For all those who complain about “jiber jaber”, I am here to remind you that youtube gives you the option to speed up the video from 1.2 up to 2.0 I listened to this at 1.5x and got through all the video because I needed the very useful free information. I tried polishing glass just today with the same ceriglass and the same pad but with a DA at speed 4 and it was hard. Did not know an interface pad would help, did not know you need full speed, did not know you need to go 20-30min just for a small area and many more. So let me just give a huge thank you for the quality informations given. Haven’t got any info that specific in any orher videos like the one given here. So stop wining, you little babies.
Amen !!!!
Thank you, I was doing it all wrong, just finished taking wiper scratches out of my 73 Buick, I ordered everything from you guys, worked great, it did take about 3-4 hours, but it’s like a new car windshield, rain beads off, thank you
Is it possible u could send me a list or a link for the stuff I used?
You*
@@JBly444 car pro rayon pads, interface pad, car pro glass polish. All you need after that is your buffer & muscles
Finally someone out there who talks about glass polishing! I have known this was possible for years, and even knew cerium oxide is what you use, but could never find text or video that explained how. THANK YOU!
I loved the videos. Haters need to do their own video or move on instead of critiquing others who are trying to educate. Be kind to others people. We live in such a hateful world.
Amen, amen!
Skip to 8:31 if you are just looking for what the title promised this was about.
Thank u….. 1,5 hour video funny longer than most movies
Thanks for showing me why I should just get a fresh windshield installed.
The dry humor makes the class/video all the more worthwhile guys: watched it entirely with smiles. And now I know why at least I was quoted a minimum of $150 by a local glass repair shop to take out some windshield scuff marks.
Glad you enjoyed it, we try to have fun and make learning easy - Yancy
Gotta respect a man that can answer a question by saying "I don't know the answer". Excellent video guys. Thanks
Awesome video! Been watching Mike for almost 2 decades now, always enjoy his work. Thankful I got to meet him back in the day at a Meguiars road trip! Just ordered the kit, gonna give it a try!
I thought the real time sanding was hilarious when you were standing back, all sweaty and pooped out. Now that's a cool video. People aren't gonna want to work on windows with all the physicalness. Very informative. Thanks guys 😎👌
This guy has paid his dues you can tell he has tons of detailing hours under his belt. Much respect.
Mike, hello from sweet home. still at it at 73 years old got a new pxe flex and lots of new pads. enjoyed this video thanks
This is exactly the video I was looking for, nobody else covers exactly how time consuming this is. Thanks guys, excellent work!
Best professional instruction I've seen. I am DIY with bad water spots on windshield, and deciding between my own ability to polish out and spending for the tool vs. replacement of windshield. Having serious night time glare and is a safety issue. This is not to mention that I'm a senior, with less than average endurance. Mike says, "yeah it's hard" and it looks it.
You're not trying to polish out scratches though. I would pick up some glass polish and try it by hand before investing in a tool. You could go with the cerium oxide products he mentioned, but honestly you may see good results just picking up some regular glass polish from Amazon and doing it by hand.
For the people complaining about the length, you CAN click around the time bar
The conversation is educational and paases the time in a live example of a time consuming procedure. Good vibes only 🤙
Some top-shelf blue collar work here. This is artisanry. Well done.
Thank you. So nice to read a real comment instead of the sophomore type comments. -Mike Phillips
Best video I've found on the subject. My windshield has hundreds of tiny pit marks from lots of highway driving. I plan to remove them this way.
Were you able to remove pit marks with this technique and polishing compound?
Thanks for your kindness showing that knowledge.
Any time
I learned its important to keep the pad level while buffing. Looks great afterwards compared to before.
I mean he's using an interface pad so I believe it'll correct any unevenness during buffing.
What a kick ass video. The experience of this guy just oozes out every sentence. Thank you.
oozes extremely slowly..
Back in '68, I acquired a '65 AC Cobra with a windshield that would have made a good test case for your process. The Cobra had been wrecked and had a hard life. The passenger side was severely wiper-blade scratched, with scratches filled with over spray, and barely translucent . I was young, not very knowledgeable, and sought help. All recommendations were that it was a lost cause. Using a standard power drill, and many hours intermittently, I started with bathroom cleanser and worked my way up to jeweler's rouge. It was a learning experience and I was fearful of damaging the windshield and possibly cause other irreversible damage. I could always tell but otherwise it was mostly not noticeable.
