It would've been really cool! Maki is still a great add (especially since it led to her being very slightly more prominent in the SF universe), but still.
I always thought it was interesting when characters have supers or special moves that uses another legacy character. Like Yun's super in CVS2 where Yang jumps in and helps him. Makes me think they possibly eft more assets of those characters hidden in the game and scrapped them.
That's a pretty interesting possibility! I know for sure the assets for Batsu and Hinata in Kyosuke's super is all that exist for them in the data, but I'm not sure about Yang. There's some concept art for Hayato in MvC2 showing that June was supposed to either show up in a super or in a special move for him, though at least one of those sprites stuck around for his win pose.
Breath of fire is one of my all time favorite RPGs and it makes me so sad that Capcom wasn’t willing to give Nina or Foulu a chance. The excuse of the west wont recognizs them is very silly. Most people I played with only knew Ryu and Spiderman. The casual audience doesn’t know like 75% of the roster.
Yeah, it's a funny explanation considering this is a series famous for giving even the most obscure characters (Jin, Shuma, Hayato, etc.) a fanbase. All a character really needs to be is cool to be memorable!
Yeah MvC2 was one of the first video games i ever played and at that point the only characters I knew of on Marvel's end were just Spiderman, Hulk and a couple X-Men. And it was my introduction to Capcom just... In general outside of Power Stone lol. Idk why they think a few character not being recognizable is an issue, when this could be the title that MAKES them recognized and even mainstay favs
Fou-Lu would have been my main if he was included. Being able to see the antagonist's journey in BoF IV was really memorable and made him a much more interesting character overall. His personality and power level were on full didplay.
There's a part of me wishing for a huge content leak of capcom content including this Vs stuff. But also the legends 3 demo and street fighter ex content.. Also, I had no idea TvS was focused on main characters in relation to its roster! That's very interesting considering megaman volnutt/trigger was featured instead of classic megaman.
It seems like Marvel 3 aside, they generally like to use one main Megaman per game and then stick in supporting characters. That said, it doesn't surprise me that Volnutt in particular was chosen, considering the Legends games are probably second only to Classic Megaman in terms of wearing its Tatsunoko influences on its sleeve. The Bonne family are send ups of the Skull Trio in Time Bokan, and Volnutt was even revealed for TvC alongside Doronjo!
@@TheSeventhForce Also, CvS didn’t have Megaman at all (SvC Chaos had MMZ, who was a main character) and both of MvC3’s picks had been main characters in their own games.
It is interesting that we finally got some more news about cut characters in fighting games and the fact that the vanilla version got a re-release build makes me wonder if other fighting games could get a re-release build and we could find more cut content such as characters, stages, modes etc also maybe hackers can try and take the model and reprogram it to make him playable like how they did with Mewtwo in Super Smash Bros Brawl who was cut from that game.
I must say, Street Fighter 3 held out for quite a while in terms of relevancy. Alex making it into TVC, and Gill being planned for MVC3. I hope Alex returns one day, I think he's a good protagonist (if underlooked. Although with Luke & friends being the new 'New Generation' I can't see Alex making any big comebacks. I can hope, at least!)
Yeah, as far as the series trying new protagonists go, he's one of my favorites (Rashid's pretty great, too). If we're somehow fortunate enough to get a new Vs. game, I imagine there'd probably be a SF6 character over SF3 (more than likely either Luke or Kimberly; the latter I'd actually be really happy about).
If we get a fighter-centric crossover we are likely to get some representation like in SFxT or CvS2. The closest thing to them being in a traditional Vs. series context have been TvC as you mentioned as well as Pocket Fighter and SvC Chaos. SFV has yet to even get in a fighter-centric crossover.
@@TheLightBringerX I honestly wish modern games would dial it back, as I don’t like the game being about landing long combos tbh. SF3 isn’t my favorite series but there’s a lot of cool characters. Hope we see some characters from 3 in another VS game (Alex and Remy pleeeaaase)
And also in the background of a SF3 stage! I think small unnamed background cameos probably gave Capcom enough plausible deniability to sneak her in there without getting in trouble.
