The problem is that these large fish don't reproduce and grow up that quickly, so they don't reach maturity until 5 years. That means you would actually need multiples of that age in order for the population to really recover, which would mean decades of decreased or no catching

Prawn based sushi is where it’s at 👌 and that can just be bred and matured in a tank.
Prawns need to be cooked though but a place I went to sells warm, slightly fried with batter, sushi. The ends of the roll have full prawns sticking out fully battered, the sauce too, god. It tastes like takoyaki in roll form with rice. So good... I want some now.

Human are way too stupid and selfish to mitigate the food shortages that would result from the very reasonable suggestion you just made. I've heard in some countries, when they hunt land animals, every 5-7 seasons they have 1 full year no hunting year when all the animals can reproduce and leave their offspring to boost population, but for sure there are seasons when you can hunt each of the species.
I think this needs to be implemented in regards to marine life too.

    It's so weird
Here in Ireland our Bluefin population is higher than ever. The Tuinnín here is the Northeastern Atlantic Bluefin tuna stock that migrates from the Mediterranean to Northern waters to feed. They migrate to Ireland from Summer to late Autumn. In
Ireland it is legal to fish for Tuinnín as a sport fish on a C&R basis. A tagging programme was also setup to moniter the stock. It is illegal to fish for them commercially Irish waters.
They're increased population has also been noted in the UK and Norway. But Ireland has had the best explosion by far. 600lb is the average Tuinnín and a big one is 800 + . They are mostly caught on the West, North West and South West Coasts. The counties are Gaillimh, Maigh Eo, Corcaigh and Dún na nGall. Irelands population of massive Bluefin Tuna is because we outlawed the commercial catching and sale of this amazing species. Most fisherman who caught Tuinnín commercialy now run Fishing guide boats from all those counties listed to catch and release some big game Bluefin. The rest of the world should learn from this example

The problem of declining catches due to overfishing is not limited to Japan. There is no change in the fact that it is a problem that fishermen in countries all over the world must think about. Even if one country regulates the amount of fish caught, it doesn't make sense if fishermen in another country are overfishing. Tuna is not the only tuna that is endangered due to overfishing, and if sushi becomes more popular around the world in the future, it will undoubtedly become a major problem.

The meat industry pollution is bigger than air, sea and land travel combined. You can recycle, you can compost, drive a Tesla, but when it comes down to the facts stop eating meat is the best option. The ignorance towards Asian culture in this comment section is crazy to me. Japanese and Chinese culture do not so much value expensive gold chains, Lamborghinis, or cuban cigars as symbols of status and value. For us, it's eating delicacies. Oftentimes, eating a single slice of bluefin is a memory that a middle class person on a splurge will remember for the rest of their life.
The respect for food is unparalleled in Asia than any Western country. Mastering a single dish can take decades depending the delicacy, and is part of a family and heritage. For us, it's disrespectful to treat food as the western world does with its fast food and microwave meals. If the animals gave their life for us to eat, then we ought to respect their sacrifice by putting away a part of our own life for them through the art of cooking.
Overfishing does have terrible effects on the environment - but the government has indeed taken regulatory appraoches. It's easy to argue that in the long run, the ecosystem of the sea will be ruined - but in the long run, us humans are also dead. These bits of enjoyment, as selfish as it sounds, matters in the short moments that make up our lives.
As for the arguments about the disrespect of China and Japan have towards animals and the sea, they are clearly uninformed. Buddhism and Taoism, the most popular religions in these two regions, draw their power from nature. The Japanese are surrounded by water, and fishing has been one of the most integral parts of their culture far before white people discovered what Lamborghinis were.
The attentions that white people put their focus on are almost comical to me. You won't give black people rights, but you do care about us eating fish?

Tuna is a deep sea fish that can weight up to 150kg and you can see how big they are compare to human on the video. And they migrate over large distance in the sea. Not ideal/easy to be domesticated.
The reason why there is no tuna farm is because deep sea farm is still new infancy stage. They literally need to build a sea rig that able to withstand storm and net that able to protect from tuna predators. Not to mention sea pirate...
