Been doing this forever. If you need "quick detach," just stick a plastic snap hook on the end so you can clip in and out of the paracord. Sometimes you gotta step away from the gear market and ask whether the fancy stuff is actually solving a problem.

We did something very similar late 80s early 90s when I was in Vicenza on our A2s. We would wrap the butt in hundred mph tape as well to keep 550 cord more secure. As long as it was returned to the arms room the way it should, it was all good.

This is one of the best sling videos I have ever seen! We have collectively come so far from the basics of sling use that a basic sling now seems revolutionary. In my over 3 decades of military and law enforcement experience I have experimented with just about every type of sling setup in existence. What I ultimately realized was by far the best setup (for me) is a simple two-point sling. depending on the rig, I either strap it straight onto the rifle, similar to the rig you are demonstrating, or I use QD's with a couple different points mounted to the rail for in-field options. I know this opinion is not popular with the tacticool crowd, but IMHO, the best sling out there for the money today is the Magpul RLS...IF you actually use it properly. Be safe, brutha!

Good stuff, I've been using paracord for a long time as well. Never liked the QD studs, they rattle and pop out of the sockets when they get snagged.

Great video, I use the QD because I make my slings out of 550 para cord. Never know when you need some cord in the woods.

Damn-it! Why didn't I think of that? Great video Reid. I love it. I have plenty of the 550 around the house. I use it on my vehicles, on my Ham Radio Grear, and always carry some hunting. Now I have a way to hook up that damn AR that nothing seemed to work on. Thanks Again.

I have always used tubular nylon…normally 1”. But I have used 550 if I didn’t have tubular nylon available. It is whatever works. Improvise, adapt, and overcome! Plus, it’s a lot more inexpensive this way. You can make your own sling out of tubular nylon!

Great advice, I feel it is safer than quick detach.

Paracord works pretty good! I do prefer to use HK clips on the end of the sling though, just so I can easily remove it if need be.
