I like how Playing God is becoming people's first introduction to Polyphia whereas it's been G.O.A.T. pretty much for the last 4 years.
God has been GOATED! 😂
Yas
100% this. They're both pretty unlikely songs to have such broad appeal, aren't they?
Playing god is way more complex armonically speaking: GOAT was really impressive, but playing god is litterally next level
Someone just introduced me to Polyphia like three days ago With G.O.A.T. but then I looked closer and found Playing God.. I instantly ordered "New Levels New Devils" on vinyl.
Tim and Scott get all the love, even Clay on the drums, but let's show some adoration for Clay Gober killing it on bass. The guy is rock solid...
Most definitely, cant imagine trying to keep time with all that going on around you. Tim and Scott are lightning, but the Clays have an incredibly difficult and important job of keeping everything perfectly timed. All drummers and bass players could use more credit!
He’s really adept at sitting in the pocket and giving you intricate flashes while not overdoing it alongside clay on drums
@@XannnyTanner I'm a guitarist/keyboard guy, and I'm the first to say, life is so much simpler with a good rhythm section...it just is. Particularly in the complex death/grind core metal we play...so many time changes, that constant solid background beat is so important for a foundation. And it's so much harder than it looks...
He is irreplaceable as their bass player he just gets how Tim and Scots minds work and nails it he is fast becoming one of my all time favourites 😎😎
Polyphia is music for musicians. The practice and dedication it takes to play at this level is mind boggling. People who have played any musical instrument for any length of time tend to really enjoy Polyphia music.
One of the things you will notice about their arrangements is that everyone has their time to shine. They each rotate around each other and go crazy, then fall to the back for someone else to take center stage.
You say that but Clay (the bassist) didnt really have his 'take center stage' moment in this song at all, like he has in many other songs. He was very much in the background in this song, which is a shame. It's mostly guitars with a splash of drums. Not saying that's bad, but the 'take center stage' moments you speak of is very sparce.
@@lioganda Yea.. the bass was pretty lame overall given the composition for the rest of the band.
@@erikbouchard8911 i think clay plays exactly what is needed for this song x simple as xx
“Oh my god.. so many things at one time”
Sometimes after listening to them I feel like I just got in a fight.
The guitar is awesome... but what the bass player is doing is stunning. The bass is so perfect thats its mindblowing. The drummer is also crazy good. One of the coolest songs I have heard the past 2-3 decades
The intro on your video shows me someone that is having their mind overloaded with music. So many things to listen to and love it is almost like your mind short circuits.
I love their song "Yas"
Hell yeah man. Thanks for checking it out! These guy are just different. Like Candice said, their song GOAT is the go-to introduction to them, it's 3 years old though. This one just came out, and it's just as good imo. Don't have to react to it unless you want to. But if you do want to dive into a bit more. GOAT, Nasty, and OD are some of their tracks I'd recommend.
40oz is another great one that's more upbeat sounding but still extremely impressive
Don't forget Goose, such a sick song aswell
"It's kinda hard to get a feel for what kind of music this is" That was my first reaction to them and I feel it every time they release a new song. I've given up trying to describe it.
I just call it "very awesome music."
@@SeraphimxSins Hell yeah! I may not know you, but I know you're awesome. Cheers!
This was dope! This was my first exposure to them, but it won't be my last. Thanks!
Your voice is soothing as hell man
Never heard of this band before but this record is DOPE
My favourite track of theirs, insane 🔥🔥🖤
A friend at work played this track today and it was the first time I ever heard it and HOLY F**K I am a fan.
So glad you did this.
Tim Henson (lead guitarist with the tattoos) is making waves in the guitar world 🌎.
The best song/video to react to from them is GOAT 🐐.
Dope reaction 🔥🔥🔥
Man he is beyond just good that part was so obvious but the entire band just nailed this performance.
