I've managed to escape Kecleon quite a few times since they stop chasing you when you go to a different floor, but I've never managed to recruit them. This video is going to be good.
I actually stole from Kecleon a whole lot. When I noticed the shop of Kecleon and the stairs to the next floors are close enough and I didn't have any new recruit with me, I would take all of his items first and ran for my dear life. Sometimes it worked wonderfully and I got all of those cool items for free.
I loved stealing from Kecleon. My usual strategy was to use a Trawl Orb by the staris to snatch all the goodies and then get down to the next floor. Any Kecleon that got into the room with me would get hit by a Foe-fear orb
@@Wings_Of_Nightfall Couldn't you leave a party member at the stairs take all the item's then switch party leader and just got straight down the stairs?
Hey Freezai, I'm a big fan of the content and it's really cool to see PMD on this channel. I come from this game's speedrunning community and have done a lot of work on routing out the Recruit 'Em All No Wondermail (REA No WM) category, this is definitely one of the more accurate videos I've seen from someone outside of the community, but there are still a few problems imo. First, when you steal stat boosting items still work as normal so you can just use a violent seed and get to +10 (yes PMD state stages go to +10) the acupressure stuff is pretty unnecessary. Second, not every kecleon comes at level 42, and actually you got a relatively low level one that has 254 in its attacks and defenses instead of the usual 255, also even when you recruit kecleon despite it normally having 255 to all stats other than HP it still gets +1 to HP every level. And third (mostly for the viewers), you don't need jumpluff and any pokemon with the fast friend IQ skill at level 99+ with a golden mask can do it. Jumpluff's kinda a bad choice to recruit kecleon with because its natural stats are bad so it takes longer to get to a point where it can make all the ranges you need, it's pretty bad for if you want to recruit anything other than kecleon (if you're gonna sink all these resources to get kecleon why not sink them into a pokemon that is good at traditional recruiting as well), and chlorophyll while cool is pretty slow and annoying to use (just set stuff up so you can OHKO kecleons), in the vid you can see that despite having maxed attacking stats on jumpluff with +10 on both of them wide slash still needed to crit to OHKO. To OHKO kecleons you can either use moves that get STAB or get boosted by weather, but if you want wide slash to OHKO (you definitely do) then probably the easiest way is to do some shenanigans with skill swap and get guts on whatever pokemon you choose to use (this makes it so instead of absolutely needing a crit to OHKO at 255 attack you just need to get 172 or higher base attack stat with +10 and guts active, this might sound like more work for little reward at first but trust me saving as much time as you do by OHKOing is definitely worth it even casually). Still a great video and a fun showcase of some odd PMD mechanics. P.S. The PMD speedrunning discord (you can find it pretty easily if you just go to the speedrun. com profile for PMD sky and click on the little discord icon) has a lot of people and resources with more knowledge than bulbapedia or serebii that are always willing to help. P.P.S. I'd absolutely love to see a Freezai vid on the "jirachi exploit", there are currently no videos about it on youtube and it's super cool/gamebreaking

Worth mentioning that if you recruit Groudon and have him on the squad, you can have permanent sun when fighting Kecleon. Chlorophyll in this game means you can attack twice in one turn.
as far as bosses go? yeah but in mystery dungeon any mon can get to 999 hp (500 in orginals) and 255 in all other stats and moves cna get extra +99 power from gingsengs And with linking of moves and abilties + iq skills (explorers) you can do crazier stuff then what kecleon can do

