correction: in rise, the damage multipliers for landing up to 3 advancing slashes applies to every single aerial attack, not just diving wyvern. also note, a semi important part of the glaive's toolkit that was missing in world, but is back in rise, is the ability to recall your kinsect even while it's on your arm, which can cancel out of the recovery of certain attacks, similar to rolling, but without the stamina cost, and you can walk to precisely reposition/evade, or you can just stand in place.

Not only the wyvern dive, but the more you keep attacking in midair it charges the attacks and they get stronger, reseting when you land on the ground. And also when you do the parry with the Advancing Round Slash it already count as one charge to make the attacks stronger. I like your videos Rad, I am waiting for the Gunlance one.
Some of the cool things I think you should have mentioned: in 4U you didn’t just get rocksteady but also high grade earplugs, this was reduced to regular earplugs in all subsequent games, which made insect glaive even better for mounting since most monsters roar during a mount. Aerial style in GU is one of the most highly mobile style weapon combos in the game, allowing a vault through the air that travels far enough to keep up with most fast monsters, one of the most unique aerial styles because or that. Valor style and aerial style together feel very similar to what world/iceborne glaive feel like, valor has the incredibly active kinsect and aerial has the high air mobility.
4U was still normal Earplugs. You can still be affected by Rajang's roar when mounted, Akantor, Gogmazios, etc. Also, the earplugs bonus you get from IG didn't stack with the one from your skills, meaning that you still had to build all 15 points for HG Earplugs.

The stamina bar for kinsects was introduced in Generations, not in World. And, folks, never feed your Kinsects more than a few heavy jellies in GU. Speed and Attack are so much more useful, especially Speed.
@@SuperRADLemon Oh, didn't mean to insult you, I didn't even pay attention to the footage to be honest. But you generally talk about the meta in these videos, so I just wanted to have said this.

