Tsukiji Fish Market in Tokyo is a must-see stop on any visit to the city. This place is raw and real! A city within a city that has its own unique culture. From the queue for the Tuna Auction at 03:00 to a tour of the inner and outer market for breakfast, we'll explore Tsukiji and learn a little more about maguro, knives and the working culture of the world's largest fish market before it moves to Toyosu in late 2016. #tsukiji #tokyo #fish #market #100tokyo #cooljapan #onlyinjapan #tunaauction #sushi #breakfast #cheap #isjapancool #toyosu
Definitely won't be visiting there after seeing that you have to wait at 3am and it's limited for first 100 people. Almost stupid to visit those place and eat tuna that is getting less every year.
Thank you for being the first of the more popular videos to actually show what a normal visitor's experience will be like. I'm going to be staying in Tsukiji in a month and really wanted to see what the experience was like. Great video.
Really loving this channel. It's clear you guys put in alot of effort for each vid. I especially love when you interact with the people around you (my favorite episode so far was when you made okonomoyaki with the chef chatting with you throughout). Definitely subscribing!
This is what i like about your videos. They are comprehensive and thorough. The phase timing of the videos is relaxing. And a touch of jokes make them fun to watch. Japan tourism board should give you credits :)
Another amazing video. I really like the added effects you've been putting into your videos recently. I don't know if it's because I've recently watched the anime High School of the Dead again, but the first couple minutes at the fish market seemed eerie. Don't stop what you're doing!!!! And as always I'm looking forward to your next installment.
Cory Agra Thanks! hehe~it's fun to edit the show too. Appreciate the encouragement! High School of the Dead is a wicked anime!! Got an episode planned for martial arts and spochan planned. Gonna be awesome to film!! Appreciate the comment. -John
Thanks for uploading Another great informative great video . Keep up the great work Sir you have the great attitude for this kind of work . Loving it every single second of it thanks n blessings
When I went in 2005, we just walked in at like 5am for the auction, there was maybe less than 30 tourist there, mostly foreigners. This was in May, and not a winter month either. I don't know if they made that place more tourist friendly, but you really had to pay attention, that place could be dangerous.
Wow! I just took the night train from Tokyo to Izumo, Matsue and Yonago on the Sea of Japan. If you have a train pass, it's no extra cost to sleep in a sort of bed, the last sailer sleeper in Japan. That show's coming next!! There are SO MANY fantastic places to go to!! Let me know how you're trip goes. Write me on the show's Facebook page! facebook.com/onlyinjapantv -John
John San your videos are so amazing. I think I've done with all the videos. It feels like I'm there with you experiencing everything. All the videos are just worth a watch. So interesting! Keep making more and more videos.
Amazing video! Are you just a UA-camr?? You should be a NHK producer!! Your works are very professional and really educational. Thank you so much. I can't wait for next ''Wasabi'' adventure.
Vreede Anna Thank you! I was a regular reporter on NHK World's Tokyo Eye program but have no problem with being a "UA-camr" and part of the internet broadcast revolution. Anyway, this show is part of a TV show in California and Singapore and maybe other places too -- so we get some on air time :) Wasabi Farm was so much fun! Can't wait to show that one. -John
Thx for all videos from Japan..i always want go to Japan even though i'm asian but still don't have opportunity..love all your videos, i will continue support your video..
l lawliet Thank you very much! I really REALLY appreciate your support! When you have the chance to come to Japan, I know you're going have a great time. Japan is truly a fascinating place! -John
Glad to hear that, *****! Every episode has it's challenge and to be honest, this one was really hard! Glad it turned out okay and kind of fun in the end :) -John
Heaven! I used to live (as a child), near Billingsgate Fish Market in London and remember the fast activity and the various aromas. Now live in a remote are of West Cork, Republic of Ireland where the nearest neighbour is about 2 miles away - such a contrast :)
keyup2626 Hey Phil! Thank you so much for the comment. Glad you're enjoying them over there across the Pacific in Canada! I'll keep 'em rolling out if everyone keeps on watching :D -John
Eszra It will be much more organized and of course bigger! The world appetite for sushi has only grown but the space for the market has not. Hopefully it's not too touristy because one of the attractions of Tsukiji is that it is all business and very authentic -- but I cannot wait to do a follow up report on the new place in 2 years! Thanks for the comment! -John
Neutron 04 It was new for me, too! I hadn't been to Tsukiji after 18 years living in Japan. Great research and experience for me -- fantastic to share it! Thanks for watching! -John
Glambino Did you make it a plate of maguro sushi? hehe :D THANK YOU so much for nice compliment. Much more adventure and so much more exploring to do!! Gonna be a great year. -John
extremeclimax It's great you liked it! This is our 27th video, but other ones are really good as well! Please be sure to check them out as well! ;) -WAORYU staff
asshhhhllleeeyyy143 So glad you liked it! This was one of the hardest to edit because I wasn't sure where it was going ... was it a guide? An experience? In the end, I just wanted to make it fun and let others decide what they see in it -- because at Tsukiji, there are so many options and places to wander, everyone has their own experience. Glad you enjoyed! Thank you for watching and commenting. -John
WAORYU ONLYinJAPAN You definitely succeeded with whatever you attempted to do! I felt like I was part of that trip (minus the yummy food eating huhu) and it was a nice experience watching it and walking through it with you guys! I also want to mention how the video was actually really comprehensive despite not being more than 15 minutes long. I am definitely going to watch out for more videos like this and more videos in general from you. :) Thank you for taking time to reply to my comment by the way, it was a nice surprise since I've been subscribed for a while now.
