Instead of cartoons all the time, i make my 5 year ol son and 10 year old daughter watch all you're videos. My hope is that the knowledge will seep into and stay in their minds for when they are older
Yeah Great 😃... They'll get the piss taken out them at school for being strange... Just give them lessons on growing dope in the loft ... they'll go far 😂
Did I just spend two hours watching Mr Sellers build a box?! That wasn’t part of my schedule! … but those were some of the most enjoyable hours of the week. Thank you for that!
You never forget a good teacher. I'm 49 years old and just starting out. You're that good teacher,Paul. Thank you. A true craftsman and selfless with your knowledge.
Very true. I’ve seen a ton of videos, there are lots of people who contribute good things, but watching Paul’s stuff is like going back to your mentor.
I'm a beginner woodworker from Argentina. I've recently found Paul Sellers, and I cannot emphazise enough how valuable and educational these videos are. Thank you for this legacy to the world. You, sir, are a treasure.
Same here. I dare to say that Mr. Sellers is my mentor. I mean, if I hadn't found his channel and blog, I probably would have given up. Because most of the woodworkers now days teach that you need this and that pricey electric power tool etc, but this man showed that you can do just about anything without those machines. Ps. if you like hand tool woodworking and you're on a budget, check out Rex Krueger.
Another excellent video. I never tire of watching you doing, and explaining, everything from start to finish with no short-cuts or edits, no noise or gimmicky graphics. At one point you apologised for checking and re-checking and being "boring" but it is never boring, it is a calming immersive experience watching your skills in practice and listening to your voice of experience. You are often imitated on UA-cam, but never bettered. You've made my day by releasing this new video.
Hi Paul, greetings from Ottawa. Just a tip for removing blood from wood that others may not know. Wipe off the blood having dampened the rag or tissue with hydrogen peroxide - work a treat :)
I bumped into him in Oxford one Saturday morning and we had a chat. He was very engaging, despite being accosted by a strange You Tube subscriber. Top man.
Paul, your legacy is secure. You have made the world a better place. Something so beautiful, described and made so simply. I need to get wifi in my shed so I can watch this as I work.
I just discovered this channel. I am so thankful, it's difficult to understand how to begin to learn something new and technical without any guidance. You provide that. So, muchas gracias!
I have been watching your videos for years and love the detail and enthusiasm you put into your work. You have inspired me to make a dovetail box, not done one since woodwork class at school, some 40 odd years ago. Will be making a set of your Dovetail Templates too. Fantastic.
Paul your teaching is so valuable and unmatched not just to a beginner like me but to any veteran. I feel honored to be able just to watch! God made a special man in you and you have definitely not kept your special gift hidden. Thank you and God bless!
Thank you so much Paul! I am right now making my 3rd box as per this lesson. First one I made for my 4 year old who loves it. Making another one for another kid and that motivates it even more when imagining the excitement on the kids face. Thank you for all the lessons again Paul!❤
Gustav Stickley used an Old World aphorism, "Lyfe So Short, The Craft So Long To Lern" for his company's motto that matches up with an old blues song my late wife, Lisa Kindred, used to sing, "If You Live Your Time will Come". And Mr. Sellers, your time has come. This "Simple Dovetailed Box" lesson has so many teachable moments in it, including some unplanned ones, that all go to show that intelligent design and careful execution ["measure Twice, cut Once"] will allow for any unexpected alterations that may be necessary along the way. "Good Show" as they say on your side of the pond and thank you.
Tells how easy making a box is, and shows a genius jig within the first 2 minutes of this video. Love it and I am curious what I will learn from the rest of this video!
The simplicity of the tools, the clarity of the instructions, and the cleanliness of the video production, these entire 2+ hours sang to my soul. Thank you.
"I know I could be boring to watch" You couldn't be more far from the truth. I'm in awe for everything thou make Mr. Sellers, even putting a sacrificial board behind your dovetail to plane flush.
Hello Paul. I follow several hand tool woodworkers and they use different ways to make dovetail joints. They are all excellent woodworkers, I am sure you know them all, and their methods all have their advantages and sometimes flaws. But when I see how you easily create the perfect dovetail joint, I can only conclude one thing: you are simply the best! The knife wall is one of my favorite things I learned from you. Greetings from Flanders (Yes, there are also young guys aged 69 in Flanders who like to do woodworking with hand tools).
Wow Paul! When squaring I have use the corner to corner measuring and then I would double check with the square and think I’m off so I,would end up chasing square, adjusting back and forth trying to get them to agree….ARRRGGGG! No more of that, thanks to you!!!
Totally agree with all the comments below. I've watched Paul for years and it is a joy to see a master craftsman doing his thing... an absolute joy. :-)
When I come home from a long day at the salt mine, I am greeted with the smell of fresh coffee brewing, something incredible on the stove, a huge smile from my wife, and the faint sound of Mr. Sellers working on a project echoing down the hallway from laptop speakers in my small office space. I doubt I could make heaven above much better. Thank you Mr. Sellers for ALL you do for us!.
Perhaps a simple box (not for me!), but far from just a simple video. There is so much instructional content packed into this two hours. This video is just jam packed with little gems of know how. Clear, precise, and wonderfully patient! UA-cam has stressed “shorts” for some reason, but Paul has gone “against the grain” and given us so much more value with this project. Worth watching every second! Thank you, Paul!
An interesting thing that's less visible in today's digital video age is how the true masters have total control over the process. Their workflow is so smooth and seamless that they can make what is effectively a livestream VOD feel like a highly edited and produced video.
Genuine highly skilled craftsman, these skills you are all lucky to be able to learn as not every craftsman can be bothered to show to others, watch and learn.
In my workshop cutting a piece of wood with a handsaw, using techniques I learned from your videos, while listening to this video. I'm just fixing up a workspace for my wife that I hope she'll enjoy. Thanks for sharing your knowledge all these years.
Mr. Sellers, I ran into the wrong grain direction on the dovetail clean up recently and I am so happy I had just seen this tip on your video. I remember trying it years ago but didn't have success due to the small gap you experienced. Seeing the same problem, and your use of an additional shim, made all the difference. You could have skipped over and edited it out but when we can see you fix a problem you run into, odds are we are running into the same issues. I've said it before but I'll say it again. Thank you, Sir. You are a wonderful teacher and have made me a better woodworker. I wish you only the best.
Thanks for such an interesting and enjoyable video. I love watching your craftsmanship and learning more about woodworking techniques using hand tools.
Thank you so much for sharing your experience, tips, and plans. The education you offer is second to none. This video has changed my entire attitude about dovetails.
Only when I looked at this video I realized how many woodworking youtubers are just 'whatever works' kind of guys, and who is the real master of the craft... Thank you mr. Sellers ❤
Wonderful video. I tend to be in such a hurry to see the results of my work. These insights into your process have taught me a life lesson as much as a woodworking one. Thank you sir!
T have followed your channel since you set-up the "castle" workshop, and over the last few years you have been devoted to the house renovation. So, it's great to see you back woodworking in the public domain.
1:39:08 So the lid hinges by using two screws whose threads bite into the LID, but passthrough the walls so the shank can rotate freely. So the screw selections matters for shank length so the threads can never bite into the lid. Prolly gotta wax the shanks a touch so there is less friction over time that may cause the threads to tighten/loosen. Could also drill the holes depths a bit differently so the screw can be unscrewed soft locking the lid.
Well done Paul, fantastic to see a true craftsman producing such a beautiful piece. This was a great way of showing how it was produced from the start to finish. 👏👍
fantastic Paul, so simple yet so esthetically pleasing, I enjoy the detail with the recessed bottom - I might even try to make a couple of these for my workshop.
A wonderful presentation. I'm so glad I found your channel. As someone new to woodworking I have a simple box that I just started after watching another youtube about making a simple box joint wooden box. Turned out to be very bad and made lots of mistakes. They say "the devil is in the details" and that is so true. You are not just knowledgeable and experienced but do a great job of sharing all those little details and tricks that make all the difference. I feel that after watching this and following the steps carefully I can also make this box. Thank you.
Another fantastic video and project Paul, thank you. Makes me think that a slightly larger version would make an excellent bread bin, with the inside of the lid to be used as the cutting board if the lid is left unhinged and loose. Will (attempt to) make one this weekend.
Haven't even watched the video yet and the box looks nice and clean with a simple elegance. Can't wait to have the time to relax and join you in the build.
Paul my men, I mean this as a compliment obviously, you remind me of the great Norm Abram from New Yankee Workshop and This Old House. And I find you just as eloquent, great content right pace as well.
Thank you, Paul! An excellent tutorial on basic woorworking techniques, disguised as a discussion of making a dovetail box. I think i would like the box even more if the lid handle were made in a contrasting wood. Otherwise, impeccable, as always! Happy to have been number 1,000 to give a thumbs up!
I had actually begun making a prototype of such a box out of scraps of pine, following the two blog posts. This video comes in just at the right time, thank you very much indeed!❤
What a pleasure to watch Paul work. Of all things, I've got to ask what paper towel he uses though! I was surprised to see that used to finish. Every brand I have used in the kitchen easily sheds fibres if used on anything even slightly abrasive. (Perhaps Paul gets his wood surface so silky smooth there is nothing for the paper to catch on?!)
Joining the others to thank you for that superbe video. I love to see the full project instead of a collection of small bits. So helpfull with beginners.
I want to build this box for my grand daughter. I'm not a new wood worker but have a long way to go yet. I saw you install the remainder strips on the bottom of the box but not the strips that go above the bottom board to hold it down. Do I need to worry about glue that might get on the bottom board and prevent it from moving? How are those strip installed? Thank you. PS I made your router and it is great!
The box you see Paul make in this video is now no longer available for sale (benefits go to a local charity). Thank you to all that took part! - Team Paul