Talked me right into just getting my pitted windshield replaced.
Ha ha - and this is the best option for the majority of people on planet Earth.
My job isn't to show people how to find a glass replacement company, my job is I'm the "how-to" guy. -Mike Phillips
Hahahaha!!! 🤣
Totally agree! Was hoping I could do this myself....just going to have to choke up the $300 and get a new windshield. Thanks for the video! Wish you were in my area so I could pay YOU to do this for me
Awesome video! So much helpful information. Just spent the whole weekend trying to polish off some deep water stain from my windshield. I almost gave up. Now I learn so much from this video and I'll try it again this weekend.
Y'all complaining about FREE information here in the comments!!! Thanks for your help
For real! People saying “I came here to learn not listen blah blah blah”
Nothing is free in life, they’re doing you a service for absolutely free. Quit your bitching.
Okay. That's what I did wrong. Well I guess I better buy some stuff. You showed me how to do it. Its the least I can do. I will Pick up the pads this week and get this job done. Been dealing with scratches for a while. Time to get rid of them. I see this taking about a day to do for me. My whole window is scratched.
THANK YOU for spending the time to show us just how LONG it really takes. I only spent a FRACTION of the time. No wonder I did not get great results. I was also using a low speed setting.
Cerium Oxide is used to grind glass mirrors for telescopes.
I appreciate the class and the natural interaction and conversation.
First time watching this Channel and I have to say I am very impressed. The honesty of the guests or I should say the gentleman that's doing the polishing unbelievable he tells it like it is and is open about everything cost what you would charge the materials that you really need to do it right this is beautiful I love it thank you.
53:24 Tip: Take a towel, fold it so it's thick to hold more water, soak it with cold water, and place on the outside windshield over the spot you buffed inside to soak up the heat.
It helps building a 3"+ fence with blue tape around the perimeter being buffed. That would catch 90% of the material being flung.
Great job Mike. Wow that's alot of work. Now I know that glass that looks beautiful and polished involves alot of labor and time. Thanks for the video. I have learned so much from you. You are the Master detailer!
Thanks Emmanuel, always appreciate people that appreciate real meaty info. -Mike Phillips
You guy's are top-shelf. Really enjoy these vids and learn a lot. Thanks.
If The Rock could do it - surely the Terminator wouldn't have any issues! Nice video guys!
Great video. I started my windshield yesterday with my Mirka Deros and abranet, quite a deep wiper gouge. I've spent about two hours working on the levelling, could be another hour left to do before I even go to 1500. I have Trizact 3000, and then onto the rayon disc and cerium oxide.
It would've been easier/cheaper(timewise on earning) to jist put a new glass in, but I jist did that a few months ago after stine damage, so it's partly a matter of conservation of material, partly just to know I can do it.
Anyway this video pointed out a few things I might have otherwise overlooked, and is exceptionally thorough.
Thank you. So nice to read intelligent comments on UA-cam. -Mike Phillips
This is goin to save me a windshield replacement. I have a merc.benz clk 430 2002. It has only 1 wiper and the windshield is scratched from the owner not replacing the wiper when needed. Thank you
Yeh it is hard work! I polished out wiper arm grooves in a vintage windscreen. I didn't have any product. I made a leather pad for a cordless drill and used brick dust as the abrasive and water as the lube. It took hours.
Too much jiber jabber, get to the point, looks like he is just trying to extend the video as long as possible just to get paid
Lol. That's what I thought, useful vid though
Over an hour seems reaaally excessive. But it is a “class”
Yeah. I was thinking ‘get to the meat of the message’
I'll sure take an extended video over no video
Yup I'm outta here
Heat is a real problem and why misting with water is really important. I attended a class of Mike's and toward the end the interface pad was smoking. It fell apart after all students were done with the process, watch the heat!
Great video. All these folks saying it’s too long…change the playback speed to 2x.
Very good job, i have tried that process using raw cirium oxide in powder form in which you should dilute it with water. Yes that job is realy hard one but with patient and strength you can do it good.
