- Hi Guys!
Today I'm reacting to something totally different, being POLYPHIA with their new song "PLAYING GOD".
I never heard of this band before, but lately saw a lot of thumbnails of reactors doing this one and I was so curious what it was all about, did I miss out perhaps?
Find out in the video! ;)

Guys, my apologies first of all, because I abruptly disabled my reaction to "Polyphia - Playing God" on my first upload.
I explain what happened during the livestream I did earlier today. ua-cam.com/video/dgTgiASYHM8/v-deo.html
That said, because I kinda had to redo this last-minute, the subtitles haven't been enabled yet. I will fix this as soon as possible! ;)
Thx for your understanding and support! I hope you enjoy the video! ;)
Here’s your homework, 40oz, OD, then GOAT. Them three at a minimum.
The worst, nasty, then saucy
Drown, icronic, then nightmare
Blood moon, crosty and then saucy
We could make that list even longer :D
You’re wrong not to put The Worst on here
@@itsKhoaNguyen I said minimum…..
You nailed the hip hop influence. Tim tends to write in a bit of an unusual way. Typically he writes melody in a DAW, embellishes it, then figured out how to play what he wrote on guitar later. After he's put together the basic melodic elements, the band works together to fill everything out. He's heavily inspired by trap, pop, and lots of other genres, which really shows is his approach to songwriting.
Yup next up you gotta hear GOAT! Then OD, Look but don’t Touch, 40oz, Yas, Nasty… and whatever else you can find from them lol. Outstanding musicians!
i approve this message
Goose is one of my favorites as well!
Literally everything by them is amazing. The worst and Saucy are my top picks.
Tims blood moon and umbrella flip are my favorite of his solo works
Goose as well it's so good
Those are some nasty list! All dope!! Nice choice
The band:
Tim Henson - guitar and primary songwriter
Scottie LePage - guitar
Clay Gober - bass
Clay Aeschliman (sp) - drums
They are an instrumental band.
Those guitars are nylon acoustic-electric with piezo bridge. They are custom from Ibanez but i heard they are going in to production in future.
Thx for the info! They sound and look really interesting!
the guitars were made specifically for them by ibanez lacs, they are not going into production. Perks of being a tier 3 ibanez sponsored guitarist.
@@CelestialDispatch actually Tim commented on one of his recent livestreams that Ibanez is going to start making them.
They're definitely using nylon strings. These guys are known for their very unique sounds and inspiration of all genres of music!
Polyphia react videos are pretty algorithm friendly and do well at a bar level. If you’re able to provide entertaining commentary and insight in your reactions (much like what you provide in this video), there’s a good chance your react videos will do well, so definitely react to more Polyphia! Because their music is very technical, it also attracts a crowd that enjoys analysis, so commentary in that vein may do well.
Thx for the tip, Alfred! Appreciate the support!
This phenomenal! Thanks so much for the reactions. My musical listening list just grew. Love them! Thanks again, YB.
You did an awesome job articulating what you were hearing *and* seeing, and focused on a lot of the things that really make Polyphia unique. This was a really fun reaction to check out, thanks for sharing!
I am so glad you've discovered Polyphia! They instantly became one of my favorite bands when I first heard them. I can't pick just one song to recommend so my favorites from them are: Nightmare
40 oz.
G.O.A.T.
Finale
Champagne
This piece is truly incredible imo. Some other recommandations : GOAT, OD, 40oz, Nasty, Bad...
They're incredibly interesting because you can see their style change with the different songs they put out. Tim Henson (lead guitarist) is a marvelous guitar player and has a very unique way of composing for guitar : he'll basically compose on a MIDI keyboard, and then try to figure out how to do the notes on the guitar. He has a channel where he explains a lot of stuff about this, super interesting. You definitely should check out some of his solos like Blood Moon, his part of the Biggest Shred Collab in the world III, or even his add named "Archetype : Tim Henson" for his plugin.
Dope reaction as always 😉
Thx so much for the info, very interesting indeed! Glad you enjoyed the reaction as well! ;)
I think ur the first channel that mention NIGHTWISH AS FAVOURITES, FINALLY theres someone who loves Nightwish !!! ❤
Really? That surprises me with the whole Nightwish Army. I actually watched some channels that contemplated or decided if it was their favorite band at that point in time😛 thinking of TankTheTech and Alex Hefner for example.
