I personally think this video is slightly misleading due to a bias against combat and a bias in favor of building, but I agree with a good chunk of it too. The reason "enemies get harder after beating a boss" works in terraria is because after said boss is dead not only are anemies harder, but new ores, weapons and other tools also become available. if Minecraft gets harder after beating the dragon it should have lots of more content after that so eventualy the harder enemies are no longer hard

@@Wrekina15 tools and armor dont break, but beginning tools are painfully slow and even after you upgrade youre always going through the same thing as minecraft with you need iron to break diamond and diamond to break netherite, except in terraria its much longer because there are over 20 different ores in the game with offshoots like being able to make shroomite from chlorophyte so theres technically even more. so even though tools dont break thats more of a blessing given that there are so many tiers to work through and progress with. terraria also has shop npcs but with real money or coins, you drop that on death reguardless of difficulty, so a similar comparison would be losing your emeralds, or even just losing your xp levels, and maybe following terraria in that sense too making it so the difficulty modes like easy you have keepinv, medium you only lose your xp, and hard you drop everything

While I stand by a lot of the points I made in my video, such as feeling that the developers are holding back on making bigger changes to the game, I also just personally don't enjoy Minecraft that much nowadays and I believe that led me to be more critical of the game; I don't really play Minecraft enough for my opinion on the game to be that important. @@thehayze259 You mentioned the Warden being a boss. In my opinion the Warden doesn't count as a boss. While you may disagree, I think bosses absolutely require something in return for being beaten, and being able to sneak past it to collect swift sneak and a music disc isn't really what I mean. Beating the ender dragon grants you elytras and pretty much a whole new dimension, beating the wither grants you a wither star for a beacon, and raids (which I do consider a boss) gives you hero of the village and pretty damn good drops, not to mention it's a good challenge even in late game. But the Warden offers nothing, not even an achievement. I could be on board with the "you aren't meant to fight it in the first place" if by removing all the sensors and possibly cleansing the ancient cities or something you'd get a reward. It doesn't have to be anything big like the portal turning on, in my mind I could imagine maybe a new companion in the form of a baby warden which targets and kills enemies more efficiently, possibly from a distance using it's laser which would be useful against annoying mobs while you're building (yes, that includes phantoms) while not having to worry about them dying due to having more health. You could say this makes dogs practically useless but even with the new dog armor I doubt many people keep their dogs around for anything other than company. Ofcourse you'd only be able to get one warden pet per lost city so you wouldnt be able to make an army out of them. I feel like we're missing more protective pets as the only use for cats and parrots are to look cute

The thing with older Minecraft content, is that everything had both a practical and decorational usage. Nowadays most new content is much more useful for builders... like coppper. Other ores have both a practical use, but can also be used for deco, but copper is exclusively deco. Everything else is useless for some folk, me included.

    • @IceFireofVoid
      @IceFireofVoid 5 місяців тому +172

@alkimos55 This is hardly new. And copper isn't even a fair example because copper ingots can be used to craft lightning rods, spyglasses and archeology brushes. The copper blocks are decorative yeah but so are quartz blocks, and stone bricks. Every flower is decorative and had always been decorative until they added bees which flowers could be used to breed. You can craft dyes with flowers, but that gives you more decorative components. There's iron bars, which didn't have the functionality of fences because mobs could jump over them, like panes of glass. There's carpets. Minecraft has always been a game about building first. Complaining about new stuff *now* being build focused feels so cherry picked especially when we get so many new components for other aspects of the game each update like new structures to explore and new terrain generation, new components for Redstone, new auto farms, stuff like powdered snow that has multiple different uses very variable uses, new functionality for existing mobs like magma cubes dropping new light sources after frogs got added and we are getting a brand new weapon with completely exclusive mechanics in a couple weeks. Dripstone gave us infinite lava generation for the first time. As well as being a block that amplifies fall damage which has its own uses.
The entire aspect of Redstone is something I have never engaged with, and yet I wouldn't complain about it being there even if the only use Redstone dust ever had for me was extending the duration of potions, which is a system that very few people used but that I had always had a lot of fun with. I don't like PvP but there are entire PvP servers. I never liked the wolves in Minecraft but a lot of people love them. The thing with features that do not personally appeal to you in a game like this is that you have the freedom to not engage with them and the people who do like them get to still have fun. Saying things that are just flat out untrue about some of the updates and additions to the game just to justify why you personally do not like them is silly.