When I first saw the insect glaive in mh4u I went "BUG!!! I LOVE BUGS!!!" and mained that weapon for a little while, later realizing it just wasn't my thing
3:15 This is only correct from World onwards, as the infinite combo was nerfed to the ground coming from Gen. In any other title, namely 4, 4U, Gen and GenU the infinite combo is the way to play, with the backflip and the fronflip beeing intended as chasing and/or repositioning tools. A major aspect of the weapon in those 4 titles is the incredible precision you have with its jabs and motions, and doing the frontflip usually destroys your positioning, which goes against the spirit of the weapon itself. Add to that that the glaive, using the infinite combo over the finisher, attacks fast enough to excell as a status/element weapon, while still retaining high enough motionvalues to make use of its raw. That aspect makes the weapon incredibly versatile, something which was lost in World as the focus was changed from infinite comboing to the finisher combo you described, making it way more cumbersome to play. One more thing i should add is that your way to play is also valid if you are using valor style, but thats because those moves steer the kinsect to do stuff.
If I remember correctly in 4U one of the most popular final form kinsects was a max speed kinsect which had the effect that doubled your triple buff duration to 2 minutes, and I dont know when but green buff I believe was removed at some point as I have never seen it in rise.
When you were showing your Twitch footage at 26:16 I had no idea I was that close to you when Mizutsune carted you, like how did it miss me but not you. But great video, makes me want to try the Insect Glaive in Rise!
I think it needs to be said: No Insect Glaive user worth his or her salt will ever attack without red. Red buff not only changes the attack animation into much more potent and effective ones, it also raises the motionvalues and attack power (i think). Of course, you can attack without Redbuff, but that is like trying to cut meat with a dull knife: It gets the job done, but it takes longer and its a complete mess in the end. Thats why Speed type Kinsects are so good: They allow for much smoother buff collection, allowing one to keep the Red buff going and to quickly reapply it once it drops.
Absolutely love the insect glaive. It was my main in 4U which was my first MH game and later in generations along with bow. tho I didn't use it much in world
Wait, u missed something. JASS has now been limited to 3. After the 3rd one u still do a vaulting dance, but can no longer do JASS. Instead u have to choose between Helicopter slash or diving wyvern. Diving Wyvern is also not a direct replacement of Descending Thrust. While DT has more mobility (retained momentum when attacking & fast cancel) and more combo potential (goes into tornado slash), DW is a combo ending attack, with bad combo potential (can't tornado slash) and low mobility (stops all momentum and long end animation). Don't know why they had to remove DT, but DW shouldn't be thought as it's replacement.
Monsters that have specific breaks that are hard to get to other than Bow Guns and the bow. The Kinsect are great for it. Shara Ishvalda was one of those monsters where its hard to get a head break.
Only thing I think you might have left out is in world. When you air boost into a vine or rope wall you stab the glave into the wall and can jump off or jump up the wall.
I found the charge attack for the kinsect super useful in the earlier installments where it's in to get my bug there faster when I didn't have a fast bug
People don't understand the Kinsect. At worst, they forget it exists. More often, they'll consider it another tool for damage and that's also failing to see it. If you are running a raw DPS on your glaive, then use your kinsect to compliment your team. It provides utility. If my teammate is running paralysis, poison, or blast and I'm not, then I'll swap my kinsect to make their efforts more powerful. It's part of a team.
With Rise the entire Kinsect Nurturing System is gone in favor of buying them already done, which is interesting to say at least since we have three different types to fit any gameplay.
@@lordchinchin8924 Yeah Aerial Glaive was really great because you didn't really lose anything through the style but also gained even more aerial mobility including the variation of Aerial slash we saw in world and rise.
I wanted to make a few distinctions. I don't think you pointed this out, but in GU you actually can't always bring your kinsect with you to another Glaive. This is because, for some reason, if the Glaive started with a Blunt Kinsect it can't use a Cutting Kinsect, and vise versa. As for Valor, I'm not a meta player but I assumed most people used Bug Majeure as the forward leaping slashes made the Kinsect do a fully charged attack, meaning you are dealing a bunch of Kinsect damage with just one attack. You also forgot to mention Kinsect Skills. These were expanded upon in GU so I'll use that game rather than 4U. In a basic sense, your Kinsect would give you free skills! They were actually tied to extracts and included skills like Minds Eye, HG Earplugs, and even a new skill called Extract Spread (though like double up+ or triple up+ it was exclusive to the Kinsect itself) which allowed you to give weaker versions of your extracts to other teammates when you get yours.
@@SuperRADLemon No problem! I was introduced to the series with 4u so Insect Glaive has been my go-to weapon for a while now. You also gave me some important information. I didn't know Support Kinsects fought with you. This was probably the biggest feature I wanted to return, ever since I touched Valor style. I know which Kinsect I'm using from here on out.
You didn't mention that in World, the red buff changes both of your grounded and aerial attacks and have different animations. Not sure about previous games.
Actually, Silkbind Vault counts towards the damage multiplier while airborne. It also launches at the perfect angle and velocity to let that bitch rip with a normal aerial X attack, landing a billion hits on the larger monsters. Easily procs statuses or inflicting a lot of elemental damage very quickly.
Specifically for GU: Guild and Valor are both far better than any other style, since loosing the XXA infinite means loosing a lot of damage. The Vault is completely useless and only really used for vault canceling roars. Kinsects have extract and kinsect skills which are extremely important due to how much of an impact they have on your damage output specifically on Grancathar/Bullshroud giving you free 30% affinity and minds eye on white or Foliacath/Fleetflammer giving 30% crit on white and tremor rez on orange. White + orange on any kinsect also grants earplugs except on those that give you HGE on orange, and white on it's own greatly increases your walk speed.
The only problem I have with recall kinsect is that it takes you out of combat. If it were to thrust me upwards instead of backwards, I could go on the offensive immediately after I dodged a move with just aerial movement or diving wyvern. To me this would really sell the aerial concept for the weapon.
if i remember right it was possible to lock yourself out of upgrades in 4 and 4U if you didn't pay attention to your kinsect's stats since you could only feed it so much before needing to level up. this "feature" was removed in Gen since the kinsect and the glaive could be upgraded separately. also in 4U, the game i started with, i picked IG first because it was the only starter weapon to have green sharpness and i had no idea how busted it was. je suis monte.
I honestly never saw any IG users I hunted with use Valor style. Most I saw were Aerial and Guild. IG in Aerial Style was just nutty. Me with my CB just watching as a friend of mine does aerial combat with a Rathalos, and winning as the beast comes tumbling down.
insect glaive is definitelly the rare occassion in monster hunter where a weapon its very versatile depending on how much you wanna specialize with it and on what specifically in GU, let me explain, in GU, many people would play the styles mentioned in this video, they are powerful and low skill ceiling, but if you really enjoy ludicrous movility and practice enough your kinsect gatherings so you can do them manually... aerial insect glaive was the way to go. (*but why you should go aerial style with a weapon that already aerial it doesnt makes sense*) well, aerial insect glaive adds more speed to vaults and adds a forward vault AND kick vault on top off keeping the bread and butter infinite combo, so if you dont mind gathering the juices yourself and with aerial you can actually go with just having red juice you can go aerial with absolute readiness for a extremelly aggressive playstyle that can rival the dual blades, not meta damage, but once again, so aggressive and fast it was just a blast to play
correction: in rise, the damage multipliers for landing up to 3 advancing slashes applies to every single aerial attack, not just diving wyvern.

insect glaive is definitelly the rare occassion in monster hunter where a weapon its very versatile depending on how much you wanna specialize with it and on what specifically in GU, let me explain, in GU, many people would play the styles mentioned in this video, they are powerful and low skill ceiling, but if you really enjoy ludicrous movility and practice enough your kinsect gatherings so you can do them manually... aerial insect glaive was the way to go.
Insect glaive was busted , monster not accumulating mounting resistance meant mounting monsters like 5-6 times in a hunt