Thank you! Those two are two of my favorites in the FGC space too, they do fantastic work covering overlooked topics. It's always a great day when either of them drop a video.
I gotta it’s so awesome how much you know stuff! It’s cool how you’re so knowledgeable and practically a fan of everything. On top of Marvel, SNK, and of course Street Fighter and countless Capcom IPs, you know your Breath of Fire, Tatsunoko IPs, Monster Hunter, etc. Major props.
really love how the vs. series was where cammy's killer bee outfit originated/karin almost being introduced there & wish we had seen the bof characters in mvc3 alongside all the other capcom picks as the best thing to me about marvel vs. capcom back then was the new capcom characters.(if dr. octopus ever got in love if they used his theme or a new arrangement.)
That does make things considerably easier, yeah. Though a re-release of Alien Vs. Predator would be sweet, too. Only way to get it these days is buying that big arcade stick with pre-loaded games Capcom put out a while back.
1:53 BOOM! here she's that is Karin Kanzuki beta from Marvel Super Heroes Vs. Street Fighter sprites march 1997 after street fighter alpha 3 june 1998 band new character is Karin Kanzuki born most perfect work.
There were 2 characters who were cut from UMvC3 that made it into the development phase and were almost close to complete until the unfortunate circumstance in 2011 that resulted in them getting cut those characters being Luke Cage & Jon Talbain
I'm actually kinda curious about how doc Oct would have played tbh, I've never played a breath of fire game but I've seen what the characters look like and man I would have interested to see an rpg character in mvc
A MvC equivalent of Hyper Street Fighter II/Alpha built off of MvC2 is something I've always thought would be cool, though it'd probably be unfeasible for a number of reasons. From a technical standpoint, my understanding is that MvC2's underlying source code is kind of a mess that tangles itself in knots the more you try to untangle it, probably due to years of building on top of other Vs. games (Even CvS1 has leftover MvC2 code/assets in it!) The studio that ported it to PS3/360 way back when had an interesting interview about it some years ago.
Sorry! 😅The plan actually was to have this out by 6pm EST, but ran into some major issues with my editing program during the rending process that I spent the afternoon sorting out.
@@TheSeventhForce Just finished the video. Comfy ass, good ass video as usual! And seeing that Doc Oct got my cock as hard as a rock. Uncovering 3D renders of unused characters is like seeing a dinosaur in real life, its insane!
I gosh dangit hate that Fou-Lu was cut from MvC3 for such half assed excuse. I know Ryu would be an weird addition because he shares the name with Ryu... from Streets, but Fou-Lu would've been a perfect substitute knowing how Breath of Fire 4 goes.
I mean, they could possibly find a way to differentiate him name wise, like if BoF3 Ryu got into a crossover, they could go with Ryu (Brood) or something. MvC3 had two Phoenixes, after all. Fou-Lu would've been a great compromise given his relation to BoF4's Ryu though, yeah.
@@TheSeventhForce Considering the number of licensable and even indie characters appearing in other games, I think that an 'Everyone is here' scenario could be possible. ^_^ ,b And, considering how some conglomerates(' products) are doing these days, I'm sure that some 'good will' would be beneficial in the(ir) long run. ~_^ Still, would you want - characters like Mario, Creepie Creecher, Breakbone (from Kayko & Kokosh) and Pico (from Newgrounds) in (a heavily expanded version of) Smash or Jump Ultimate Stars? - Megas XLR, Dy-Na-Mo (from Powerpuff Girls), a giant Solid Tin Coyote (from a certain Road Runner short) and various Transformers in a Super Robot Wars title? - all of the above and many other cartoon/anime, comic book/manga and video game characters appearing in a jRPG, racing game or other 'infinitely expandable' game( type)? Considering what's been happening over the last several years (if not decades), having Garfield meet Snoopy and Sonic (and/or some Freedom Fighters) crush some Daleks wouldn't be unwelcome. ^_^ The (im)possibilites are truly endless.
