    Former SAW gunner here. I know a single point sling on a SAW was not practical, but the two point sling was such a pain in the ass during firefights. With my backpack, and gear, and the ballistic vest, I was constantly fumbling around to get that damn thing up and firing.
    Didn't help that I'm 5'5" and 150 lbs. But the new guy in my infantry platoon always got the SAW. Loved firing it, hated the logistics.

    I carried an AK47 in Uruzgan, Afghanistan with a single point sling that I fashioned from a parachute strap. It gave me the flexibility to walk hands free, quickly be on target, and transition to another weapon platform. It was faster and less cumbersome than a two point sling. From a practical standpoint, I prefer a single point sling. Regardless of whichever you choose, it is important to practice with it to build up your muscle memory.

    Also... this instructor is an excellent speaker. He did not begin any of his sentences with that most grating pig-like utterance, "Uuuuuuhhhh..." I use the Magpul where I can change from one point to two points. I also have VTAC slings on my other rifles. For me it's about having multiple tools in your bag, training on all that you have. As mission requirements dictate the situation. Just my opinion

      Yep. I have Blueforce and Magpul slings with the sliding sections to cinch down the slings. Magpul always seems to use codes to designate the slings that are difficult to remember. Did you buy the sling that way or get the adaptor piece to convert it? If you bought it that way do you recall designator code?

      Depends on the firearm and usage. For my rifle it's an army style 2 point sling (retro AR), the shotgun, on the other hand...
      I'm training myself in a single point on a stockless shotgun (literally don't have the room to maneuver a full stock in my tiny ass apartment). The point of the sling is recoil control and assisting the "push/pull" method as well as weapon retention. This allows for an extra point to brace against recoil. (I would just use a pistol, but I actually did pretty good on the neighbor lottery...)
      For general use I will never disagree with your point. For 90% of civilian usage the classic is perfection. Just make sure to really examine your intended usage before you decide on what you're going to do, make sure you train well.

    I have to say the two point sling is actually way more versatile than G & T goes into. Check the "Ranger Rick" books for examples. The author is a lifetime vet w combat experience and the Ranger tab. His books are recommended reading for U.S. troops (at least until I cycled out, but much of his advise is still valid) and are (were?) readily available in base PX's across America.

  • @cameronoquinn94
    @cameronoquinn94 5 років тому +5

    All a matter of preference, there is no "come one, be all" for slings. Whatever makes you feel comfortable to complete whatever mission is. Be it the range, home defense, etc...
    This is a good comparison of the two to help make an educated decision. Go to your local range and try them out. Ask if you can shoot with it equipped. Then buy the one that works best for you.

    • @GunsandTactics
      @GunsandTactics  5 років тому +2

      Preference is certainly part of it. But in reality I can’t think of a lot of pros to the single point for those that actually work with a rifle. Especially when he two point can do everything a single point can, but the single point falls far far short.

We used 2-point slings back in the Navy for watch standing and I never really liked them, but I hadn't given much thought to how useful they actually are as opposed to the single-points. 2-point sling for tactical/combat rifle yes that seems like the way to go. But what about 1-point vs 2-point sling for tactical/combat "pump" shotgun? There's a lot of issues with 2-point slinging a tactical pump shotgun, primarily with clearance issues with cycling the action & reloading in high stress life & death situations & even front attachment points obstructing weapon light function if using light without a pressure switch so as to be able to mount light on opposite side of front attachment point. Single point slinging tactical "pump" shotguns have none of these issues/drawbacks. Can you please speak on this or even better, make another video just like this one comparing pros & cons of 1-point vs 2-point slings for tactical "pump" shotguns specifically?

    I like Vickers that attach to my LWRC DI. It attaches to the hole in the stock and have it on the side opposite if the ejection port. It attaches to the back side of the hand hold(behind the hand hold which also has hole for a quick mount. And you have a pull that you can tighten it up. Some slings are not comfortable and will hit you in the "stones" and can ruin your day.

    To be honest I've been useing two point slings all of my adult life. From my time in the military to my time as a law enforcement officer and as a federal law enforcement officer. And it has always worked for me. But a one point sling on a mp5 is probably a better choice. And that's because of the length of the weapon, and it's compact size. I've also used two point slings on 12guage shotguns, and they have always worked for me. Basically any sling is basically to keep a weapon attached to the body for quick access when needed. And in my opinion the simpler the better. And I actually don't have any objections to three point slings. They are good for the mp5 and ar9 pistols, but basically it's personal preference and needs. But for personal protection needs I favor the kiss method, which simply means keep it simple stupid. And during the stress of any armed situation simplicity is best. But that's just my opinion.

Sling wrapped around your mag? Bolt lock, reload quickly, ready, go ....... Stop the madness. Bend over to treat a casualty then get the weapon back into action. Transition to your pistol and move out quickly. All that wrap stuff is range BS.

    I ended up with more questions than answers, sorry. My regular AR's, I use a two point sling. The AR 300 aac pistol I finished, I'm just clueless on the best....

      2 point is literally trash unless you have a huge ass rifle. all of the issues people complain about are solved by the techniques in the video joseph shared.

      David Nunez That video is about the most uneducated, range only video on youtube. All that wrap nonsense is range theatrics. Do a transition drill and move out quickly with a single point. Nothing but smashing you all over the place. No hand free to wrap anything. Rifle on your back carrying a casualty at the head and the muzzle is in the casualty’s face. Two point sling lets you carry muzzle up or down without wrapping anything. Wrap the mag? Please! Bolt lock, hurry up and reload, ready..... go. There is a reason people with real experience use adjustable two point slings. Bend over to treat a casualty or put cuffs on someone. Are you going to put the gun on your back or do you want it up front to use in extremis? I mean its truly comical that people cite that video as an example. Total range only BS.

    I use a single point, qs far qs the stowing away your rifle, i wrap the wide thqt goes under my arm over the mag well, and it basically creates a 2 point, same is i need to go hands on and have the rifle flush against me, while you sinch down the sling, i wrap, it, same amount of time spend

    Can you use an old leather guitar strap for a two-point sling? Or would that lead to a self-correcting error? 🤣

    two-point sling all day for the ability to wrap around your arm as you would a loop sling. Single-poiny sling is just a bit comfier especially if you have to take it on and off a lot with a flak on.

    Well done video. Answered almost all my questions. The only one I have left is which is better for "aggressor retention"?

    • @GunsandTactics
      @GunsandTactics  2 роки тому

      That’s a whole separate topic in a way. When I’ve done force on force and combative straining the sling changes things as you are attached to a really large handle for someone to grab and pull you around.