    • @alkimos55
      @alkimos55 5 місяців тому +24

@@IceFireofVoid All three things you listed, which can be made from copper, feel pretty useless to me, and most other folk. Granted, I didn't get to try the brushes yet... but the lightning rod is only used very rarely, maybe to coax some rare lightning interactions with certain mobs to happen more controllably... and the spyglass is rendered useless by zoom mods.
Quartz at least has the advantage of giving you a good amount of XP when mined, basically making it an easily sourcable XP ore. As for stone - it's stone. You'll end up with chests full of the stuff anyways, and bricks are nice to build with, even for someone who isn't that big into building.
Flowers are indeed majorly decorative, but since they've been in the game basically since forever, and stay out of your way, no one would complain about that.
And yes, iron bars, carpets, etc. are also very decorative, but were one of only few blocks that are purely deco. They added just enough deco to the block pallet of the game whilst now, all the new stuff is adding way too much of that, I feel like.
As for those new structures and features - I have never felt a reason to seek these out. Even Ocean Monuments, which have been in the game for a while, feel more like an annoyance, than a place worthy of seeking out...
It just feels like we're being giving solutions to non-existant problems.
I suppose the only good thing that came outta that is the dripstone-lava mechanic.
Redstone is one of the couple things I actually quite like, as it allows you to add a good amount of automation to the game. Aside of cheesy farms, I mean. Though I don't see a need for the sculk sensor... The deep dark is yet another biome I just avoid, and it gets quite in my way when I strip-mine, which just makes that whole thing an annoyance to me.
Oh yeah, PvP is often pretty crappy. I much prefer PvP that focuses on building, ironically enough. It's much more interesting to build fortresses, traps and defenses to fight with, rather than just getting into senseless slap-fights, or doing some dumb minigame... and yet that is the only popular PvP stuff, it seems.
I do agree that you have the freedom to simply not engage with the content you dislike - my point wasn't me trying to argue against that, either. It's just that in recent times, the game's updates have caused an evergrowing inbalance in all these flavors of content, and that naturally upsets some people.
And again, with how people play the game differently and enjoy things differently, they also make use of new features differently, and thus value those features differently. So when I say that a new item is useless, that is from my viewpoint. I totally understand that other people might find use in it, themselves.

I remember my friends first time playing it said “this feels like if minecraft survival mode actually felt like survival” and the game still follows minecrafts simple progression and sometimes simpler. In Dont starve the armor is so simple its either you aren’t wearing it so you are weak or you are and no longer get deleted, there’s only 2 sets of tools and the upgraded one is optional and you can get the best items in the game in caves on day one if you rush to it. but the game also has mountains of content that again is mostly optional but useful to your survival you end up seeking it out. MC adding trial chambers feels like that first step in a proper direction and having maces and wind charges that don’t replace any existing item and have unique uses is what the game needs. I also hope MC continues this path because recent dont starve updates seem like the devs are falling into the terraria vertical progression hole with adding a “hard mode” and gear specifically for it and that new direction worries me. Terraria works well with that because it was built for it, not all games need that

The only thing Jeb really does better that could improve on notches idea other than his ideas for exploration is his whole “more unique, not better” rule when it comes to tools, weapons, and armor. But notches version of Minecraft was definitely a more of like an exploration sandbox game with moderate rpg elements kinda like Terraria is rn
I don’t want it to be exactly terraria, but I do want more bosses and reasons to explore and feel like I’m progressing the game a bit more. Pretty much I just want more stuff to do in a single player world to keep me motivated on playing. It doesn’t have to be complex, or incredibly unique because I think the simplicity is part of its dna and I just want more reason to explore.
I’d even be happy if they just added the content from the spin off games like dungeons, legends, earth and story mode

Terraria is an amazing game (play it) but minecraft should not be Terraria. Terraria is based on beating bosses and using the resources unlocked to beat bosses you couldn’t have earlier, which doesnt make sense in a game with 2 bosses. This prompted me to create a part 2 to that video which more or less states that I was super uncharitable to Minecraft, though I do still believe most solutions proposed in that original video are good as evident that 1.21 has a lot of features that lean toward some of the solutions I mention.

