- If you try to go to the Hidden Land with the partner set as the leader, then you will get this rare cutscene. A very similar cutscene also plays if you try to go to Mt. Travail, The Nightmare, or Dark Crater with the partner as the leader. Please enjoy!

Interestingly, these textboxes where no portraits are visible should've normally shown the portraits of your unevolved partner smiling, in shock and worried. I assumed that the game would default back to the standard portrait if they're missing, but the game simply shows no portrait at all.

This is true. If you've ever played the game on an emulator and changed your starter and partner to different pokemon, you'd find out that portraits are entirely missing when they're supposed to show expressions.
Mine has a portrait though with Charizard as my partner. Lucario is my main.

They're also missing when you do the guard mission at the guild, when evolved.
Let's also not forget the fact that the sleeping animations are also missing from the start of the day, despite them being in the game.

PMD is a little weird in this case. I remember being disappointed when I evolved my starter in Rescue Team and my Blastoise stopped having his portrait displayed, even though there's multiple portraits of Blastoise from Team Hydro in the game. But my Charizard in Blue rescue team still kept his portrait for some reason. Weirdly enough I looked up gameplay of people completing dungeons with Charizard and in the few results I found (including this channel), none of them had kept their portrait after a day ended. No idea, how I triggered this "glitch", but I wish I knew because keeping the portraits of the starters is s big deal to me
@Lucario Chase Dragneel charizards shocked portrait is from rescue team i believe, so some specific pokemon will still be able to display the given emotion if they were or are a special character, while others like this swampert unfortunately wont.

And all the while, Lapras was probably thinking, "Oh, get a room, you two." Lol!
If they remake this game, I think the Hidden Land should be designated as a free dungeon in exchange for making the initial traversal for the other post-Primal Dialga but pre-Darkrai dungeons require the player and partner.
While I think that would break the "only worthy people allowed" rule, Dialga should be able to visit Hidden Land and his own freaking house
I think this is what makes the place special in the first place. Most of the dungeons in Explorers are too similar and lack a property that makes them stand out (like dungeon bosses, the Deoxys dungeon or set Monster house floors of silver trench in Rescue Team).
The stipulation of only the worthy Pokémon being able to visit this place does give it more significance even outside of the main story.

I get this is a dungeon where only the original leader and partner may enter, but the partner saying they dont have confidence to lead makes no sense here.
At this point theyve literally graduated from the guild, escaped from the paralysed future, defeated the literal god of time and space, defeated the mastermind darkrai and several other things... youd think by now the partner would have got over their cowardice
Right? Building their confidence was their entire character arc for the main story. It doesn't even come up during the post-game.

It this a programming reason only? Like this area is still holding the main story set up so you can only have you and your partner?
I imagine that's likely the reason yeah since the game does not allow you to take any other team members to the hidden land either
As far as I know, there isn't any programming reason. On any prior visits, there's no cutscenes, so it should just be treated as a normal dungeon. Again, I may be wrong
There is literally no reason why it's set up like this. It just is.
Well in the Darkrai post game story the game needs to check whether you are the leader before entering a dungeon, since the story is again experienced through the eyes of the protagonist. So they probably just reused this check for this dungeon again.
Man, I hope they make Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: Explorers DX next! Especially if it combines content from Explorers of Time, Darkness, and Sky to make their remake the definitive way to play, like they did with Blue and Red Rescue Team when they made Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: Rescue Team DX!
They probably just need to remake Explorers of Sky, since didn’t Sky already combine Time and Darkness
@@thetreyceratops2242 I'm talking about the recruitable Pokémon in that regard, since AFAIK, Explorers of Sky didn't combine the recruitment rosters of Time & Darkness, but instead used a third unique roster.
@@OmegaGamer104 yeah true, but it had all 492 Pokémon available without needing any other games (except wonder mail for Mewtwo, the legendary beasts and Jirachi, which you could still get without codes)

A secret is something deliberately hidden that the player has to find. This is not deliberately hidden. It's just something not many people would end up running into.
Yup. I encountered that when my mind was thinking that I should go to the hidden land with my partner as the leader since my main (Lucario in my case) and my partner (Charizard) can go to the Hidden Land.
IDK, seems pretty hidden to me, most people won't see it cause they have the MC as the leader
I fawned over this game as a kid and replayed it several times as I grew up and never in a million years did I ever think of doing this- so yeah i'd call this a secret.