I've always find it strange how Capcom created the Punisher arcade game but never put him in a Marvel Vs Capcom Title that also goes for Power Stone character's which power stone character's where going to be in both Marvel Vs Capcom 3 and Tatsunoko Vs Capcom.
Something I have hope yet. May Itsuno(or some fierce renowed In-Capcom producer involved in FG) produce a new Capcom's Characters Between VS Fight Game with MVCs-like mechanics system. This surely would make Capcom more freedom to explore the lore and content, even the entry and existence of its characters in Games like this situations. I hope that all Crossover Series Capcom mades with other Universes can be a "homework" to it.
Yeah, with folks like Neo_G, Niitsuma and Ryota Suzuki off at different companies these days, Itsuno's one of the few fighting game producers from the old guard still at the company. I'd love to see one more fighting game from him before he eventually retires. (Still looking forward to Dragon's Dogma II, though!)
Extra note: There's some similarities between Rival Schools' and MVC's System Engine. Itsuno may not been involved on MVC but he has the exact expirience to move on this "future" project.
I really wonder what they were cooking with him. One thing I don't think TvC and MvC3 get enough credit for is how many characters in both games manage to have character specific unique mechanics that compliment the character's playstyle instead of being overly gimmicky.
Let it be known that a meeting between Buraiking Boss, Sigma, and M. Bison would be the greatest match made in Hell such an idea absolutely terrifies me.
Part of me wishes Punisher would be playable. I mean, he was the first Marvel game Capcom did, creating the working relationship. But I also like it when Frank is in his own dark little corner of the Marvel universe. I wouldn’t mind him standing in the background of a stage. Or is he was one of the captured characters in the Apocalypse stage.
I think the reason why Nina and Fou-Lu are not in Marvel vs. Capcom 3 is stupid. Crossover games should be a mixture of characters from popular series, classic series, and lesser-known series.
Finding out Nina was so close... And BOF1 Nina being my favorite design among them all at that. I need to slap a Capcom dev upside the head someday. Don't appreciate the SonSon shade though lol
Lol, nothing personal against SonSon (and I appreciate her inclusion and what she represents all the same!), I'm just surprised at some of the series that got into the series instead of BoF.
Call me naive or whatever, but I still hope to see a new Marvel VS Capcom game in the franchise. I would buy even a Marvel VS Capcom with all the characters from X-Men Children of the Atom all the way to Marvel VS Capcom Infinite. ❤❤❤
Honestly? I'm mulling over expanding to crossover games in general if there's enough interest. That said, I'd actually have to see if there's any known cut content for those games. Would be interesting though, I'm nearing the end of a Project X Zone playthrough, incidentally!
Doc Ock as a secret character in the new collection maybe?🤔 Also Disney owns Alien and Predator rights now, a brawler collection with AvP would be sweet!🤓
Arthur I think deserves his place since he's a classic Capcom IP that also should've been playable waaay before MvC3, but I'd take Nina over Frank, yeah. TvC has my favorite version of Frank, anyhow.
It's the title screen background for Marvel Vs Capcom 1! The Dreamcast version uses it as it's main menu background as well; I use it as a general background in most videos about the Vs. games.
Yep. If I'm recalling right, Ultimate in particular was originally going to be a DLC expansion w/ a disc release similar to how Street Fighter IV handled expansions from Super onwards. It was a one-two combo of the earthquake affecting development and Capcom higher-ups wanting the update out by Fall 2011. Niitsuma's on record saying that if not for that latter point in particular, there'd have likely been close to twice the amount of new characters added to Ultimate.
It's a damn shame Linn Kurosawa could've part of her playable Capcom legacy. Her moveset from AvP could've implement there from her special moves, hell, shouting her moves is also present there as well. What a missed opportunity.