You can spend time building nice structures, but that isn't the primary focus - the focus is getting gear, to fight a boss, to get even better gear, to fight an even harder boss, repeat until you are essentially an unkillable god. There's nothing wrong with that, that is an extremely fun gameplay loop that has been around since video games first came to home consoles. But it's a fundamentally different game than Minecraft. Minecraft isn't about becoming super strong and beating insanely difficult bosses, although the choice is still there (just like how in terraria, you still have the choice to just focus on making pretty builds) for players who want it. But it's not the focus

It sucks to spend 30$ on a game you end up not liking, but it happens sometimes, that's just a risk of buying a video game, you don't have to also waste time on it if you don't like it. If you like Terrarria, play that instead. If you the old Minecraft, the betas the alphas whatever, play that instead, they make it pretty easy to play old versions on the official launcher. If you specifically want to play /modern Minecraft/ with specific features, there's probably a mod for it. Is Minecraft a flawless game? Absolutely not. 11:19 As someone who has played Terraria as long as she has played Minecraft, your argument against Jet's point is flawed in some ways, but that is because you haven't played the game.
Here's an argument against Jet's idea from someone who knows how these two games differ.
The reason why Terraria adds more difficult enemies after defeating a certain boss and why Minecraft can't just upgrade enemies to be harder after defeating the dragon is because that certain boss in Terraria isn't the last boss of the game.
Terraria is basically split into two halves "Normal mode" and "Hard mode", defeating a certain boss triggers hard mode, which is the stage of the game that adds thous more difficult enemies, however hard mode adds more bosses and item upgrades. It's literally a second half of the game.
If you were to never kill this one specific boss that triggers hard mode, you could be as op as you can be in minecraft at the point when you have full enchanted set of diamond tools and armor. You can never step into hardmode and just build in peace if you'd like, in that sense the final stages of normal mode of Terraria is just regular minecraft.
And when you've beaten hardmode you are arguably even more op and no enemies(not including a extra challenge form of a boss that can instakill you with every attack)can stand a chance against you.
So in order to fix minecraft according to Jet, the devs would have to add another further end goal, at least the same amount of new armor upgrades as exist in regular minecraft and powercreep every item and utility tool that exist in base minecraft.
That's not something that even a "nether update" sized update could do and would not be expected to do.
(Tldr. Jet's idea of upgrading mobs to be harder after beating the dragon would require Mojang to add a second half to Minecraft worth multiple updates and if this would not be done then people would have far more incentive to avoid the dragon all together and not even engage with the end, not including speedrunners who would try do some kind of halfway%run, since there would be a second half to minecraft)
Minecraft and Terraria are both great games, however they are also two distinct games that are great for their own reasons.

Those two points at the end are perfectly valid. They are technically in the game in the form of shulker boxes and lava bins but they could always be more efficient like how the backpack mod solves inventory problems. One thing that absolutely should be in minecraft and more games for that matter is the quick stack feature. You can get a mod for it but it really should be in vanilla, it's a no-brainer.

      Exactly!
Especially since shulkers are an end game item, so an early game equivalent would be welcomed.
Like I guess ender chests and the upcoming bundle are sorta like that, but bundles can't hold enough things from my experience(maby if they made them be able to hold 2-3 stacks, then maby?) and don't have a convenient way to empty them, so they can't function in a similar role.
Ender chests on the other hand are too costly to constantly make and otherwise require an enchantment to mine, which takes up two slots from the inventory if you are already committed to a fortune pickaxe.
Maby something like a backpack, but different or minecrafty, could help with that.
Oh, and I 100% agree with quick stack!

It would give copper yet another practical use, and it would be worth getting for the small inventory extension until you're finally able to upgrade to shulker boxes at end game.

Your idea for a potential candidate is really good too.
A hotbar amount of space is the perfect balance for storage you can carry, which can't compete with shulker boxes.
Copper also feels like a "trinket" metal, with it currently being used for more low-tech items compared to iron(spyglass, brush and lightning rod), so it wouldn't feel like a forced implementation of copper into a recipe like some other concepts feel like.

14:00 It works well in Terraria because almost everyone plays the game with a softcore character (analogous to Minecraft's keep inventory). Also, the main spike in global enemy strength is roughly halfway through progression, not at the end, and it coincides with the player gaining access to much more powerful gear. Besides, Terraria is by design a much more difficult, combat-focused game than Minecraft, and familiar players go into it expecting some struggles, at least at the higher difficulty settings.