Best is mix to 3m glass polishing compound&.C.O
I really wanted to know how to do this, thankyou.
Holy shit this guy is a excellent instructor. Amazing video. Thank you covering everything
As a DIYer here in Ottawa Ontario Canada this is very informative. Love this
Thanks for watching! - Yancy
I work in glass fabrication and use the purex buffing system. It's pricey but great. Ibwas under the impression that windshields had a coating on them and couldn't be buffed. Might do this for a side hustle
Got off work today and started on my driver side window, it’s scratched to hell cause of the wide tires on my truck, they sling junk all over the side of my truck, well I got off at 2:30 and just went in cause it got to dark! 🤣🤣 gonna start again tomorrow! It’s crazy how u can fix this.. I never thought there was a way I was just gonna replace it but I saw some videos and decided to try it! But if one thing is for sure about every video, it takes a looooooong time! But worth it!
That overhead light reflection is almost EXACTLY in the way lol
I have a few microscopic nicks in my glass… I will try this method and hope for the best!
Great workshop video gives good advice nothing like watching pros show how its done stay safe cheers
Glad you enjoyed it!
I'm scratching my head over the costs to buff a windshield out verses just getting a new one.
Whats the price of buffing?
Some of us have 60+ yr old cars that don't have stacks of new glass sitting on dealer shelves
With effort you guys put into making this DIY. Thank you so much. You guys amazing.
Our pleasure! - Yancy
@@autogeek Completely agree. Some top-shelf blue collar work here. :-P Well done.
You can use very fire steel wool pads, it gives your glass a great shine and takes off any dirt old wax e
Think I'd rather buy a kit for this one
Don’t do it. I used OOOO steel wool that’s what got me here. These guys are a couple clowns that like to listen to themselves talk.
please understand what the steel wool is and is not capable of. I have done it personally several times and I can tell you from my experience that steel wool will absolutely NOT "remove" scratches on your windows.
However, it is great for getting rid of almost any water spots and road grime that you can see if you were to just clean your windows with just a cleaning agent.
For that issue, it has worked very well for me and it can make a huge impact on the viability.
20# of pressure on the windshield! I would never have thought to do this. Thanks.
I also appreciate the idea of covering the hood. This stuff is guaranteed to scratch paint if it falls on it.
Glad it was helpful! - Yancy
Great tip about the buffers with the stainless gears that greatly reduce noise. Been using a Makita corded one for over 25 years and hate the nauseating screaming noise the gears in it make.
Awesome video, guys! I’ll keep my eyes peeled for the engine detailing video

Thank you for great video & demonstration. I feel confident on what I need and how to make glass look acceptable. 40:38
Mario from Texas, your lesson is most valuewed, it is just super great work. Thanks.
Boss too much talking man this is not a talk show can you just show us how to do it and that’s it appreciate it
Exactly. Could've shortened the narrative to less than 5 minutes. Obviously likes hearing himself talk. A real legend in his own world
Right. Lol. Damn a hour and a half video
My sentiments exactly but... what would the youtube algo think
I use the speed control and flash thru the blab straight to wtf I’m here.
You’re not kidding.
It is a very informative video, he shares alot of insight and shows passion for this - wouldn’t it make sense to just remove the wipers ? Most of them come off simply and is a good time to replace them
Appreciate all the useful information. I would love to see how to get out 1/16" scratch by wiper blade that came off during a rain. Do you angle the tool ? Do you still do the whole glass ?
Loyal to the Foil. 🙏🏽

I was lying in bed. I began to suspect I was continually starting the video over and over. If I weren't, I must be in a time warp.
Great info Mike! It's hilarious that all the idiots commenting on here are saying that it's too much talking and information, when the subject of your whole conversation is that so many idiots are impatient and don't want to spend the time to correctly do this process
Everyone learns differently and we like to inform you with all the knowledge so you can do the job right the first time. Thanks for watching! - Yancy
A buddy to mist? Ever heard of those little misters people connect to their hose during the summer? It stands by itself...also has a lever to open and close the water flow.. no unnecessary buddy necessary..
Also, a little step ladder to get you up above the windshield... could save your shoulders... just an idea.