At some point I ended up getting fed up with being anxious about or avoiding the shop entirely and tried to defeat Kecleon but I don't think I survived that one haha.I didn't know you could even recruit Kecleon, so it was pretty interesting to see this!
I would love to see more PMD content. Maybe something like an analysis of the battle system or something like that. I realize your main area is competitive singles, but I think it’d be cool to see some more branching out.
I remember planning it out for literal irl days when I wanted to recruit everyone in Sky. And then I recruited like the 3rd Kecleon. It felt nice but all that time collecting reviver seeds and the golden mask (not using wonder mail generators) and violent seeds and a mobile orb and tight belt. And then I just… didn’t really need any of it. I was quite thankful though that it only took 3 Kecs
Absolutely love red rescue team and it was always a bucket list challenge for me in that game to recruit kecleon, had done a lot of theory crafting on it, so this video hit the spot. Good stuff man thanks for your content.
I remember going out of my way to use Delibird for this. Hatched one with Mind Reader and Ice Ball, and got Delibird's exclusive item Snow Brooch which lets Delibird attack twice in the hail. One Hail Orb later, bang, two never-miss rounds of the five-hit Ice Ball in one turn, and after being many Kecleon with this I finally did get one.
Im so happy you made a video about this game. I remember doing the research myself out of curiosity and found out that it was actually possible to recruit him. The strategy i heard was using a ghost type pokemon or mew and a lot of apples to go inside walls and use moves like blizzard to kill them all at once, plus all of the extra stuff to get the recruit rate up.
This is so interesting. I was attacked by them by canceling to buy because I wanted to change what I buy and ending up as stealing. I scared me so much back when I was a kid.
I accidentally stepped off the mat in a Kecleon Shop and didn't have enough money. Since I couldn't buy the items, I tried to fight him, and ended up just reloading my save.
If you cover more PMD, I'd love a video on Purity Forest/Zero Isle South/Destiny Tower dungeons. Kek is absurdly broken in Purity Forest but is utterly worthless in the Zero Isle South and Destiny Tower.
Huh, didn’t think I’d see a mystery dungeon video from you. I like it, more please. I’d kind of like to see your opinions on each of the games, the best and worst parts of each game and maybe like a tier list of the starters in each game.

OMG thank you so much I never would have gotten around to googling this information but now I'm about to waste my 20's chasing this dream of recruiting the demon shopkeeper
Reminds me of maplestory where major bosses' defenses ignore 300% of your damage, so you need the ignore-defense stat to exceed 66.6% to start dealing 1% of your damage. But sources of that stat are decimal & multiply with each other for diminishing returns, so stacking 40%-ignore lines nets you 64% with 2, 78.4% with 3, 87% with 4, & 92.2% with 5, which gets ~76% of your damage through a 300% def boss. Most sources that big have opportunity costs that cut into your actual damage, so most of your sources that don't compromise damage will be 5,10,15,20%.
Back in the day I got Keckleon, but using a different method. Simply put, I did the Jirachi quest and wished for new friends. That's how i recruited a low level keckleon super easily
With a LOT of setup and some patience this is actually not that hard. But I would love more Pmd or other spinoff content, as since there's no competitive scene there's probably a lot I don't know or haven't explored in the games
I actually didn't know how to buy/sell with him so I accidentally stole and was terrified when he brought the homies, I had to google what was going on
I still find it annoying that there's no cancel, so if you accidentally leave the 3x3 keckleon shop without the money to buy the items, you're straight up dead.
While I haven't yet attempted recruiting Kecleon, I have stolen from him and escaped several times; it's quite simple. I just grab all the goods and then eat a pure seed so I warp near the staircase, and boom, I make my getaway.
I think I managed to do this back in the day because my main chracter ate such an ungoldy number of gummies (and there wasn't a limit seemingly back then) in Blue Mystery Dungeon. If I remember correctly, there were some ways of getting block breaking/walking in game, can't remember exactly how
I remember that I once recruited kecleon in Pokemon mystery dungeon Blue rescue team, But I erased the data because I was still a smol Child.... Holy...
The only game when you'll reasonably get Keckleon is in Super Mystery Dungeon. It does requires you to have 750 Pokemon (out of 779) and finished the game, so it's not exactly easy, but it's way better. It's still pretty strong iirc.
@@KogasaTatara514 Yeah, just checked out. Granted it's low level, but it's weaker than a Tirtouga of the same level, so it's not really convincing. The real OP monster in this game is Vigoroth because it has Slaking's stats without the drawback.