@@YBPlaysMusic for real?! Maybe its me who havent found them yet, welp glad to know your channel , now i know theres channel that ackknowledge Nightwish and the first song makes me fall in love is Sacrement Of Wilderness ! Keep it up bro ! 🙌
They're both much bigger channels than mine, you should be able to find them if you want to see their reactions :p TankTheTech has more NW reactions though.@@kazure99
And damn, I haven't even heard that song from them, I think! Might have to do that one in a future reaction! :D
@@YBPlaysMusic i see, thanks for the recommendation, i already sub to you btw, ohh man you should really do a reaction on Oceanborn album (Tarja), and Dark Passion Play (Olzon) before Floor . These two albums i think makes NW skyrocket in the Symphony Metal genre ! Have a look whenever u free 🙌
"You see the way they play...it's their lives.". That's exactly right, really well put. Also want to give you props for recognizing the bass player, Clay Gober. One of very few reactors to do that.👍
Nice to see musicians react to these guys and appreciate the insane innovation instead of seeing the average listener wait for the intro to end. Polyphia has some great stuff Tim Henson does some amazing work on his YT channel his Blood Moon riff is awesome and if you want to see someone else that is super technical check out Ichika Nito starting with Awakening.
Best luck to you and your channel growth!
Great content!
Thank you so much 🤗 Really glad you like it!
very good reaction.. cant wait to see more reactions of polyphia by u
That "what the hell?!" when flamenco picado starts was so funny x)
The first half of the video is shot in the Hall of State at Fair park in Dallas Tx.
Oh ok so it is a real location! Thx for the info, johnathan! ;)
I love Polyphia. I have described to my friends that Polyphia is...music for musicians. Similarly yet definitely more so, Snarky Puppy. My goodness, I really love that band
My friend... This is Flamenco progressive!
People don't realize how big they are going to be. This changes everything. Tim Henson will be a household name-word .
Omg you have to hear The Worst by Polyphia. It's my absolute favorite by them
Wanted to comment on the drums since I didn't see anything in the first bit of comments that I read. For their studio recordings, I believe they primarily use a electronic drum set, which leads alot of people top think the drums arent really being played. However, you can find tons of videos showing Clay playing these pieces on traditional sets, how insanely skilled he really is.
Is that an Electra Super Rock or an actual Gibson in the background? I have an Electra identical to that one in my lap right now, I haven't had it but about 6 months and it really quickly became my favorite guitar in my collection
not sure if anyone has mentioned this yet, both tim henson the front guitarist and john lepaige the other guitarist both have their own signature Ibanez guitars
I really love this band and I keep showing it to my friends and love the first time listening to something you don't expect.
This is a single preceding their 4th album which I don't know when it'll be released but im fucking excited hahaha.
This are my TOP 5 recommendations for you.
- G.O.A.T. - Most known song until now. Placed on top 10 riffs of the decade, alongside, 7empest - Tool, Arctic Monkeys - Do I Wanna Know, Metallica, Dream Theater...
- Look But don't touch. - You have to watch the music video as well haha and you'll get some vocals
- Drown (Feat. Mateus Asato).
- Bad -
- So strange. Ft Cuco - With lyrics
Also their drummer did competitive drumline in high school which explains a lot of his style
Just true Brilliance and a lot of work. 'Touched by the Hand of God'.
Aviator with Jason Richardson’s solo is insane too
Would anyone know if Polyphia makes their own samples to use in these tracks?
Time signatures and syncopation at it's best. Every one of them is amazing. I'm a sucker for spanish, nylon style. Just such a real sound. And that drumming....
In regards of their routine casual attitude while shredding,..don't you forget this is a video clip, no instrument is plugged, they just listen to the song and act as if they are play,ing...the challenge is not the same, you can be more focused on your acting then on your playing. However great musicianship here I agree.
Tim Henson learns his songs so far, that he can literally play them with eyes closed. He mentioned that in an interview
Wile they didn't invent it, Ibanez uses the "Tree Of Life" inlay design on a lot of their guitar necks. Really gained popularity when it was used on Steve Vai's Ibanez JEM 7 series guitars in the 80's. And those are Talman Nylon string acoustic/piezoelectric guitars that you and I cant get because they were custom built for them by Ibanez. It must be so cool to be guitar royalty like that!
The only thing I feel I need to add to the other comments is that they are doing some Hybrid Picking where they hold the pick as normal and then finger pick additional strings for extra notes.
They’re playing the vocals on the guitar.
For instance the beginning guitar solo in Playing God is not a guitar solo!
It’s simulating a🔥azz rapper coming out hard AF and dropping the first verse!
Their music is based on musicians writing ,composing and mixing all genres of music.
Creating all the bass parts, vocal structures, guitar harmony’s ,hip hop rap and R&B vocals ,then playing them all at once, together on just a guitar done by one person ,or in this case ,individually buy each of the two guitar players.
Polyphia simply mixes all genres of music ,their rock and rap harmonies and their vocal lyrics ,then all written, composed and played on a single guitar ,wether they’re live or in studio!
It’s one man doing what a 5 piece band can barely all do together and it’s Ultra impressive to say least.
Unequivocally this is next level complicated music with more emotion and structure than some give them credit for!
The bottom line is It’s not just music but artistic writing and musical brilliance at some of it’s absolute finest and most genius!
As a professional studio musician ,Drummer and lead guitarist I can say I both hear and feel the absolute magnificence of Polyphia!