Greetings from Hereford, England.
Just wanted to say thanks for the tutorial. This is exactly the problem (windscreen wiper scratches) I've been trying to fix for months. Now I know how. Cerium Oxide is on the way 😉👍🏻.
One thing I would say, though, is that if you have a low pair steps, you could lean further forward and use your bodyweight to polish the glass. Far less physical and easier polishishing.
Just an idea 😁
I'm a rather tall guy 6'2" myself and I was thinking of a platform too 👍
I used to have a problem with glass being sandblasted in Florida. Lots of sand living 2 miles from the Gulf of Mexico. I have a secret to cure this though. No, I won't tell you because it cost me $80,000 for one vehicle...... Oh, OK. If you insist. Are you ready? Here it is. I bought a new house and moved 1,000 miles north to a hard rock state. 20 years and 5 vehicles later, I haven't had a problem since. It's been kind of a tradeoff though with the collisions between rock salt and sheet metal but you can't Bondo a windshield. Great show!
It says AUTOGEEK. What do geeks do? They're fanatical about the object of their obsession, always willing to put in that extra effort (sometimes to extreme lengths) it's the reason they exist. It defines who they are. Now let the man shine😂 1:30:45 that's the short version🤣
Thank you man, you answered all of my questions and am just waiting for a few 3.5 inch rayon and will now order the five inch with the 4.75 transition pad.
Everything requires a conscious decision. You can spend your time; what if this or what if that-ing.
Or go get what you need. Set up. Do the things that you need to do. And be done with it before noon.
My father had a great saying: He who hesitates has lost.
What you know. You know.
Can I get an edit , holy smokes . I have unlimited data and i used it all🤣
lol!
Much more easy to have the windshield replaced than to listen to this guy jabber for an hour.
😂🤣
Thank you for this video. I didn't know you could save a windshield.
You take far, far too long to get to the point!
Great video! Thank you so much for so much details. I found it searching for the way to remove two scratched right in the front of me in the driver's seat which I left just like Mike in Ferrari )) Still making up my mind if I need to go with the polishing or try other solutions.
You have to remember that your windhsield is safety glass, it is a laminate of 2 pieces of glass with a clear membrane in between, so if it breaks, it won't shatter into a million shards flying into your face. Your side windows are not safety glass, they shatter. That's why I have one of those multi tools that can cut through a safety belt and has a heavy end with a point to hit the middle of a side window to shatter it, in case you drive into a pond or lake or something. You won't be able to escape from your front windshield.
That being said, be careful if you try to remove side window scratches, if you overheat the glass, it will shatter.
The waterspots are from hard water, AKA- minerals, using soft water will eliminate hard waterspots.
Noticed several mistakes.
1) The product instructions are not followed
1.5) NEVER dilute a product. Never dilute a CONCENTRATED product while using.
2) Less is better. You only need about 4 to 6 drops of product, as instructed
3) Splatter happens because the user does not dab the pad onto all the surface of the glass panel AND need to spread it first at low speed
4) No water required. Either finish or wipe and re-apply
Excellant demonstration! Thank You!
You guys are fun. Thanks. I wouldn't have thought it possible to fix that glass. My thought is that it's applicable to house glass when water spotted. I've used the powder from home depot for water spots on household glass and it works with a machine. Doing anything by hand is not fun pr practical.
Man, i commented before the end, so i have to comment again. Thankyou for legitimately putting in this work. And actually showing people n not some time lapsed bs that someone makes it appear as tho they didn't break a sweat.
This is beautiful afterwards.
Also, i think people should realize, water stains n that, u might only be on this glass for 3 minutes, then entire thing if u know what ur doing.
I could imagine a company that adds this level of polishing n then protect it with something amazing ur set for 20 years with maintenance n never get another scratch.
I remember being in wildwood nj n went to a gas station with my brand new bmw 330e. Anyway nj they pump it for it. So my car sat for 3 or 4 days at the hotel a block from the beach. Yes there was sand on it.
The scummy guy pumping the gas just starts cleaning the window n it wasnt until a few days later i completely realized what he did which was completely scratch micro scratches across my entire windshield i was so angry man. It wasn't like noticeable to the naked eye from the outside or interior, until you were driving with the sun above n in front of the car. Thats when u saw every little abrasion and it was so annoying to me.
