such as bruxism. Usually, bruxism is just trying to get your lower teeth in front of the uppers to get your tongue out of the throat. (Think sleep apnea) But upper airway resistance is a whole other discussion. It's too complicated to type here, but I'd be happy to help connect some dots with Dr. Berg
In my career as a naval oral surgeon I see many patients with this routinely. Mostly caused by the stressful lives of active duty sailors and not having a great stress reduction protocol hopping in bed at night. Also happens a lot more frequently in brachyfacial patients with with a square jaw, flat occlusal plane, leading to shortened masseters that can generate significantly more force when biting as opposed to say a dolichofacial patient. Warm compress and deep tissue masseter massages work great at night before bed, but also Botox therapy works wonders to decrease the amount of force generated and alleviate muscle soreness and wearing of teeth and works great for many of my sailors who can’t be on long term muscle relaxers. You can also have an internal derangement of the TMJs that can cause masseter spasms during the day or night which can lead to nocturnal bruxism. Certainly multifaceted.
Thank you! My dentist seems to have almost no knowledge about bruxism. Just keeps replacing the crown that comes out and just recommended a mouth guard even though I’ve had several over the years that haven’t worked (some hurt and some I spit out). I recently saw a video thumbnail on UA-cam about using Botox and I saved it but forgot about it. Thanks for the reminder.

Thank you Dr. I am going to up my dose of these two vitamins! Also, I have a plastic occlusal guard made by my dentist to wear at night, but as I do more research about micro plastics I am appalled that I might be doing myself more harm than good by grinding on plastic while I sleep. They are calling the toxic chemical ingredients of these “forever chemicals “ and they are connected to so many worse health issues, including cancer! It would be great if you could address this issue in a video and make some alternative solutions for protecting our teeth from grinding without putting our health at risk!
Yes, I have the same concern about plastic in my mouth all night long and absorbing toxins from that. I decided to not wear a mouth guard since I don't think my grinding is that bad.
Dentist here. Grinding your teeth can also be from parasites. I have my patients do a parasite cleanse first to rule that out. A small airway can also make you brux. Magnesium glycinate at night can help with the physical stress, as well.
@@curiosoclassicus7315 Black walnut, cloves and wormwood is a classic combo for parasite removal. I'm in Mexico where a standard OTC remedy is recommended twice a year. I prefr the herbal in spite of it taking longer.
I’ve been taking your nutritional yeast & D3 and I’m still grinding my teeth. I sleep with a night guard. I’m 52 and have been grinding since i was a child.
What causes it is early childhood trauma. It is the result of the fight/flight reaction in the brain. Little children, who are scared and have no coping skills, turn all of that fear inward. When the subconscious takes over at night, it is scared also. This totally effects the nervous system. Mental health care need, also. It's the heart/brain. It begins in the development of a child's brain. That is what causes it. Trauma Brain Response is what I call it.
I agree. Always vigilant. Even when you think you’re not. And these days, with the political and social atmosphere in which innocent people are attacked just for being Caucasian and others harassed for not getting experimental jabs, crime on the rise even in small cities like where I live, and 4 people died suddenly in our tiny 25 home circle of townhouses from heart attacks and strokes, and what the hell. The trauma never ends. Yes I can sleep in total darkness while the rampant burglaries are made easier by my lack of outdoor lighting. Never safe. Even with therapy and spiritual work. These last few years have been true hell. But still, the crazies keep the demons in power. Their Stockholm syndrome traumatizes a whole society. Their need to pretend to be good makes so much bad expand.
Being involved with bruxism for most of my life I found almost no connection to childhood trauma as a cause in the majority of these cases. Although I am not totally discounting that there may be some individuals that may fall along these lines. Stress is certainly one of the causes of more intense episodes of bruxism . But bruxism in our ancestors was what kept some of them alive . Most every person alive either clenches or clenches and grinds. At night , our teeth come together enough to keep them where they belong . I call it the recalibration time. Teeth must touch it’s opposite arches teeth in order to stop erupting. To extract the most nutrition from certain diets our ancestors with flatter teeth were able to grind food better. Some animals have very flat teeth. With our more modern diet this genetically selected habit may not be needed. And many of us have seen more intense clenching and clenching in grinding during stressful times. Our politicians don’t really care about the stress they cause because it gives them what they want. Control. But if the things they want to worry us are causing us to increase bruxism then think of what it is doing to our minds and bodies that we don’t know about. A lot to unpack here. I know. Not everyone deals with this daily. But some of us do.
I clench my teeth really hard while sleeping and wake-up with so much pain in my body , jaw and especially in my throat and neck. My teeth had such a good shape but now it's all ruined. I also realized i also clench my fist really hard while sleeping. So I'm pretty sure it's related to stress or trauma
Years ago when my dentist told me I was grinding my teeth I did a "sankalpa" (yogic term for making to yourself a strong mental note, suggestion to yourself) that I wasn't going to do it anymore. I did it before going to bed. I did it for a few nights in a row. The problem completely went away.
Being one suffering from TMJ issues for many years I would recommend making sure you have good posture when you're sleeping! Make sure you're not curling up in a ball with your chin tucked to your chest.
I have fractured 8 teeth over the years. Very sad. I have had 6 different nite guards. My jaw always feels like it is trying to crack a walnut. TMJ is brutal. Many suicides have been caused by TMJ. Excellent info. Thx
I grind my teeth too. Over time I have cracked some molars doing it. I sleep with a nightguard now. Wish I would have noticed this much earlier in my life.
Thanks Dr. Berg👍🏻 I actually ruined one of my molars by bruxing, and also from the horrible morning sickness I had with my pregnancies which caused me to be able to eat very little in my first trimesters and resulted in me lacking in nutrients. It would have been great if I'd known better during my pregnancies. Live and learn.