Ive never in my life heard of Tatsunoko vs Capcom! I looked it up and I've only ever heard of like, 1/3 of the fighters in that game, and they're all capcom side lol
One thing that I'm noticing is that alot of the banned Marvel Characters mention have tricky background issues such as FF4 and Howard the Duck. Both creators have sued Marbel for the rights
10:05 bro the real character that was robbed from this list is Masamune Date from Sengoku Basara. The Sengoku Basara fans wanted some representation in the VS games for years and it never happened. Gene from God Hand is another character that never made it even when is a "God" fighter in his game.
IIRC, they tried to get Date for MvC3 as well, but that time the team in charge of Sengoku Basara straight up said they'd rather not have him in it; same thing happened with Monster Hunter in MvC3 as well.
Hmm, I always did thought that Breathe of Fire lack any representation in the Capcom crossover games. Now, I know that Nina was almost in Marvel vs. Capcom 3... Also, cool to know that MvC3 Doc Ock would've had his classic John Romita/Ross Andru design. Minor cristicism is that the music is too loud and it kind of makes it hard to hear your dialogue.
Thanks for the feedback. Is there any portion of the video in particular where the music overpowered me? I try to have the music pretty low as is, so I'll tweak them further for my next video.
Leaving out breath of fire seems like a huge missed opportunity, they put in Sonson and Strider Hiryu, characters from games pretty subpar even back then which I believe people at most played their games for 10 minutes out of sheer curiosity, instead, a Breath of Fire character would easily boost sales if they released a Breath of Fire collection. I would prefer Bleu, though
Idk how popular SonSon was back in the day, but the first arcade Strider game was absolutely a big deal when it released. That said (and maybe I should've mentioned this in the video) we were actually told which UMVC3 character Nina lost her prospective slot to: Firebrand.

i feel like Breath of Fire characters should've been used in SNK vs CAPCOM and Tatsuno VS Capcom series, but Crapcum is st p i d now a days, and as the choice of Karin Kanzuki being left out in Marvel Super Heroes vs Street Fighter was better a better choice, had we gotten the same sprite as Sakura and no real back story to her, like they did for her in SFAlpha 3? it would've been the same Ryu and Ken knock offs.... and it was a better well decision. don't believe me? take a look at Goku in DBZ series, instead of new characters from the rosters to pick and see from, we have so many f king copies of Goku and it literately irritated the idea, it's the same character.... yeah it's a st u p d idea...

@@TheSeventhForce I didn't know that regarding Hayato, that would've been interesting. Excellent video as always btw!👍
@@marlz11 Thank you!
@@TheSeventhForce
Also, CvS didn’t have Megaman at all (SvC Chaos had MMZ, who was a main character) and both of MvC3’s picks had been main characters in their own games.
@@TheLightBringerX I agree wholeheartedly, in all honesty. I’d say the 3S cast ironically might be more popular now than they were back then.
If your a fan of Alex I recommend the Street Fighter Unlimited comic series, He's one of the main protagonists of that book.
But Lynn made a cameo in SF Alpha 2 in the Ken's stage background.
And also in the background of a SF3 stage! I think small unnamed background cameos probably gave Capcom enough plausible deniability to sneak her in there without getting in trouble.
Another incredible vid! you Baberuthless, guilewinquote are my fave content creators when it comes to the FGC and deserve way more love
Thanks! I'm basically a well of useless trivia lol
@@TheSeventhForce Not useless to me! lol
really love how the vs. series was where cammy's killer bee outfit originated/karin almost being introduced there & wish we had seen the bof characters in mvc3 alongside all the other capcom picks as the best thing to me about marvel vs. capcom back then was the new capcom characters.(if dr. octopus ever got in love if they used his theme or a new arrangement.)
7:27 With Disney owning Fox and Marvel, maybe Linn appearing in a future Marvel VS Capcom isn't so far from reality.
That does make things considerably easier, yeah. Though a re-release of Alien Vs. Predator would be sweet, too. Only way to get it these days is buying that big arcade stick with pre-loaded games Capcom put out a while back.
Yeah, for sure. I'm still very salty Alien VS Predator wasn't included in the Capcom Beat 'em Up Collection.
