That pushrod moment was a perfect sign of experience. Once you've done something like that a bunch of times, you know when something "just doesn't feel right."
I would have missed it myself. Not a problem I've had.
theres a big difference between knowing that something doesn't feel right, and knowing why it doesnt feel right tho. thats the true sign of experience.
@@xymaryai8283 he did know why though, cause he diagnosed the issue almost immediately following his discovery that "something doesn't feel right."
Yeah, I was rooting for him to notice that.
That was a dirty removal to be honest. Lol
Don't ford's run off a little gear attached to the fuel pump? That seems easier than a rod sticking out from the pump that can just fall off? Why design a pushrod that can just fall off?
I think Aaron earned himself a job at donut, he fit right with y’all. Could easily see him being apart of the channel!
yes indeed
For sure
i agree!
I think no lol
Maybe but he's a good mechanic so I think I would prefer him working on people's cars.
I am 23, i have worked in and out of despicable shops since i was 15 grunting my way up in order to learn what i needed to make a Career for myself. This channel provides all the information i quite literally had to fight (hand to hand) to learn. No other yt channel can say that they influenced entire careers for young adults across the entire country and to say that is invaluable would be a complete understatement to what this team does for aspiring mechanics. Im gonna go ahead and say thank you on the behalf of everyone for everything this channel has done.
Good on you mate, sounds like you're doing well. I'm 22 myself and I've been working as a mechanics apprentice for a few months, real rough industry but I love it so far. I figured out pretty quick a good way to earn some points with the older blokes is to volunteer to do the bits of the job that are uncomfortable, annoying, painful or just gross. If you've got any tips for someone new to the industry I'd appreciate it.
Same

That's just stupid.
Love this show. I've been a mechanic for 15 plus years, and I feel like regardless of skill set; diagnosing something with a crew of people watching has to be super difficult.
Especially under pressure, I've seen people forget what their name is when you put a camera on them. Not to mention with the clock ticking.
Choose me next
Agreed I’m a professional mechanic too and there’s nothing worse than trying to fix something with a bunch of people watching your every move
How can I start building my resume for this? I’ve always had interest n tried to apply for entry level jobs … but I got no background in the trade, but learn super fast.. is school my best bet to help get an apprenticeship?
Exactly, I loved working alone in my bays but hated when people would gather around me while I was working.
This is a useful series to help you learn how to diagnose different issues. Thanks Donut!
It's also great for this guy because he will know his truck thoroughly. Already have had to take stuff apart and look through it so he knows already what the condition of most of it is and also how to get in certain places. Etc. Cool for sure
There’s a lot more to diagnosing then what’s in this video, you should check out Diagnose Dan to find some more modern day problems and how he finds them

Yes, agreed. He's pretty knowledgeable in that field, minus the battery diagnosis.
@port nut I mean yeah he probably could have but that’s kinda not the spirit of the contest is it?
@@areminderofwhatweare The rules only list what you can't do or must do......everything else is fair game. I would have wired the hei directly to the battery and jumped the starter with a screwdriver. This would have been a very easy challenge, but then again I own a 79 C20 that I have done EVERYTHING to, including rewiring all of it, replacing all the fuel lines for the dual tank setup, installed a gearvendors od, upgraded the engine to a 406 sbc with a forged crank and aluminum top end, electric locks and windows, autometer pro comp gauges, etc.
@@CGT80 sure but like, the rules of basketball are get the ball in the net, if I perch on top of the backboard like a fleshy gargoyle with a big sack of balls (or a big ballsack, take your pick) throwing balls into the net I’m technically getting them in but I’m not really playing the game of basketball am I?
@@areminderofwhatweare I don't watch sports and have zero interest in playing basketball, but if it isn't against the rules, go for it. Do basketball teams not pass the ball to a person waiting in a good location to easily get the ball in the net? I would bet the way the game is started would prevent you from doing what you described if you were a single player. If players on a team don't do that, then it is either not possible or practical or against rules....there are plenty of people out there just to win. I do watch Cleetus McFarland (for the mechanics, story, and characters/people, not really the racing) where they do what they can to win races and they have run their car with no coolant on a hurt engine and gambled further damaging it to win the race or set a new record. It depends on the players' goals. I compete in shooting competitions where I have to decide how I want to tackle a course of fire and there are sometimes shortcuts you can use that do not break the rules but require creative thinking or planning. Each course will have directions and /or requirements that vary and a big part of the game is for each shooter to decide what order and method to use to get the hits as fast as possible to have the fastest time.
I like how they just assist when the time is running out... Loving this series

They'd of gave him the car, if they didn't they'd of lost half their subs...like me I'd of been pissed, I was already mad about the pushrod, that was underhanded and you had to almost be a master mechanic to spot it or done a boat load of fuel pumps
@@breakingames7772 I have to agree with you Aaron put in the work, and showed his talent. If he would have left carless a lot of people would have been upset.
@@edd2184 I would think opposite, this entire series is so fun cause there is a consequence causing suspense, if you remove all negative outcomes from it it'll become boring to watch since you know they're getting a car no matter what removing all sense of suspense.
@@breakingames7772 the whole point of the show is you either fix it and keep the car or you don’t. They don’t say anywhere that they are gonna make it easy for the people selected. I don’t see any reason to get mad about it, just watch the show and be entertained. Clearly they are picking people that are suited for the cars they make them work on.
wow dude spoiler alert geez
Not sure how long you can keep this show going as it seems super high budget, but I gotta say it’s one of my favorites! Love it Donut keep it up
They likely aren't buying the cars at full price. I'm sure there's something that's been worked out behind the scenes. Or I'm totally wrong
This ain’t high budget, they have cranked out a bunch recently. They can write these cars off as business expenses, I’d bet. High level sponsorships help.
@@RussiaDaily oh yea, that too. Tax stuff
All those cars they bought are "dirt cheap" and it usually priced at less than 5000 dollars to give to their loyal subscribers, not just wannabe subscribers.
Aaron was shown alot in High and Low series, thats why he had lots of knowledge about cars since he is one who worked behind the scenes with those boys especially on 350Z episodes, those cars are hard to tune due tech complexity compared to old Z series which is simpler and less tech.
These giant old 8' bed Chevys are literally EVERYWHERE in Georgia. Not show trucks but either DDs, projects, or rust ornaments. Grab a roller for less than a grand if you look around.
This really helped me help my mans start his car! Keep being great Donut 🙏🏽
I just discovered this channel. Fantastic video! I liked how they sabotaged that ground. Ground wires can really screw you over. Even if they APPEAR to be alright, check them. One way to test a new tech on basic ground testing that I always did to my apprentices, was to wrap tape around the ground post on the battery and have them tell me why the car won't start. To really get them trying to think and not just assume stuff.
“I mostly work on Fords” proceeds to suck on a fuel line. Love this guy. Lol
Haha he drank some Chevy blood and hes turning into a Chevy boy soon

Aron and donuts relationship brought a smile to my face
I love this series, it’s an entertaining way to teach diagnostic skills, a skill that a lot of newcomers to the hobby lack!
definitely! Many newcomers aren't shown a good process of diag, I use to watch newer techs bounce around all over the place skipping the little stuff, going straight to the worst possibly scenario! I learned real fast about the term KISS Keep It Simple Stupid. All new techs need to be taught that.

For that fuel rod, take some grease and put it on both ends. It helps lube the fuel pump and the grease will hold it in place when you push it into the block so it doesn't fall down
