The double note is still in World. It's still forward+B/circle and it makes buffs like ATK Up(L) and HP Increase come out more smoothly. Also fun to just repeat the double swing and LT/L2 when all your buffs are up and unload echo waves on a downed monster.
@@LichCrypt Don’t even need them, just poke the tail with the hilt With enough guts, perseverance, might pills and shock traps, you can stab the tail off
never played dos, first gen HH looks so brutal... must be in recital mode in order to get those notes out..... people who mastered the HH in dos must be like "godamn thats a huge improvement" in p3rd...
UHHHHHHHH, are you the person who made the rage /v/ animations????????????? I'm honored you're watching these! Also, yeah HH in gen2 was a wild time to say the least.
actually dos was my first MH game, was in the days i had a ps2 and here in brazil piracy is unbelivably common, so this lady sold some discs with ps2 games and for some reason she had MH dos on one of them, i got it and them when i got it and boot it up i saw the game was in japanesse, still tried it out and really liked it even tho i couldnt uderstend much of it, i actually stoped playing it for a bit but later i came back to it, got curious and searched it on the net and that was when i completely fallen on the MH rabbit hole
HH stops being a "support weapon" when you learn how to weave recitals and encores into your combo to deal big damage while keeping 100% uptime on all your buffs. You don't play while the monster is away, you smash that melody into its eardrums until it is ready to carve.
Depends on your team, if you play with one. You got a lot of weak hunters these days, and Jesus, you might find yourself scrambling to heal them when they catch a concussion from a trash Monster because they never learned how to do anything by themselves, and are just sprinting through the game without knowing how most of the systems work. I swear, I'm convinced a lot of new players have never figured out how the radial menu works, considering I've seen more than my fair share of people down at 15% health taking a full 15 seconds to heal, even completely out of danger. They're either cycling through the menu the old fashioned way with left shoulder button while spazzing out, or are running out of potions like they're Donald from Kingdom Hearts 1.
Very well done and fun to watch! If I could add anything it’s how since 3rd gen monsters could become exhausted and HH causes more exhaust damage than any other weapon, making it essentially a nice feature of the weapon! ^^
The thing I always liked about the Horn is the breadth of appearances for the weapon. The 'classic' bagpipe look is cool but who doesn't love bashing a monster's skull in with a giant fuck-you bell??
I think calling it a "supportive" weapon instead of "support" would be more in line with what it is. Also, its generally better at exhausting monsters vs the hammer which is better at KO
I mean, you're a weapon, and your songs are great support. I dont see the problem calling it a support weapon. It'd be offensive if it was just called "support", but it isn't, it's called Support -weapon-. Even capcom themselves calls it that, in-game
@@BragoTHEgraviyKING people get offended cause they think that support = weak and not for combat, which is not true... To me it is a support weapon, the capability of supporting with power ups is built in in the weapon's moveset and mechanics, and this doesn't mean it is not meant for combat lol. It just a matter of what support means in you vocabulary at this point.
@@DrStoCazzo This sounds like alot of people make the mistake of comparing Monster Hunter with something like a pure single player rpg, where indvidual characters are often not required to also be usable without a party.
HH main since 3U here; it's really hard to imagine the weapon before the recital overhaul! 2nd gen horn mains are a different beast entirely.. As wild and fast and fun as the weapon is in Rise, I do really miss the Gen double note system, that was probably my favourite incarnation of the weapon so far. It was kinda nice being the least used weapon class - people always really appreciated the rare moments when you showed up and helped them doot doot their way to victory!
Watching this video I realized with all the changes that HH has recived through Generations it's very fitting for a musical instrument weapon Because Music is always evolving.
I honestly think the HH in Rise is too different from the original HH. I'm not disliking it completly, but I think they should have turned this idea of a faster sound-based weapon into a new weapon type.
