"It's not about forcing happiness it's about not letting sadness win" is like one of my favorite lines ever, when people would always say "make it a great day" it made me feel obligated to forcefully feel happy and it felt like total bullshit because I knew it wasn't a good day, and it's important to Know it's okay to not be happy, it's only real to have shitty days. But you're not supposed to give in to those days.

You know as someone who has suffered depression and has achieved to overcome it, I can confirm. However, I also want to say that you need to have people backing you up as well as doing your best everyday to improve your life. In the end it gets better, but it takes time and effort.
Cool (-: , i first heard the acoustic version of this song 2 days ago and thought boring but as i was hearing more i was starting to like mainly because of the acoustic guitar, now im listen this version and its good too

Actually, most of it was filmed in Philly. Hank went by some of my favorite hang outs in center city, like Logan Circle fountain, the LOVE sign, the Art Museum, coming up the sub steps, City Hall, the Franklin Institute, the BF Parkway, and S. Broad street. But the band is from Lansdale, and I'm pretty sure the house scenes were filmed there.

I was in Pennsylvania this past weekend and when I came back I discovered this band and I noticed I had walked right next to the places where this band filmed this music video.
I met Josh at Bamboozle a few weeks ago. I told him how this band's gotten me through so much shit and the thing i love about these guys, is that they actually care
grew up inbetween landsdale and philly, I know literally EVERY place where this video was filmed. My school used to play baseball on the baseball field in the video occasionally (for away games)
i've loved pop punk bands like this for as long as i can remember, but i always seemed to love bands that ended up being from chicago, or ocala, or some far off place, and now i've found the perfect band from my hometown. it just makes them that much better.
Damn these guys have gotten me through so much...anybody who doesn't appreciate TWY doesn't appreciate what music is all about. And I guarantee I'm not alone in thinking that.
I love being from Philly like The Wonder Years because I understand all of their city references and I know where all the places they talk about are. It makes me feel like a true fan.
I love this I grew up in Lansdale and Hatfield! I lived three blocks from that pretzel factory and I skated at the kugal ball three set/train station all the time! This shit is epic!
I got the Lyrics "its not about forcing happiness, its about not letting sadness win" tattooed on my ribs last year cause i hold those lyrics dear to me and to give me a boost in my most darkest of times, especially since i suffer from anxiety and have a hard lifestyle. I just wanted to say thank you for making your amazing music TWY and hope to see you guys perform in London soon x
Ah I always come back to watch this video, it's so nostalgic, I live in Lansdale (right by the 'Jesus Saves' church) and Philadelphia is like my second home. So cool just recognizing all these places and thinking, aw that's where Hank was haha. Love them so much
Damn Philly hits hard. It’s beautiful but raw at the same time. Feels like a waiting room for things but the you ride by south Philly and you see people going about their life through their windows and it’s weird, because it is now the greenery filled houses it is more like a condo sea. Hard to describe.
Philly is different. It’s both terrible and amazing at the same time. I can picture being in that dugout playing baseball right now. Odd feeling that I was standing in the same spot as Hank without even knowing it 😅
I'm currently watching season one of It's Always Sunny In Philadelphia and there's kind of a connection of sorts. Most likely just a consequence, though. In episode 4 "Charlie Has Cancer" Mac and Carmen do pretty much the same thing Hank does at the 1:20 scene. Also in the first season Hopeless Records stickers can be seen all throughout the bar. I know The Wonder Years wasn't signed to HR in 2005, but it's still interesting.
"Im not a self help book, Im just a fucked up kid" really kinda rings true. I find Im always helping friends through their shit while wallowing in my own. But then they follow it up with a line "Its not about forcing happiness, its about not letting sadness win."

I met Soupy in June. He's a bit awkward but friendly and even remembered playing a show w my bf years ago. There's interviews here where he talks about not knowing wtf to do after college thus the frustration on The Upsides. This album is about a major breakup from his gf. listen to "Hey Thanks" from Upsides and "Woke Up Older" from Suburbia for proof. I don't think he has depression but he might have anxiety and AP said he only feels fine on stage.
so i saw them on the tour the other day, and am trying to look them up on youtube to see what songs i like... this is the only one that pops up besides a million copies of that show from my childhood. bad call on the band name lol
I really like how this song and some of their other songs aren't just about romance like half of the stuff on the radio is. I get sick of listening to it.
"Hey Brother,
Hope all is well back east. Never forget we're always here for you even when the rest of the world isn't.
