Saw Megadeth open for Sabbath a few years back. Sadly, they only had an hour to play. The entire arena was chanting for Megadeth and you could see Dave was a bit taken back. After their first song, he grabbed the mic and said "We aren't gonna talk, we are just gonna play for you crazy bastards!" They went wild for the rest of the show. Was amazing.

He has probably had greater success with Megadeath than be would have staying with Metallica. I say that because they may have controlled his input on future songs so that Hetfield and Ulrich make most of the money off royalties. Rest assured I just seen him perform a couple days ago; no headbanging but his voice was better than ever! Age has really refined his voice. I've seen him several times.
I think the fact that Metallica being so successful and then Dave starting MegaDeth speaks volumes about how good Dave was even back 40 years ago. Not to many people can say they were apart of 2 major bands ever let alone at 20.
Les Claypool also had the same result when he tried out for Metallica but he ended up being overqualified I guess you could say . He was light years beyond them when it came to talent as well .

I bumped into Dave at an ATM in Scottsdale, AZ years ago. Such a friendly and approachable dude. This was before the selfie days and all that BS. I didn't even get an autograph and never told anybody for the longest time that I met him. Just a cool moment for an old fan... that out of pure chance met one of his metal heroes.
I think Dave's made a much bigger impact on music and imprint on society now than he ever would if he had stayed just a cog in the Metallica machine. I'm super happy for him.

I've always been a Metallica guy, but discovered 'em late...in '96. Learned about the history with Dave, and always had a certain perception of him which was biased, to a degree. I can see he's a guy of remarkable intellect, and throughout his conversation with Rogan exudes a very low-key humbleness. Very impressive dude.

it was his style of playing that puts him up there. he kinda kicked down the door for a new way for bass to be used in rock/metal/etc. thick basslines were prevelant in funk going back to sly and the family stone, but in rock/metal, it was just kind of the underline for the song. they'd do some melodic stuff and counter melodies and interesting stuff to add layers, most of the time they just mirror the root of whatever the overlying chord structure is in whatever inversion it may be, but cliff was playing it more like a lead guitarist would play. really intricate flowing lines undercutting songs. and that impact and how it affected metallica's songwriting even after his passing left a lasting impact on all of metal music even though he was only in the industry for.... what 2 years? that's not something many bassists can claim, let alone guitarists.

I think Dave is an amazing riff writer---Lucretia is out of this world unique---but, Kirk has some classic solos. I'm not a fan of Dave's soloing and pretty much any of Kirk's on Kill 'Em All.

Listen to Marty flaring up the fretboard, using exotic scales and what not. The thing is Megadeth def had more tasteful players than Kirk. Listen to Tornado of Souls, Lucretia. Hell listen to Marty's solo albums: Dragons Kiss, Scenes. Listen to the Singles: Night, Tibet Angel, Valley of Eternity, Undertow. Marty's playing feels very holistic, deep and memorable. While Kirk's is not.

Yeah it was like 40 years ago. Dave Mustaine used to be angry all the time as a kid because of problems in his life. Now he isn't angry anymore. He just sits back and enjoy life. You can't think about all the things that happened a long time ago.
I’m really happy for him that he’s in a place now where he has made peace with his past with Metallica. It seems like all throughout the 80s and 90s he couldn’t get through an interview without taking some shot at them, which is ridiculous, because Megadeth has always been a great band in their own right. He’s done huge things that most musicians only dream of.
It must be very frustrating for Dave to explain every time to the fans and the media that there is no grudge towards Metallica; this is a man who cherishes the time spent with his old bandmates and mostly misses a talented friend that died way too early... It's about time for everyone to show some respect.

What a walking testimony this man is. I remember him back in the 80’s - a total bad - ass; super charismatic, dangerous. I wasn’t a metal guy; but I always thought Megadeth were cooler than Metallica ( again, I wasn’t a metal fan- ) I just thought he has a personal charisma that I could relate to. And to hear him now, and how he articulates himself and what he values now is a beautiful demonstration of the power of God; when one is humbled enough to listen. Thanks for this.
When you are young, rich and have sex and drugs all day long its easy to lose scope and focus of your real self, he needed decades to finally get onto the right path but he is now and hes a religious man which is surprising considering he was into voodoo and black magic back in the 80's and early 90's, I dont know exactly when he found God but that was his motor to get out of that self destructing pit and thats commendable. Besides that hes a great fucking musicial way better than any other Tallica members (maybe on par with Cliff Burton) and his Ex Megadeth bandmates (Maybe on par too with Marty Friedman and Kiko)

Met him here in Franklin, TN after he moved here for his daughter's career and he kinda growled at me while telling my Marty stories. Had no clue what I could've positioned for in this town for his talented kid.
Growing up in Montana , took a bit longer for this kind of music to reach us ... But at the end of junior high and all through highschool , all we listened to was Metallica , Megadeth , Slayer , Ozzy and Chris Ledoux. Lots of love Dave, family and the whole crew , from the big sky country 🌞🇺🇲

