How come? What disaster could unfold in two months? Fundamentals of economics, not hearsay. There was no disaster at all. While she was a very unsavoury character with no backbone under her skin and turn-coating for every single flag under which she served, there was NIL - ZILCH - ZERO net effect of her policies. This is simply an ignorant conclusion from those spreading the word, since policies to have a net effect there should be an economic cycle or significant turns in major value chains. The drop of the GBP against the USD was purely speculative, while the GBP to EUR FX showed a minor correction, with the FX now under the 'catastrophic' change during the very short tenure of Liz Truss. Europe remains the main trading partner for the UK, and the wet dreams of the BREXIT advocates represent the materialization of a disastrous move.
Excellent analysis and presentation. That Liz Truss should rise through the Conservative Party to achieve highest office says much about the Party since 2,010.
If the Queen hadn’t died, and there wasn’t a 10 day pause with no business, wouldn’t the chaotic chain of events that occurred have been brought forward, and her time at no. 10 have been even shorter?
Questionable, She could have been the 14 day PM but there's a school of thought that the events surrounding the queens death and level of attention ministers were paying to policy caused the instability that pushed the government over the edge and that they could have survived if Britain wasn't in a state of such massive shock already.
@@IazzaboyceWith your ability to completely misunderstand the point that badly, you could have easily been Liz truss' chief advisor. Maybe even chief policy maker.
Will always remain to me my fav and most inspiring PM ever.... how you ask? Because she proves you can be a poor communicator yet get the highest job ever!
She may well have been the only person in history who actually believed in trickle-down economics. I mean, lots of people pay lip-service to the idea, but they don’t actually think it works. It´s just an excuse to give tax-cuts to their rich friends. But she seemed to genuinely believe in it.
James Heale's closing words are: "She'll be a voice in the next Parliament. Whether or not she will be listened to is the key question". What a terrifying thought.
Brilliant episode. Incredible that our country - any democratic country for that matter - could possibly manage to install such a completely inept leader. The tragedy is that the seeds for the disaster were firmly sowed in another democratic experiment. The Brexit vote and subsequent hardline agreement has tied our hands so firmly that people like Truss and her cronies became a real option for the Conservative party because as far as they are concerned there is no other option for growth. The truth is that until we re-visit our whole relationship with Europe we have absolutely no prospect for a healthy economy and the UK will slowly grind to a halt..
Most insane part is that she came out of it unscathed and is reasonably wealthy today cause she was a good girl doing what the think tanks on Tufton street wanted... And the fact that many tories want to do the same thing she did again believing it will work this time...
There are absolutely no repercussions for those who have power and status; whereas if someone on a minimum wage had caused even 25% of the damage she did they would be sacked.
This woman….well, look into Truss’s eyes and compare them with Thatcher’s. Truss is vacant, vacuous and unfocused. Thatcher, for all her many faults, had a determined, clear and purposeful agenda. Truss did, however, as all Tories do, think she ruled by right. She had no chance of becoming a good PM. In her dealings with the oppositions front bench we saw her true nature, arrogant, dismissive and rude. Why would we think she wouldn’t be like that with us? All that mattered to her was making a splash. Well, she certainly did that.
Between Her, Boris, May & Cameron the reputation of the Tory party for fiscal compliance has been destroyed. It's like a list of every type of managerial and human failure. Scrap this party.

I was a London taxi drive for 55 years andI become an expert on knowing what to expect from the majority of the public just within the first few minuets of contact it was somthing you realy had to learn to survive especially doing night work so after Lis Truss came up for prime minister I could not believe 😮 that it was true as not becouse she was a woman but after listening and watching her I was absolutely convinced she was a catastrophe waiting to happen but I did not think it would be that quick
“She’ll be in the next Parliament” aged well…
Like her premiership.
Great episode, we all need to remember the disaster that was Truss’s premiership. We will be paying the price for years.
What nonsense
I hope someone will make this into a mini series...I found your story fascinating and I am just a colonial from Canada...
Me too and I am living in Holland.
Excellent analysis and presentation. That Liz Truss should rise through the Conservative Party to achieve highest office says much about the Party since 2,010.
“At last. The first true Tory budget”.
Result: f’kin disaster!
Oh well hire a west african get west african results 😐
Do not vote tory ever!
My Labour councilors(3) are so bad/corrupt, that I tory vote in protest. I vote Corbyn every time.
I’d agree with that.
She turned out to be what she always appeared to be, unimpressive!
The lettuce, the woman who boasted of selling tea - Yorkshire tea - to China.
Ahh yes, the great tea plantations of Wakefield.😂
Yorkshire Tea is a UK product made in Harrogate, Yorkshire, England, UK from tea leaves imported from Africa and India 'nowt' to do with 'China'!
@@IazzaboyceWith your ability to completely misunderstand the point that badly, you could have easily been Liz truss' chief advisor. Maybe even chief policy maker.
@@ForeverNeverwhere1 Well, since you're so clever - why don't you explain the point? I'll put the kettle on...
Wakefield is Rhubarb not Yorkshire tea - that comes from Harrogate!

