It really is hard to describe to someone who doesn't play guitar or listen to a lot of high-level guitar playing, just how hard it is to play what Tim Henson plays. From the rapid harmonics to the hybird picking and then combining that with all your typical hard shit (speed, sweeping, tapping, etc) is just unreal.

You're askin how the Old Folks like this ??? Well I'm what my kids call a BOOMER even though I'm 10 years younger than that !!! I grew up with Nuno Bettencourt from EXTREME and Stevie Vai and Yngwie Malmsteen. Eddie Van Halen set the bar when we were kids and we all became better players for it. Once in a generation there's somebody that just sees the guitar differently and interprets what it is supposed to sound like in a new fresh way. Your generation gets Tim Henson to carry the torch of innovation. At first I was put off by the fact that they don't use a vocalist, but after hearing ALL of their music I don't think that even the best singer in the world could really add any value to what they are already doing. Enjoy the Polyphia Rabbit-Hole. I first discovered them with the song G.O.A.T. and knew that your generation was in for a treat. PEACE AND LOVE PEEPS.

"Back in the day" all you had to do was turn on the radio or go to the record store to hear a band combining a little from this genre & that genre creating a whole new sound being released. It was endless. It's fantastic to hear true musicians playing ACTUAL instruments who have honed their craft & are pushing boundaries. Thanks for reacting to this, Rico & Crys.

Rico, you asked what some of us older folk thought. Once I got past how incredibly perfect these musicians play and how sexy the song & vibe was my first thought was "there's hope for this generation." My second thought - I'm downloading this immediately.

I have a friend who's in his early 20's, and we had a long discussion/argument earlier this year about today's music as compared to my era. I've insisted since 1990 that music has gone down the toilet, and the fact is, it's actually quantifiable, and objective opinion. There's even been studies/documentaries made proving out the difference in talent and skill set. He told me that actually, the past decade has seen the most talent. I laughed at him. Then he sent me G.O.A.T.
But "hope"...I dunno. Most kids don't appreciate it. Not at all like we did back then. I just watched a YT recommended video after a new Tears For Fears song (that I enjoyed a lot) and what YT recommended to me was a young "artist" whose "music" was utter *garbage* ...noise pollution. Yet the artist was being cheered on in the comments by the kids. I could've wrote the song in under one minute.
      (End rant)

Polythia is one of kind, they have a couple of real virtuosos and they put their music together in a way which seems amazing and flawless, but in addition if anyone else tried to do it, it would be damn near impossible. And just to give an example, this is the type of band where world class guitarists sit down and watch and then go "wtf just happened there?"

Polyphia are modern shredders(virtuosic musicians and compositions)
Shredders from the past and many still around today that influenced this kind of genre are Steve Vai, Yngwie Malmsteen, Cacophony, Marty Friedman, Jason Becker, Vinnie Moore etc. I know polyphia are fans on Steve Vai. The great thing that keeps Polyphia fresh and interesting is that they infuse pop, and hip hop and many other styles into their music.
I recommend checking out Polyphia’s “Impassion” and “G.O.A.T” back to back. One being early in their career and the other is current. Quite the contrast but but both very good.

  • @Ultra-Collector
    @Ultra-Collector Рік тому

They’re playing the vocals on the guitar.
For instance the 1st beginning guitar solo after Tim’s intro in God is not a guitar solo!
It’s simulating a🔥azz rapper coming out hard AF and dropping the first verse!
Then immediately after Tim Henson drops the second verse hard AF again!
Their music is based on musicians writing ,composing and mixing all genres of music.
Creating all the bass parts, vocal structures, guitar harmony’s ,hip hop rap and R&B vocals ,then playing them all at once, together on just a guitar done by one person ,or in this case ,individually buy each of the two guitar players.
Polyphia simply mixes all genres of music ,their rock and rap harmonies and their vocal lyrics ,then all written, composed and played on a single guitar ,wether they’re live or in studio!
It’s one man doing what a 5 piece band can barely all do together and it’s Ultra impressive to say least.
Unequivocally this is next level complicated music with more emotion and structure than some give them credit for!
The bottom line is It’s not just music but artistic writing and musical brilliance at some of it’s absolute finest and most genius!
As a professional studio musician ,Drummer and lead guitarist I can say I both hear and feel the absolute magnificence of Polyphia!

Maybe I can explain it a little better. I'm 65 and over the years I've heard a lot of non-traditional music. What this is to me is a combination of Lo-Fi, hip-hop smooth jazz and classical guitar and Metal with just a touch of anime all smoothly Blended together... And by god it works. And if you think this is incredible listening to some of the music by Ichika Nito a Japanese fingerstyle guitarist especially his compositions called Awakening and Orb. He has done compositions lasting anywhere from 30 seconds up to almost five minutes that will leave you absolutely speechless from listening to it. Ibanez guitars has even built a signature guitar in his honor. And then one video all he is doing is running a tuning sequence it's called" cabbage" listen to it your ears and mind will thank you for it later

To me polyphia is a group that is just comprised of musical virtuoso’s who make songs that are basically unplayable, due to their level of technical difficulty, somehow sound relaxed and melodic. It almost seems that the tempo of the song is much slower than it is if you just listen not to closely. To give perspective, i would consider myself a fairly good guitar player and I can’t even figure out how they’re making some of the sounds they are. The way they use harmonics during the incredibly fast riffs theyre playing, while still having them come out sounding bright and clear, with sustain is mind boggling to me.

The band is a mix of Classical technique, Jazz influence and Hip Hop grooves to me. They very much fit in with the 80's and 90's Jazz fusion virtuoso music from artists like Al Di Meolo, Paco De Lucia, John McLaughlin, Steve Vai, Eric Johnson, Steve Morse, Alan Holdsworth, Miles Davis etc. and others. Not your run of the mill teeny bop rock or 80's hair bands in the day but musician's music. Wish them the best. Today people sit and play keyboard on the computer which is fine to a degree. Artistry is hardly there. They are to me a throw back to old school but with new processing and production tech in those terms. And to me at 52 years of age I love that there are still artists like them. Tons of garbage and production out there without the chops.

Everyone's gonna say check out "G.O.A.T" but you should also check out some of their early stuff like "Impassion" and "Transcend" They been around for about 12 years. Theyre from the Dallas area. Also, ive been wanting you guys to check out Dance Gavin Dance. Polyphia has gone on tour with them twice. Start with "We Own the Night" or "Inspire the Liars"

It's not salsa, but I know you what you mean in terms of the latin vibe. Technically, the first half would be flamenco and classical elements and the second half the song would have the jazzy bossa nova elements. What brings it out is because they're using nylon string acoustic electric guitars in this song. The trap beats, triplets and the drum fills were great too.

NOT "Salsa," people, you were looking for Flamenco, like Paco DeLucia or Al DiMeola. And the whistling section, the cool jazz in the white house, sounded kinda Brazilian - these lads must have spent their COVID time listening and writing. And that KILLER drummer is Clay Aeschliman.

Well, I am 55 and I can assure you that the older crowd (of musicians and progressive music lovers anyway) are absolutely enamoured with groups like Ployphia, CHON and Plini...Just to name a few in this genre.

polyphia has been around for a while, back in the day they had a different drummer and were more metal but they've grown since and started writing crazy stuff like this. I'd reccomend listening to 40oz or aviator if you wanna hear a different heavier sound from them
