- Today, we show you how to remove scratches from glass and mirrors using 4 different and simple techniques.
► DISCLAIMER
Always make sure you operate in a safe and secure manner.
Glass can easily be scratched - also during the repair process - so proceed with caution (and at own risks) respecting the following best practices / instructions.
► INSTRUCTIONS
* Clean and dry the complete area around the scratch with a CLEAN soft cloth (no rough fabric, no paper towel)
* Take a second CLEAN soft cloth (I like microfiber cloth for this). CLEAN is important, since any dirt on the cloth can scratch the glass!
* Where possible, lay your glass on a flat non-slip, non-scratching surface. I’m using here a rubber mat.
* Dab a bit of product (not too much since too much product may cause more scratches)
* Don't apply too much pressure
* Rub in small circular motion
* Stop regularly to check progress
* Wipe off / rinse to check the results
The products we will be using have abrasive properties and will help polishing the glass to a flat state, removing the scratch.
CAUTION: Overdo it and you may create more scratches (especially when working with metal polish or steel wool)
► YOU WILL NEED
The products used in the video are:
1) White Toothpaste: It has to be white (non-gel) toothpaste. If it contains baking soda, this is a plus. Apply using above recommendations.
2) (Homemade) scratch remover: Mix 2 equal parts of baking soda and water. Apply using above recommendations.
3) Metal cleaner / polish / car polish: Polish that work quickest has cerium oxide in the ingredients. Apply just a bit as rubbing too much at a time may create extra scratches. Work according to above recommendations.
4) #0000 steel wool: Also works for mirrors. Make sure the #0000 steel wool is in perfect condition (no rust, no imperfections or you could be creating once again more scratches). Work according to above recommendations.
► HELP! The scratch is still present after using the 4 methods...
Next step is really to look at commercial / professional polishing / buffing products. Those are:
- Jeweller's Rouge
- Cerium Oxide glass repair kit
Note that over-polishing can create weakness in the glass and sometimes the best solution may simply be replacement of the damaged part.

Make sure to watch the disclaimer and only try this if you're fine with the risk of making the damage worse. I repair scratched glass for a living and see failed DIY attempts that end up requiring a professional to come fix. Be careful!
Indeed!

Hello what do you recomend for removing a scratch in a piece of artglass ?
Was very sceptical of the claims here. And rightly so. NONE of them work of course. Even superficial scratches remain after trying ALL the methods indicated.
Hi so which ome is best for vanity mirror?
I’m 63 do you think I will die before I polish the scratches out
Hi, thanks for your video, what kind of light you use to see the scratches?
Will this work on car glass? I have a good scratch on my rear window
Please help me. I have a 2mm thick glass beaker with some scratches on outer side. I am going to do laser experiment on it and want to make it clear. Any suggestion?
Usually, these miracle fixes on internet NEVER work. Dang! Yours did! Arm and Hammer toothpaste with baking soda got rid of some horrible scratches in some almost new windows. You're a life saver! Thanks so much! :)
Good to hear it helped!

I've tried everything except arm and Hammer toothpaste with baking soda and none of them have worked I will try it next but I don't expect results
@@TheBlaineFindley fid u try it with AH
I hope this works. Ruined my new windows 😮💨
Could any of these methods work on a drinking glass? I have a Guinness embossed one with a few scratches on the inside, so I would like to still use and display it rather than discard it.
Is this also applicable to car windshield ?
i noticed the car wax but you also showed metal polish. Is it it 1:1 on these both?
Yes, but do not overdo it or you may add more stratches
Thanks. I will try it 😊👌
Great video..well done! I especially liked how you were petting the cloth...Good Little Clothy lol👍😉🇨🇦
Does this work on scratches on marble table top?
Which method would be best for a glass-backed phone case?
Sir nice video but one question plz tell me soloution how to clean scratches dosa tawa plz tell me
When you pick it up and look thru it does it look hazzy?
Having had some experience polishing some glass I will say that most of the 'scratches' that people want to remove can't be. Especially if it's deep enough to catch your fingernail on. You're not going to 'polish' away that much glass. In most cases what you're able to do is 'obscure' the scratch by smoothing out or polishing the rough peaks in the 'channel' or valley of the scratch so it won't refract the light. I use jewelers rouge sometimes and it also depends how hard or soft the glass is. Unless you use a machine polisher, with these light abrasives by hand you'll be working on it a while, which is safe but tedious.
Indeed, glass is really hard and you polish it with something really gentle. Success will depend on depth of the scratch and dedication. Thanks for the feedback.
I have tried the toothpaste method on a glass coffee table. Repeated the process 3 times hasn't removed the scratch completely but has definitely made it less noticeable to the eye, actually i can barely see it you have to examine the table up close to see the scratch may repeat this again and see if it disappears completely.
Thanks for sharing, good luck!
Its workink great, i try on my infiniti side mirrors
Can use it on car windshield?
Could this work on removing scratches from amber glass? Amber glass lampshade? Thank you!
Amber don't like water
Will it work on glass stove also? Ple reply