I am 30 and recently realised about my teeth grinding at night, I wake up with pain and cuts in my mouth. It's degrading my teeth and very glad to find this. No one absolutely no one told me what I'm reading here in the comments.
In response to the dentist that said 90% of your patients do this…. Dental work triggered my bruxism. Err BAD dental work triggered it. Anyone else have this start after bad dental work?
Me it’s been horrible and cannot get help. Hoping this helps… just because it started with bad dentistry. Doesn’t mean that you don’t have a deficiency.❤
This is interesting. I'm 56 years old. I don't drink or smoke. I have never been a smoker and I very rarely drink. I don't take any medications. I have one coffee in the morning. I have had a problem with bruxism for a long time. I have had to deal with some stress and trauma throughout my life. I'm trying to eat healthier. I'm trying to lose about 20kg. I started trying to breathe through my nose rather than my mouth this year. I have to exercise more consistently. I finished a push-up challenge in June doing 1572 push-ups in 23 days. finally, some information about what's happening in the brain during teeth grinding. it's stress related for me and I used to grind all the time but it's been about 6 months since it's been bad. I've been eating nooch regularly and have fixed my vitamin during those 6 months so there does seem to be a correlation.
Its nuts how something is going on with me or im thinking of something and then dr. berg comes out with a video. Its happened so many times. Thank you dr. berg for all the free information and help.
Hi Dr. Berg! I have been clenching and grinding for 40+ years. I definitely think stress is the main cause of mine and fluctuates accordingly. I lost 4 family members in 2022 and my grinding has now lead to my jaw popping out of position on my one side. I’ve been taking B1 and D3 for a long time and have not noticed a change in my grinding. I don’t drink or smoke. Would love to have a fix to all this as my dentist has encouraged me to wear a mouth guard during the day in addition to night and I prefer not to do that. Praying this regimen of vitamins works well for others. I think the best remedy for me is to learn how to de-stress.
Got to be stress as the main cause. I'm 53, a worrier, dont smoke, and i dont drink to excess. I cant get on with a full or partial mouth guard. Your remedy sounds the best way forward.:)
The issue with wearing it during the day…is if you’re going to an office somedays.🫠 Sure, I’ll just take my dental guard out with all that saliva to talk to my boss, lol. Then I’ll put it back in constantly throughout the work day. I know I’m being too literal. I know they are probably meaning where you can. Anyways, I relate. I am a stressed person in general. I think I have a stress addiction and I get all my worrying from my dad’s side. Somehow have to find a way to destress from work, even though you’re dealing with psychopathic behavior constantly.
With my first pregnancy I would clinch my jaws so bad when I was awake. Now 11 years later I’m pretty sure I’m doing it while I’m sleeping. B1 is probably the reason. Will start taking B1 and see how that works! Thanks!
My partner and I take both Thiamin and Vit D3, but I can't say it's made a lot of difference, however I only grind my back teeth occasionally during the day, for short periods - but I have noticed that those back teeth feel hollower. I think you're right Doctor - I need to drink less alcohol and quit smoking (although I only ever smoke a couple a day). But alcohol consumption does seem to be the prevailing negative factor in my life, so it is on my priority list of changes to make! (easier said than done though!).
Thank you so much, Dr. Berg for all the amazing information you always provide in your videos. I'm a 47 years old male and I've been grinding my teeth ever since I was a child. My 7-year old daughter also grinds her teeth every night ever since she was 3 or 4. I sometimes can hear her teeth grinding from my bedroom while she's sleeping in her bedroom. I'm taking 7,500 IUs of Vitamin D3, Vitamin B-Complex and B12 tablets daily. Looks like Bruxism is running in my family. Should I give the same Vitamins to my daughter as well? Thank you very much.
I had so many sad teeth 🦷 issues in my teenage years due to bad diet & stress but at least, now, I’m able to stop the pain & infections by using your data. ❤❤❤
@@lindapelle8738 Using Dr Berg’s videos on how to stop carbs cravings reduced more than 80% of the pain and infections. Then I used his electrolytes and his D3&K2 and nutritional yeast. Also, 3 tablespoons of wild caught cod liver oil a day helps me out to totally end this.
Very informative and timely video. My poor left gum was in pain from grinding my teeth at night to the point where i thought i had to start eating soft foods for relief. I'm big on taking vitamins and gonna get some B1 & D3 recommended. Equally important.will share this brilliant video. Thanks a gazillion.💯🙌🏽
I’ve had this since college, 40 plus years later still have it. Have to wear a mouthpiece at night. Seems to be stress dependent, as I don’t smoke or drink. Thanks to Dr. Berg for this video and to all my fellow commenters/sufferers.