@@AA-69, wrong, once they get into the dope they become all ass. Saying this from experience.
This may be the best UA-cam comment I've ever read.
@@AA-69doubtful. They will likely make lots of excellent friends.
Hope the young lads will grow up to be better spellers than you. 🫡
Mr. Sellers is a global treasure.
Did I just spend two hours watching Mr Sellers build a box?! That wasn’t part of my schedule!
… but those were some of the most enjoyable hours of the week.
Thank you for that!
The David Attenborough of woodworking. Thank you mr sellers ❤
Attenborough is just a tv presenter and narrator.
Lovely to see someone use hand tools instead of having a machine for everything. Takes me back to watching my Dad who was a carpenter. Thank you!
You are so welcome!
What a national treasure Paul is providing this type of educational vid for free.
International treasure. We’re all sharing him.

We are so fortunate to learn from a master for free.
Made your other dovetail box and looking forward to trying this one.
Thank you for sharing.
Paul, your legacy is secure. You have made the world a better place.
Something so beautiful, described and made so simply. I need to get wifi in my shed so I can watch this as I work.

I love how precise Paul is with his descriptions, makes me a better educator as an example
I just discovered this channel. I am so thankful, it's difficult to understand how to begin to learn something new and technical without any guidance. You provide that. So, muchas gracias!

Make hundreds of them. You will become a master of them. If that box is fitted to a wall it becomes a cabinet.
