- Father Joseph Gleason made the choice to put his faith above today's secular ideas and left America to raise his children in Russia, which he feels offers one of the last few bastions of Christianity on the planet. Just 30 years ago Russia had official state atheism, now the national "enigma wrapped in a mystery" is arguably the most religious nation in Europe. Did Father Gleason make the right choice and what was it like bringing 8 kids and a wife to a country where not one person spoke the native language?
This type of man and his family are a benefit to our country. They are most welcome.
Finding Orthodoxy was the greatest gift of my life. I left Roman Catholicism years ago and never looked back. Glory to God! ☦️

Father Joseph was my motivation to leave california and move to russia , i just moved to the south of russia, much warmer weather, similar to the weather in the north of turkey and north of greece. Im so happy in russia my soul happy. 💛 ❤

Orthodox Canadian here. I see our country is in moral shambles as well. I would be happy to be somewhere in rural Russia practicing my faith. Too many passions in the West.
Amin. 🙏☦️. I am also an Orthodox convert in the U.S. (what’s left of it). It is beyond sad because I love my heritage here and my historic blood ties to this land; my family has been here since the 1640s. Many more of our Anglo-American people will begin to emigrate to places like Russia. Hungary also has rural “Anglo villages”, as they are known, where Brits, Americans, Canadians, Aussies, etc. all live together.
But consider this:
As you well know, many of the Orthodox in Russia during the early Bolshevik days had emigrated to places in the West (namely the UK and US). During that time, there were some very holy and pious elders that believed that some of the faithful should resist emigrating and stay in their native land, for the sole purpose of suffering for Christ, for willingly allowing themselves to suffer and, for some, possibly face martyrdom. So too then should some of us right-believing Orthodox folk in the West stay here in our native lands to endure the sufferings to come in our own western lands.
Some of the more modern elders of the Church say that America will be a land of many martyrs. We would be wise to listen to what these elders said and stay here so that we might help to evangelise our lands, bringing them back home to Holy Orthodoxy.
There is a big Canadian family (parents + 8 kids) that sold their farm and moved to Russia like 2-3 weeks ago. I've been following their new channel (countryside acres). One of the recent videos introduces their Russian lawyer that works with foreigners that want to move to Russia to get away from the crazy.
Just sharing food for thought.

Less than 1.4% of Russians go to church at least once a week. in 2013 the percentage was 14%. Russians are losing their faith because the Moscow Patriarchate is trying to force them to accept Eastern Rite Putinanity as a substitute for Orthodox Christianity but Russians are too smart to accept it. Christ is the head of the Orthodox Church NOT Putin!

I’m not going to lie to you - it’s not an easy language! I also wasn’t particularly academic at language learning but by being here and putting in the effort, I managed to learn it fluently. So you just need to start 😉

I'm sure it has. I viewed it quite a few years ago, before Covid. It disappeared from UA-cam some time after, and now it has been reissued. But this is not Russia today. I've been wondering just how things are with Fr. Joseph now. He is in my prayers.

Well done. . . . I too left Australia in 2019, once they legalized same sex marriage. I knew then that the country would come under a curse. That has played out in many ways since 2019.
I came to the Philippines and it has worked out well. I won't be returning.
