We visited Amsterdam in April 2024. Now you can use contactless debit cards for all Trains, Trams, Metro and Buses within The Netherlands. Worked pretty well even with foreign card. Plenty of people to help at barriers. Incomplete journeys can be sorted out afterwards via the website. You can only specify where you checked out not checked in. So may get charged for a fare in the wrong direction. Which for trams at least can be more expensive. There is an International Ticket office to the left cityside. Which might be useful.
Your videos are really great and informative! Playing them on a roll since I’ll be coming to Amsterdam soon. Love the editing and the short and sweet way of presenting! 👌🏻👏🏻
I used to work at the Central Station in Amsterdam, and hope to work there again soon. I know everything about the station. All the entrances and exits, tunnels, corridors, shops, everything. The westtunnel exit to the city is closed off at the moment, no problem! Just take any of the stairs up to the platform, and go to the middeltunnel where you may exit the station, to the city. No lifts in the westtunnel too? Just go to the middel or easttunnel, there you can take a lift up to the platform. If you wan't any information for your video's, do let me know!
Two of your conductors lied to me, made me catch wrong train! a man and a women. glad i never paid for both train trips, liars and not helpful. but i had last laugh I NEVER PAID TWICE! And know i was respectful and polite. stick to taxis trains are not clear at all and you won't get useful help! Not really a tourist city now, a few made you feel unwelcome, just a few nice people left.
Thank you for this video!! It’s nice to have this info before goingg to a new country for the first time. Also, do you have any video/suggestions for food souvenirs from amsterdam? I will need to get some gifts for some friends! Going to follow you on IG next ❤
@katiet477 Thank you Katie for your lovely comment here. It's really nice to hear some positive feedback on this video, and thank you for following me on IG too. Buying food souvenirs from Amsterdam is something I've struggled with previously as you don't want anything that can melt or get crushed in the suitcase. Best I could come up with were stroopwafels (you can get them in tins) and salted liquorice.
@@pocketlighthouse thank you for the quick response! Ooh i havent tried salted licorice before, thanks for the recommendation! Hope you have a good summer break 😄❤️
Thanks for your comment. Yes you do need to pay for the toilet at Centraal Station. I can't remember the exact cost off the top of my head but it's somewhere between 70 cents and a euro. You can pay with cash or card.
Hi Glick, when you come off the train at Centraal station heads towards the stairs/escalators so you can exit the platform area. You'll then see signage pointing you in the direction of the metro, which in this case is city side.
Thank you…The debit card I used at times doesn’t work when I used it yesterday..tram driver said at times machine has problem. OV chip card reloadable is more failsafe

A very comprehensive overview of the central station. Thank you so much! Do you have to pay to use public toilets in Amsterdam?

Thanks Daniella, how do I get to the Metro(M53) platform after arriving from the airport with the sprinter train? Thanks!
Hi Glick, when you come off the train at Centraal station heads towards the stairs/escalators so you can exit the platform area. You'll then see signage pointing you in the direction of the metro, which in this case is city side.
Can I use my reloadable ov chip card to go to Delft…today is my first day in Amsterdam. Any info totally appreciate
Yes with the OV chip card (anonymous or personal) - you can load money on it and travel throughout the country.
