For me the most special and underrated r107 is the early european 350 SL with 4 speed manual. Quite a bit quicker and more sporty than the automatic versions. Very rare - only around 1000.

Thanks Anne Marie and thank you Pierre, hmmmm I have a 1975 450sl, 1981 380sl and a 1980 500SL buuut I am in Australia. I love the simplicity of my 75 as it has manual windows yet headlight wipers and air conditioning. I use my 500SL as a daily driver and it hasn't let me down over the five years of ownership and I wouldn't part with it for love nor money. Great presentation again thank you for your knowledge Pierre.

    Interesting video.
I drive a 1985 380 SL black on black, w/ the heated seats option that I bought for $3500 with 72,000 miles. I have done most of the maintenance myself and enjoy driving any chance I get

Hello Pierre this was awesome! Thanks for taking the time.
Question - do you know if there is a “safer” year / model r107? Thanks again!

I’ve got a 76. Been driving it off and on for 3 years now. This car ALWAYS starts. Sooo dependable. Aside from the puff of smoke when I take off it’s perfect. (Working on that now) :)

@@fthyme87 valve seals or valve guides. Valve seals cheaper to fix than valve guides. The parts don’t cost mainly the labor. I’m gonna try some liqui moly first. Then replace seals if that doesn’t work. Then go ahead and do the top end if that doesn’t work. (In that order)

@@fthyme87 love your slc. I want those euro headlights! I’ll post some videos soon of my progress. I’m doing bodywork now getting it ready to wrap it with a matte charcoal metallic grey.

A couple of updates. The servos are no longer available from Mercedes
Also, all of the 380 SLS had a 2.47 axle

    Hi Pierre
    I move owned 12 W126 cars, 3 W123’s, 1 R107 and 3 W124’s all with the inline 6 - 300 M103 engines and I loved each and every one of them
I’ve been looking for an R107 for a long time and the prices here in Italy are insane!
Should I import one for the USA?
Or should I try to find a 300 CE C124 here in Italy because they are more available and significantly less expensive.
    Thanks

  • @ace7821

These cars are great but they are extremely expensive to maintain and the repairs are beyond difficult and time consuming. No modern car faces these problems today. Plus R107’s don’t sell for that little. Parts are getting literally impossible to find including from Mercedes Benz. I know because I have been looking and am experiencing all of this first hand as I repair mine and have been for the past 25 years.