Dave Mustaine was one of the older members of Metallica too, along with Cliff Burton. James Hetfield and Lars Ulrich would have been 17-18 years old when the wrote and recorded Kill Em' All and then only 20 years old when they released and toured Ride the Lightning internationally not long after. Big Mustaine fan, this guy is just so interesting and incredible and has definitely left his stamp on heavy metal as arguably the singular most important individual to live as it relates to heavy metal, having started Metallica and Megadeth, with his influence on at least 2 early Metallica albums and of course all of Megadeth. absolutely feel that. i don't really listen to thrash nowadays, been almost a decade since i was last into it, but as much I loved those early Metallica albums and spent more time and energy on Metallica, I look back and still think I prefer Megadeth back then and today KIMBABIG was such a killer album and had this energy and rawness that Metallica didn't have, for me in my opinion anyways

I remember a dude moved from Florida to my little town in Indiana in 1987 or so and he had tapes of bands I had never heard of playing a kind of music I had not heard . Megadeth , Anthrax, Metal Church etc. It made me wonder what else was out there I wasn't hearing . I started buying Metal magazines and found out there was a whole lot of bands out there I would not have discovered if I left it to FM radio or Mtv . Some of them sucked and some didn't but I always enjoyed discovering things I had not heard. I still do.
Always been a big fan of Mustaine. He never sold out, and always stayed about the metal. And he's 60 now and still pushing the proverbial envelope. Gotta respect a dude like Dave. Plus, he trains jiu jitsu. Such a cool guy.

Metallica had the greatest thrash writing trio for a brief moment in Hetfield, Mustaine and Burton. It will most likely never be equalled again for sheer talent for that genre.
Got a chance to catch them on the 20th anniversary of Countdown to Extinction tour in ‘12. Absolutely blew the roof off the place! One of my top 10 shows
I grew up in the 80s and I saw Metallica for the first time in 1988 before And Justice for All was released. I never listened to Megadeth until 2020 when an internet friend encouraged me to give them a listen. I knew there was history and a rivalry between Metallica and Megadeth and their fans, but I knew nothing about it. I became so engrossed in Megadeth that I was blown away by how much better they are than Metallica.
I remember hearing about Cliff Burton and the fallout. Sad that Cliff died in the tour bus accident his contribution in his short time was amazing. And Metal Melita is one of my favorite metal songs of all time. I'm glad Mr Dave Mustaine turned a disaster into an opportunity and gave the fans Megadeth. Thank you Dave. For your music, all of you fkrs gave me hope in a dark dark time of my life.

I saw Megadeth Dec 5th 1992 Sacramento, CA (Suicidal Tendencies opened) and again Feb 24th 2012. (Gigantour Los Angeles, CA - Lacuna Coil, Volbeat & Motorhead) Nearly 20 years between shows and Megadeth played their asses off both shows. Dave's guitar work is timeless! Megadeth is Amazing live!

Saw him live in Dallas Tx I want to say in 2010 ish. He had just broke his hand and Megadeath announced they couldn’t come out that night and play.. 20 mins later out he came ALONE and shredded for a solid 30 minutes and then left. He is for sure one of the greatest guitar players of all time

I've been to about 60 rock concerts. Everyone from Iron Maiden to Metallica to Sabbath, Pantera, Tool, NIN. But seeing Dave play his guitar on stage was just a feeling & a vibe that had me mesmerized to a point that no other live performance has taken me. Simply amazing musician. And seems like an amazing person all around.

I didn't even get an autograph and never told anybody for the longest time that I met him. Just a cool moment for an old fan... that out of pure chance met one of his metal heroes.

I've always been a Metallica guy, but discovered 'em late...in '96. Learned about the history with Dave, and always had a certain perception of him which was biased, to a degree. I can see he's a guy of remarkable intellect, and throughout his conversation with Rogan exudes a very low-key humbleness. Very impressive dude.

it was his style of playing that puts him up there. he kinda kicked down the door for a new way for bass to be used in rock/metal/etc. thick basslines were prevelant in funk going back to sly and the family stone, but in rock/metal, it was just kind of the underline for the song. they'd do some melodic stuff and counter melodies and interesting stuff to add layers, most of the time they just mirror the root of whatever the overlying chord structure is in whatever inversion it may be, but cliff was playing it more like a lead guitarist would play. really intricate flowing lines undercutting songs. and that impact and how it affected metallica's songwriting even after his passing left a lasting impact on all of metal music even though he was only in the industry for.... what 2 years?
that's not something many bassists can claim, let alone guitarists.

Hell listen to Marty's solo albums: Dragons Kiss, Scenes. Listen to the Singles: Night, Tibet Angel, Valley of Eternity, Undertow.
Marty's playing feels very holistic, deep and memorable. While Kirk's is not.

I’m really happy for him that he’s in a place now where he has made peace with his past with Metallica. It seems like all throughout the 80s and 90s he couldn’t get through an interview without taking some shot at them, which is ridiculous, because Megadeth has always been a great band in their own right. He’s done huge things that most musicians only dream of.