Any suggestions to remove stains/scratches of fireworks on car windshield or any car glass. I will be very thankful to you. ☺️
Can you recomend it for phones?
Worked for me thank you soooooo much!
Thanks for sharing, just to maybe help others which method did you use?
You should have used a black background to see the scratches better
Filiming scratches is a challenge indeed, thanks for the tip
Hi, so was cleaning my oven inside... and on the glass window inside had a bunch of caked on grease marks I was able to get off but by scrubbing it with a dish washing pad... it left a bunch of scratches all over the glass, will this method work? The scratches aren’t deep just vivid enough where when I turn on the light inside the oven I see a bunch of swirl marks from the circle motion of the scrubbing I did.
Yes, the deeper the scratches the more difficult to remove (well the more time it takes to polish in fact). It sounds superficial, so give it a try. Just be careful to often check for progress as your work and not overdo it (or just like the sponge, you may create more scratches). Good luck!
Can it be done on gorilla glass?
Great video. Thank you for sharing
Hello Will it work on black glass?
Do these methods work on glasses lenses and phone screens? Please respond
they work by gently sanding down the glass back to one smooth surface. Phones have really thin glass, so its not ideal. And glasses usually have special coatings that could make it difficult.
@@tayh3645 Ah ok. Thank you! I was just wondering if there was a cheaper alternative to fixing my glasses but now I know. So thanks!
I noticed my new used car windshield has lots of tiny dots noticeable mainly when driving in the direction of sunset! It seemed the windshield might be damaged by sand storm I guess! Can I use your methods to fix this issue? Thanks
These techniques are only effective if the glass, you intend to repair, is laying down flat on a grey rubbery surface/bed, similar to the one you see in the video.
Glass can only be repaired if it’s ushered into a relaxed state.
Good luck.

There are specialised products for tablets
I have a scratch on my bathroom mirror, do we use a pencil before polishing with the toothpaste
Mine aren’t cratches exactly but a rubbing of a carriage strap in transit across the glass which shows up more when the lights are on in the cabinet

Yeah same question
@@aribari7078 yes it will do, buy cerium oxide for compound, felt pad for rotary machine and work you're way

does this work on watch glass
Hey I'm trying to clean old fish tank glass from a broken tank. It's been sitting a while. I took tooth paste and actually added baking soda and went with a actual buffer pad since I'm cleaning a few feet worth of semi deep scratches. I see you are able to get some similar depth scratches out with just a cloth. Are scratches easier to get out of certain types of glass? Like tempered VS non tempered? Low iron, or regular, etc? I'm having a heck of a time hah. Needed a break 45m with the buffer didn't make a dent... I'll try the steel wool method haven't tried that yet. Thanks for the tips and possibly direction on what I may be doing wrong or a more aggressive method if my scratches are deeper than I think. Not sure what constitutes a "deep" scratch.
A deep scratch is one that catches the nail. The thing with glass is that all scratches can be removed, BUT the deeper scratch, the longer it takes (and yes sometimes, that will be hours... or minutes long with a rotating tools with pro-compound but the risk of cupping the material and weakening a spot). The glass is extremely hard and we have to rub it with something really really gentle... like sanding a wooden board with 4000 grit sandpaper... good luck!
@@TheLabOtomy Thanks for the tips I may go with sand paper and risk a uneven surface but maybe not to the eye, since it is 9mm thick.
Did you try windshield repair kit? Sorry for being so late....😂😂maybe you did try it already
Thank you for this video Can anyone tell me what’s the best method to try on small scratch on my Tory Burch sunglasses
It depends on how deep it is, I used meguiars glass polish on my sun glasses and the scratches are gone
Man I got a nice scratch on my Prada sunglasses and Nothing will remove it. They are obsolete Zero stock. We are screwed Unfortunately. 😩
I used the toothpaste and it worked so much better than I thought it would. Thx
Can we do it on a wrist watch?
Can use in mobile phone
This worked like magic. Thanks
For the method no 3 what the purpose you show us metal polish?but you were using car polish..which one should be used?both or either one?
Mothers aluminum wheel polish works great for plastic headlights and camera and phone screen scratch removal or reduction.
Sir please reply me i want your help it can be work on my fish aquarium glass
Yes
HI, I have tried Bicarbonate of Soda and toothpaste on mirror scratches but they are still there. Maybe they are too deep? What would you suggest please?
cerium oxide only
@@vladimir907 Thank you, I don't know what that is
I have 3 scratches inside my (12mm glass) aquarium. This procedure can help me out or not?
Deepens on how deep they are. if catches your nail, better use pro-dedicated products or you are on for hours of polishing
Is this method works in car windshield?
yes but not with elbow grease, you'll need rotary machine for that
Does it work on a phone?
Bro actually feviquick spilted on my glass ,so i tried to remove it with shaving blade but their were scratches ,qny idea?
Can it work on my watch? What if the scratch catches your nail? How long would it take?
If the scratch catches on your nail, this is bad news. Depending on the depth, this can easily be 30 minutes of polishing using professional cerium oxide based product and a powertool buffer... also too much polisihing will carve the glass and make it thinner (more prone to break...)
Use the silicone dioxide abrasive stuff with a rotary polisher and a foam polishing pad.Auto detailers do this all the time.
Noted, thanks Bill for the addition
can you suggest any such video please...I have windshield wiper half round mark on my car windshield and it looks so so ugly
@@manuverma3841 try a new windscreen 👌
Does this work for tint glasses?