I am 64 and have been grinding for years. A tooth guard helped for awhile but i now have ear fullness, decreased hearing and dizziness. I think its all caused by jaw muscle inflammation near the ears . Has anyone else experienced this and found an answer? I will try the supplements.
I had a dentist tell me it’s common for bruxism to occur aa a side effect to nighttime GERD/reflux. It’s good to see more info on this issue - good video.
I’ve been grinding my teeth since I had teeth to grind. I don’t have any of the habits / factors related and now use a mouth guard….for my husband’s sake. My kids once recorded me and I sound like an industrial rock crushing machine! No mouth or jaw pain, headaches or etc. On a good note, I’ve never had dental plaque, cavities or other dental issues.
I do suffer from bruxism since childhood.I was informed by my mom that my granddad got the similar issue. For my cases it's definitely genetics.I will try out the B1,D3 along with K2.Thanks doc.
In the past year or so, my lower front teeth have all chipped and my front tooth actually broke in two from a relatively minor hard bite. My dentist says I have cracks all through my teeth. Ive just turned 60 and always had good strong teeth until I started a stressful job a couple of years ago. 12 months ago I had a minor stroke. Its all related I feel.
Most doctors have little to no training in nutrition. MDs are only trained to treat symptoms without ever finding the root cause. Keeping people sick is MUCH more profitable for the healthcare industry. Profits over people is the evil system we have in the US!
Dr. Berg, you are the best as always! I have been grinding my teeth for more than 30 years now! I do not smoke or drink but I am under lots of stress. I am taking Vitamin D3 and i will start taking B1 now. Thanks so much for all that you do! Have a wonderful day! Best wishes to you always! :)))
I had an oral cancer scare from bruxism ,and you know I've actually been taking natural forms of both supplements for a month. I've also got tinnitus in the ear beside the side of my jaw that clicks a lot, particularly as braces in my younger years (due to thumb-suckling before that, it seems) means I have a general overbite, and I notice that the nerves on that same side of my face don't seem to all work. I'm convinced that crushing the teeth back is terrible for other parts of the head! I have TMJ disorder but I sleep alone so I don't know is it's working. But since taking Lion's Mane as well, I feel like it has cleared some tiny clots stuck on that side of my head (the side I used my phone on until I learned that radiation could interfere!) as I'm now able to feel things if I massage my head on that same side. I'm trying to get rid of a polyp in my nose on that side in another way too, not sure how. And I just got my prolactin levels tested, not sure why as they wouldn't tell me, but it'd be interesting if drinking ten cups of tea as a child ("to help my teeth and bones" actually calcified the pineal gland, and led to blockages in the calcium ion channel to the detriment of serotonin! As well as TMJ disorder and lots of other stress interfering in sleep in affecting the entire parasympathetic system. Fluoride is so annoying!!
I’ve had bruxism all my life. I also, do it during the day, subconsciously. It’s ruined my teeth causing many root canals. Listen to your dentist, I was too vain to wear a mouthpiece. Implants and bruxism are a painful combination.
Good video, few important things you didn't mention. I'll suggest the toxic effects of fluoride (raises anxiety and anger) and parasites. Everything you shared is spot on. Detoxing internally and externally are critical to help eliminate the brux. Wish I knew all of this 40 years ago. Thanks and God bless partner.
I do none of the activities listed here that increase likeliness of bruxism. I don’t drink, smoke, have never taken any pharmaceutical other than antibiotics when I was young. I have taken a high quality D3 every day with Nordic naturals fish oil for years and a few months ago added extra B1 after one of your videos ( I was already taking a B complex by Thorne). In fact, I used the Dr. Berg allithiamine. And I’m having worse problems than ever with bruxism!
I had bruxism since 6 years old (also a strict vegetarian since 5 years old..). 2 years ago I trained myself to eat on my tongue instead of my teeth, which helped, but then I started supplementing with massive doses (600mg+) of different magnesium forms every single day and I forgot that I even had the issue my whole life. I still have stress in my life but my sleep is great compared to what it used to be and my teeth are no more shortening
I have always had bad teeth. Dentist said it was because I'm was a type 1 diabetic. I do take nutritional yeast and d3. My issue now is for last few months it's like all my teeth are hurting. Yes I brush and floss and keto. I know one problem is a crown was put on wrong and I feel so tense all the time but don't really have much stress and it's hard for me to go to a dentist or doctor because they have not helped me much so I rather get my info from Dr berg. Thanks for another great video.
Thank you