What a walking testimony this man is.
I remember him back in the 80’s - a total bad - ass; super charismatic, dangerous. I wasn’t a metal guy; but I always thought Megadeth were cooler than Metallica ( again, I wasn’t a metal fan- ) I just thought he has a personal charisma that I could relate to.
And to hear him now, and how he articulates himself and what he values now is a beautiful demonstration of the power of God; when one is humbled enough to listen. Thanks for this.
When you are young, rich and have sex and drugs all day long its easy to lose scope and focus of your real self, he needed decades to finally get onto the right path but he is now and hes a religious man which is surprising considering he was into voodoo and black magic back in the 80's and early 90's, I dont know exactly when he found God but that was his motor to get out of that self destructing pit and thats commendable. Besides that hes a great fucking musicial way better than any other Tallica members (maybe on par with Cliff Burton) and his Ex Megadeth bandmates (Maybe on par too with Marty Friedman and Kiko)

just my opinion but megadeth is better than metallica. metallica had a wider reach but as far as being able to play their instruments the gap is noticeable

I remember a dude moved from Florida to my little town in Indiana in 1987 or so and he had tapes of bands I had never heard of playing a kind of music I had not heard . Megadeth , Anthrax, Metal Church etc. It made me wonder what else was out there I wasn't hearing . I started buying Metal magazines and found out there was a whole lot of bands out there I would not have discovered if I left it to FM radio or Mtv . Some of them sucked and some didn't but I always enjoyed discovering things I had not heard. I still do.
Cliff man , dude was amazing
Always been a big fan of Mustaine. He never sold out, and always stayed about the metal. And he's 60 now and still pushing the proverbial envelope. Gotta respect a dude like Dave. Plus, he trains jiu jitsu. Such a cool guy.
I wish I could say the same about Metallica, and this coming from a life-long fan of the band. They stopped caring about their fans, and more about the money. I just wonder what Cliff would say about that? Since before his untimely death he played because he loved it and also played for his fans.
@@Yourmommyisbusy Cliff could have changed as well had he still be living, we don't know. I mean, he loved lots of genre's of music and some of the genres he loved were bands that were very popular at the time....As he got older he may have wanted to move into different genres of music.
@@Yourmommyisbusy I couldn’t disagree more, Dave would have gladly “sold out”, if he could of… Metallica does a lot for the fans for free… releasing content, old shows that are professionally mixed for free, not sure how they could do more while being one of the biggest bands ever
Most thrash bands sold out in the 90s, for megadeth it was “Risk”

I've been on "team Dave" since day one....his line, "I don't push it on people, it's my thing" is awesome...if only more people who push their agenda's, whatever they may be, had this philosophy the world would be a better place!

Metallica had the greatest thrash writing trio for a brief moment in Hetfield, Mustaine and Burton. It will most likely never be equalled again for sheer talent for that genre.
Got a chance to catch them on the 20th anniversary of Countdown to Extinction tour in ‘12. Absolutely blew the roof off the place! One of my top 10 shows
I grew up in the 80s and I saw Metallica for the first time in 1988 before And Justice for All was released. I never listened to Megadeth until 2020 when an internet friend encouraged me to give them a listen. I knew there was history and a rivalry between Metallica and Megadeth and their fans, but I knew nothing about it. I became so engrossed in Megadeth that I was blown away by how much better they are than Metallica.
Sometimes I’m in a Metallica mood, sometimes I’m in a Megadeth mood. I wouldn’t say either band is BETTER, they’re just different

I remember hearing about Cliff Burton and the fallout. Sad that Cliff died in the tour bus accident his contribution in his short time was amazing. And Metal Melita is one of my favorite metal songs of all time. I'm glad Mr Dave Mustaine turned a disaster into an opportunity and gave the fans Megadeth. Thank you Dave. For your music, all of you fkrs gave me hope in a dark dark time of my life.

I saw Megadeth Dec 5th 1992 Sacramento, CA (Suicidal Tendencies opened) and again Feb 24th 2012. (Gigantour Los Angeles, CA - Lacuna Coil, Volbeat & Motorhead) Nearly 20 years between shows and Megadeth played their asses off both shows. Dave's guitar work is timeless! Megadeth is Amazing live!

Saw him live in Dallas Tx I want to say in 2010 ish. He had just broke his hand and Megadeath announced they couldn’t come out that night and play.. 20 mins later out he came ALONE and shredded for a solid 30 minutes and then left. He is for sure one of the greatest guitar players of all time

I've been to about 60 rock concerts. Everyone from Iron Maiden to Metallica to Sabbath, Pantera, Tool, NIN. But seeing Dave play his guitar on stage was just a feeling & a vibe that had me mesmerized to a point that no other live performance has taken me. Simply amazing musician. And seems like an amazing person all around.
Dave deserves all the respect in the world. Great to see him on the show
