    Hi Feng, I just want to add to the many other comments from people who have thanked you for your time and kindness in making all these great tutorials. I found them less than a month ago, and have already watched all of them in order. (I'm commenting on this one cos it's my favourite!) I am from the UK and have studied Architecture, but my real ambition is to get into set design and I'm only just starting out. You've really inspired me to go and strive for my dreams - so many many thanks! :-)

    When establishing the initial jigsaw collage that is the background, I wish I knew more about the effects you used when altering the hues and contrast of the underlying image... I've never messed with pure effects layers too much but I guess it makes a huge difference when doing a base like that.

    a tablet will make drawing way easier than a mouse, the top brand for digital art tablets is Wacom, even there lowest range model the Bamboo tablets are very good. The size of your tablet will not effect your drawing, but a larger tablet will make extended drawing easier on your wrist.

    Your most helpful tutorial yet. I loved how you clearly defined a non finished vs. a 6 hours later finished painting. After you res up and start adding that final level of detail are you zooming in or staying zoomed out? I second the question if you are toggling opacities or keeping your brush at say 60% and selecting different colors that are being made in the painting.

  • @muddee1244
    @muddee1244 11 років тому

    resolution is probably why. If you're working on an image with 100dpi, it'll look more pixelated when working up close compared to working on an image at 300dpi. I wouldn't worry too much about starting an image off at 300dpi since it'll be started off with very loose colors and shapes and not details. Once you start getting to the details, bump the image res to 300dpi. It might slow your comp down a little bit but that should work.

    I must have missed that video, thank you for clarifying :). Also I was simply interested in the brush, not because I think it would look better but to try and imitate the style in the video. I know he wants me to make my own style, but I think imitation is also an important skill in art.

    How do you add brush strokes on top of painting, such as shadow and highlights? Do you create a layer on top, paint upon it and then merge it down?

  • @Fengdesigns

    I find working in digital to be much better for your eyes. Your eyes and a camera works pretty much the same. Imagine zooming in and out, focusing back and forth with a camera for 10+ hours a day. Eventually it'll break....just like your vision. However, in digital, you just need a constant focus. If you want to see something better, just zoom in. Your iris/lens is pretty much relaxed the whole time (at least for me).
    I can works for hours w/out a break in digital.

    I don't have any experience with oil since it's not a medium used in the Industrial Design process. I took an elective class on it way back at Art Center and got a C+ in the class! lol. My process is more similar to gouache, which is a ID medium and extremely similar to PS's default brush.
    I love traditional oil paintings btw.

    Cintiqs are nice and I do know a few professionals who use it (I own one as well, but it's in storage). Personally, I don't like having my hands blocking the image and also having to look down (hurts you neck verses looking straight). The glass thickness is also an issue for me. But at the end of the day, use whatever is comfortable. I've been using Wacom tablets since the mid-90s, so I'm just too used to them.

    @werderfan2012 anything you can't shoot yourself you can paint. Also there are sets of photos you can purchase online or in DVD form. Some are very economical, depending on use. Search around for a cheap deal on stock collections. When you pay for one of those sets you purchase certain usage rights with them, make sure you know the terms and limitations so you don't get into trouble. Good luck!