@@keybum9672 do you mean World or earlier? Because if you _really_ mean OG... that shit was so weird and not very good outside of multiplayer (I'd assume, as I was only ever able to play solo on PSP). The real original Horn did NOT play notes as you fought... Recital Mode was literally that - you had to stop attacking and switch into a mode where all you did was play songs while VERY slowly shuffling. That movement was the exact same as it has been for over a decade, but it was very risky solo, as there was no such thing as using your attacks to play notes and cue up songs. Over the past few days I've been dedicating myself to really learning how Rise/Sunbreak's Horn works, and jeez, it's weird. Instant melody effects and Magnificent Trio are cool, but the swing styles and speeds are kinda busted. I find myself getting stuck in non-recital animations a bunch because some last almost double the time their previous counterparts do, the evasive swings (from the now missing Encore) take too long and don't move you out of the way far enough to counter these bad portable hitboxes, and the most damaging switch skills take an excruciating amount of time to come out or complete. It's interesting and the buffs are still pretty good, but it feels like they murdered the snappiness and weight of Hunting Horn in favor of trying to make it look cool while playing almost like button mashers on Eddie Gordo... that wasn't needed. Horn was already cool as fuck, and I don't appreciate having to take so long to build up a gauge for a single spinnerooni (the attack introduced in Iceborne). I also would have liked the bonus effects left behind from the spins, but at least they specifically play "Infernal Melody" for everyone in range (my attack went from 377 to 411, but I don't think an increase of 34 is static, probably percentage-based), and Slide Beat (basic Silkbind attack) gives you an attack power boost to go with the automatic self-improvement. Altogether, it's fine, I guess. This game doesn't have the inflated numbers of World or 4u, so being able to increase my overall attack by 68 and defense by 110 with weapons that feature attack/defense up is still damned good. Horn is still a powerful tool, despite me not being crazy about how it plays the way I was in World/Iceborne.
@@Virjunior01 yeah hunting horn in my opinion was in its best form with how well it played and the addition of a few nice quality of life additions like seeing notes rather than having to remember songs lol. Rise took the hh as a concept and completely rewrote it as a way less engaging dps weapon, which was so puzzling to me. I do understand that the horn was the least played but it had a strong community that really loved the weapon as it was, it just seems like a way better idea to add an additional playstyle instead of changing the weapon entirely.
The hunting horn needs more sound based attacks. That would be fucking cool. I imagine a move like the gunlance, where you slam the horn down and then blow into it!
I mean that's literally what the Earthshaker Silkbind move is, you jam the HH into the Monster's face, then strum the wirebug string like a guitar to generate a shockwave that deals massive damage.
I used to be a Hunting Horn main. The changes in Rise make me uneasy. Yes, the swings are more satisfying now, but at what cost? They’ve stripped all the complexity and nuance from the weapon and turned it into a friend-tripping beatstick. All I can do is pray that there’s a lot missing from the demo version of the weapon.
HH is comparable to that one character in a fighting game who receives tons of buffs to get the player-base to play them; only to be secretly already really freaking good to begin with ( think Tien; from Fighterz). Rise seems to have gone really hard this time to get people hyped up to actually pick up this beast of a weapon; so I'm excited to see what this will mean for it going forward. Also; knowing what we do of the data mining has me excited to see which "style" of HH people will gravitate towards.
It's funny how they still call Rise/Sunbreak HH Notes "Songs"... there's no Rythm, no thoughtful planning, it's just double notes with the occasional Spin. There is no song. Note 1 -> Note 1 = "Self improvement" is the only Double Note Song that I can understand to be a Full Song. It's a mandotory self-buff that you need 24/7. Every other Buff like "Attack up" needed to be earned with multiple Notes (Note 1 -> Note 3 -> Note 3 -> Note 2) and a good timed Performance, stacking up to 3 Songs that made you learn a certain rythm depending on wich horn was used, also letting you produce Notes with Shortcuts or while another Note was played (World). For example: You play Note 2s long Animation wich has 2 swings (the flourish), when you input any Note during the second swing, it will get implemented. The shortcuts were Hilt Stabs, which you could do after every Note played by simply holding the Stick behind your Char and choose any Note you wanted. The Music Boomstick is my favorite weapon in World/Iceborne because of all these little things because it just feels rewarding. Today's HH is just: Note 2 -> Note 2 Note 3 -> Note 3 Tbf Rise/Sunbreak HH was fun at the beginning because it was something new, but grew old pretty quickly.
Another thing to note (ahah) is that now so many attacks have the sound blast that ignore hitzones that already was in world for the performance attacks. Now it's in the performance, the magnificent trio has at least 4 hits like that, the slide beat has it, and the earthshaker final hit as well ( which seems to always produce a stun hit regardless of were the initial hit was) so simplified in term of were to position as well.
Im (was) a absolut HH main (did make every singel one in MHGU) I loved to keep the Melodys in check and other Hunters as effektiv as possible by using a HH that komplimet the Wapons and Skills in the team the most! The new "huntig horn" just fell like playing a ... Long-hammer with shelling and glave buffs...? to keep it short. that thing is very powerfull, a HH by name and everything else in Hart...
@@Lachy1407 sorry, but I often don't have time and desire to test read because my brain thinks it would be a good idea to read all the words at the same time (which surprisingly does not work well xD)
An honest weapon that almost always gets overlooked I'd like you to cover is the Lance. I'm curious in how much has actually changed over the generations.
