Funny you mention Focus Energy Marowak; that was the exact strategy of the "Character of the Day" where his Marowak used a combination of Focus Energy and Bone Club to beat Ash's Bulbasaur...before losing to Pikachu's Thunderbolt because the anime writers still mistook Ground-Type's Electric immunity for being on the Rock-Type...

I find it very amusing that Game Freak made Marowak the most physically strong attacker in gen 2, and also made its 3D model do bicep curls as an idle animation.
Thick Club Marowak was like a Mega Evolution before Mega Evolutions were a thing. When given a Thick Club, Marowak's maximum Attack is 568 (higher than Mega Mewtwo X's 526 or Mega Heracross's 515). For a Pokemon to have a maximum Attack that high without an item or some other boost, they would have to have base 209 Attack. So the Thick Club essentially increases Marowak's base Attack by 129, which is larger than the +100 boost to stat total given by Mega Evolutions.
The Marowak story doesn’t make me cry. It was the sick and dying Stoutland that always brings a tear to my eye. My last dog couldn’t get up and he shit himself and we had to put him down. I wanted to bawl my eyes out and I didn’t care who heard or what people were thinking about me. I loved that beast so much.
@@shady8045 I believe it as something about the anime, where a rogue Litten was going around town, stealing food for a sick very old Stoutland that was basically like a father to Litten. It´s the Litten that joins Ash later on.

I literally just found this series like 1 hour ago as of writing this, and now I must watch them all. Because as a adult who grew up playing the pokemon games but never aware of the competitive side until X & Y this history stuff is absolutely fascinating
About the origin of Marowak and where the creators got him from, I have some valid thought. Marowak sounds a lot like "Sarawak", which are tribes that live in the jungles of Borneo. Their customs include headhunting (taking the skulls of prey and enemies), which explains the skull on Marowaks head. Borneo was invaded by Japan during WWII, and the Sarowak warriors reportedly fought ferociously, and also practiced headhunting on Japanese soldiers. This may give evidence for the origin of Marowak, as Nintendo is a Japanese company after all.
I'm actually impressed. I love my boy Marowak but always thought he was just not great. Glad to see that he had a few moments where he really shined in the competitive scene!
Sadly sorta inevitable that the old stuff gets phased out unless they receive an upgrade in some way (Mega, ability, moves etc.) . More pokemon to catch means more pokemon/moves that could potentially do what they do better or counter them, which leads to them being replaced or forgotten.
Marowak is amazing in trick room teams. I used a Brave natured lightning rod Marowak in the Battle Tower Double challenge in HGSS along with Gyarados, Bronzong, and Spiritomb, and I got a 92 win streak. His moves are Earthquake, Rock Slide, Low Kick, and Protect. His Earthquake doesn't affect Gyarados, Bronzong with levitate, and Spiritomb had protect to block Earthquake.
Don't get me wrong I would be interested in them covering Pinsir I was just pointing out that he wasn't that big in gen 1. (My wife also shares this account and was the one who put a vote in for ninetales.)
Marowak’s Career It’s been highs and lows for the bearer of bones. He’s had bones to pick with some metagames but he’s seen enough to be satisfied. Even his Alolan brethren consider him a respected warrior. All Marowak hopes is that his mother is proud of his efforts.
I love how the comments section rarely talks about the video content just what we want to see next lol. Aww gsc Marowak. My favorite Mon of all time. Marowak deserves a mega. With steel/ghost or ground/steel typing.
I really want Persian as it has been my Favorite Pokemon ever since I got introduced to Pokemon years ago back near Gen 1! Make sure to upvote and comment on other comments voting for Persian to increase our chances 🐱!
And now thanks to Poltergeist and Dexit, Alolan Marowak is damn near unwallable in OU. It is still dirt slow, but the opposing player has to sacrifice one of their Pokémon unless it’s like a max Defense Max HP Toxapex, but even then, Bonemerang or Earthquake
It is though no other Pokemon gains that type of power thru an item and if it does get a hit off it's one of the strongest Pokemon. Marowak and Medicham are sort of niche glass Cannons that can work really well in game but competitively they get outsped or killed by priority. It needs a stab priority move to work consistently. Not to mention it has Bonemerang which is used over Earthquake because of its ability to break Substitutes
Persian was really good in Gen 1 because of the speed stat and how critical hits were based on speed not sure about the other gens Not sure how good Hippowdon is
Always loved Marowak. I use it on Pokemon Planet. Thick Club made it far too easy in almost any battle. As you pointed out, bonemerang hits twice for those pesky subs, I use rock head with double-edge for those flyers and that extra oomph, and finally false swipe for the most obvious reason.

I agree, this needs to be looked at.
Looks like Ninetails is next, looking at the comments. But pls. PLS.
*HOW GOOD WAS GOLEM ACTUALLY*
GOLEM!!!! NOW!!!!
David Cappadoccia screw the marowak story, and screw the stoutland story. Your story made me ball my eyes out!! Lol
wait what are you talking about whats up with stoutland
@@shady8045 I believe it as something about the anime, where a rogue Litten was going around town, stealing food for a sick very old Stoutland that was basically like a father to Litten. It´s the Litten that joins Ash later on.
Both the Stoutland story and your dog story are sad,i just had to have my old boxer freedom put down because she was getting cancer all over her ;-;
@@The-Man-of-Pepsi :/
I won't cry... No, I won't shed a tear. Nooooooooo
This world is sad, honestly. But... gotta keep daydreaming it'll stop being that some day, I guess. Too bad it's a fool's hope, and that we'll all be long gone then even if it does.
I also hope we humans will stop making each other's life harder too, but... pfft.

I love how rock head is basically a perfect ability to a-marowak toolkit. yet generally lightning rod is prefered
shows how flexible the game is
Rock head is much better flare blitz and another strong recoil move i cant remember

I literally just found this series like 1 hour ago as of writing this, and now I must watch them all. Because as a adult who grew up playing the pokemon games but never aware of the competitive side until X & Y this history stuff is absolutely fascinating

It's my favourite Pokemon, and I've always spelled it right.
nine separate stories of power, not nine rectal appendages.
Really? I thought it was Neintails
It should be Ninetails!
@@ShadowtheUA-camr523 no.

Glad to see that he had a few moments where he really shined in the competitive scene!
the videos about the old pokemon always feel so depressing because they are just not what they used to be.
metroidfannumber1 we need restats and move upgrades before anything else really
Marowak at least seemed used to not being the best once power creep showed up...
Well to be fair marowak wasn't very good in gen 1 anyways so it's pretty much still the same.
Sadly sorta inevitable that the old stuff gets phased out unless they receive an upgrade in some way (Mega, ability, moves etc.) . More pokemon to catch means more pokemon/moves that could potentially do what they do better or counter them, which leads to them being replaced or forgotten.
Unless their name is Chansey

I'd love to see you cover Ninetales, especially since it too has an Alolan variant.
DO NOT CALL MAROWAK A HE!

Marowak’s Career
It’s been highs and lows for the bearer of bones. He’s had bones to pick with some metagames but he’s seen enough to be satisfied. Even his Alolan brethren consider him a respected warrior. All Marowak hopes is that his mother is proud of his efforts.

Tauros lite in gen 1 then useless onwards ez
And now thanks to Poltergeist and Dexit, Alolan Marowak is damn near unwallable in OU. It is still dirt slow, but the opposing player has to sacrifice one of their Pokémon unless it’s like a max Defense Max HP Toxapex, but even then, Bonemerang or Earthquake
“One of the most unique Pokémon of all time.”
Moves: Earthquake, Rock Slide, Hidden Power, Swords Dance...
