I love that some people out there advocate for the less popular SLC cars. They have such a different character and style than the more abundant convertibles. The rear glass and side louvers are so gorgeous that it really makes them stand out compared to other cars.

Pierre is a seeker of truth! Which is why He owns the material. It’s easy to wear his skin, he is a focused wrench! A few months ago I finally picked up an SLC. Military 1974, first sighting … As you walk around, the sheet metal is pulled taunt and flat. Then the 3D slight of hand marrying that roof to the body is a work of amazing engineering !!! Think C-111 …. Mine was a one owner, bought at the factory with HVAC deleted estate sale. It took me a while to find a European Spec SLC. This one truly fell out the sky …. I finally got one !

I'd love to own a SLC as I think they are such a beautiful, elegant car. I am a long time owner of an Australian Mercedes 380 SEC, which is a fine car, but big. The SLC is smaller, sportier and so European. And not being a fan of convertables, as the weather and sun is so harsh here, a hard top is just fine for me. Better start looking for one before they become unaffordable.

Greetings from Sweden ! I have one w114 coupe from 1975, and a w107 sl from 1978. Me and my wife drive these during summer. They are nice solid cars ! I have owned them for twenty years, and i have no plans of selling them any time soon !

I had a 1974 450 SLC it was very fast and smooth on the highway, these cars are definitely not daily drivers.
    MPG 12 city/15 hwy
Features in car Becker am/fm stereo which still worked
    Moonroof
Anthracite grey exterior original paint which still looked in factory condition
    Fog lights
    First aid kit
    Original windshield wipers
    Alloy wheels
    Problems with car
    Oil leakage
    Hood latch problems
    replaced headers
And one day the car started but wouldn’t go into reverse or drive
So I ended up getting rid of it for free.
I purchased the car for $1,200 back in 1999, it lasted for 4 years.
Speedometer had 186k miles on it when I got it , but the speedometer did not work when I got it.
It also had U.S regulatory bumpers which made the car look even longer and unattractive.

Thanks Pierre for that unexpected review. Love the SLC, my current favourite 'sports car'
Their rallying heritage especially their prowess in marathon events together with the W123s (I own a Gen 1 123) made me, a Rally fan want to own both. I hope to pick one up when my bank balance allows for one.

I've had mine since 2003, was my only car for many years. Much more flexible than an SL, you can put a child seat in the back of one for example. They were also generally better equipped - e.g. mine has leather, LSD etc. I add that these cars (and the R107) rust like nothing else. This chassis, the 116 and 114/115 seem to be the most rust prone Mercedes. Note that another comment says the aluminum control arms were standard on euro models, this is not the case. What was standard was the anti-dive/anti-squat suspension setup on the 450 which for some strange reason US cars had to do without.

    • @thisisnightshop2037
      @thisisnightshop2037 4 роки тому

Less than 100k miles on it. Some clear liquid leaked out on under left side of front. :( while sitting in my garage just the other day

First of all, love your content, just discovered your stuff, loving it. Second, as an owner of a 380slc, I think you skipped some of its virtues... I think the all aluminum engine gives it better handling, the four speed auto is a very nice positive, and frankly, the power of the engine is a good match for the car’s character. No arguments on the negatives, I’ve spent heavily on the timing chain conversion, climate control, and no I don’t like the 85mph speedo, but regardless, incredibly satisfying car to own. Hard to figure why the c107 is so under appreciated, but as you said, that becomes an ownership perk in its own way too.

Hello Pierre, as always, thank you very much for an exceptional comparison with wealth of knowledge. Suggestion, if I may please, I think it would be very helpful to show a picture, as an illustration, of any MBZ "W - chassis" within the subject you're talking about. This is for the vast general viewers help, firtly, to refresh the minds of the older enthusiasts remembering the good old days and secondly, to have more of the younger generation gain additional interest in the various glamorous shapes and models of the MBZ Classics. With your permission, this would make your lobbying for the Classic MBZ even more effective and interesting, after all a picture can paint a thousand words. Many thanks and keep up the good work, sir.

I have owned a 73 450slc since 2009. It had 74k then, has 80k now. These coupes don't get anywhere near the respect the roadsters get and I am ok with that. Once you get a car you seem to notice similar cars and even though I live in north central WV there are quite a few 107r's running around but I have only seen one other SLC. From the side view they look awkward but from the front 3/4 view they are elegant looking. The gas mileage does suck, I get 12 open road and it only seems to like Exxon premium. If you want a 107 that is really affordable and has some character an SLC is a good way to go. It would be nice if Pierre was a little closer to WV, finding shops that can work on these cars is tough.

Pierre, I very much appreciate your videos and they have been invaluable in helping me gradually get my "rescue" 450 SL (a 1976 California spec with about 133K) back to good health - it runs extremely well right now with a few things still on my to do list. To my surprise, my wife has caught on to my enthusiasm for these wonderful vehicles and, although I love open air driving when I can, the car is also very enjoyable with the hard top. I think at some point I'll find an SLC for her, once I have something to spare in my pocketbook. But one thing caught my attention - I'm 6'2" and have no problems sitting in my car with either top. Your comment makes me think my seats must be sagging more than I thought. (Or you're that much taller). Any idea of what normal headroom should be?

SLC in PNW are like hen’s teeth. I saw more of them rotting at PnP than I have ever seen on the road. Nobody wants to work or fix one. An excess of R107, to the point values are low, but CL c107 sell as scrap.

The aluminum control arms (anti-squat /anti-dive rear end) were never an option. They were standard on all euro 4.5 (sl and slc), euro 380sl, 5.0, 4.2, and 5.6.

Hey Pierre I’m having trouble with my 1986 560sl. I’ve replaced the fuel pumps, fuel filter, fuel accumulator, EHA, all tank hoses, and the tank screen. It seems as though I have low fuel pressure. The car will crank and occasionally start but immediately shut off. When I crack a line on the fuel distributor fuel barley comes out which makes me suspect low pressure. Is there a way to test the pump relay? I can hear the pumps run for a few seconds when the key is in position 2. I’ve read it could be the fuel pressure regulator or fuel distributor not functioning properly but don’t know where to look next. Car will start and run fine with fuel or starting fluid in the intake but doesn’t start on its own.