Nice. I got a cap put on my front 2 top teeth.
How much dose you take? Gram or milligram?
You’re supposed to breathe through your nose.
@@sevenchambers 😂😂😂.....uhhhh yes....🤭
@@danielurbina2628 it was severe. Blinding headaches and jaw pain that ibuprofen couldn't even fix. Dr. Berg, you are a gem, a blessing, an outstanding citizen. Thank you for your passion!
Well said sir. He has the voice the makes me listen.!
Same here with Dad, brother and me.

Grinding your teeth can lead to issues like:
• Excessive wearing of the teeth
• Teeth pain
• Headaches
• Jaw spasms
People who smoke, drink alcohol, or take SSRIs have a higher risk of teeth grinding (bruxism).
Bruxism can also be triggered by various things, including:
• Stress events
• Trauma
• Excess caffeine consumption
The best natural remedies for teeth grinding:
1. Vitamin B1 (nutritional yeast)
2. Vitamin D3

Breathe Right air strips are a quick fix to help open airway in your nose.
braces do not expand your jaw.
We also have terrible snoring in my family and wonder if there is correlation between the two.
I also supplement with various electrolytes, including magnesium, full-spectrum B vitamins, D3, and vitamin C (the supplements need to pass my taste test before I take them, so it's a mild B spectrum supplement.)
Yesterday for the first time, I took all my supplements in one go against my better judgment.