Im not a HH main, but the first time I played the Weapon.to support my team, I almost forgot the Buffs, and focus on beat the Monster, I have a blast of Fun. I cant solo end game monster yet, but when you click with the music hammer, is pure love.
Rise opted to make the HH more simplified and accessible to the playerbase which made a rise in people using it. Though it came at the cost of making all 5 of the HH mains mad.
As someone who finds memorizing the melodies a chore i love the changes. My monke brain can focus on big dick damage while also playing as support without needing to think about it.
The only other mh I played before rise was 4 ultimate and the moment I saw it I fell in love with the hunting horn. My time with the game was not too long and so I had forgotten how it was before rise and this video just flooded me with memories
What I find interesting about these Weapon videos is that, keeling in mind they're mostly predictions, each of Rise sections have something just flat out inaccurate in them. Bow is the most powerful weapon in Rise, lots of Hunting Horn alum have problems with the Rise reworks, the flip-a-dip hammer silkbug move is one of the best moves in the hammer's arsenal; etc & so on. As reference material these videos are great, except when you get to their Rise sections. So I'm wondering if there are any plans to update them and make them more accurate. Either way thanks for the history lesson.
With hunting horn having gotten the most revisions over the years, a nice contrast may be to look at sword and shield next as the ol' reliable of the hunter's arsenal.
HH has one more feature that is easy to miss: Reciting also has a Taunt effect, which makes the monster in the area more aggressive towards you. One of the many reasons, why corner horning is a bad habit by newcomers to the weapon. It very much destroys the flow of the fight when the monster suddenly blazes acrosss the map and your party has to chase it chasing you. However, you can use this to your advantage as it usually means you get the monster to face you, making your job to smack their face that much easier.
I have never played HH until Rise and the main reason why is it looked quite daunting to learn and play, I was quite comfortable maining SA and CB for the longest time since those weapons complimented my play style and I guess I let the opinon of HH being a "support weapon" clouded my judgement since I mostly played solo unless with friends. I can't compare how HH in Rise differs from past games but all I can say is that I love this weapon, it feels simple to pick up and get into hunts either as a solo or multiplayer weapon and it will be my second main in Rise when it is released.
Well I'm glad even someone who hasn't played HH much can see how simple they've made it. I mained HH in world and the thing that drew me to the weapon was how meticulous it was. Planning your song path and finding that perfect time to hit the monster with the encore, get a KO and then really go to town on the monster. I loved that. The HH in rise, at least in the demo, has had all that stripped and basically is just press buttons to win. I picked up the horn and hopped straight into mizu quest and beat the bubbles out of him while barely trying and still learning the new mechanics. Its just so brain dead now. But I guess thats the quick way to make a weapon popular. Make it easy and OP. Its fine, I've found a new love now in the hammer. (Also we can now add the HH to the list of annoying trip weapons. Hope they turn that shit down. 😠)
I found the hh interesting in World (my first game) but never truly picked it up, saw the changes in Rise and loved them, then after finishing rise I decided to start GU, found myself liking hh a lot there too, I personally love both hh styles, so I really hope they change new hh into a brand new weapon type in future games
Just played the PC demo and this is exactly how I feel for the Rise HH. I thought the new horn was a bit fun to play but there was always this itch that made me feel the horn just felt stripped.
LS Mains: No you can’t just sit in a corner during the hunt! HH Mains: Here, here, here we go So they're finally here, performing for you, if you know the words, you can join in too, Put your hands together, if you want to clap, as we take you through, this monkey rap! Huh! D.K., Donkey Kong!! He's the leader of the bunch, you know him well, he's finally back to kick some tail, his Coconut Gun can fire in spurts, if he shoots ya, it's gonna hurt, he's bigger, faster, and stronger too, he's the first member of the D.K. crew! Huh! D.K., Donkey Kong! D.K., Donkey Kong is here! This Kong's got style, so listen up dudes, she can shrink in size, to suit her mood, she's quick and nimble when she needs to be, she can float through the air and climb up trees! if you choose her, you'll not choose wrong, with a skip and a hop, she's one cool Kong! Huh! D.K., Donkey Kong! He has no style, he has no grace, this Kong has a funny face, he can handstand when he needs to, and stretch his arms out, just for you, inflate himself just like a balloon, this crazy Kong just digs this tune! Huh! D.K., Donkey Kong! D.K., Donkey Kong is here! He's back again and about time too, and this time he's in the mood, he can fly real high with his jetpack on, with his pistols out, he's one tough Kong! He'll make you smile when he plays his tune, but Kremlings beware 'cause he's after you! Huh! D.K., Donkey Kong! Huh! Finally, he's here for you, it's the last member of the D.K. crew! This Kong's so strong, it isn't funny, can make a Kremling cry out for mummy, can pick up a boulder with relative ease, makes crushing rocks seem such a breeze, he may move slow, he can't jump high, but this Kong's one hell* of a guy! (*Replaced with "heck" in later versions of the song.) Huh! C'mon Cranky, take it to the fridge! W-w-w-walnuts. Peanuts. Pineapple smells. Grapes. Melons. Oranges and coconut shells! Ahh yeah! Walnuts, peanuts, pineapple smells, Grapes, melons, oranges and coconut shells! Ahh yeah!
