    When I was a kid ( here in Vancouver ), my mother bought a 1963 Acadian Beaumont wagon with a 194 CI engine. The Beaumont was a bit of an upscale trim package. The other model Acadian was the Canso. In 1965 my father bought a 1965 Acadian Beaumont coupe with a 283 - white with a black vinyl roof. A few year later, in 1971 when I got my driver's licence, I got a job at our local Chev-Olds dealer ( Duecks ). I don't recall seeing too many of the cars badged with just Beaumont on them. We always referred to the Acadians as Canadian Pontiacs. There were a number of, what were essentially Chevrolet cars, that were badged as Pontiacs. By way of comparison, the Firebird was what we called an American Pontiac. When it had the 350 CI engine, it was not the same engine as the Chevy 350.

    The Beaumont is basically a Chevelle with Pontiac styling and a Pontiac GTO interior.

      Well, more Tempest/LeMans. GTOs had wood then woodgrain/looking dash.

    I found this very interesting , I’m up in Canada and towed a 1966 Beaumont custom from my neighbours over to my place. It sat for 20 years after he tried to restore it. Original colour was the black with red interior . It’s a custom , I haven’t figured out what to do with it yet , could be parted out or restored , had a vinyl roof that created a bad rust issue and sails are in bad shape. Lots of good info. Thanks.

    • @garythegear
      @garythegear  2 роки тому +1

      That's good to hear thanks, we are also in Canada and have a soft spot for Beaumonts, it's really tough decision weather to part out or restore a car the Beaumonts were basically all Chevelle and lots of reproduction parts are available However the trim pieces that make it a Beaumont are very tough to find, either way if you do decide to restore your car that's great and if you part it out someone else's may get completed so I try to see it all as positive just confirm your not stripping a SD Beaumont as they are one of the rarest muscle cars out there thanks for watching 👍

    I would think another reason people thought the Acadian and Beaumonts were Pontiacs is because they were sold from the Buick/Pontiac Dealerships and the Chevelles were sold from Chevrolet/Oldsmobile dealerships. Kelvin mentioned Fargo Trucks and those were sold at the Chrysler/Plymouth Dealerships and the Dodge Trucks were sold by the Chrysler/Dodge dealerships. Same goes for Ford and Mercury Trucks..

    • @garythegear
      @garythegear  2 роки тому +1

      Your absolutely right that was another thing that made it very confusing and back in the day there was many Beaumont owners that believed they were driving Pontiacs for that reason alone, thanks for sharing and watching

    • @edmundanderson657
      @edmundanderson657 7 місяців тому

      There are 60's tv commercials floating around here on the tube saying "sold at your Acadian, Pontiac, Buick dealerships".
      But I have to say I'm not Canadian nor lived at one one of the bordering states that might have picked up the commercials.
      I didn't know of these cars till the 70's and thought they were Pontiac's.

    Did any of those come with Pontiac drivetrains? I remember seeing a 57 or 58 Canadian built GMC truck with a 287 Pontiac engine. Great video , very informative and interesting!!

    • @garythegear
      @garythegear  2 роки тому

      All Beaumonts and Acadians were chevy drivetrains and this run went from 63 to 69 , there were lots of maple leaf trucks made in the 50s but off hand I don't know what the power train combinations were , thanks for the comments William and thanks for watching 👍

    • @edmundanderson657
      @edmundanderson657 7 місяців тому

      The same was true in the US. GMC only had a straight 6 but wanted to be able to sell there trucks as one up on Chevys and having more torque. If you ordered the more powerful engine you got the Pontiac. Cannot confirm but some say they came with Oldsmobile engines too.

    Great job explaining the Canadian Chevelle builds and also the Beaumont and all its little quirks. If you would allow me, can I add one thing? The production figures for 1967 Beaumont Sport Deluxe big blocks is 251 for the 325 horse cars and 200 exactly for the 350 horse cars. In the video it kind of sounded like there were 251 big block Sport Deluxes in 1967 and we want to make sure the impression people get of these cars is correct. Again, excellent job! (If you would rather not include this comment I've made just let me know and I will delete it.)

    At 1:04 the gentleman mentions that ALL Canadian built GM cars had a body-color painted firewall... I have a Canadian built 1970 Chevelle and the firewall is painted matte black, which he describes as a US built GM. Does anyone know any further info on this?

    • @garythegear
      @garythegear  Рік тому

      I can tell you for sure all Canadian Beaumonts and Acadians were definitely body color engine bays however I'm not certain about the later model 70 Chevelle this is a good question, I will personally try and find more info on this thanks Kevin

  • @DR-ro7dw
    @DR-ro7dw 2 місяці тому

    Just have to ask for confirmation. He stated that the Beaumont firewall was painted the same body color from factory. I have 2 69 Beaumonts and neither has a spec of body Color paint on the firewall. They are both the satin black.
    And the one I have owned since 1980 and was original. So maybe I misunderstood what he was saying.

    • @garythegear
      @garythegear  2 місяці тому +1

      That's a good question I will ask him for clarification, I'm thinking he painted it the body color gloss black but it wasn't originally a gloss color I will find out

    Please add, that Beaumonts typically had a ser # that begins with the number 7, which, in Canada, denotes these cars as a Canadian Pontiac. Their DNA lands in the Pontiac Division of GM of Canada.

    • @garythegear
      @garythegear  Рік тому

      I'm with ya on the serial number part but Beaumonts were there own brand and not a division of pontiac

    • @gmpurist6745
      @gmpurist6745 Рік тому

      One can see that the Beaumont Brand is stand alone, but, it cannot be denied or hidden when one simple fact remains, the Ser # beginning with #7 is clearly, without argument, and the registy offices know that simple #7 as the Canadian Pontiac Division. I've personally owned 4 Beaumonts, 2, 1969s and 2 1968s, and that was the fact with each of those.

    • @garythegear
      @garythegear  Рік тому

      The way I understand it is the first didget 7 signifies Beaumont of Canada and serial number starting with 2 signifies Pontiac division, not saying your wrong I just can't find any information that the first didget number 7 represents Beaumont being a division of Pontiac everything I can find on this States Beaumont of Canada?

    • @gmpurist6745
      @gmpurist6745 Рік тому +1

      GM of Canada....Pontiac Division...utilized the #7...GM USA used #2 ...a distinct difference across the northern border. Canadian Pontiacs overall were different then their American Pontiacs...Chev engines and Impala interiors in the Big Pontiacs...Simply stated...GM of Canada...identified the Canadian built cars with #7...research has shown this to be true...Don not confuse the US and Canadian GM Pontiacs
