I’ve had my 1993 600SL (yes the 600 preceded the SL in ‘93) for 25 years and I continue to love it. It’s never seen winter and feels like I’m driving a brand new car when I take it out for my first ride each spring.
The M120 engine was a masterpiece. Renntech have made an SL74 and SL76 with the M120. The latter iteration with 575hp. That was monstrous back then but it set you back $200k with all the upgrades in the engine, brakes and suspension.
This is a cool car today as it was cool in 1999. Thank you for showing this beautiful thing. I hope the new owner admire thi vehicle, not just the investment. Thank you, I had a good time watching this video.
Who really cares about some acceleration numbers anymore? An electric Kia can beat a 90's Lambo in the 0-60 mph sprint. Completely meaningless. It's the FEEL that you get from these old cars without cheap and laughable huge screens and electric motors that break and cost 20K when they do. And these cars look SO much nicer than most of the new cars and the old Mercedes quality was just outstanding.
For me personaly, this is, the best looking car that i have ever seen. For my taste, these SL's are magic. I would put some Lorinser wheels and just take a ride.
R129's are renowned for their build quality and craftsmanship. All R129 V12's came with Mercedes ADS hydraulic suspension. On vehicles equipped with an Adaptive Damping System the driver can select the suspension ride quality at the push of a button. Mercedes with ADS has a button on the center console that allows them to select the stiffness of the suspension. Typically, you have three settings.
As a young boy my dreamcar was the Opel Senator. Later on the Audi 80 was the most beautyful car like the Mercedes in early 90’ts. And now I know…. Cars looking better until now 😀
Used to work as a mechanic at Mercedes back in the day, and oh boy, that generation, the R129 was top notch build quality! The metal wasn't that thin piece of sh** like it is on modern cars, the paint quality was great, the Interior ... you could feel it was made with the goal to be durable, the engine, well, 200.000km were nothing to those power trains! Too bad Mercedes did go downhill with their quality! I would chose an R129, W140 or W124 over EVERY modern Mercedes!
Autovlog Great Video I think it's awesome that you got to Drive that awesome Mercedes SL 600 and I think it's awesome that it has an N/A V12 and I can't wait to see what you'll review next
Yes , basically allows the car to pull off in second gear instead of first. Also the reverse gear has a second reverse gear which is also utilized in winter mode only!!
Those rims look great on the 129. I think they were first offered on the E-class of the same vintage, but are by far the best looking 17" standard rims.Would have been nice to have a review of this exceptional, rare example be done by someone with more than a cursory knowledge of the car.
that button is for the alarm system to switch it off. with the rollbar down is much nicer btw if you do the top down it wil sence if the bar is up and or the top will clear it mercedes have toucht about that. a w140 s class olso a icon.
God damm Mike 💪🏼🙏🏼 buy it .. they will raise in value soon a lot more than 38 K 😉 .. it’s really a cool and nice car 👍🏼 the only thing that is bothering me is the wood trim they mostly had back then , this is typical German thing with wood , also their furniture is big and heavy wood .. at least it was back then . And so cool it comes with a hardtop so you can drive it in the winter as well 👌🏻But buy it , if not this then another one .. you’re right about the generations .
Where are you in PA? I am also in PA, about ten minutes from LW automotive. I have an SL 600 that is cat delete. It sounds very good, but not obtrusive.
It’s not the 0-60 that is impressive in Mercedes of this era. It’s the 60-120. I had a 560SEL…. Yeah, it wasn’t blowing the doors off everything, but once it was on the highway… unstoppable. When it was floored and made the 3-4 shift and it felt like it was pulling harder? Amazing feeling, especially in something that old and heavy, the needle started to slow down around 125…. I swear, if the 0-60 was 7 seconds, the 60-120 was 7 more seconds practically….
You need to get one of these and put that exhaust that effspot had on it! That'll be one to keep forever! I've always been a fan of the R230 myself, and I don't mind the look of the new AMG SL that came out recently (actually prefer that to the new AMG GT), but this era of Mercedes (particularly the W140 S600) has seriously won me over simply because of that N/A V12 sound!
That V-12 was designed for smoothness not really 0-60 and most people that bought them prefer the silky-smooth ride and power delivery over a tire smoking 700 hp, a beautiful day for a relaxing drive suits that car perfectly. Yeah but a Volvo or ANY new fast car are twin turbo and look at Toyota and their Tundra disaster, HP means nothing if it costs 75 grand and its broken beyond repair with 5000 miles.
Now you need to find a SL73... just a little more ultimate me thinks. 😊

I still remember when I saw Princess Diana driving past my late father's restaurant back in the early 90s in a maroon SL.
Effspot Gordon’s maniacal laugh over the $12,000 exhaust will never get old. 😂
Coolest Mercedes ever!
For those that grew up watching Sopranos!
Cool video also
What a beautiful car. You are right, they do not make Mercedes cars like that anymore and that's a shame.

The sl74 is ~580, 76 was dynoed 615 at crank with heavy emissions gear fitted.

Thank you, I had a good time watching this video.
This is my definitive favorite SL generation! Currently have an active search for SL600s here in Sweden to see if anything interesting poppes up! 😊
Absolutely beautiful, a timeless classic work of art! I bet that V12 with a tune and full exaust upgrade could push out another 100 HP NA!