ive made a tradition of maining a diffrent weapon every game and it looks like this go around il be maining hunting horn and switch axe tho there are a couple of changes i would make to the horn like keeping the spinning attack in the base move set while making the charge up attack something different and i would make it so you haft to play the songs but replace the animation of playing with the new break dancing move but overall im likening the way this weapon is looking in rise
I really wanted to play HH in monster hunter world, but I played with mouse and keyboard and I really struggled to memorize any of the combos (was new to the series and didn’t know controller was the way to play). I decided to pick it up in rise, I was determined to actually learn it like I hadn’t in world. Rise got rid of all memorized combos and holy crap I think it is one of the most fun weapons to play, it feels like one of the best solo run weapons to play with a massive support kit but also some absolutely massive damage
The hunting horn is one of these weapons I sometimes play but always love when I do. That said, I've yet to main it in any game - I'm essentially a part-time horner lol I was VERY surprised when I played it in the Rise demo though. It feels... nice. Very nice. HOWEVER, returning to World and trying it there, I'm falling back in love with the old weapon. World, and especially Iceborne HH feels SO DAMN GOOD. I'm honestly torn how I feel about the weapon now and am excited to see how it'll fare in the full game.
for me that has interest to going back and forth between older generations of monhun (when I haven't get a proper device to run mhw or get a proper console), this is a gold nugget ❤
Honestly, while I very much love Rise's version of the horn for being one of the single biggest overhauls of a weapon to make it so strong, I still like World's iteration more overall. Rise's rework limited the horn to only 3 songs, even if you switched out the ability to play songs from double notes to a single one of each. Iceborne's version definitely made the weapon better and being able to see your song combos was IMO the better way to do it. After I managed to get used to the HH in Iceborne, it was incredibly satisfying to not only be playing with a support Hammer, but with one that buffed everyone WHILE you were absolutely beating the monster's head in. Especially the Encore smacks at the right time. Those were incredibly satisfying.
The methodical nature of the weapon in Iceborne is what made me use it once everything calmed down after Fatalis. Surpassed Greatsword and Bow for me in my favorite weapons list right behind Longsword now.
The problem with using the term "support" is that most other games use it to describe an usually backliner role whose primary goal is to help other players instead of attacking or approaching the objective directly, making the role rather passive. In Monster Hunter, a game which scales difficulty along with the number of players, a dedicated support is somewhat detrimental even in the hardest of fights due to the lengthening of having that one more passive hunter. Yes, Hunting Horn supports other players via buffs but that is the result of inputting attacks, suggesting the support part of the weapon being a secondary or parallel goal. More so every hunter can support each other with just simple items or one ability or two in their set. Even dedicated backliners that constantly apply status to the monsters are called crowd control, not explicitly support. So let's call the Hunting Horn for what it seems to be designed and for what it shines at: a buffing weapon.
I think you're specifically thinking in terms of MMO's. Even games like Battlefield have "support" classes that are still actively engaging in battle, but have supportive abilities that other classes do not.
@@SuperRADLemon Yup, but SnS and the Bowguns are more than capable of acting support even better than Hunting Horn and those get a pass away from being called plain and simple support or support weapon or anything similar. The term doesn't bother me but I think it is a specific reason for "corner horners" to exist, because yes, in some videogames the support class doesn't mean you shouldn't be aggro but there are other games which the term almost means to be passive. If I can disengage the fight in this Monster Hunter game and play my tried and truth, learnt from other games, passive support role with my support horn, why wouldn't I? And that's the birth of a Corner Horner. That's why I prefer not to call it support, to maybe help avoid those misunderstandings of the role and its capabilities.