For 3 years of driving that every time i drove into sunlight i cussed that mf'er out. Its been 5 years n i can still picture myself going back there but hes lucky its so far away.
I wish i knew about this at the time.
the comment about watches and jewelry is a good one, for almost *any* Metalwork, paintwork, polishing...there's danger to both the surfaces, and your fingers, when something scratches, or gets caught on a rotating disc, lathe, drill, sander...
Great information but this video could have been edited down to 10-15 minutes.
Please come to the point without making it too long
Yesterday, I was talking to someone about scratches in my 69 Chevelle window.
Today, this shows up in my feed... My phone was in my pocket😮
Very interesting.
The AI knows you better than you know yourself......creepy
Your phone and your car have "a thing"going....
I tried this on my Alfa Romeo 156.
There was a few light-ish wiper marks on the driver's side.
By the time I got the scratches out, the inner laminate part of the windscreen had clouded in a small spot (15cm round)
Once I saw that I decide never to try it again.
Sorry to hear this. I know for me personally - I always have to weigh the risks versus the rewards and above all - know my own limits. -Mike Phillips
Very good information, thank you guys very much
Thank you for the great content! Answered so many things I wanted to know
Glad it was helpful! - Yancy

Does it affect chip repair epoxy? Is it safe? How deep od a scratch will it remove? How much to replace the windsheild? I can get a replacement windshield from an auto wrecker for around 100$ and install it myself. There should be a machine you attach to the car that has tracks and spring pressure to automatically buff the window evenly and equally only thing you'd have to do is spray the compound and water.
Nice..art of detailing. I like the passion
Thank you so much 😀
spent so much time jaw running, got bored 1/3 way through.... just show me how, save stories for end... blah blah blah
I did this to an old fish tank that that I got for free. It had so much water etching. It definitely helped a lot. I used the tank for a reptile, I wouldnt trust using it for fish after using buffing compounds. But was safe for a beardie with lotsss of rinsing
I’ve removed scratches to an acceptable level using ceraglass, misting water, a rayon pad, and a 3 inch da polisher with an 8mm throw. However I don’t know how to remove the haze I’ve created. Any tips for which combo I should use? I have access to lots of polishes and pads.
Did you ever figure it out?
I cut a pad to fit an oscillating tool and repeated the process. Worked much better. Here’s what carpro suggested: “use ultracut polish with orange polish pad , in low to medium speed. it should remove the haze , spray eraser after or even during the polishing.”
Thank you, I was about to give up after I drain 2 batteries on 1/2 windshield on my E92.
Now I know I have top try harder !
Edit : ( 2nd try, I drained this time the two batteries on 1/8 and I now see improvements ! :) )
Just a little disappointed that they didn’t do a close-up on the glass to give you a better perspective of the area that they worked on compared to the one they did not.
I’ve touched up windshields chips and scratches with a small paint brush and clear coat paint. And razor blade !
Temporary fix …. Rather than Spending big $ for new windshield!
This is alright for light scratches and swirls, it's still super messy though. In my experience cerium oxide compacts itself into pits and I have yet to get it out 6 months later. Tried solvents, gasoline, repeated washes. Pinkish-orange dots all over my windshield, apparently only an acid can dissolve it. I think I'm going to experiment using oil and diamond pads next
Diamond 3m 3000. Wet paper. As the pad. And wheel acid diluted 10/1 will dissolve hardwater and fisheyes. Use gloves. Rinse and repeat. Wet every thing first. Keep it wet!!! Ceramic glass top polish works as well. Keep it wet!!!!
Twentyfive minutes and I fell asleep. Still don't know how to polish a fucking window.
Ceriglass will put scratchs back in the glass. Use a rotary with ceriglass and I guarantee you will have micro swirl scratches on your glass
I've tried with rotary and Ceriglass and that was the final result - micro swirls. What do you suggest to fix it?
@@k.kostov92 never use it again. It's snake oil. You can try a compound on a microfiber pad or a polish with a microfiber
I would like to know how you reach the middle of the windshield. I have a difficult time reaching it. Do you use a ladder?
