      As an NHS nurse of 16 years i found “clapping” for the NHS incredibly patronising. Seeing people clapping away like seals every Thursday was the cringiest thing i’ve ever seen. I actively asked people to stop doing it. I just went to work…as i have done every day. Soon as the Pandemic was over nurses became public enemy number 1 as soon as we asked for a pay rise and ended up having to strike for the first time in 100 years to get a paltry 5% which was wiped out by inflation. Most people clapped because it made them look like nice people…

    Has anyone ever seen a young conservative? There's something profoundly peculiar about them. Of course, they're ex-private school kids, but a very particular subset. What normal young person would want to be associated with that? I feel (I hope) the Tories have a big problem on their hands here. May the next generation care about the environment and fairness, and isn't someone who knows the price of everything but the value of absolutely nothing.

    The polls saying that the Labour party was sure to win the GE, week after week, probably caused some left wing voters to treat the GE like a local election, and they voted for greens, liberal democrats or some other left wing party other than Labour. Also I think a very small subset of previous Labour voters went over to vote for Reform. It does look like the Tory party are in an existential crises. Though it's too hard to say at the moment, what will happen to the Tory party.

Although apathy, switching to Greens, etc was obviously a factor, many of those who said that they would vote Labour early on in the campaign switched, tactically, to the Lib Dems. Yes, immigrants are usually younger than the native population.
    According to pollsters, 2/3rds of Labours vote is coming from immigrants. This matches the constituencies where Labour does well, and explains Labour MPs continued focus on immigrants in their constituencies. Nevertheless, Labour's vote FELL in 2024.

    The danger for the Conservatives, is arguably the Liberal Democrat’s more than Labour. The one nation electorate didn’t like the dialling back of net zero plans, to keep the extreme right inline and voted Liberal Democrat, because their proposals are more inline with their concerns and no way would they vote labour. Unless the Conservatives can stop the circular firing squad and move back towards the centre, they will continue to have major issues.

    Young people aren't the driving force of the electorate. The Tories coming back to government will depend on how Labour does, if the Liberal vote holds up, how well they do in the polls and if they're able to capture the support of Reform voters. If there's a perfect storm of these events happening then the Conservatives can back in quite quickly. It won't happen but the reality is that the Conservative party are more successful at winning elections than any other party in the history of human civilization apart from maybe the Republican party in the United States, the National Party in New Zealand and the Liberal National Coaliton in Australia.

    • @JohnSmall314
      @JohnSmall314 24 дні тому +2

      " Net zero is self harming "
      Climate change is causing erratic weather which cuts crop yields leading to higher food prices. Example, the price of olive oil has rocketed because the yield has fallen due to hot weather, which also helps diseases that infect olive trees. There are plenty of other examples of extreme weather due to climate change cutting crop yields.
      "countries with cheap food also have high carbon emissions"
      They have cheap food not because they have high carbon emissions, they have cheap food because land prices are low, and land prices are low because they don't have rich landowners extracting rents.
      Most of the agricultural land in the UK is owned by old money aristocrats and foreign hedge funds who charge farmers high rents, so farmers have to sell their produce for high prices.
      Reform is very explicit in their manifesto that they work for the interests of old money aristocrats and foreign hedge funds. If you read beyond the slogan "stop immigration", you'll see that they want to cut taxes for rich people, remove inheritance tax, which only benefits rich people, and trash the economy putting up mortgage rates for ordinary people.
      In any case the price of non-fossil fuel energy is coming down so fast that in many parts of the world it's already cheaper than fossil fuel energy.
      If the UK doesn't make the transition to net zero we'll be left behind other countries, and still depend on dodgy countries for energy. There is no energy security if we have to import oil, gas and coal from countries that may choose not to be friendly anymore.
      Wind is free and we have plenty of it. Let's use it.

The tactical voting was the main cause for smaller labour numbers, and it absolutely worked. It's really quite simple. 4 million+ voted Reform because they want a party who will DELIVER on traditional centre right policies, such as taxation and controlling immigration. The Tories say they will do x and don't do x. That is what gets punished. Voters want a party they trust will carry out the policies. So it's not a split of centre-right ideology. It's a criticism of that ideology not being put into practise. The same as Brexit not being fully implemented because too many didn't want it in the first place and did not respect the vote. It's just a case of people wanting the ideology to be put into effect. The Tories showed they only gave lip service to this ideology so they lost votes. If the Conservatives go more to the left that is the final nail in the coffin.

    • @yesand5536
      @yesand5536 24 дні тому +2

      The funny thing is though, that in reality, immigration will not be cut. Have you noticed worldwide trends and the effects of climate change? In 10 years+ immigration will be massive, and as much as some people keep worrying about different looking people who aren't from 'around here', immigration is what will propel some economies. And the world doesn't give a fig if the UK can't handle this truth. They will benefit from immigraiton (high or low skilled labour). Very few large businesses are anti-immigration, and since business is what the Tories are all about (capitalism), then if they move away from being business-centric towards those who have no clue how the world works, they will castigate themselves to that world. It's a very small one.
      Anyway, who likes to talk to people who are anti-innovation?

    • @AleaIactaEst2009
      @AleaIactaEst2009 24 дні тому

      @@yesand5536 The UK has always accepted immigration, it is not the case of people not wanting immigration or "the UK cannot handle" a truth. The question is controlled immigration. Any nation state should be able to set their own target on what it considers to be a reasonable number, in which sectors, at any given time, without needing the rest of "the world to give a fig". If the numbers are too high at a time when the infrastructure cannot support it then it is the role of government to intervene.
      You can debate the issue but not reduce the opposing argument to "people who aren't from round here" or "who wants to talk to people who think differently to me" or equate this idea with a lack of innovation. Individual businesses' concern is primarily about themself, their interest is solely in their individual profit, not the overall health of the state at a larger level. That is the role of government. Nor is a policy of controlled reduced numbers inherently anti-business. Reform did get 4+ million votes so you have to reflect this in your argument. Are you suggesting that should all be reduced to racism or the like? That sounds very simplistic. That is your prerogative, but I think you would be wrong to do so. The Tories were just heavily defeated. Heavily. My suggestion is as to a primary reason why.