A. I wish we'd get a BRAND NEW Mystery Dungeon game. B. I never recruited kecleon as a kid, but I was able to the most recent time I played through blue rescue team. I spent about a month grinding a new save file from the start of the game until level 96. My strategy, as Cubone, was to hold friend bow, learn earthquake, and keep going through Wyvern Hill with my inventory consisting of: a trawl orb, one-room orb, escape orb, then fill the rest wit reviver seeds. I walk around until I find a kecleon shop, then I use the one-room orb, walk to the steps so I can quickly leave the floor and escape orb out of the dungeon if I need to, then steal kecleons items using trawl orb by the steps. Walk around until kecleons surround me, then earthquake all of them until I recruit one. I recruited one in an absurdly short amount of time (2 trips to wyvern Hill + KOing a total of maybe 15 kecleons) but this isnt normal and anyone who tries this will most likely have to kill WAY more kecleons. If you attempt this be ready to prepare and grind up for a good while for this and be prepared to repeat these steps over and over for a while.
iirc this one time was playing Explorers of Sky where i used Roar on an enemy Pokemon in a hallway which caused it to get blown back and slam into Kecleon in the next room (who i had no idea was even *in the way*). this caused it to become aggressive and start attacking me and i was lucky i even managed to get away from it
Fun fact, if you have access to save stats, rng in PMD is determined by actions. It cycles through a table as you perform different actions (doesn't calculate on the fly).
I did it with a Meganium spamming solar beam on sunny weather. I used Cresselia with her special item and double team to boost Meganium's evasiveness. Cresselia also knew lunar dance, which refilled PP, and I had a Smeargle sketch the move so I had infinite PP. I ran out of violent seeds after a couple of attempts (I didn't have many to begin with) so I started bringing a pokemon with helping hand to raise Meganium's attack to maximum whenever needed. Took me a good while but I guess it was worth it just for bragging rights

@@XenithShadow I've only ever played the Explorers games in which that is not possible.