Papa Roach, has great taste in music I see. :)
@@deejayturtle 🐢☮️
Polyphia is great 👍 👌
@@garrett3689 love those guys. Amazing musicians ☮️
Good video, man. Best of luck with the channel
Love this band. Such talent! Also great audio quality on this video man!
I have never heard a single person say this wasn’t amazing. Glad you discovered it.
Math Rock is one of the most unique forms and styles of music I have ever heard! Nothing has ever hit me harder then the realization that I needed Polyphia in my life. Ever time that I have listen to these tracks, the worlds stops for a minute and I just feel a sense of joy come over me. Definitely something that is going to stick with me for awhile.
Check out the newer stuff from Unprocessed too. Their former style was djent/metal but now they are doing Polyphia's style with vocals and it is epic. They also featured Tim and bassist Clay from Polyphia in one of their songs. They've been my latest obsession.
The genre is classical/flamenco/bossa nova/prog/math/anime protagonist rock.
This is dope. More virtuoso guitar jams please, POLO.
ATL 7/30 show..I’m thinking we should expand our concert experiences?❤️🐢
@@rachaelwhite5961 🤯😲😍😁
Great job on the Ego Death Polo, I hope your doing well and that you are up for a cup of coffee. Keep up the good work 👏
Awesome reaction. I caught these guys at a metal show in New Orleans back in 2015 and I've been following them ever since. Their music is a blend of math rock, EDM, metal, jazz, hip hop, pop, and djent in the early days.
Liked, subscribed, and on the hook for ALL your stuff. Great, honest reaction to this ridiculously good band. The nylon/acoustic thing is new for them, and the Flamenco-style guitar work as well, to my knowledge.
And their rhythm section of Clay Gobot on bass and Clay Aeschleman on drums is every bit as unique and interesting as their two stellar guitar players!
So good
“I don’t know what that is, but I like it.”
Amen!
Excellent reaction!!!
Possibly the most pauses and starts I have ever witnessed in a reaction video. Congratulations.
bro you found the good shit
Less than a year and over 100k subs??? Damn okay. Imma sub just for that. You gotta be doin something right. Lol
Gotta do GOAT and O.D. Next
its the purest of Metal music ever
The greatest metal band of all time
@@Matt_M_again greatest Christian band of all time.
Check out”Chimera” by them.
if you cant feel this , then you must be dead, this was sic af!!! flamenco flavor with alternate picking , but watch his left hand play a bass line while running his harmonics... just wow!
“I’m completely new to this genre”
Yeah so is everyone else. Elevator music but make it prog. And I mean that in the best possible way.
they are kind of there own genre its inspired alot by hip hop tim henson has said
Welcome to the polyphia fam. Give “Goose” a listen!
This is amazing but like their other song GOAT even better. I find it easier to see and hear their individual talents and when it all comes together it’s amazing.
Polo. Do GOAT next!!
the bass goes hard af in GOAT too
@@atrioxairsoft5413 the bass is what keeps this song together bro it slaaaps
I actually prefer this song to GOAT, but I like both. I feel like I can show this to anyone and they can vibe with at least one or two parts of it. I feel like it universally has appeal and shows how talented they are as composers. I think GOAT resonates more with the prog crowd, but this speaks to everyone.
Don't feel bad man, this genre is new for everybody
You do not evaluate Polyphia. Polyphia evaluates you :)
Tim does a song with Jason Richardson and Luke Holland you would dig that too!!!
If you want a fun one to check out, check out 40oz by Polyphia
Hey 😊 I was wondering if you got the Cashapp request I sent you back in April?
We need some Rodrigo Y Gabriela! :)
Satori, or Diablo rojo. I'm down for this!
This style of music is called polyphonic music
I’m surprised that you liked this song so much and yet haven’t done much Polyphia since, if any. Their songs Bloodbath, Chimera, Look but don’t Touch, 40oz, O.D. and Yas! Are ALL bangers… you should definitely check out some more bro 👍
It's music for musicians basically, like jazz is for musicians.😂
Polo, tell me which performance you liked better after you hear Simon Grey 'Takuma.' This is probably a group you never heard of before. Completely different from Polyphia but absolutely badass too.