Geez Louise, do I know about this & the PAIN that it causes. I got a major flare up that’s been off & on for 2 mths. I think that if I did any type of deep tissue massage right now I’m going to craw out of my body. And I’m too chicken to try Botox. 😔 Right now I miss sleep 😴 BOTH sides of my face hurt, so sleeping is for long & right now it’s 3:25am waiting for Zanflex to kick in along with APAP & ASA & pain pill, cause the headaches that are being produced along with makes me want to SCREAM!! I’ve had double TMJ surgery but afraid that I may need it again. Also had braces 1 yr before surgery then after, bruxism, and a 4x4 crossbite. Let’s just say it was a mess. 🥴
~Take Care 🕊 and Thank you for your service. ✌🏻
Who would be the right doctor to give botox in the jaw? As far as Ik my dentist does not do this
I have been bruxjng for the last 40 years of my life. I am now 53. My jaw muscles are like steel. I can bite thru cables that hold up bridges! 😁
My teeth are slightly damaged, I do wear a splint most nights.
I hope these remedies help me, and if it does work, I will personally fly over to the US, and shake your hand, Dr. Berg. Who am I kidding, I'll hug you and kiss you on the face! 😘
Me and you, man.
👍
😆 🤣 😂
Omg. 😂 I same thing about my muscles, even Dentist, who try to do trigger point injections can barely get in the muscle they say it’s unlike anything I’ve ever seen. Well at least I now. know I’m not the only one.
what you said lol. I'm 53 too. Teeth grinding drives me nuts.
Jaw tension is also connected to your hips. If you have tight hip flexors, you'll likely also have tight tmj. It's helped me a lot to do hip stretches
also gallbladder-resentment
Interesting, thanks !
so crazy!!
Thank you
I have TMJ/TMD and tight hip flexors
Thank you Dr. Berg! It would be great if you do a video about Bruxism and young children. God bless you 🙏
B1, B3, VitD. Works amazing, Thanks Dr Berg
I just bought B1 and i just took one from Walmart 😊
Dentist here. Grinding your teeth can also be from parasites. I have my patients do a parasite cleanse first to rule that out. A small airway can also make you brux. Magnesium glycinate at night can help with the physical stress, as well.
@joans8945 How do people do a parasite cleans? It over the counter or a prescription?
@@curiosoclassicus7315
You can do either. Over the counter herbal brands are easy to find

Good to know, thanks.
same here, i am 55 and my teeth have been damaged because of grinding.
Hi
I totally agree- thanks for your comment !
🌸👱🏼♀️🌸
Can you elaborate?
I do it and I had an idyllic childhood with zero trauma, trust me no one was more happy than I in childhood so there has to be something else.
Thank you for pointing that out
My bruxism went away after taking B1 (Benfotiamine) and D3 and I stopped taking my SNRI (Duloxetine). Thanks again Dr Berg! 🙏
That's great news!
U mean vitamin B1 be vitamin D3?
@@Ibegazelle Benfotiamine is a lipid soluble version of B1
I have fractured 8 teeth over the years. Very sad. I have had 6 different nite guards.
My jaw always feels like it is trying to crack a walnut. TMJ is brutal. Many suicides have been caused by TMJ.
Excellent info. Thx
Have you tried Botox?
I've done it since I was a kid. I stopped chewing gum and that helped a lot! I don't smoke, drink or consume caffeine. I do take D3 and B vitamins.
I grind my teeth too. Over time I have cracked some molars doing it. I sleep with a nightguard now. Wish I would have noticed this much earlier in my life.
What brand?
You are an inspiration to many people who will not tell us the true cause of teeth grinding . Will definitely follow those remedies. Keep it up 👍 👏 👌
Thanks Dr. Berg👍🏻
I actually ruined one of my molars by bruxing, and also from the horrible morning sickness I had with my pregnancies which caused me to be able to eat very little in my first trimesters and resulted in me lacking in nutrients. It would have been great if I'd known better during my pregnancies. Live and learn.
I lost my 2 front teeth due to chipping and eventually decay.
Thank You Dr. Berg for this video. I grind my teeth ALL day long. I feel like it's a habit now and I'm trying to stop it. I purchased your Nutritional Yeast,
d3/k2 I'm going to buy your B1 next! Dr. Berg is
🌟AWESOME🌟
I've had this teeth grinding since I was I kid. My mom would tell me how she could hear me grinding my teeth from outside my room. I've never smoked, never drink alcohol, but I'm usually very anxious, nervous and stressed. I'm 20 years old now, and I have to wear that plastic cover to avoid damage, but I still have pain in my jaw. Also I have the inside of my cheecks always midly bitten and dry lips. I will take a DNA and blood tests and start taking B1 and D3 if needed. And will update this comment with the results, thanks for you work.
Are you doing over the counter by chance? I’m currently doing that and my jaw still hurts-but I heard it’s from an improper fit. I am going to send in my custom fit tonight, to hopefully have a better experience.
@@LLCoolJ_25 It took 2 weeks to have a decent fit for the plastic cover. Having a good fit is essential to avoid part of the pain and avoid the grinding of teeth. But it doesnt eliminate jaw pain
@@xalex7923 ahh, okay. I did double check and I do see where some articles say a dental guard will not help with TMJ.
How was it?
Try to warm banana on pole and eat see if this helps ?

