The track off of The Wonder Years' latest album, 'Suburbia I've Given You All And Now I'm Nothing.'
Lyrics:
I can't help myself; I keep ending up in Memorial Park breaking finger nails while I claw at the frozen ground because as long as I'm home, I can dig up these bones. There's no point to just letting go. As long as you've known me I've been backing out slowly. I won't end up underneath the snow. This is where it's been-the manger scene every Christmas, next to the cannon. Every year someone steals baby Jesus. Nobody stops them. It's a nice tradition. I'll put my life back together in silence while writing songs on Molly's guitar and Suburbia, stop pushing; I know what I'm doing. So, I moved myself and two boxes of things to the basement room at Richie's house and I'm happy here for now because I've been in search of some steadier footing or just a place to call home. I know that I'm introspective when broken but I've been spending most of my nights here alone and that doesn't scare me like it did a year ago. I had dreams of myself as the Allen Ginsberg of this generation, but without the talent, madness or vision, I guess it's looking hopeless. We're a city left digging out cars in unison and humming like we've healed. I know we've got miles to go but I'm putting my shoulder to the wheel.
Dude. Imo you are the Allen Ginsberg of this generation.
Truly
@@itcouldbelupus2842 it's nice to see people coming back to these songs. I'm the only person I know who even knows this band...
@@bobthedopeman7327 Yeah I only know a few people who know them, maybe only two, the friend who introduced me to them and my partner.
I live in New Zealand, and these guys are my favorite band, Soupy has got to be my favorite lyricist and vocalist.
Utter poetry, great take, he really is like the Ginsberg of this generation, between this and Aaron West.
underrated twy song, one of my all time favs
Very much so.
My ex and I stayed together for nearly a year out of fear of change. We knew it wasn't right. Finally we ended it, but I'm 2,000 miles from my hometown. So I've spent the last 6 months on her family's couch; and I've watched her fall in love with someone else. And I've also gotten to the point where I'm actually okay (in ways, for now). So when he says,
"Cause I've been in search of some steadier footing or just a place to call home. I know that I'm introspective when broken but I've been spending most of my nights here alone; and that doesn't scare me like it did a year ago."
I can fucking feel it..
D C - it's been a year. Hopefully you grew a pair.
It's been two years man, hope you're feeling better
Hope you found your way to feel better!
The love from these comments is amazing
It's been five years, hope you're doing well man.
Best TWY song in my opinion. Everyone can feel this.
suburbia stop pushing I know what I'm doing
"Every year someone steals baby Jesus. Nobody stops them. It's a nice tradition.." Probably the greatest lyric ever. Well done boys, well done indeed.
That outro is such a fantastic and fitting way to end this song. Anyone have a tab?
This is the best TWY song except for I just wanna sell out my funeral.
Although I haven’t listened to this song or band in a very very long time, for some reason these three brief moments are in my head almost every day.
0:32
1:53
3:06
They are just very pleasant and well sung and a lot of heart goes into them.
And the song is in 3/4 time signature! I love when bands do that. Needs to happen more often.
I only discovered them a couple years ago and now they’re my favorite band
Finishing a dream this morning, a few seconds before I woke up I hear "I'll put my life back together in silence while writing songs on Marley's guitar." it was the best thing to wake up too.
That's chill... but its Molly's Guitar. (Dont push pls. I know what I'm doing)
If you like TWY, you should definitely read America by Allen Ginsberg. He's an awesome poet and there are so many America references in this album. Fucking awesome lyrics.
i came hear to say this also, but beat me to it lol
The Wonder Years are great, I have recently got back into their music after not listening to them in a while and I see why I liked them in the first place. Their new stuff is awesome
I WON'T END UP UNDERNEATH THE SNOWWWWWWW~~~!
I live in the town referenced in this song (Lansdale), and the lyrics just... they hit me. hard.
That opening guitar riff is infectious.
tab 1- suburbia
tab 2- i've given you all
tab 3- and now i'm nothing
Because I've been in search of some steadier footing or just a place to call home. I know that I'm introspective when broken but I've been spending most of my nights here alone and that doesn't scare me like it did a year ago.
I wish they still played this music live. Now it's all from the latest two albums and a handful of songs from this one
At least Greatest Generation is good though
I come from the near future to tell you that they're currently touring NA, anniversary tour for this album and Upsides. Bought myself a ticket, hope you're able to do the same 🤘🏻
Fuck this drummer is so fire
Heard this on Spotify yesterday for first time in a long time. I used to love this album constantly quoted lyrics from it in my Tumblr days in my early 20s now back at age 34
Nossa carinha, vá dizer
This is my FAVORITE song by The Wonder Years!
The switch from 6/8 to 6/4 at 3:40 is so smooth
So damn good.
One person didn't know what they were doing so suburbia kept pushing
I can't help myself
I keep ending up in Memorial Park
Breaking finger nails while I claw at the frozen ground
Because as long as I'm home
I can dig up these bones
There's no point to just letting go
And as long as you've known me I've been backing out slowly
I won't end up underneath the snow
This is where it's been
The manger scene every Christmas
Next to the cannon
Every year someone steals baby Jesus
Nobody stops them
It's a nice tradition
I'll put my life back together in silence
While writing songs on Molly's guitar
And Suburbia, stop pushing
I know what I'm doing
So I moved myself and two boxes of things
To the basement room at Richie's house
And I'm happy here for now
Because I've been in search of some steadier footing
Or just a place to call home
I know that I'm introspective when broken
But I've been spending most of my nights here alone
And that doesn't scare me like it did a year ago
I'll put my life back together in silence
While writing songs on Molly's guitar
And Suburbia, stop pushing
I know what I'm doing
Suburbia, stop pushing
I know what I'm doing
Suburbia, stop pushing
I know what I'm doing
I had dreams of myself
As the Allen Ginsberg of this generation
But without the talent, madness or vision
I guess it's looking hopeless
We're a city left digging out cars in unison
And humming like we've healed
I know we've got miles to go
But I'm putting my shoulder to the wheel
saves the day
I always forget about Suburbia. I love this song.
Thanks for the memories,
2011 was a great Year
That doesn't scare me like it did a year ago.
best Christmas song ever
i'll put my shoulder to the wheel!
the best way to close the perfect record
Dang it suburbia! Stop pushing me! I know what I'm doing, gosh!
Everyday is a wonder years kind of day.
I can't decide which album is better, Upsides or Suburbia... then again I guess it doesn't really matter...
I fucking love this song so much
Why does this have so little views? o.o It's such a good song & such a fucking amazing band.