If you'd want to introduce a Hard Mode in Minecraft, you could do it per player once they visit the Nether for the first time, creating 'hard' mobs that require diamond or netherite to be effectively killed. The thing in Minecraft hower is that the tougher challenges mainly lie in dungeons and triggered events, allowing the player to prepare and opt in. Placing the 'hard mode' after the Dragon could also work but then the harder mobs should be more killable using the elytra and possibly another kind of (hopefully interesting) gear. For example in an end theme, I would love to have a weapon that levitates ground mobs into the air or allows you to have dog fights with (slightly bigger, when you stay up for an even longer period) phantoms.

Why do people always discredit and devalue art?

It really seems like the videos are one of three things:
    1. older players nostalgic for 2009-2014 minecraft, usually by people who stopped playing during the game's drop in popularity and are now coming back to a game with way more features than they remember, which makes them feel alienated, they usually complain about anything newer than a horse "feeling modded" which is a very hard to define subjective and unhelpful criticism that it's not exactly like mojang can do anything about except not add new features I guess
    2. younger players who don't remember minecraft's quiet period pre aquatic and think the updates of today are lazy because "6 new features?!?!?! that's 3 less than last year!!" not realising that updates this frequent and with this much stuff is pretty unusual for a sandbox game and even minecraft itself
    3. people who don't want to play a sandbox game, and fault minecraft for being one, suggesting that it become terraria or "just do what all these talented modders do"
    4. the bandwagoners who agree with the first three because it's fun and/or profitable to hate popular things, they might even levy all the exact same criticisms simeltaneously not realising how contradictory they are

I think the main thing is they want vertical progression which doesn’t fit minecraft. Progress is still important but MC works best with horizontal progression to fit into what’s already at play. Like netherite being this new thing beyond diamonds was neat but it’s sole existence is be better than other thing and that’s its only use which is boring in minecraft. Items like the mace and even the trident fill a unique purpose that will have them always be relevant to some players. If there’s any game that should have some inspiration taken from it it’s dont starve cause they have been doing this same progression for years that compliments a more free form sandbox than terraria of choosing class than upgrading and replacing your weapon and armor 30 times till the endgame

The thing is, a lot of people dislike the perverse incentives. Remember: players will optimise the fun out of the game.
Also who the hell added phantoms? They make sleeping mandatory.
I've been playing minecraft with structures turned off, player sleeping percentage at 101 and then disabled phantom spawns, because they're the single least fun thing to be added to the game. And you know what? It's been pretty fun. It has the lonely feel of classic minecraft I vaguely remember. It might be placebo, but I think that people dislike minecraft because the soul of minecraft from before adventure, the feeling of it being YOUR world is gone. You HAVE to find a village you HAVE to make villagers into slaves. If you don't, you're playing suboptimally. And the voice at the back of your head will remind you of it. I would recommend watching CarlSagen42's first time blind play-through of minecraft, as well as RTgame's recent let's play of the game. Seeing people experience minecraft for the first time reminded me of when I first played minecraft, years ago. There's still that sense of wonder and amazement and exploration. Carl's playthrough reminded me of how much knowledge I assume is baseline that new people just don't know, and how much discovery, progress and exploration there is in the game. Veteran players are probably so used to knowing the game so well, that of course that new-world wonder is mostly gone, but its still there.
And RT's playthrough was not blind, he knew about minecraft and how things worked, he just hadn't actually played survival in years. But there was still wonder and exploration in it. Discovering the new terrain, making a story with chat, discovering the bosses and taking them down one-by-one. It felt incredibly rewarding, and even dramatic at a moment.
I think the best way to approach minecraft if you feel it is becoming boring is to try and find a way to look at it with a fresh pair of eyes, and see that the wonder is still there. We've just grown accustomed to it.

      Like the video said
Are you just playing Minecraft just to beat the ender dragon or to have fun?
You can literally do whatever you want
I agree that structures and biomes and stuff could be worked on and that there should be a bit more incentive to actually find these biomes and structures, but the game isn't meant to be an mmo RPG or beat em up game
This game is meant for creativity. The motto is literally "Build, explore"
There is criticism to be had for Minecraft, but the progression for tools and armor is meant to be simple for a reason, hostile mobs don't get more difficult as time goes on because that's not the point of why you're playing Minecraft
If you want to make these experiences, you can make it. Minecraft is supposed to be simple, not overwhelming and difficult
If you wanted this experience, you can have mods or data packs or make challenges for yourself without adding new content from mods or data packs. It's endless on what you can do
Minecraft is a BASE for what your mind can extend from. You can do ANYTHING
But for what I'll say, you do have a point that these Minecraft players should get stuff too, but Minecraft should not add more difficulty or more overwhelming stuff into the game because the hardcore players want stuff. Then other players wouldn't enjoy the game because Mojang adds something too difficult
There needs to be a balance of simplicity and difficulty. The more you cater to the other, the more the other group will hate it. So no matter what, people will be mad

That's my main criticism of mainstream Minecraft content creators.