I took a break from World and went back to GU to try out HH and LBG after being a SA main since 3U and holy shit are they fun. When I tried HH in World, it was the most fun weapon I've ever played. It made me a believer and while I'm going to miss the extra note and encores, I'm super excited to doot through Rise with HH. I don't care if it's called a support weapon or not, it's still called a weapon and that's enough for me.
To be honest, I like the new hunting horn, makes it way easier to play it aggressively while still getting out buffs. I will always love the old hunting horn, and personally speaking the gen ult horn because I think double notes are the absolute best thing ever, but also because I just like using the weapon. Anyways thanks for making this video, I started with 3U and mained the horn In that game, while it hasn't been my main since, I did always keep up with my hh skills and it was always my secondary weapon in each game since. Rise will be me returning g to maining the HH again. Imma say great sword should be a weapon you do next, if not soon after.
Hi everyone, I found just yesterday this channel and bingewatched the weapon history videos, and finally reached here to HH. Have to say, people IMO do not understand the meaning of "support weapon" : it's a kind of weapon designed for coop use, wich provide benefits not only to the user but also to rest of party. Nothing less, nothing more. But, many read it like "meh, supp weapons are weak and boring". I wonder why...
I started in and played exclusively LS in 3U, but in 4U I picked up HH because I saw it couldn't bounce and I was having trouble bouncing on Khezu constantly. And almost immediately I fell in love with it. I converted from a LS main to a HH main and its been my primary weapon since. I enjoy other weapons like LS, GL, CB and HBG, but HH is #1. I loved HH in World and the echo notes were a good addition, something to do when all your songs were up. I loved the fluidity of the combos. X always did the left song, forward X always did the lunge, XA always did the backswing etc it was very easy to go from move to move depending on where the monster was or what it was doing or what notes you needed for your songs. But Rise changed all of that. I still love HH but I feel like they gutted it. The playstyle I loved is gone, theres no song management, you dont play differently depending on if your songs are up or not. You just spam X XA A Magnificent Trio. Thats it. That's your entire kit. Instead of wearing your moves and using your whole moveset depending on what you need right now, you just do one thing. All the time. Its actually kinda boring now. Its not bad, its the strongest its ever been right now, but its not the same HH I fell in love with in 4U, Gen and World.
Been using HH singularily since MHP3, FG, 4U, XX, World, and now Rise. Its got to be said, I love what they did with horn in Rise. Also thanks for making this video, it was really nice to watch. Keep it up. Some might say its been dumbed down too much and I agree, but only a masochist would tell you they enjoyed building up a song only to get hit out of their recital and get their ATK Up L eaten. You still have to play your notes to build up your magnificent trio and the weapon still isn't outshining Hammer as the KO king so ultimately its still in a nice place. I like to think of the Rise HH as being a rework+ Valor Style hybrid. But yeah, I do feel a little sad that now there is no imaginary badge of honor that comes with playing HH
As a 4th generation HH enthusiast/master I'm very proud of the improvements in Rise and the respect and awareness that HH is finally receiving and deserves. Doots All Around! 🎸😌🎶🎷 Video is fantastic HH representation!
I'd say that hunting horn is a support weapon the same way that the bow and bowguns are ranged weapons, or the gunlance is a defensive weapon. It's still just as much a weapon as all the others, but it also has support on top of that.
I have always loved the HH and have mained it exclusively since I started playing. I've never been one to Corner Horn. I get my ass all up in that monsters face and go nuts while keeping my buffs up. That's the most fun way to play HH IMO.
After having binged your channel for the last 3 days, I suppose I'm here to stay. Looking forward to your next installment. It's nice to see someone get in depth with the game. Especially for weapons that I don't know, like Hammer or Great Sword.
Hunting Horn, Charge Blade and Switch Axe are top 3 in Rise. All of them extremely satisfying, all have a single wirebug attack that closes distance to the monster with a strong attack at the end of it.
I'll be honest, i'm playing MH4U and barely use the weapon because each time i pick it, i have to relearn the notes' patterns. You have to play songs many times during a hunt to maintain your buffs and you must remember that if you pick that weapon, YOU'll be the priority target for monsters. I also find it annoying the fact you have to play a song a second time to get "the best version of a song." So, to resume how i see this weapon in 4U: it's a complex weapon by which i mean has many notes patterns for you to (re)memorize so you do play *needily* at least *2 differents songs* through entire hunts. Keep in mind you'll have to expect *high aggro from monsters* for using that weapon and *stop fighting* many times to replay the songs. I still use it from time to time but i can't say i'm having a lot of fun each time. The main moments when i use it are when i feel like it and they are rare.