Excellent job, James Heale!
Excellent overview! As an American, it was very engaging and interesting!!
As a Brit, it was vastly embarrassing.
And excruciatingly funny!
@@RyanKeane9 You arent the best or brightest that we have to offer though.
If The Dunning-Kruger Effect was ever designed to describe anyone, it was designed to describe Liz Truss.
Thanks for doing this episode, appreciated.
She caused complete chaos for the short period she was in office.
She did transform Britain. Wish we never heard of her 😱
It's a blessing in disguise. Imagine having her as PM for 2 years!
'she will be in the next parliament'
lol
I do miss the Lettuce images.... feeling nostalgic.
Will always remain to me my fav and most inspiring PM ever.... how you ask? Because she proves you can be a poor communicator yet get the highest job ever!
Certifiable!!!
Promoted sooooooo far beyond her ability.
Loved every minute of this, fantastic content
I believe it was Seneca who once said: "Liz Truss is a complete tool"
I always thought that was a Rosencrantz quote.
@ArtyFactual_Intelligence many many people have said the same thing
She came, she saw, she fu*ked it up
A sad reflection on those who voted for her
This woman….well, look into Truss’s eyes and compare them with Thatcher’s.
Very well done, thank you.
She’ll be in the next Parliament
Err…awkward
Between Her, Boris, May & Cameron the reputation of the Tory party for fiscal compliance has been destroyed. It's like a list of every type of managerial and human failure. Scrap this party.
Remember, initially Sunak LOST to the Truss woman! What does this tell you about Sunak????
not so much about Sunak, rather it speaks volumes about the Tory party.
It tells me he wasnt white enough. Easy as that. Racism.
A lot of torys blamed Rishi for Boris' downfall.
@@rogerphelps9939 Well she tried to lower your taxes and energy bills, but the currency speculators that work for the WEF didnt like it so they shorted the pound to get rid of her, and YOU thanked them for it. Now you pay twice as much for energy and food under Sunak, and he just passed a bill to force you to spend money on a new boiler or go to prison. Happy now?
You being oblivious to whats being done to you speaks volumes about you.
Dont talk such utter nonsense.
Someone needs to pay for energy
Someone needs to pay for government expenses
Nobody paying is simple not an answer.
UK was simple not the only country paying higher energy price s last year .
49 days of shame,,,Rishi continues too shame uk will we ever get rid of this government???
She was a total disaster for this country, costing us 10s of £billions, but she will be OK, due to her Ex PM expenses. She has enormous self confidence, unfortunately for us this is totally misplaced. If she had any honour, she would go quietly and say nothing. But she hasn’t got the brains, or the honour to do that. I remember seeing that vacant look on her face as she struggled to find her way out of a room she had walked into just 20 minutes before. If it was up to me, I would prosecute her for treason
Excellent. Thank you.
What gets me is that practically everybody was saying she would be a disaster and yet they made her pm anyway.
Utterly bizarre and clearly the moment the wheels finally fell off the Tory clown car .
It’s disgraceful that she’s not behind bars.
This was a very interesting summary of the disastrous Truss/Kwarteng regime. But it wasn't just the policies or comms that caused its rapid demise, but the extremist economic ideology that they tried to impose on the country. By not delving into that, and concentrating only on events, this summary is badly incomplete.
Yeah, no mention of Tuftin Street at all, the source of that ideology
In her entire working life thus far has she ever vacated a post leaving the company/departent in a better position than it was when she started? Does anyone have an example?
No. She’s a loser. But has somehow managed to make herself a fortune while losing.
As Foreign Secretary she didn't know where Moldova was!
As foreign secretary she did nothing useful
A prifoundly weird and cringey creature.
No shame no apologies
Chocolate tpot
She never had the character that a priminister should have she was lame and dangerous. I find it amazing she still has the face to be in politics 😂
I just love your style, ambush them with politeness!😅
is the times not ashamed for cheerleading the conservatives for so much of the last 13 years?
You would’ve thought there would be just a teeny bit of shame and self reflection for “the newspaper of note”. Not from this bunch of selfish clowns though.
They are cheerleading for the WEF these days, of any party.
Post Office would give her a job, and promote her.
This podcast is 1/2016th the length of her career at number 10.
When mathematical reality crushes brexiteer Tory dreams! 🤣
"She will be in the next pariiament"-that did not age well.
My old man lives in her constituency and is one of her voters.
Semi literate, council house dwelling, working class, true blue, Sun reading Thatcher fan.
Didn't have a clue why I was so upset last year watching how the Tory hustings was going down.
I don't suppose he noticed her premiership because The Sun was too busy attacking the unions whilst she and her crew were trashing the place.
I think he's still oblivious now (he is getting on a bit).
He'll vote for her blue rosette again.
Oblivious.
Thanks dad.
And the rest of you.
If any of my family or friends were Tory voters I would have no problem disowning them.

How can someone described as “not the most natural communicator” get anywhere near the top of politics? Surely that’s the most basic skill of someone who needs to earn votes and win the favour of fellow politicians. Blows my mind how a succession of not all that bright fools connive their way to the top.
Perhaps the Yes Minister episode "Party Games" might give a clue...?
The person with a ' All the lights are on but no one is home ' look on her face.
And she still thinks she is competent and viable as an MP.
What a disaster she was. Totally incompetent.

Intimidating lettuce leads to security issue 😅
Yes you came into office at a very chaotic time and managed to make it so much worse!!!🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
I knew she was going to be terrible and not last that long but didn’t think she would be gone by October. She refused to listen to so many people who told her the mini budget plans were a disaster.
This is not the story. The story you SHOULD be talking about is that kamikaze kuartang has been on retainer with Crispín Odey his whole political career. No wonder he was having Champagne with bankers the day after he shafted our currency and CO shorted it making multiple millions on the trade.