  • @DarkSlayerJ

It seems like Jet focused only on the combat and "beating the game" portion of the game as you said, leaving everything else out completely. You can't take one section of a game like that and judge the entire thing. That's flawed at its core. Combat is a portion of the game, a decently sized one even, but it's not the only one nor is it the main focus. It's just a part of the whole. However, when they added the End Dragon fight, they did accidently put that mindset out there and validate it to a degree. "If the game isn't about the combat, then why is there an end focused on combat?"
I do agree that the combat could maybe use a tiny touch up again. I'm one of the "crazy" ones that enjoyed it greatly after the first update, as for PvE I was completely uninterested in fighting things as it all boiled down to clicking as fast as you could. No thank you. What we got was a nice change, but could use some other changes to really make it work better all around. Though I doubt that would be enough to satisfy anyone that focuses just on the combat.
To those that do, they should really try adventure maps focused around combat. Minecraft is a creative game and can be so many things. They're always making changes and updates to backend stuff that allow for map makers to truly go wild, yet I never really hear anyone talk about those things in a positive light past "Idk what that is or why I should care or why they're wasting their time on it." or "Huh, neat."
I lost my point somewhere. It's almost 3:20am lol Good video, my only critique is that you could maybe use a few bits to take the perspective of them further into account. You do to a degree, but mostly in a negative light, falling into the same trappings they did by saying the game "Isn't about the combat" when that's only partially true. The progression and combat are parts that do mater, but they're all part of a greater whole that make the game Minecraft. Taking any part out and just focusing on that in "standard play" ruins it.
One final take on Minecraft "Being boring" or "Too easy" to people is that they always seem to forget. They've been playing this game for years. Or at the very least passively learning about it all the time through some other means if they've had any real interest in it before picking it up. That will always change how "difficult" a game is to someone along side their natural ability to pick up and learn a game. I've been playing since....whenever you used to break a block next to water and it would either flood everything or make weird water particles and start self deleting over time. This game is nearly second nature to some people. That's going to make it easier. The end. That might also make it "boring" to those that just have played so much of it and have grown with it and changed over the years. It's okay to move on, nothing lasts forever.

I think one of Minecraft's biggest problems is being the most popular game ever. It has a very diverse playerbase: builders, PVPers, redstoners and highly technical side (see: Scicraft) and people who like exploration. This means that not every update can appease every group.
Being the most popular game also means it attracts the worst crowd - "serious gamers". Speaking from my lived experience, these people lack any kind of creativity, not only in games but also when it comes to everything in their lives and themselves. Minecraft is not a game for everyone and that's ok. No game is. But for some reason these people just NEED to have an opinion on it and express it.
And as people mentioned: the way to fix all of their problems is mods. Minecraft has a rich and giant modding scene and it's all FREE. Want harder mobs and new armour types? Try born in chaos or similar mods.
And this goes for every type of player. Want new passive mobs and more to explore? Alex's mobs and caves, Jung's better structures mods and mods that add new biomes.
Add furniture and clutter for interior decoration with Moa decor and dozens of others. New and expansive engeering? Create got you covered. Try new farming and a billion different food recepies with Croptopia.
Playing on a heavily moded server myself felt like exploring a whole new game. I don't understand why people are so allergic to mods. I suppose there is a point to be made about the majority of the playerbase playing on Bedrock, which doesn't have mod support but that's a different conversation.

I think there is a problem since players tend to optimize the fun out of games to play by the meta. And minecraft makes it real easy to optimize the fun out of it, with the biggest problem being villagers. They make it too easy to get every enchantment. So thats what most people do. They focus on the extrinsic motivation until the upgraded everything, beat the dragon to get an elytra and then the game stops throwing extrinsic goals at the players and with their intrinsic motivation being gone they tend to quit the world shortly after. I think Minecraft Ideas Academy has done some good critiques addressing the Problem of extrinsic motivation minecraft provides. But otherwise minecraft is a great game, but playing multiplayer can be demotivating when everyone plays by the meta.

