  • Dave shows you some tips and hacks to run your 2 point sling like a pro. It is no secret that Dave's preference is the 2 point but after watching this video you can understand why. Not only does it secure and retain your rifle, but it can also be used as a hasty support sling, on barricades and objects. These lessons were learned at various rifle classes, sniper classes, matched and Dave's experience using a patrol rifle over the last two decades.

I've tried all diffrent types of slings over the years. The one sling I now use is the WPS Sling with Magpul QD Cups . I absolutely love not having any adjustments. I didnt think I was going to like it but I ran it at 4 2Gun matches . It's definitely my go too SLING and it works best for my application.
HSP D3 , VCAS 221 or Proctor Sling was my go too for a lot of year.

Thanks for elaborating on on this more after the 2 vs 1 point video. After playing around with setup on my DDM4 PDW 300blk, which is a very short 7" barrel, I find that attaching to the QD on the castle nut and the QD on the rail, I get quite a bit of mobility with a 2 point connection. There is certainly more freedom of movement with just a single point on the castle, but the drawback is that there is way too much movement when at rest.

Good job on this video. I've tried different ways of rigging the sling, but being a bass and guitar player of twenty years, I found that the same way im used to wearing my guitars on stage or in practice worked just as well with my AR. Yes, I did put a guitar strap on it at first, but the new rifle strap has now taken its place. (Although I may have to try the AR sling on one of the guitars!) Thanks again for a great video. God bless.

The problem with not having the sling farther towards the muzzle is balance. Having the sling closer to the magwell unbalances the gun when sinched in. And tou can still put tension on the sling when it is out towards the barrel, just a little different technique. To each their own.

Switching shoulder when shooting from behind cover (a wall, building, whatever) is the most common use I see of switching shoulders. And it is fairly common actually. Not everyone does it but I've definitely seen people do it in Iraq and have done it myself. Also I've seen it on police body cams.

I prefer 2 point. You did leave out another large window of opportunity. Keep the forward qd in front of the magwell as you have it, move the sling qd from the butt stock to the castle nut qd position. This creates the movement ability while retaining two point advantages.

Been saying this for years 1 points have their place, 2 points have their place... Thinking that one is just "better" than the other is mostly ignorant. Like all things in life, it really just depends. I am generally running my rifle as a 2 point but my sling has a qd point on the sling so I can go from a 2point to a 1point very quickly (Magpul ms4, one of haleys slings also has it... Not the cheaper one). While YOU might not use it there are very good reasons for it, but it's (generally) more of an advanced and niche use case. Not to sound like I'm talking down or anything but going from a 2 point to a 1 point for some better cqb needs is a very real thing that is actually used by people. Will you use it? probably not. And for most people, a 2point is all they will ever use and ever need to use. Most people won't need to go to a 1point for cqb needs. And if they do, they're probably gonna wind up dead because doing cqb is mostly stupid unless you're with a team that trains together. SO. Once again... Llike most things in life it all just kinda depends. Depends on you and who you're with, what youre doing, whats going on, where youre at, your skills, etc.

In a home defense rifle, it really doesn't matter, but simple is best. If it is a duty rifle, a single point sling is not a great idea. If you need to go to your pistol or need to just free your hands for whatever reason, the rifle becomes a floppy mess and a liability. Two point is the way to go in my experience for almost all of the situations it is used for. Three point is good for certain missions, but it's complexity is a detractor to it's overall usefulness.

Switched all my slings to T.rex Arms slings which are way more comfortable, cheaper, and come in all my favorite flavors. If you can shoot 100% the same from both shoulders and at a high level then ok, but fact is 99.9% OF people can't. Switching shoulders has been overrated for years and used ad a gimmick. Master your fundamentals with the gun and your tactics.

Of course ambidextrous shooting is not realistic because everyone refuses to do it. That doesn't change the fact that not switching shoulders before you emerge from cover to the left exposes the rest of your body before the bore of your barrel comes on target. And on the flipside if a right handed opponent appears from your right side of his cover without switching shoulders, he is exposed to you for quite a while before he can put rounds into you.

@@GunsandTactics for the same reason why some people don't put the safety on before lowering their muzzle, they think it takes too much time. Right?

Not exactly. I will add it to the list to make a video about this topic as well as switching hands while shooting a handgun, both just aren’t realistic.

@@GunsandTactics if you demonstrate some perspectives on camera that should make for an interesting video. Although I'd have liked an answer in comment form instead of waiting for a video.

2 point, and never not 2 point!

Two-points. There are no situations in which I'd find myself needing a single-point sling that I can't just swim out of a two-point sling or change the QD point.

Show me some videos of people doing it in real life? I get it we all train that way but any OIS or combat footage I haven’t seen it. Not saying it’s impossibly or doesn’t have its place but in stress all I see is dudes keeping their rifle shouldered on primary side