Robert Mckinney I'm glad you watched past that episode and really am happy to hear you're enjoying the whole series. I can't think you enough for watching the show. By the way, I've another food challenge coming up and I intend to finish it this time!! -John
god this takes me back 2 months ago when i was there! cant wait to go back and do it all again, best sushi ever at the restaurants across the road from the market! recommend it to anyone who goes to japan!
Harrison Jenkins Visiting Tsukiji is a real experience! Glad you enjoyed it :) and yes, fantastic sushi EVERYWHERE around the market. I mean, all the seafood is only from a few hundred meters away from the first point of sale!
CutieChik99 Thanks for watching! Yeah, but even after we know how it works, it's still so hard to know what they are saying with that speed! ;) -WAORYU staff
We tried to get into the auction today (2016-09-15), here are some learnings: - these days the registration starts at 2:00am - 120 people get in - the group was full at 2:45am, we got there at 3:20am :( This might be just today, but consider checking it before. My guess is, that since the time the video was shot, the process changed.
At first I thought Japan was a boring and smog filled country but after watching some only in Japan videos it really makes me want to live in Japan and one of my favourite things about Japan is the vending machines 😃
Thanks Senan Cowap for watching! It has already been quite a while since that vending machine episode #03 ua-cam.com/video/ZZmUuRG87sU/v-deo.html, but it has evolved so much since then! - WAORYU staff
Fantastic video! Was there recently on March 11 but the whole market was closed (obvious?) - love to see a follow up on places like Sushi Dai and its famous lineups.
***** Great to hear from you! Those lines for the inner market shops were insane! I can't recommend going to those because the ingredients at the outer market shops come from the same place without the lines. Sushi chefs all around the city get the same fish. Sushi Dai is good sushi but it's not spectacular -- it's just location, location, location. Sushi Zanmai which is a local chain with shops all over the place is just as good > www.kiyomura.co.jp/shops/search/ without the lines, of course. I had video on the shops but decided to let people decide themselves if they want to go there and wait out the lines for sushi, I didn't weigh in on that because it took me off topic. I'll make a show specifically on sushi later this year. Yum yum!! Thanks for watching! -John
Hi John, thanks so much for the insightful and also fun videos! We decided to give Sushi Dai a miss (went back on March 12) too but next time will definitely go for Zanmai. Looking forward to go visit again and in the mean time looking forward to your new videos!
NyuRyuzaki I tried to do two years ago but I learned that the maid cafes were losing popularity. A chain ( maidreamin.com/en ) has made this sort of a McDonald's atmosphere for hard core customers and most of the first maid cafes have already gone out of business :( There is always a new trend in Akihabara and Patirck Galbraith and I will explore Manga & Anime at the end of April -- I already filmed the episode! (We also went to Mandarake in Nakano Broadway.) I'll ask Patrick what he thinks of Maid Cafes and what's next? I want to know! -John
Another great video! Everything was very well explained. Also I have a question about Japanese people, do they speak English? Because I heard they won't or can't speak English. I want to know if this is true. :) Thanks in advance and keep up the good work! :D
Steven van Vugt Thanks for watching! In Japan we do take mandatory English classes of 6years up to high school, but it's all in the books so speaking is quite a challenge for us :( But, there will always be someone who can speak or will try to help you in English so no worries when you come here! - WAORYU staff
+howl13 Travel tv can't handle this level of awesomeness. Besides, his dedicated audience would probably wreck travel tv if they ever tried to control or change the kinds of videos or vlogs that he wants to make. I predict by the 2020 Olympics this channel will have well over 1 million subscribers.
BANANABOY132 Japan is excited to have you visit too! I hear they put geisha models int he airport to welcome visitors! (Cool.) Thanks for watching!! -John
you make it look so nice relaxing and a fun life makes you wanna do that even for a living everyday even fish or just eat fish then you think ur not in that sort of country or environment so wouldn't work or go to well owell its how the cookie crumbles.
I find it funny that people are rushing to acquire a share of btc and crypto in general just on hearing Elon musk got some, despite the recent challenge at 48k(USD) for market value. The truth is, Bitcoin is way bigger than anyone in the world currently, this is merely a start to the rise of btc and crypto in general this year. What i'm trying to say is, btc is bigger than Elon and would sooner than later see better figures irrespective of his purchase. This is the very reason I am focused on accumulating more btc by way of trading with high indicators and expert signals I use for personal trading from pro trade analyst carlos I'll admit it, His guide has been the reason I've gotten 17 BTC in portfolio trading in the year 2020. he can be contacted on iNStagram (@carlos_andrewfx) for crypto-inclined challenges issues....

WAORYU ONLYinJAPAN I bet The Travel channel will even have to do a special TV documentary.. This is a big deal after all.
I remember an old Peter Barakan episode about this market. I liked that show but I think this was more informative and more direct. Keep it up.
DIY rice bowls at Tsukiji market sounds awesome! You'd save a ton of money over visiting the local restaurants.
Great Video ! always nice to see something new ! :D

wow l love fish and tuna is my favorite, thank you so much for this video l got really hungry when l watch this, l can't wait for your next video :)
We tried to get into the auction today (2016-09-15), here are some learnings:
- these days the registration starts at 2:00am
- 120 people get in
- the group was full at 2:45am, we got there at 3:20am :(
This might be just today, but consider checking it before. My guess is, that since the time the video was shot, the process changed.
Wow! I saw a lot of tourists!
I can see the auction sounds being a good intro to a song it has a nice rhythm
rocker1821 It is very rhythmic, isn't it? Would be amazing if someone put it to music!! Remix it with a beat.