I do think villagers are pretty poorly designed in some ways. The villager changes in the past year or so might be the single most important tweak Mojang has made in years.
Instead of being able to get mending and unbreaking from librarians super easily, you can only get them from villagers that spawn in swamps and jungles... the two places villages DON'T naturally generate. So if you want them, you have to take villagers there, possibly hundreds of blocks away, and breed them. It's a cool way of both making it harder and also encouraging adventuring.

  • @Davedave000

My major beef with Minecraft is villager mechanics specifically. It's something I don't see people bring up if at all, but I think villages and the core mechanics revolving around villagers are just plain bad game design. With how Mojang regards them, it feels like the intent behind them is that you're supposed to let them do their own thing in their little village and occasionally build new houses for the babies. The problem is that if you do leave them to their own devices there's like a 99% chance they get wiped out overnight.
Since some of their trades are so powerful you can't just leave them to perish, so what players actually end up doing is abduct two of them using jank mechanics since the devs really don't want you transporting them, stuff them in a box full of food and force them to breed, then filter the new villagers into 1x1 boxes with a lectern/fletching table/whatever workspace you want in order to force them into a specific profession and prevent them from moving around. It's a pain in the ass to actually do and the result is that you end up with pretty much everyone making the exact same hall of living kiosks with the only variance being the type of blocks they used to build it.
Oh, and they have this god awful 'realism' mechanic where if you buy too much of a certain trade they bump up the price, so you actually need to put a zombie under the floor so that you can drop the villager down and get it zombified so you can cure it and make it lower its prices. Keep in mind; Mojang wants you to treat these particular mobs like they're people and the meta surrounding them is to entrap, enslave and subject them to cruel and unusual conditions.
The villager trade rebalances don't fix this at all. In fact they only exasperate this by forcing you to transport villagers using jank mechanics to a niche biome that likely isn't anywhere near your initial spawn point, and effectively force you to set up camp in that very specific biome which effectively guts your ability to make anything that doesn't explicitly fit a swampland aesthetic. It's still a tedious chore to build the villager breeder and corral the newborns into their life-long prison cells. So it's honestly no wonder why people are saying the game's shit now. They're stuck doing this god awful busy-work every time they make a new world instead of playing the actual game.

    • @Davedave000
      @Davedave000 5 місяців тому +29

@@hothdog Yeah. The only thing that fixes is how annoying they are to transport, and even then it's only marginally so. I think leashing boats was only added for parity's sake. If the intent was to let you transport villagers, then they would've let you put them on camels instead.
Even if they did that though, that only solves the logistics of transportation. Every other problem is either neglected or exacerbated. Villager mechanics are still obtuse and trades are not only still up to the whims of RNG but are also biome exclusive, which means more time building villager breeders and trading halls and less time doing any of the fun stuff like spelunking caves or exploring those new structures they're adding.
The rebalance is a band-aid fix on a broken, poorly designed system that just doesn't work, and will likely never work. If Mojang really wanted to fix it, they should consider completely gutting it and redesign the entire concept from the ground up.

I do agree, But also I feel like this is only really a problem for a specific type of playstyle, I personally am usually content to just set up near a village, Protect them from any threats, And just trade if any of them happen to have trades I find interesting, Frankly I _hate_ the meta of kidnapping villagers and messing with them until you get the trade you want, And don't see why people would do it, To me the tediousness of doing that (And the lack of fun created by having villagers imprisoned in tiny boxes rather than living in proper houses) is far greater than the advantage being able to get one specific enchantment or whatever adds, Especially as to my knowledge very few (If any) items are even villager-exclusives anyway?

Perhaps it's because I rarely enter the "Late-Game" where I even have full-diamond equipment, But I for one don't care much about having maxed out enchantments on all my equipment or whatnot, Even when I do want a specific enchant, Such as Frost Walker (One of my favourite enchants) or Mending, I'm more than content to just explore the world until I come across it, As that is simply far more enjoyable than kidnapping villagers and setting up a trading hall.

The change that jet proposed of mobs becoming stronger once the dragon was defeated was most likely inspired by the Wall of Flesh (WoF for short) in terraria. When you kill the WoF in terraria the game transitions into a new game state that people call "Hardmode", in which basic monsters (Pre-Hardmode enemies) get their stats buffed, and new, more dangerous mobs start to spawn.