1:53 BOOM! here she's that is Karin Kanzuki beta from Marvel Super Heroes Vs. Street Fighter sprites march 1997 after street fighter alpha 3 june 1998 band new character is Karin Kanzuki born most perfect work.
There were 2 characters who were cut from UMvC3 that made it into the development phase and were almost close to complete until the unfortunate circumstance in 2011 that resulted in them getting cut those characters being Luke Cage & Jon Talbain
man i could binge watch your VS game vids forever
I'm actually kinda curious about how doc Oct would have played tbh, I've never played a breath of fire game but I've seen what the characters look like and man I would have interested to see an rpg character in mvc
Probably some aspects of shuma Gorath and Omega Red
I've always held out hope for an official MVC2 remix/championship edition including all of the cast left out from SFA3 and Darkstalkers 3.
The MvC dream roster you were wanting is basically something similar to Card Fighter Clash 2, right?
A MvC equivalent of Hyper Street Fighter II/Alpha built off of MvC2 is something I've always thought would be cool, though it'd probably be unfeasible for a number of reasons.
From a technical standpoint, my understanding is that MvC2's underlying source code is kind of a mess that tangles itself in knots the more you try to untangle it, probably due to years of building on top of other Vs. games (Even CvS1 has leftover MvC2 code/assets in it!) The studio that ported it to PS3/360 way back when had an interesting interview about it some years ago.
Very Interesting, I had no idea just adding to the game would be so hard. @@TheSeventhForce
I was cooking some breakfast for dinner and this video came up on my radar at the perfect time. Thanks a bunch.
Hell yeah, breakfast for dinner. And thanks for watching! I'm glad my videos are decent enough to watch over dinner, haha
Man, I wish you released this video 1 hour ago when I was eating.
That Dinosaur analogy is PERFECT, haha
That Doc Ock find is amazing!
CVS 2 is thr greatest fighting game mashup ever.
Now that Fox is under Disney, along with Marvel, if there are any more Capcom versus Marvel, all the Aliens & Predator properties are under Marvel
Probably Sega VS Capcom will eventually come to the mix!
Holy shit, that first Ryu air combo edit was FIRE!!! 0:02 - 0:04. Sigh... it's the little things.
That was really tricky to put together, but I'm proud of it all the same, lol. I'm glad someone noticed it!
I want Unknown Soldier 1P and Michelle Heart in Shonen Magazine vs. Capcom as playables.
Jump Vs. Capcom is the dream! Probably a licensing nightmare, though.
@@TheSeventhForce
Considering the number of licensable and even indie characters appearing in other games, I think that an 'Everyone is here' scenario could be possible. ^_^ ,b
And, considering how some conglomerates(' products) are doing these days, I'm sure that some 'good will' would be beneficial in the(ir) long run. ~_^
Still, would you want
- characters like Mario, Creepie Creecher, Breakbone (from Kayko & Kokosh) and Pico (from Newgrounds) in (a heavily expanded version of) Smash or Jump Ultimate Stars?
The (im)possibilites are truly endless.
wait... so... the company that owns Marvel now also owns the Aliens IP...?
LINN KUROSAWA CONFIRMED FOR MVC5
Disney needs to stop buying film companies and franchises.
Howard the Duck?! LOLOMG
Request: Can you make an Analysis Video separated for V.Joe, Amaterasu and Saki?
You just got a new subscriber mate
Thank you so much!
I really hope the assets for Doc Oc are found some day, I bet his move set was amazing
Linn is gonna be in that cool Sega VS Capcom fangame tho!😅
Finding out Nina was so close... And BOF1 Nina being my favorite design among them all at that. I need to slap a Capcom dev upside the head someday. Don't appreciate the SonSon shade though lol
Lol, nothing personal against SonSon (and I appreciate her inclusion and what she represents all the same!), I'm just surprised at some of the series that got into the series instead of BoF.
I hope your vacation is going well
ya gotta do a full video on tvc sum time man. idk anything about tatsunoko & I'd luv 2 hear u rave about it!
