    Funny story I thought of when he was talking about Autolite plugs: after a year or 2 of working on 90% German cars I did an ignition job on a Ford 4.2 Vulcan V6 and it ran like crap - because I had put Bosch plugs in it. Switched to some big copper electrodes (Motorcraft or Autolite, don't exactly recall but they're basically the same) and it ran great. Moral of the story is there is no single "best" spark plug; it's all about cylinder head/combustion chamber design and what a particular engine wants.

    • @istvanmeissler2238
      @istvanmeissler2238 3 роки тому +2

      When I was young, many years ago, I thought the idea that different engines prefer different spark plugs was silly. Boy was I wrong! I used to work on real old big gas engines and they definitely ran so much better on a certain brand of plug. I would switch out an equivalent one from another big brand and they ran so poorly. It does make a difference.

    Thank you for your videos. I spent years diagnosing, fixing cars, and cussing engineers as I beat up, and contorted my body to fix things knowing what I was looking at was designed poorly, and to fail. I finally did a deep dive into the why of everything costing more, being made with planned obsolescence, and being a nightmare to work on. Truth is the manufacturers investors, attorneys, and accountants have meetings that determine what is best for attaining acceptable profit margins. They have formulas to calculate when things will fail, how much it needs to cost to repair or replace for a predetermined acceptable profit margin for their investors. Then the engineers are told what to design based on the outcomes of the meetings between the accountants, and attorneys using their formulas, and calculations. The days of engineering, and manufacturing something with pride, and dignity to be the best it can in America be are sadly gone. The days of prioritizing planned obsolescence, and maximizing profits are unfortunately here. Greed in people is the problem. Hopefully we can somehow get back to everyone prioritizing pride, dignity, and quality manufacturing. As long as Government Reprrsentatives bail out wasteful, corrupt, self serving people running companies into the ground that are too big to fail as what happened with Government Motors (GM) it is not likely to change. To a return to values, and principles in America. What made America great. Virtuous people that refused to succumb to greed. Integrity, Dignity, Community. Cheers🤳
    I sincerely apologize to all the engineers for all my cussing, and for the fact that you are not free to best engineer something to be the best it can be because if you did companies would go broke that sold things that actually lasted. That has to be overwhelmingly irritating, and frustrating.

    I worked at a BMW dealership back when the 2002 745i was introduced. It was a smaller dealership and BMW ended up buying back 12 of our 2002's because we couldn't fix them and the BMW reps couldn't fix them. We had a few customers that were on their third 745i buy back. One car would take all night to reprogram so the software updates were super slow. Years down the road we use to say the 2002's and 2003's were pretty safe to buy because they had been in the shop so many times that they were pretty sorted out. Still i think they're a better looking model than the current ugly cars. The Bangle butt aged well.

    Worked on many an N62 here in the UK and I can completely attest too what your saying, known for their many oil leaks, the time needed to do the seals on that alternator bracket, PCV valves perishing and most bmw petrol engines don't like Aftermarket spark plugs, also seen plenty of poorly fitted valve cover gaskets leading to misfire issues when warm, the best one is when I find people have got the vanos solenoid connectors the wrong way.
    Great video though, no dramatised segments, just straight up talk, reminds me of myself a little lol

    You must DREAD seeing someone coming in with their "bargain" early 2000's German car they got for a few grand and you have to be the one to break the news what repairs/parts will cost, I would love to own a late model BMW/Porsche but when I shopped I would go around to the repair/shop portion of the dealer and ask what an oil change, tune up would cost and quickly learned what I could afford to buy I couldn't afford to own. On my 6th Vette after a number of JDM products. Thanks for showing me how right I was by your thorough and entertaining videos. Very classy sir.....

      If you're willing/able to do your own wrenching it's not so bad. Parts cost can be a little high, but the labor is what gets you. I'm familiar with the Corvette tax as well, but most of the regular maintenance items are pretty reasonable.

    I have owned three German cars. When I lived in Germany I owned a BMW320, then when I got back to the states I owned a BMW 633CSI, and Finally a Mercedes SLK320, ALL three had constant electrical problems. Fix one and another would pop up. The SLK had intermittant starting problems (Not battery or starter related). Sometimes when it wouldn't start and when I turned the key my garage door would open and close with the turn of the key.

      This kind of cars (m cars ecc) are for people who can afford it and have the money to maintain them. The problem with people is that they buy an bmw or any other expensive brand and when they have to 💵💵💵 they don't and then start complaining how unrelayable the car is + some abuse the car non stop like is a race car. Doesn't work that way.
      Those cars are not made for everybody but some people just don't get it.

    I always hear people confuse the relationship between engineers and designers. Designers come up with a design, while the engineer does the math to make it work. The designer said something like, "Could we make this work so we can lower the profile this much so we can have longer control arms/lower hood/ longer passenger compartment/whatever?" The engineer rolled his/her eyes and said, "Yeah, we could make it work that way... but... heat, working life, maintenance..." Marketing and administrative knows the data that the average ownership on a BMW is three years, so they said, "Great! Let's go with it!"

I don't want to be a racist or anything, but this video lacks the American style of being big, praised, cool, dumb, etc. It's just so relaxing, but on the other hand full of technical content. You guys have issues… ‘Happier’? This shop is cleaner and more professional-looking, but that’s what a ‘certain type’ of Euro-car snob…er…owner demands from a mechanic. He probably commands higher rates as well. If anything, the environment at Omega is way more relaxed and easy-going. ‘Look like shit’? I’ve never seen Omega look dirty or unkempt. It’s a much larger, more open space, and he stores parts in the same area as the cars… It’s a mechanics shop. What do you expect? A hospital? ‘Wizard is a clown’? Who cares about his personality if he’s a competent mechanic? ‘Wizard is sleazy’? When? I know my way around cars, and he pretty much tells it like it is…
      You also realize these guys are fairly friendly with each other outside of their shops, don’t you? 🤦‍♂️