P.P.S. I'd absolutely love to see a Freezai vid on the "jirachi exploit", there are currently no videos about it on youtube and it's super cool/gamebreaking
cool insight, i mainly used bulbapedia as a reference but it looks theres a lot more to be learned, Jirachi exploit sounds cool ill take a look! I mainly made this vid bc i loved Mystery dungeon as a kid and as a casual, the number 1 toughest thing i remembered from it was trying to recruit kecleon
as someone who does a lot of personal pmd max% stuff, thanks for commenting this, i was gonna write one up myself but you touched on everything lol
What the fck I’m not reading this.
What he meant to say was “nice video!”
sick info dump, cool video and dope comment
Worth mentioning that if you recruit Groudon and have him on the squad, you can have permanent sun when fighting Kecleon. Chlorophyll in this game means you can attack twice in one turn.
Keckleon will take out the Groudon with ease though lol.
Sun is permanent when set using an orb, isn’t it?
I love this, more videos about spinoff games are something I would highly appreciate.
Kecleon is probably even more busted then Mega Rayquaza in gen 6
as far as bosses go? yeah
but in mystery dungeon any mon can get to 999 hp (500 in orginals) and 255 in all other stats and moves cna get extra +99 power from gingsengs
And with linking of moves and abilties + iq skills (explorers) you can do crazier stuff then what kecleon can do
@@zyella277 you can actually get Pokémon with 999 health rbrt aswell
@@mhx5071 well only bosses that have 500+ hp already if you feed them a reviver seed before beating them again, with deoxys having highest at 950 hp. But normally cap is 500 without the bug.
@@zyella277 Off base stats alone though I assume kecleon is the most broken mon in mystery dungeon history. Like maybe arceus in Super. (Haven't completed the orb but still its probably not stronger)
The only thing comparable in the main series is like eternamax eternatus
@@irishpenguin2047As recruit off yeah since i dont think any mon comes close to maxed everything. Funny enough its natural stats isnt actually as insane, for L1 dungeons Alakazam comes close and internally Meganium have the best overall stats
Remember kids! Stealing is wrong... If you're WEAK.
Back when I played Red, I recruited Kecleon by doing the same thing, except with my Venusaur. It's crazy how as kids we did things w/o knowing the statics: 0.1% is SO small!😅
I was also mad that Kecleon wasn't one-shotting everything like it did to me
This video made me vividly remember how panic inducing this game could be. The boss fights were actually challenging and there were so many mechanics that made it one of my favorite games ever to play. I'm 24 now but whenever I see a PMD video, I feel 10 again.
my only mechanic was to have my bag full of reviver Seeds and apples, and pray to not get a Monster House 😞
I remember when my bro and I found out about this. It literally took us 2 weeks of getting meganium, the wall hack seed, oran berries, and solar beam. Worth it
This is some quality stuff, the PMD community will never die
I was always so scared of stealing because of the trauma of getting ganbanged on the hardest dungeons when i was 14 yo.
eh you can find a the kekleon market, go to the stairs and use the orb that sucks all the items towards you. take what you need and run for the hills
I remember always being so worried and careful in the shop. I accidentally stole items more than once.
Well you still needed the golden mask at least.
Absolutely love red rescue team and it was always a bucket list challenge for me in that game to recruit kecleon, had done a lot of theory crafting on it, so this video hit the spot. Good stuff man thanks for your content.
do you hear this guys voice lmfao
@@vespii whats your point??
@@xenonhhd8383 uhm black people shouldn't have rights?
@KingDon Important to note that the video is in Explorers of Sky as opposed to Red Rescue Team so some of the information does not apply to that game
Ahh, i remember my childhood, grinding away at Kecleons with my overpowered Sceptile, and then accidetaly saying '''no" to the recruitment...
This is so interesting. I was attacked by them by canceling to buy because I wanted to change what I buy and ending up as stealing. I scared me so much back when I was a kid.
I accidentally stepped off the mat in a Kecleon Shop and didn't have enough money. Since I couldn't buy the items, I tried to fight him, and ended up just reloading my save.
i love this style of content! it’s great to see you talk about the spin offs
If you cover more PMD, I'd love a video on Purity Forest/Zero Isle South/Destiny Tower dungeons. Kek is absurdly broken in Purity Forest but is utterly worthless in the Zero Isle South and Destiny Tower.
"Would you like to buy that?"
"Oh, my bad, I don't have enough. Let me retur-"
*DEATH*
It’s always a treat to see PMD content even today, keep up the great work
Imagine being a little kid and kelcleon was your favorite pokemon, just to find out that the only way to recruit one is to do all this
This is actually so interesting
"Buy my merchandise, or today will be your demise"
-Kecleon
Awesome to see you make a PMD video! Keep up the great work.
imagine stealing from store, beat up the clerk and then he decides to become your best friend
I love the mystery dungeon content, it also fits your style really well
I love how Keckleon uses the move Thief to attack you in PMD1 as a punishment for being a thief
Huh, didn’t think I’d see a mystery dungeon video from you. I like it, more please. I’d kind of like to see your opinions on each of the games, the best and worst parts of each game and maybe like a tier list of the starters in each game.
Mfer taught me not to steal as a child. Also merely seeing his carpet at the edge of my screen gives me ptsd
Wow, didn't expect mystery dungeon to appear here :D
One of my core memories is wondering what would happen if I stole from kecleon and realizing my terrible mistake right after, I'll never forget it
Nice video! I'm a big fan of mystery dungeon and I love seeing the recognition!
Now catch 4 billion unique spindas
Cool, you got Kecleon.
Now comes the next challenge:
*ESCAPE THE FLOOR WITHOUT IT DYING*
So great to see someone like you bring more attention to the PMD series. Loved the video!
Freezai making a tutorial about recruiting Kecleon in Mystery Dungeon?
Yeah, i'll take that.
once i accidentally stole as a kid because when he said "are you going to pay for that?" i thought saying no meant you would drop the items back (listen i was little and really shit at reading) and the absolute FEAR when he called me a their-
They don’t act like invincible demon monsters if you recruit them though .
Kecleon taught me that stealing is only wrong if you do it unprepared
Man I love your videos. Pulled up a memory I forgot I had. Til this day I always felt the smallest sense of dread whenever I saw a Kecleon and literally only now remember it’s because this was the first Pokémon to ever k.o. me when I was 6 lmao
OMG thank you so much I never would have gotten around to googling this information but now I'm about to waste my 20's chasing this dream of recruiting the demon shopkeeper
0:56 For me it was an accident. I accidentally walked off Kecleon’s mat in gates to infinity after I thought I paid for the item
I just replay this game yesterday and THIS on my recommendation! GG for you to beat this challenge!
Man its so cool to see people focusing on the spin offs! Please do more PMD videos
We really need a Pokémon Mystery Dungeon explorers remake because that game is so underrated
It doesn't need a remake, the ds art and music is timeless
No. F*ck remakes (especially modern Pokemon ones which are lazy and watered down AF).
This was not the freezai content that I expected but it’s the freezai content that will very likely get him to 100k
I'd use a Pure Seed and then use a Trawl Orb. 😆
@@Pandachu123 Ooooh yeah I've done that too, forgot about that!