As a HH main even I feel that World's QoL change in displaying songs at the top of the screen was something sorely needed. World removed a lot of fluff that I didn't realize needed change as I had gotten used to it for so long. All I want is the ability to move while playing songs like MHO, something Capcom seems adamant about NOT adding for some damned reason.
HH has always been a weapon that hold a place in my heart, good memories of my friend and I playing 3U together where I'd be giving him horn buffs while he used DS. Also I'd love to see a video on Gunlance, and hear your opinions on the heat gage in generations.
I did a full run with HH in World/Iceborne. Turned out to be one of my favorite weapons next to SnS and Swaxe. Rise HH did a very interesting but neccesary rework imo, "replacing" recital and encore with magnificent trio and infernal melody.
It wasn’t necessary at all imo, I prefer the old style system because they completely oversimplified this new system which I don’t hate at all but I’m glad that we will be able to choose what move set we can use because the new system is for people who didn’t like old HH and while I can respect that the new system is more accessible to and I guess streamlined it feels too much like a different weapon and way more spammy and less strategic because you can just spam the same button twice and the song play instantly and you don’t have to think about what move to use next that much with the new attacks.
@@SuperRADLemon I can understand, the weapon is so much more fluid and aggressive compared to previous titles. The weapon now has actual follow-up attacks, with the flurry and hilt stab removed and new attacks altogether. But yea, the main point of the weapon always has been hitting monsters in the face while finding space for buffing up. I guess the support stigma came from all the 'normal' mmo support classes. I did learned how HH was in games other than GenU and World, so thank you for the history lesson.
@@CloudWind0643 We can choose the attack style? Please inform me on that. Though, I hope it's gonna be MHW style, complete with encore since that's lacking in Rise HH and smoother attacking. Monsters in Rise are even faster than in World so it would be a shame if one of the 2 outclasses the other due to having a completely different playstyle.
Ah hunting horn, the one that got away for me. When I started in mh3u as a noob hunter it was hunting horn that I began my journey with. I eventually dropped it for my true love of the switch axe when I realised I just sucked with it. I've tried since to use it, but it just doesn't suit me, which is a shame because it's a cool weapon I'd love to be able to learn.
Paragraph of hh love incoming: Ive veen a horn main since bascially the start of my mh career in 4u. Its a weapon that is really trying to find its home and that evident in how it drastically changes from game to game, i joke with my friends when new games are announced at how excited i am to relearn my weapon from the ground up just to make me fall in love with it again. Each iteration has good and bad qualities. Focusing on the 2 newest versions i loved stacking songs in world but really hated how long it took to get them all out since while in recital i obviously wasnt doing as much damage. In rise i loved how my attacks were faster and the tri note combo recital was an attack throughout, but the weapon did feel a little dumbed down as a result of the double note equals song and the truple plays them all. I wish we could meet in the middle. Make me cue the songs like in world but let me play them all together in a big flurry (that i cant cancel or dodge out of to make me choose appropriate times to use) if i dont do them one at a time. What i love about the hunting horn is its simple complexity. Its a weapon that at its core wants the player to consider its "audience" (the hunt itself). You must time your recital to avoid getting hit but also be close enough to hit the monster with that powerful recital bonk. When preparing for a hunt you must consider if certain songs will be more valuable than a higher damage number. (Wind pressure negate for daora, stamina consumption down for dual blade users, etc.). Do i think the hunting horn is purely a "support" weapon? No. But i cannot deny that it is the supportive weapon of the series.
As someone who started with Rise on Switch and has gotten into World on PC, I actually prefer worlds. Just speed up the recital waddle a little and you've got my hope for the weapons functionality in Wilds
Give it better motion values to compete with the dps of other weapons. Keep worlds style moveset and speed but with more damage. Would be perfect. Its a massive weapon, it shouldn't out dps hammer or GS but it should come damn close to hammer in dmg per swing.
I tend to play HH through the story/guild missions solo as a personal tradition since I consider it my main. After I start really grinding into the game and doing multiplayer though, I find HH is really well, boring after a time. The weapon shines in a group. Support is misleading, its of course totally possible and effective (though perhaps not as much as others) on its own but its also true that a large amount of its potential is lost if its not being used in a team. I tend to use Hammer solo these days and also branched out to other weapons types starting with 4U. The changes made in Rise are disappointing; I see it as two steps back in the name of simplification and frankly I don't see HH as having been rocket science to begin with. No more performances & encores and several note animation swings are missing. Tbh, its made me lose interest. The buff that I was hoping they would add in Iceborne, let alone World was the ability to play notes while moving freely like in MHO. This was hands down one of the best (and most obvious) additions to grant the weapon and I don't see why its been left exclusive to the Online iteration. Its really something that should have been added far earlier and I'm convinced Capcom is purposefully refusing to implement it at this point.
