85 and Barb is a WONDERFUL woman. Sweet as all get out. Their great friends Doug (Davidson) and Cindy (Douggie's wife) are really great people too. Cindy came out to give me a hug and comfort me having a very bad hour-long panic attack while waiting on a hip-high, glass-sided bridge 5 floors high. That sounds like a nice view for normal people. But for ones like me with a phobia of heights, it was a NIGHTMARE that caused a very ugly hour long crying panic attack. Cindy spotted me (DD and I 1st in line) and came out the door to comfort me.A VERY sweet woman, just LOVE her. Funnily enough the following 3 cruises DD and I were remembered by the Regular super fans that went on all of those with us. Nobody had a problem with us standing back off the bridge. Well after I literally ran down a 6 ft 10 in security guy that had waved us on the second year not realizing that I was the crazy cryer from the previous year. As soon as my old large-bodied Deaf height phobia self gets on that thing it is a Close eys, hold the sides and rush to the door. ) My DD was trying to tell him, "You CAN"T stop her, you can't stop her" as I was rushing him. I get to just inside the door. I had NO interest in causing problems, I was not wanting to rush the talent before time. I just needed OFF that high bridge. Just inside the door, backed up to it so they could get the story from my hearing DD, they understood then what happened and I was not a threat. They also knew that there is a reason (serious reason) that the bridge is kept clear of people DD and I get in line 1st for our group waiting for picks with Rick and others. We wait, explaining to the ones gathering behind us and they (fellow fans) knew us by then, they had seen us the previous years and I brighly dye my hair multiple bright colors (blue, green, yellow, red, and black) which makes the 2 of us VERY recognizable. Rick Springfield has some of the most understanding and wonderful fans on those 4 cruises. I thank every one of those understand =ing people who made the cruises such fun for my daughter and I.

It was supposed to be creepy. When Faith Evans and P. Diddy did a remake and changed the line to "I'll be missing you" they missed the whole point of the song. It wasn't a love song. It was about a creepy controlling guy.

@Steve Klemetti I agree. For the time, it raised no eyebrows. It's today's "woke" culture that makes everything out to be much more sinister than it was ever meant to be. Why did no one think it was creepy back then ??? Because we had brains back then ... brains that were not indoctrinated to BS thoughts. Just look at how the "woke" (we'll leave it at that) culture is supposed to be so inclusive, yet is trying to cancel everything anyone else does (that doesn't fall in-step with their weird thinking), all the while, doing the very things they are trying to cancel, right out in public.

What I resent is the erasure of men's feelings. No matter how inappropriate, the pain is still very real. It doesn't help when you make a career out of writing about your broken heart, and your producers keep telling you, "Stop writing about that. Nobody cares." @@TimedRevolver From the man's own lips:
Rick: "I don't know her name. It was a brief relationship I had when I was making stained glass for a while. I was going to a stained glass class in Pasadena, and I met this guy and his girlfriend. I was completely turned on to his girlfriend, but she was just not interested. So I had a lot of sexual angst, and I went home and wrote a song about it. Then about four months later I stopped going to the class and lost contact with them. The only thing I remember is his name was Gary, so I changed the name, because 'Gary' didn't sing very well."
He didn't even know either of them very well at all and he really didn't love her, as I said. He was infatuated and never tried to do anything about it. It was and still is a common thing ... no different than a teenage girl that has a crush on her teen idol.
We all want things we don't have or can't have, but you can't or at least shouldn't convict someone over thoughts and/or desire, or you'd have to lock everyone up. Give it a rest, will ya ???

According to Rick "Jessie" was a fellow student he knew, It wasn't that he wanted to steal her away, just that he wanted to find a girlfriend like her. Claimed he had no luck with women when he was younger. Names of course were changed and he didn't even know the girl's name. BTW the solo was done by Neil Giraldo who is Pat Benatar's guitarist/husband.

"Jessie's Girl", by Rick Springfield, is one of the best Contemporary Rock recordings of the latter part of the 20th Century. The song is well-written, and the guitar solo by Neil Giraldo (the lead guitarist (and husband) for Pat Benetar) is spectacular. I have seen Giraldo's guitar that he used for the recording session for this song at Facebook. He has placed magic marker marks near the knobs of the guitar, so that he would remember how to replicate the sound he got out of that guitar on that historic day in the recording studio.

    Notice:
Repeated "Where can I find a woman like that?"
So he accepts that Jessie's girl loves Jessie, not him. He is just feeling desire, jealous and frustrated and wishing for someone of that quality to love him like Jessie's girl loves Jessie. All these feelings he can't control, because feelings themselves are not choices. He's sharing them with us like with his own mind.
In real life he had a friend named Gary and he and Gary and Gary's girlfriend were taking a stained glass class. And he caught a serious case of lust. But she wasn't introduced to him and he wasn't about to ask, so he never even knew her name.
If he were the kind of guy to actually go after his friend's girlfriend, he would have found a way. He never did.
Feelings don't answer to right or wrong, it"s what you DO with them.
The apostle Paul says that Christ "was in every point tempted like as we are, yet without sin." - Hebrews 4:15.
    Therefore, temptation is NOT sin.
Rick is describing his feelings around a temptation. That is all.
Have y'all never ever had a desire that you realized was wrong so you didn't go any further? Would you think it right if someone condemned you just for feeling that?
Now can we just mention the awesome catchy riffing in this song??

Nope, no creeper vibes. He wished that he had his friends girlfriend but he's not stalking her or anything. The part you really reacted to was him looking at himself in the mirror wondering why she didn't want him instead of his friend. His smashing the mirror is him reacting to the fact that he's not good enough for her. It makes sense when you realize that Rick Springfield himself has fought a lifelong battle with sometimes debilitating depression. He's been married since the early 80's to his wife Barbara. I met him once (in 2001) after a concert and he was very kind.