One thing I just want to tangentially mention because I really like to share as an example. I really like Minecraft and I have appreciated it for years, but I remember when villager trading was buffed and I realized how easy it was to get Diamond Gear from them, this didn’t make diamond stuff not valuable, far from it: but it made Diamonds themselves, the item you mainly got from mining (cause loot chests mainly give you gear (diamond or not) rather than raw diamonds) now that important.
But then, in 1.19, they added the upgrade template, and after some time I realized: Diamonds are now basically required to get lots of the best tools in the game because templates spawn in finite numbers, (to make the rest of the game easier), it’s no longer “I need to mine for diamonds to get the best tools: diamond armor”,’ it’s “I need to mine for diamonds so i can make a template to upgrade my stuff into the best tools in the game: netherite”.
It’s not 100% the same but it doesn’t need to: Minecraft improved on itself and fixed an issue I had with it in a unique way, binding it other mechanics (netherite and gold) while also further strengthening the exploration aspect of Minecraft, and they do this a lot; but this is my favorite example of it.

It's not about fighting a bunch of bosses and getting lots of new equipment, it's all about letting the player do whatever they want in a large world. If you do want to fight monsters and bosses, Minecraft has plenty of structures and events (like bastions, raids, and the new trial chambers), but if you just want to build, Minecraft provides a lot of blocks and tools for that. I’ve played very little of vanilla Minecraft, as I got into modded very early. Even in that sense, Minecraft has improved a ton. A lot of this is due to community creativity (the Create mod is an absolute legend), but the core game itself has improved massively as a base for modding.
One example: the Nether update was terrific for improving the vanilla Nether, and I noticed the quality of End biome mods also seemed to drastically improve afterwards. Perhaps mod makers took inspiration or followed design principles that the devs used for the awesome Nether update.
And while there were many cave update mods before Caves and Cliffs, there’s no argument that modded caves are better than ever. It’s like a free cave update mod for every modpack!

As someone who is funnily enough playing Terraria as im watching this funnily enough I definitely agree with your assesment of the whole "Terraria did this" part. The thing with comparing Terraria and Minecraft is that while they obviously look similar to eachother (apart from the 2D vs 3D thing) they are VASTLY different when it comes to the actual playing experience. Minecraft is mainly focused on intrinsic motivation and building with combat elements and some more extrinsic goals while Terraria is literally the exact opposite focusing mainly on combat and the extrinsic motivation of killing stronger bosses with some building and more intrinsically motivated stuff on the side.
Also the thing to note about the whole "Enemies should get stronger" part is that in Terraria the point at which that happens is a bit less than halfway through the games progression meaning that while the enemies do become significantly more difficult you as the player also has a lot of room to scale with those more difficult enemies. Also in Terraria you (by default) only drop coins upon death which is effectively its version of experience meaning you really dont have to retrieve your stuff if you happen to get killed by a strong enemy deep underground.
Also Terraria is great and I definitely recommend it and its building is pretty fun even though it isnt the focus and while I dont think Hardmode isnt something I think Minecraft should have there are definitely things in it like its much more varied arsenal of weaponry that I do think Minecraft could take a bit from to have a bit more variation in combat when it does come up.

I think the main issue that most people experience is that Minecraft is a sandbox with adventure/rpg elements, which allows people who like adventure/rpg games to come in and have their fun, but after they've done all the exploring and gone through all the gear upgrades, they realize that Minecraft was never actually a full adventure/rpg experience, so it doesn't have anything else for them. For people who like the game to offer a path to follow, Minecraft doesn't do that for very long, so then you're just left with a standard sandbox experience. I think the game should either expand more on these adventure/rpg elements or make it somewhat clearer to the player that those elements aren't what the game is, so you don't waste your time with an unfinished experience if all you want is exploration and rpg.

also an idea ive heard is that they could intertwine the adventure and sandbox elements more, maybe so that engaging in the sandbox elements (but doing more than just building a 1 block cobblestone bridge or the basic things like make a starter base) becomes a significant aid to progression.
i'm struggling to think of specific examples other than like maybe more strongly incentivizing building infrastructure between places. maybe somehow making it important to set up a base in the end before exploring the end islands, could be an example. or making it more necessary to fortify certain areas if you want to explore there