To be fair I only ever use bow because dragon piercer sounds cool and I have never used it with critical element so it was basically a hunting horn without buffs
After I watched shepard's damage calc video on HH in rise along with the combo chart in that video I have to say HH might not be as unga bunga gorilla as I felt the first run (that's just every weapon now with all the counters, super armour and i-frames lol) and I feel like maining it. I do hope the datamined leaks are legit though. For what I want to see next... well honestly as much as I want to see DBs or LBG, I'd first want to see SnS, mostly because generations onwards it's been getting more and more absurd I feel
I don't think reworking a weapon should be based off of popularity... Not a hunting horn player, but I feel for the hunting horn veterans that are upset about it in Rise
So I didn't read every comment so idk if it was said, but yes, self improvement in rise does also give attack deflection prevention at the same time as movement speed up, reading the hunter notes about the hunting horn says that.
I really don't want to get on the train and use HH in rise but after seeing this and how much fun Cotton has using it I'm having difficulty choosing a different weapon
To summarize how it works in each generation: FU: press R to switch modes, use Recital mode to buff damage for self and others. P3rd/3U/4U: Each individual attack has a specific note attached to it. 4U allows you to do jump attacks, and gains a new A button move for faster notes. GU: Hit the monster to get a double-note. Recite using a full combo of double notes to recieve two buffs at once. IB: Each combo you play goes into a small queue, which can be chosen via button-press and combined during an encore. Iceborne also adds a spin attack and Echo waves. Rise: Gone is the old recital gimmick in favor of more aggressive play. Play two of the same notes to activate a singular buff, and tap ZR for a dodging recital.
Hunting horn main here, in all honesty the only reason I main hunting horn is because when I played Monster Hunter for the first time I saw that I could smash giant monsters with a bagpipe bigger than my character and that concept by itself seemed hilarious to me so I naturally used it. I stayed with it for the depth of the weapon and the buffs I could give my fellow hunters, the high stun capabilities on monsters weak to heavy weapons and stun and the alright dps the weapon could do. I feel like Rise really oversimplified it and made it more of a get-in-and-smack-some-ass-around weapon rather than a serious support weapon, but the changes are a nice breath of fresh air and I will stand by the horn until the day I stop playing monster hunter games.
I'll just say what I've tested myself, regarding self-improvement in Rise. Obviously the movement speed is there, but the mind's eye also makes its return. There's a part on Rathian where I've witnessed other players bounce, and hitting that part with self-improvement yields no such result. One thing you didn't mention, which I tested, was the return, or lack of return, of the attack boost from World. World gave an attack up L song, which did stack on top of the actual attack up L song, just to the HH user upon doing the encore for self-improvement. Unfortunately this is no longer in Rise, but I'm not too sad about that given how much more powerful they made it in almost every other way.
Good vid , just one more thing in Rise self improvement hunting horn isnt the fastest weapon anymore, the new fastest is the demon mode Dual blades..... by a lot
MHP3rd/Generations/Rise having very radical changes to the weapon was mostly because of the director of those games (Go Ichinose) is a big HH player lol

The double note is still in World. It's still forward+B/circle and it makes buffs like ATK Up(L) and HP Increase come out more smoothly. Also fun to just repeat the double swing and LT/L2 when all your buffs are up and unload echo waves on a downed monster.

It just a matter of what support means in you vocabulary at this point.

IMHO, world had the perfect version
I really hope they bring back the og hunting horn and add the rise horn in as some side grade.it makes me so sad that I can’t play og hh in rise
@@Virjunior01 I enjoyed Double cross hunting horn and world, so yeah I mean mainly the more up to date “og” hh
"Behold, my DOOT DROP!"
Today's HH is just:
Note 2 -> Note 2
Note 3 -> Note 3
Tbf Rise/Sunbreak HH was fun at the beginning because it was something new, but grew old pretty quickly.

That said, I've yet to main it in any game - I'm essentially a part-time horner lol
I was VERY surprised when I played it in the Rise demo though. It feels... nice.
@@SuperRADLemon btw, I'm loving your content. I'm about to finish the History of series.
Keep up the great work! 👍

When Hunting Horn was the weird kid in school, then come Rise. He has ascended!
Hunting Horn | Cooler Hunting Horn
As a 4th generation HH enthusiast/master I'm very proud of the improvements in Rise and the respect and awareness that HH is finally receiving and deserves. Doots All Around! 🎸😌🎶🎷 Video is fantastic HH representation!