This is my favorite mystery dungeon video now. Thank you for the knowledge and sharing it!
Nah, Kelceon is normal strength in SMD. The one you get, at least. Kinda disappointed me when I did all that for a regular Pokemon.
@@KogasaTatara514 Yeah, just checked out. Granted it's low level, but it's weaker than a Tirtouga of the same level, so it's not really convincing.
The real OP monster in this game is Vigoroth because it has Slaking's stats without the drawback.
holy shit, a modem guide to doing this! thanks so much for making this-it made me relive some trauma and encouraged me to get back to playing my recent playthru of pmd: sky. i’m hoping to recruit all pokémon in the game on this file, too.
i’m terrified of doing this, but i will fucking do it, i swear.

Really cool to see you make a video on PMD
Mirror move is also a good move to use, it’s actually broken lol it kinda works as counter
I like the Sootopolis city music sound in the first.

To recruit kecleon into your team, first you must become a god.
I think it’s probably the first video I saw who recrut him in Explorator of sky ! Very nice video man !
A. I wish we'd get a BRAND NEW Mystery Dungeon game.
B. In Super Mystery Dungeon, I'd equip that gem that revive fallen allies and go to town against their army while they either cover me for my escape or just fight endlessly until we can eventually leave with our loot. I'd also have the gem that allows me to see enemies or the map or something. Now if we had the Kecleon policy in real life we'd probably be a little safer, just a little. Note: I'm never going to stop stealing from him as long as he's got good loot, the team of thieves inspired me as a kid. The Weavile, Arbok and the Scorpion fella. (Never liked gen 4 so I don't remember it's name)
C. Every time: Our battle will be legendary!
To see this video in my sub feed from this UA-camr is something special. You make great content and I love your informative videos, even when I may already know the info cause I’m such a Pokémon nerd. Keep it up!
I'm so happy this challenge is still popular! I'm replaying Sky at the moment too
"Kecleon, the strongest pokemon in the universe" was very satisfying to hear
I sent this video to my Mystery Dungeon fan friend and he immediately set off on a massive rant. Thank you
Fantastic work
awesome video! this was always something i was very intrigued by, i knew it was possible but the explaning was really good
I never recruited kecleon as a kid, but I was able to the most recent time I played through blue rescue team. If you attempt this be ready to prepare and grind up for a good while for this and be prepared to repeat these steps over and over for a while.
iirc this one time was playing Explorers of Sky where i used Roar on an enemy Pokemon in a hallway which caused it to get blown back and slam into Kecleon in the next room (who i had no idea was even *in the way*). this caused it to become aggressive and start attacking me and i was lucky i even managed to get away from it
I really love these games. Getting kecleon to join you is such an amazing easter egg
Kecleon is so strong that death fears kecleon.
Now THIS is what I'm talking about. This is a top 10 of all time video. Freaking love the content my guy
Its funny how a spinoff is harder then the main series
i think cause main series has to appeal to kids, who dont have technical knowledge or as much strategy skills.
Fun fact, if you have access to save stats, rng in PMD is determined by actions.
It cycles through a table as you perform different actions (doesn't calculate on the fly).
Loved the detail of the prize being 4,950 when you mentioned the recruitment rate
The happiness of seeing someone talking about Mystery Dungeon games
I did it with a Meganium spamming solar beam on sunny weather.
I used Cresselia with her special item and double team to boost Meganium's evasiveness. Cresselia also knew lunar dance, which refilled PP, and I had a Smeargle sketch the move so I had infinite PP. I ran out of violent seeds after a couple of attempts (I didn't have many to begin with) so I started bringing a pokemon with helping hand to raise Meganium's attack to maximum whenever needed. Took me a good while but I guess it was worth it just for bragging rights