Dr. Berg PLEASE do a video on the cause of yellowing teeth! My teeth used to be sparkly white with zero effort and now they are so dingy no matter what I do. I'm guessing it may be a vitamin or mineral deficiency but I don't know which one🤔

Based on my experience I believe that cortisol is involved as well. So reducing stress should help.

Hey neighbor!...from Blaine, Mn.🖤
Good morning. Thanks for watching the video.
I will take some supplements which I may need. I will have to record myself at night to see if I am still grinding my teeth. My smart watch tells me I have been getting about 7 to 8 hours of sleep a night. Thanks for your advice.
Do you wear a night guard?
You are amazing Dr. Berg! Thank you for sharing this with us! I am very relaxed now, thanks to you! I use to have anxiety very bad. It’s completely gone now.
I’ve had it as long as I can remember and cannot wear anything to help with it. I wake up grinding my teeth & sometimes chewing my tongue (not bad enough to wound myself but still). I don’t smoke but used to. I don’t drink alcohol and I’m not on any meds. This is helpful. Thanks
Omg you really have answers for every single health issue. Thank you, Dr. Berg! ❤
finally, some information about what's happening in the brain during teeth grinding. it's stress related for me and I used to grind all the time but it's been about 6 months since it's been bad. I've been eating nooch regularly and have fixed my vitamin during those 6 months so there does seem to be a correlation.
Superb video!
Thanks again for sharing your knowledge.
Peace and blessings!
No problem. Glad you like the video. Have a nice day!
Its nuts how something is going on with me or im thinking of something and then dr. berg comes out with a video. Its happened so many times. Thank you dr. berg for all the free information and help.
I hope that helps!
Hi Dr.
Try Botox it helps
The issue with wearing it during the day…is if you’re going to an office somedays.🫠 Sure, I’ll just take my dental guard out with all that saliva to talk to my boss, lol. Then I’ll put it back in constantly throughout the work day. I know I’m being too literal. I know they are probably meaning where you can. Anyways, I relate. I am a stressed person in general. I think I have a stress addiction and I get all my worrying from my dad’s side. Somehow have to find a way to destress from work, even though you’re dealing with psychopathic behavior constantly.
Might need more B1, check out EO Nutrition on youtube.
Stop eating sugar
(easier said than done though!).
for hollow teeth maybe try SMALL doses of K2, small doses coz high doses can be dangerous for the heart

I am 64 and have been grinding for years. A tooth guard helped for awhile but i now have ear fullness, decreased hearing and dizziness. I think its all caused by jaw muscle inflammation near the ears . Has anyone else experienced this and found an answer? I will try the supplements.
I had a dentist tell me it’s common for bruxism to occur aa a side effect to nighttime GERD/reflux. It’s good to see more info on this issue - good video.
yep and back drip too...Its so horrible...sometimes acv helps tho.

We often found cracked teeth as a symptom of Bruxism in an oral surgery practice where I worked.

Get your ferritin level checked. Mine is in the 50's and I get tinnitus from it.
You are such a nice, knowledgeable doctor. We can always rely on you to give the best advice. Have an Awesome day.
I’ve had bruxism all my life. I also, do it during the day, subconsciously. It’s ruined my teeth causing many root canals. Listen to your dentist, I was too vain to wear a mouthpiece. Implants and bruxism are a painful combination.
