Good work, it is a sharp looking car. There is a little lever on the drivers hood hinge that when pressed, the hood can go straight up/90° to the car. Gives you so much more room to work back there!
I really hate the plastics that are used in cooling systems. The plastic nipples that come off of the plastic ends of radiators will always fail in time. That's what happened to my 1977 Rabbit, so I had an all brass Chinese made radiator installed and not only did it never crack again, it did a much better job of keeping the coolant at the proper temperature with it's smaller channels, than did the aluminum radiator with it's large tubes.
JohnRoss, please have Elliot to help you fix cars lol. Regarding the Beauty Covers, at least you guys didn’t launch the bolts of the beauty covers and say “ you dumb beauty covers, it drives me nuts” like Mr. Celica did on a corolla lol.
Yes, the wood looks much better than the ugly carbon fiber, which is like the Emperor's clothes. The glass top is nice except in hot climates, where a driver will be baked like a potato no matter what he does with the A/C controls and the sun shade.
@@MDavidG1 Dude. Heat from the glass roof is not even a factor with the kind of A/C SL's come with from their E-Class spec system cooling a 2 seat interior. If that's not enough the sun shade is more than adequate and there's always ceramic window tinting of your darkest demands. But the glass roof is too beautiful an experience not to spec for your SL.
@@LawrenceMarkFearon I live in South Florida. I have had two R230's with the glass roof, an SL500 and a SL600. Yes, the A/C systems were great, but were no match for the summer afternoon heat, especially after the car has been parked outside for a while. I finally found an R230 without the glass roof (a 2007 SL65) and I am delighted not to have it. But I can imagine how up north, on a sunny winter/spring/fall day a glass roof would be great to have.
@@MDavidG1 There's solid roofs too but if I were overheating from the panorama roof, I'd just throw up a layer of heat blocking ceramic glass tint from Hūper Optik. Hey at least glass is an option and not mandatory.
My very first car was a 88 subaru sedan. Had the ea-82 1.8l flat 4 sohc aluminum heads and block. The crankshaft pulley is pressed fit and if not installed correctly while will come off while driving. I can't tell exactly how many times that pulley came off. I can remember multiple times it got so hot it lost compression! Oddly enough once I got the pulley correctly installed I put another 45k miles.
They should make an upgraded version for the valve that’s aluminum or metal so that this doesn’t happen again. Just like how Porsche made that upgrade on the coolant pipes in Hoovies old Porsche 911 turbo. That was the one that he had in that video where his old Toyota Previa van sharted it’s head gasket all over the wizards shop. Lol 😂
Elliott Alvis a lot of car manufacturers these days are using plastic parts in an effort to cut the cost of productions. The problem with that is they often don’t last when they are constantly exposed to heat cycles. Another common example of this is on modern BMWs. They use plastic electronic water pumps that are very prone to failure overtime. A good friend of mine is a very long time BMW enthusiast and he told me the reasoning behind it was something to do with the propeller on the plastic pumps. I forget what it was but personally I wouldn’t doubt that it is related to production costs
$60 part but if you would have kept on driving it, it would have turned into a $4000 repair bill. And I think the Car Ninja should ADD another 20% on top of the labor for all the youtuber's slowing him down while you help him 'work' on your hoopties!
Another great video Elliott! Thanks, made my Friday night here in cold wet Scotland hehe :) Ps if you fancy it I just uploaded a video on the Lexus RX L on my channel? :)
The part cost $60 but that isn't how much "the fix" is. There is a huge mark up on the part then the dealership labor costs. Not everyone has a Car Ninja.
Reason 1,245 to never drive someone else’s car. People seem cool letting others drive their toy until something happens and often, as is this case here, it was because the car is old and parts wear out.