Can these methods be used on Mobile Phone Glass? Thanks for the video… 👏
They can but in my experience they did F*** all to even minor scratches 😞
Can I use this method for scratches on smartphone glass?
probably but they sell cheap kits to for smart phones and glasses

@@heshamahmed7206 i just found out its a scam lol don't even bother the only real way to remove scratches from glass is to sand with a 5000 or 8000 grit and then polish sadly this will remove a thing layer of glass but not noticeable if you sand just enough to the scratch mark
Thank you for the information, it worked a treat and the glass is like new.
Good to hear! Thanks for sharing
Does it work on car side mirrors with micro scratches??? please help:-(
Should, I would go for #0000 steel whool and gently rub (since this works well for mirrors). Process gently, with not too much pressure and check progress regurarly.
Use #80 grit sandpaper and a high-speed grinder!!! IT WORKS 100%!!!😄👍

@@mikeymoo1291 lols ... best solution ever
You are most likely describing pitting from debris hitting your windshield. That happens over time. If the glass has a lot of pitting the best solution is to replace the windshield. Good luck
I am so over the haters. “This totally does not work...these methods are stupid....” Stop whining. Seriously. It’s gross. You should be embarrassed.

Thank you..
I tried toothpaste, baking soda, pumice soap. Nothing has helped the scratches in my glass vase! Help! I have tried the metal polish or car wax polish. Did you mix the two?
Hi Amanda, the first thing to check is how deep the scratch is. If it catches a nail, then polishing it back to a smooth surface will take a lot of time (remember we are rubbing something really gentle - not to create additional scratches - against something really hard). At the end of the video, I have listed other products that professional repair guys use to fix deeper scratches. Hope it works out for you.
Not sure what density the glass you are working on. My glasses are a high quality glass for reading. And I had best results for repair with a clear filler. Toothpaste, sodium bicarbonate, ceramic glass cooktop cleaners, glass polish, headlight lens polish kits that brillo pad, and jewelry cleaner is for soft precious metals. I have windshield polishing powder for a drill but would be challenging for a lens but could be doable. The methods you had successfully used didn't work in my case. But if whoever can use them great. I'll be using the filler for my glasses til they break.
Do any of these methods work on a fog free bathroom mirror?
Toothpaste worked for me
Can I use the toothpaste method to remove very light scratches on my eye glasses?
If the surfaces have been treated with a special coating, no
I got a few big scratches on my passenger window from someone hitting it with a rock. Nothing is cleaning it up. 😢 i just want the dirt/paint looking marks gone. I know the scratches will remain. Just want to clean it up.
Hi, can I use on sunglasses ? G15 ray ban lenses
I would not, sunglasses have often been surface treated and polishing it will remove the surface coating
can cotton balls be used to do this process ?
Should work
Will it work on my phone screen ?
100%!!!! But be sure to use coarse sandpaper when applying the toothpaste!! Or else it wont work!!!
Please help me. Wouldn't steel wool make it worse?
Not any kind of steel wool, but #0000!