Fusion
Yes definitely fusion. Goes back to the 70’s with Chick Corea electric band. Al Demiola and others. Everything old is new again.
@@paullebl9556 Aye.. With the exception of None of them, being able to read music.
@@montreauxs Wasn’t aware of that and not a knock on their talent. Just all seemed familiar but I’m old and heard a lot of music of all types through the years.
Haven't even watched the video yet, but the disclaimer of saying that if it's not dope he'll let you know is pretty funny to me because I know after I press play this dude is going to lose his shit. Lol.
Awesome reaction, subbed! Check out G.O.A.T. and 40 Oz., other amazing jams from them
Welcome to the world of progressive rock/metal. Aka prog. My fav.
React to ABC Polyphia feat. Sophia Black
Hey man, you need to listen to Charles Berthoud play this on bass, it's much better!
Tim henson is just unreal
Yoo please react to another song from Token called Hot! Beat is one of the craziest you will hear
Just wondering, is he intentionally distorting the sound for copyright reasons, just sounds close enough to original to where I thought it might be an unintended issue, I’m down for it either way
I think it is fir copyright reasons I've seen alot of other people do it
Bossa nova shred
La rythme est un ton en dessous et la musique est plus grave, de base elle est baucoup plus aigue
We had better be careful here ... This kinda Vibe might just cause WORLD PEACE !!!
When your feelings are too complex for words ... write a better instrumental. ❤❤❤ Ah hell ... Pioneer your own Genre. LOL
Brother from another mother
Sister from another mister
N from another figga
ZULUZÃO? KSKKSKSKKSKS
is it just me or is the audio in a different key
It’s slightly pitched down yeah like half a semitone
We’ll kind of a new concept. However this was done in a different way years ago. Check out, John McLaughlin and Al Dimeola live in concert.
Is *Bad Ass* Good..?
Audio quality is pretty shit. Song sounds completely off.
Henson isnt my favorite of the new age of guitarists but man does he bring the chops
Who is your favorite? Do you consider Tosin and those guys "New Age" still? It is hard to define what new age is. I love most of the instrumental prog guitarist. So I am interested in finding more.
@@Zerosixious yeah its always arbitrary. Ichika is my favorite. The band yvett has Covet is probably my favrorite project. It just sounds organic. Polyphia are great for their hip hop oriented sound but for me it ends up sounds...hollow. too neat. Cold. The music itself is warm. But it just feels almost plastic. But the chops are all there and i respect the chops.
My personal favorite instrumental piece is Nuclear Power Trio. They only have 1 19 min ep out but its technical and uber funky. I follow the bassist around to whatever album hes on
@@unclebobboomergames ahh, so yeah, I would definitely agree that all of those are more new age than Misha, Tosin, and the other prog metal artist that rose to popularity around 10 years ago with the rise of Djent. Not that I would take away from any of them, and I still dig all of that stuff too. I actually didn't get in to Ichika until this year. I was sleeping I guess.
@@Zerosixious tosin is phenom im just not a fan of his music scene. Dudes got the goods though
In regards to your title quote "be yourself, they'll adjust"... If someone being themselves interferes with my life, theyre going to get trolled. I'm not going to adjust my day to accommodate some asshole
G.O.A.T by polyphia is much better
Can’t you people just stop pausing the video so many times and just enjoy the music before your stupid comments
If they want to monetize the video without a fair amount of hassle, no. The commentary running through the video as opposed to just at the end keeps them from getting copyright strikes.
Just listen to the song on its own if it pisses you off that much damn
Tim and Scott have really hit the reset button on guitar instrumental music. Steve Vai, Joe satriani and Eric Johnson are the god fathers of guitar instrumental music. But these guys have really taken it to a new lvl, and a unique outlook on guitar. Love these guys.
