    I've been doing my screen today with cirium oxide. I went across the whole screen and cleaned the stuff off. The scratches were still there. So I thought, I probably need to do it with a bit more pressure on the pad. (I was being careful the first time round). After I tried with my pressure I was still left with these scratches. My scratches appear to be shallower than the ones in this video. Anyone know what I might be doing wrong? How long are you supposed to keep at it for?

    • @marcelft
      @marcelft Рік тому +1

      Naw...you make a claim with insurance, then wait and see your insurance rates go up because of a claim and you wind up spending more money than if you just bought a windshield yourself. This happened to me when I made a claim on a broken windshield due to a rock hitting it. If I had known my rates would have gone up so much I would have just paid to have it done myself.

  • @JW-so4fc
    @JW-so4fc 7 років тому +2

    Why use the edge of the polishing head? How do you maintain a even surface and one that would be gouged due to the pressure changes in the head? You can clearly see the technician wandering in and out over the scratch. Also, you need to feather in the areas around the scratch? Or, does the compound simply round off the edges of the scratch...leaving the valley of the scratch intact? We are not seeing the whole process...this must have taken a lot longer with more techniques applied.

    • @DeltaKits
      @DeltaKits  7 років тому +10

      Good questions and comments! I'll do my best to answer them: Using the edge of the dense felt polishing head serves two purposes. 1) It is much easier to control. If you try to use the leading surface of the polishing head you will find it almost impossible to control. 2) Using the edge of the wheel allows you to apply more pressure to a narrow area and gouging is not an issue as the cerium oxide Delta Kits uses is very high quality and minimally abrasive. If you try buff out too wide of an area the process will take considerably longer and it is not necessary for the desired results.
      You maintain an even surface by keeping the polishing head rotating across the scratch while moving it back and forth along the scratch. By doing so you are constantly feathering the edges of the scratch. Keep in mind that unlike a sanding process there is almost no material (glass) being removed and we only use this process to remove light scratches. If using this process for a deep scratch you will improve the cosmetic appearance considerably but some of the valley of the scratch may remain. If you sand or grind out a deep scratch and then polish it you have to use multiple grits and pay much more attention to feathering. Even then you will often end up with a "warped" effect after a deep scratch has been completely removed which is why we only recommend this process for removing fine scratches.
      The technique is the same regardless of the length of the scratch. It can take a considerable amount of time to remove a long scratch but the technique is the same regardless of the length so we shortened the video to only show the basic process for scratch removal using the Delta Kits 25010 polishing head and 25005 polishing compound. As a general rule of thumb it takes an experienced technician approximately 3-5 minutes per inch to completely remove a light scratch but of course the time varies considerably depending on the depth of the scratch and the technician's experience. In this instance the scratch was successfully removed in about 20 minutes.
      Hope this helps and let us know if you have any follow-up!

      Won't work for this. Need, heat from the speed and pressure from the buffer to polish hard surfaces like auto windshield glass. BE CAREFUL! American windshields are layered for obvious safety reasons. You'll ruin it if you make it too warm/hot. For most people replacement is the best way. If you refinish or replace the glass always apply protection/sealant and change the wipers regularly to prevent future issues.