Call me naive or whatever, but I still hope to see a new Marvel VS Capcom game in the franchise. I would buy even a Marvel VS Capcom with all the characters from X-Men Children of the Atom all the way to Marvel VS Capcom Infinite. ❤❤❤
So will you do a cut content video on capcom x namco and the project x zone games since people count those as part of the capcom versus series
Honestly? I'm mulling over expanding to crossover games in general if there's enough interest. That said, I'd actually have to see if there's any known cut content for those games. Would be interesting though, I'm nearing the end of a Project X Zone playthrough, incidentally!
Interesting Doc Oc find!
As far as i know from Dock Ock on MVC3, he even got his own themesong ready before he got cut it from the game. Did ever got released on the internet?
Not as far as I know. There's a chance it could be in an earlier build, but that's still a question mark.
This episode could be called Capcom Vs Legality. RIP Lt Kurosawa. Maybe now that Disney owns everything AvP can exist again
That's pretty cool.
So many "What could have beens"
Doc Ock as a secret character in the new collection maybe?🤔 Also Disney owns Alien and Predator rights now, a brawler collection with AvP would be sweet!🤓
SHE-HULK IN MVC1 😭
=)
I would have loved fighting with B. B. HOOD, instead of Felicia and H-sienko
I would trade frank, jill, arthur and many others fro Fou-Lu. It would be amazing
Arthur I think deserves his place since he's a classic Capcom IP that also should've been playable waaay before MvC3, but I'd take Nina over Frank, yeah. TvC has my favorite version of Frank, anyhow.
Maybe Tabs could create Doctor Octopus for the modded version of UMVC3! 😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱
i love earth-30847(aka the universe in which capcom vs marvel takes place)
So no slam masters characters mention on this cut ?
So DarkHawk, Linn, and Bruce McGivern/Fong Ling are in the next game right?....RIGHT!?
Oh sweet Breath of Fire.. that music takes me back.
Breath of Fire III has one of the best soundtracks of all time. So jazzy and relaxing.
@@TheSeventhForce agreed! Shame Capcom won't remaster the main line 4.
14:00 where is that background from? I recognize that from super Mario Bro Z the old intro lol.
It's the title screen background for Marvel Vs Capcom 1! The Dreamcast version uses it as it's main menu background as well; I use it as a general background in most videos about the Vs. games.
Wasn't Marvel vs Capcom 3's development heavily affected by the 2011 earthquake and tsunami that happened in Japan?
Hoping the VS Series comes out of its "coma" one day
It's a damn shame Linn Kurosawa could've part of her playable Capcom legacy.
Both creators have sued Marbel for the rights
wild and Wacky
10:05 bro the real character that was robbed from this list is Masamune Date from Sengoku Basara. The Sengoku Basara fans wanted some representation in the VS games for years and it never happened. Gene from God Hand is another character that never made it even when is a "God" fighter in his game.
IIRC, they tried to get Date for MvC3 as well, but that time the team in charge of Sengoku Basara straight up said they'd rather not have him in it; same thing happened with Monster Hunter in MvC3 as well.
The vs series game were the best ever I still play Capcom vs SNK 2 till this day
Same here! CvS2 in particular is pretty much a fighting game sandbox, I love it to death.
Tatsunoko vs Capcom, the greatest of the vs series!!! Don't argue with me. I'm right.
@@TheSeventhForceProbably, near the end when you're discussing about Doc Ock and Frank West almost being in Marvel vs. Capcom 3 vanilla.
@@skinnyweenie8679 Got it. I think I know exactly what went wrong there, shouldn't happen in the future!

Wow, I can't believe a BoF character was SOOOOO close. Bummer
Right? Maybe next time.
That said (and maybe I should've mentioned this in the video) we were actually told which UMVC3 character Nina lost her prospective slot to: Firebrand.

same Ryu and Ken knock offs.... and it was a better well decision.
don't believe me? take a look at Goku in DBZ series, instead of new characters