Happy to see the Gigginox armor and HH! I love them!😭💜
I miss you Gigginox...
The gigginox love has been real
The new HH is very smooth brain. Not really feeling it. Really miss the double note system.
Love to see Great Sword next.
I'd say that hunting horn is a support weapon the same way that the bow and bowguns are ranged weapons, or the gunlance is a defensive weapon. It's still just as much a weapon as all the others, but it also has support on top of that.
Yeah
the hunting horn in rise is actually insane. You can literally smash buttons and you finish the demo quest in at least under 10 minutes.
“Press forward and circle”
Ya, that 3DS circle button we all know and love 😉
I think Rise HH is kinda oversimplified compared to MHGU, bc it has less possible songs per weapon
I'll be honest, i'm playing MH4U and barely use the weapon because each time i pick it, i have to relearn the notes' patterns. You have to play songs many times during a hunt to maintain your buffs and you must remember that if you pick that weapon, YOU'll be the priority target for monsters. I also find it annoying the fact you have to play a song a second time to get "the best version of a song."
So, to resume how i see this weapon in 4U: it's a complex weapon by which i mean has many notes patterns for you to (re)memorize so you do play *needily* at least *2 differents songs* through entire hunts.
It's different for sure. Not completely sure how I feel about it yet.
Remember this is just the demo. I heard there is different silk bind styles so we can't judge it yet.
To be fair I only ever use bow because dragon piercer sounds cool and I have never used it with critical element so it was basically a hunting horn without buffs
... And now it has buffs.
As an outspoken HH main this video was a massive tease. There were so many Diablos in the clip and sonic waves wasn't played ONCE.
I promise they were used, I just didn't have em in the final footage LOL! I never realized how important it was to HH mains to see
After I watched shepard's damage calc video on HH in rise along with the combo chart in that video I have to say HH might not be as unga bunga gorilla as I felt the first run (that's just every weapon now with all the counters, super armour and i-frames lol) and I feel like maining it.
Thanks for this
Hunting Horn finally getting the love it deserves
So the history of the Hunting Horn is the history of identity crisis, got it
' You simply play notes to apply buffs ' *que every monster shitting their pants in fear of doots*
I really don't want to get on the train and use HH in rise but after seeing this and how much fun Cotton has using it I'm having difficulty choosing a different weapon
Long Sword, of course
To summarize how it works in each generation:
FU: press R to switch modes, use Recital mode to buff damage for self and others.
Man i want old hh back
Don't disrespect the hunting horn my man
Don't disrespect LS mains. We can't read.
@@SuperRADLemonThen how can you read anime subtitles then
@@coffeebreak9148 just gotta learn Japanese
What an underrated Channel! Another superb video 👌
Thanks!
Great video! I believe only thing missing was the mentioning of shockwaves in World with HH.
You are right!
Oh and i think its better to cover the weapons who are part of the series the longest first. Like the greatsword,SnS,hammer etc.
Def wanna cover them sooner rather than later
SNS: it started as the Tutorial weapon and still is. The end

I love these weapon history videos, awesome work as always ❤
Thanks!
The hunting horn from the demo deals like 2/3 of the damage the raging brachy glaive does in iceborne (without skills), thats crazy
I loved the MH Story Videos. But the Wepon ones are even better! Keep up the great work.
Just discovered your channel about a week ago and love it dude then I was like hell yeah my boy posted
I really hope they keep the rise style hunting horn and bring it to the future games like wilds etc would be awesome
Fantastic video, I'm excited to see you cover the rest of the weapons ;)
Great vid on HH! For weapon suggestions, I think it would be really cool to see Lance or Charge Blade
Good vid , just one more thing in Rise self improvement hunting horn isnt the fastest weapon anymore, the new fastest is the demon mode Dual blades..... by a lot
I enjoy gen 2 HH, while in recital mode, I can dance and just time my hits
Alright since nobody asked last time, you should definitely do a bow video. It’s one of my favorite weapons after charge blade
It'll happen for sure!
Hunting horn must have been a favorite on the development team with all these changes and improvements
MHP3rd/Generations/Rise having very radical changes to the weapon was mostly because of the director of those games (Go Ichinose) is a big HH player lol
Yeah hunting horn history I'm hunting horn main saying the how it was before 3 ultimate is amazing.
I love this series! When you do the ranged weapons can you please talk about how hard it is to get ammo or shot types, because I know that has changed a lot over the years
Absolutely
I also want to learn the reasons they got rid of the medium bow gun. I can guess but I love learning the history behind they're decisions 🙂.