Get Lost

Hell yeah!!! The day finally comes, the day when Mike brings an old car to the channel, loved it ❤

This car is mint "slams trunks"
I remember Ludacris having on of these in his "Roll Out" video
This needs to be a series. Review the 90s/00s nostalgia cars.
Love the 4K quality yess
As a young boy my dreamcar was the Opel Senator. Later on the Audi 80 was the most beautyful car like the Mercedes in early 90’ts. And now I know…. Cars looking better until now 😀
Keep it up Mike, more modern classic reviews!

Yes, this is the ultimate SL and one of the best cars ever built 😊 Luckily, I own a 1996 SL600 myself 😊
When Mercedes was about Quality. I remember in the 90s seeing Michael Jordan driving vehicles like these on the News.
Outstanding car. Thanks for sharing and taking us along. They don't make them like they once did
Hi Mike great video great car 😀
Nothing like a V12 stuffed into an SL! Mine is an ‘18 SL 65 AMG!
Autovlog Great Video I think it's awesome that you got to Drive that awesome Mercedes SL 600 and I think it's awesome that it has an N/A V12 and I can't wait to see what you'll review next
You should buy one. Standing out from the crowd of UA-camrs!
That second button is for when the car needs towing somewhere.
Mike getting hench all that training is paying off 😂 👊🏽
“That switch is the “anti tow away” alarm, it’s not sport mode it’s a summer and winter switch “W” prevents wheel spin in winter conditions
Yes , basically allows the car to pull off in second gear instead of first. Also the reverse gear has a second reverse gear which is also utilized in winter mode only!!
So awesome reminds me of seeing these in car and driver or motortrend definitely my favorite years
Old but gold
I really, really want this car. I am researching flights from SAN-PIT. Great video Mike!
You need to get into a classic like that , you would love it !
This is nice content, Mike 🤗

This is a yrue SL!! Always loved the R129. 😛😛 Going up in sales real fast!!!
I always liked the 2005 SL55🤘
Great car! The S and W on the transmission means, S - Summer,(starts in 1st gear), and W - Winter,(starts in 2nd gear).
A key and a shifter? Amazing! :D
KEEP THESE CARS COMING
Great video!!
This is my dream car !!!!
W113 (1963-1971) are my favorites. manual transmission.
I like the look of the R129 over the R230 chassis
I had sl320 back then it was dream car sure 500 was better but 600 was a rocket man and so expensive like double price of 320 .....what a car
🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
that button is for the alarm system to switch it off. with the rollbar down is much nicer btw if you do the top down it wil sence if the bar is up and or the top will clear it mercedes have toucht about that. a w140 s class olso a icon.

Too damn good
Damn Bro u really looking good in this video, ❤
The ride wasn't too shabby either...
Lmao the hood part 0:40 I just did that today looking at a gt63 while my CLS is getting serviced 😂
Second button is to DE-activate the anti-tow alarm... for when you genuinely need to have it towed.
Mike you need this car for the channel! I would love to see you mod the shit out of it!
Beautiful car 😻
I think you should buy it Mike...
You could do a lot of comparison videos with this and the S65
Crazy how the c43 amg makes the same power as this beast with half the cylinders
Suspension is hydraulic and adaptable.
Why not drop the front by adjusting the suspension link at the block? Looks goofy that high in the sky

Mike secretly works for LW automotive 😅😅
@AndersonDick parece muito com a sua!! Carro incrível
What a BEAUTIFUL car...& with the top down *you* don't have to worry about messing up your hair. ;)
My mother still has hers a 1996 SL600 with a carlsson wheels
Nice video👍🏻
I thought 99-02 all got sport package body kit and Amg wheels. I looked at 1996 one time it had to many problems to buy tough.
No air suspension on these, pure hydraulics (SLS)
This is exactly what I would want too bad no manual
Legendary exhaust mod by Effspot. That was awesome
Wanted one of these sooo bad
They knew what they were doing back then
Duuuude!! What a car buy it lol
The last real, over-engineered Benz.
there was any of those v12 with manual transmission?
No.
What's that song name ij the beginning need it for when I'm driving through town in the merc
azucares - quavi
I own the slk230 amg.i love it its 1999.
mint condition as the seat trim falls apart lol
Yes completely irrelevant in a 25 year old car lol. Most cars have a bit more problems at that age. Enough to be at the junk yard by now..
do you know what a car is?
It’s a sexy dream car , I feel you ❤
Lifted spec!
Black series SL
What makes these so heavy? I'm sure the V12 is not light, but 4700 ibs is the weight of an SUV
Zonda exhaust sound
You need to get one of these and put that exhaust that effspot had on it! That'll be one to keep forever! Rule number one. Stop leaning your greasy hands and arms on a freshly detailed black car. 😂😂
I really don't know why UA-cam don't show me any of your new episodes. damn UA-cam.
❤❤😊
Yep,they don't make cars like they used to ,now the make Tablets on wheels !
r129's get a little annoying though with the headlights and removable hard top, why I went for a r230 LCI.
Mike you need this car, trade the Audi for this car please.
560SL Roadster
Totally agree that design from 2012 is hideous
Don’t be hatin on Volvos….😎