-Crisis
Lolol up Tim Henson biggest shred Collab part.. nutz
"The middle guy" lmfao
Tim's guitar is a custom Ibanez. And yes nylon strings.
They're both playing nylon string Ibanez semi-acoustics.
New levels, new devils = 🔥🔥🔥
You absolutely have to check out Marcin! Maybe you already know him or of him, but really amazing stuff to react to for sure! He is a Polish prodigy, very gifted. Completely unique percussive style on sn acoustic. Endorsed by Ibanez and has his own signature guitar now.
I've played nylon since I was five. Acoustic all the way. This is just beyond.
What a sophisticated swag.
because i love your reactions i clicked on this and wow. something completely different and obviously the guitar playing is extrordinary. I wish they have just stayed with the first venue
Glad you got to know them through my video, Steve! Thx for the support so far! Indeed they sound totally different!
2nd half of the song was bossa Nova (Brasilian) music
The big star room is the Texas capital in Austin
Harry Mack on drums, ladies and gentlemen. lol
I believe their lead guitarist is using a acoustasonic telecaster which is a fend guitar that sounds like an acoustic but the playability to do faster stuff like an electric.
No, they are custom built Ibanez semi acoustic nylon string guitars.
React to more Polyphia they are amazing!
My friend... The Warning please!
Agreed! You gotta go back and react to G.O.A.T. That’s the song that hooked me! Great reaction!!!! I loved your video!!!! Please check more of their music. They are amazing. They are influenced by all genres but they put their twist to creating their own sound!
Will do!! Thx for the suggestions, AM!
You should also watch Tim Henson’s unplugged version of this song
6:00 - government building, but same thing amirite?
I could have sworn that was Tim Lambesis on the drums
I just found your channel so you probably have seen the making of - video for this song. They are real violins, real whistles and real human voices, done by hired musicians.
correct on the nylon strings
Do GOAT or "Look but dont touch" by them next.
Check out Travis Barker, Quest Love, Yussef Dayes and some other top drummers in the hip hop/soul community. Making a hip hop beat on drums is easily done by many drummers today. Also, many hip hop artists travel with a full band now instead of rapping over a backtrack. Live instruments are always better.
please react to “Marcin & Ichika Nito - Acoustic vs Electric” THAT SHIT’S CRAZYYYYY TOO!
Nice, very early into the song and the drums get called out.
They just trying best with blend each other. U know., They r the best but no ego above their band
You should know a lot more about this band. Watch their individual playthroughs too.
Song Captions: [Music]
I'm glad I'm not the only one who noticed that. It cracked me up. [Applause]
Haha indeed! Well, I didn't know beforehand if there would be any :p
Hey dude, just watched your video, you should definatley check out yas and goat, watch everything of theres, they are from a different universe! Like ya vid too, nice one 👍
The Tree of Life inlay is a staple of Ibanez, and damn does it look so sexy on these custom nylons
Nylon strings done right
Shhhhhhhhhhhh
F
If you react to Polyphia- O.D.; G.O.A.T, Look but don't touch, Nasty, the worst anything from these within 48 hours of this comment; i swear i will subscribe 😈
Hi, Samrak! Thx for the suggestions! Well, in the next 2 days is not possible for me, my planning is 1 tutorial per week, usually on Wednesday and 2 reactions per week, one on Friday and one on Sunday.
I'll do my best for one this Friday! ;)
@@YBPlaysMusic The fact that you replied on my comment this quick, also explaining your issue; damn man you already earned my trust and support and subscription 😈🖤🎸
I just wanted to see you react ASAP; TAKE YOUR SWEET TIME MAN 🖤🎸
@@samrakkc8595 oh thx man, really appreciate the kind words!
@@YBPlaysMusic Always 🤘
@@YBPlaysMusic The one in ge middle is Tim Henson; Please check out his part in "Jared Dine's World shred Collab" and his under a minute videos on Tim Henson's youtube channel; you can cover over 3-4 different videos in a single reaction
Dear reactors: Please stop showing yourself reacting to the best bit in the intro. Its like showing the big reveal in the trailer of a movie.
Dear Jeremy, I understand where you're coming from, but these previews are meant to interest viewers for what they're about to see, so they tend to look forward to watch this moment in full context during the reaction. It doesn't make sense to use a random moment that aren't particularly insteresting, right?
Also, in most videos, these moments tend to be more towards the end of the video, which a lot of people otherwise wouldn't wait for whilst watching.
I hope you understand.
Outstanding guitar gods, yes! But what about creative direction? I hear their amazing technical profiency and am blown away like everybody else. But when I break this jam down what I also hear is basic Flamenco rifs and Brazilian jazz, nothing original. This ia band for guitar god enthusiasts. There''s a reason you don't see females reacting nor do they appeal to the mass market audience...Too cerebral, too technical and no messy emtoionalism....
So you've never heard jazz, flamenco, or rock? Stop fanning the flames, these guys suck live
I have, not the combo of them though🙂 Wouldn't be able to say, haven't seen them live. Have you?
