Final Workout Before I Race A Speedy 5K

- Опубліковано 29 вер 2024
- After a not so great showing over 10k at the weekend, today it was back to training with a session combing both tempo and speed work. I like to add these workouts into my training in the build up to 5k races to get both an aerobic and anaerobic stimulus. If you enjoy the video please leave a like and consider subscribing.

Only just got into running last month and it is defo bc of you, watched your copenhagen marathon vid and im obsessed, you are certainly inspiring me to run! also signed up for the bristol half next summer so im looking forward to testing myself! ty
Watching your channel since 1.5 Years now, and it inspired me and my twinbrother to run aswell. On the day of your copenhagen marathon, we ran our first Halfmarathon (we just turned 16) and we finished in 1:21. So happy that we started running and special thanks to you for inspiring us.
Great debut, looks like you two have potential.
1:21 is crazy good. Congrats!
Damn that’s Ø 3:50 min/km 😮
That’s a great story! Wish I was running at 16, incredible run for your first half! Keep it up and thanks for following along :)
Hi Ben - you are an absolute inspiration. One request whenever you can - common running injuries and your experience/suggestions. Thanks 🙏🏻
Know what i loved about your 10k tough race, you never quit i run for a club local and loads if having a tough day and aint getting a pb they just quit for me that goes against the ethos of running id only not ever finish a race because of injury.I went for a sub 3 marathon last year and knew about 18 wasnt capable of holding the pace need did a 3:06:43 never once did i think of quitting.
It's nice to also see the races, where it doesn't go as planned. I just raced a half marathon where I was on pace for a 10 minutes PB since last year, but I just completely fell apart over the last kilometer and ended up not even crossing the finish line. This video reminds me to put it behind me and just focus on the next one instead. Cheers!
100%! That sounds like a real tough one, next time you’ll crush it 🤞🏻
@@BenIsRunning Thanks, I sure hope so!
Good luck with next one lad. Always try to put my bad races behind me and try take positives from it like if I tried my best, and the parts that didn’t go well I try learn what goes wrong. Races that don’t go as planned are i think the most valuable ones
Only people whom do nothing make no mistakes.
Almost at 100k. Just subbed to help you get there. Hopefully thatll make you feel better
Thanks for the sub!
I think last race you ran for the time you wanted as opposed to the time your training told you was possible.
Race sensibly at the next race and you'll be fine.
Was more of a case i was racing to be competitive rather than for a time but yes, a reminder to run your own race for sure :)
@@BenIsRunning for what it's worth, I think 10k could be your best distance. Sub 30 definitely realistic for you with the right training.
I love my Coros Pace 2. But I've only ever used the phone app so will now jump onto the laptop version for a deeper analysis. Keep up the great content and good luck on Friday.
Yeah the phone app is really good but find the training hub on the computer is a bit better for looking at the bigger picture say a training block before a marathon :)
Don't beat yourself up mate. We all have shocka days, so to speak.
I'd love to be disappointed with a 32:18 in the 10k 😂
I have a general question: How do Chorus finds your Maximum Heart Rate or Aerobic Treshold VT1 and Anaerobic Treshold VT2? Do we need a physiology lab test? I am always confused about MHR=220-age it is not a correct rule, at least for me.
Hi sir can you please suggest me final workout for 2k race❤❤❤ pleaseee❤ and rest between each reps❤
Can anyone here recommend a decent folding treadmill ? Around 1k ish price point .
Hi Ben do you still have bags code? I'd rather use your code so you get a little kick back on my purchase.
Just baffling that tempo for you on a 5k is 16 minutes😂 keep it up brotha :)
I've just bought a heart rate chest strap. How does the arm band compare?
I might be interested in the corso pace 3. Right now I've just been using my apple watch with their fitness app which does allow you to build customize workouts with timers so I don't know if I need to upgrade just yet. Also great video Ben, you are a beast!
hey Ben! can you also walk us through how you do your taper for different distances using Coros intensity trends, training loads, etc? I'm a coros user myself. cheers, Ben! run safe
For marathons I really look into this data where i make sure I get that training load into the performance category- being fresh for the longer distance is much more important from my experince. At the moment i'm try to maintain a optimal training volume to build fitness so there isn't a taper as such for these races as im looking to use them to build towards some A goal races in September/October time :)
@@BenIsRunning ah so you're also somehow following their recommendation. it's nice hearing that their metrics seem to be reliable for a high-performing runner like you 😅 thanks, Ben! appreciate your reply.
I remember a few years back you did an ultra and had a terrible race. You bounced back from that race and you've come so far since then. Bad races happen -- I've had plenty of them. But they make the great races even sweeter though. Looks like you and I suffered with similar challenges as far as remembering our workouts. I usually grab a sticky note and put it in my pocket -- although invariably it falls out of my pocket. Keep it up Ben, you and Andy Raynor continue to inspire me to train hard and get it done.
Very true eddie, I always find motivation in my training in the weeks after also steps up so sometimes its just what you need :)
Still waiting for the update when you can track your shoe mileage.
Noted, we've had this requested before, so we might have a solution for you soon.
Would you recommend the vaporflys or metaspeed sky paris for a 5k that is mostly packed dirt, hilly, and roads? Great Session!
Sky Paris for me but neither are especially grippy so purely on performance
@@BenIsRunning Where I live the vaporfly 3s are only like 170 dollars (135 pounds), do you think the peformance is worth the extra cost?
Mad how you can hold your heart rate so high! Any Vo2 max videos in the pipe?
Something thats relative to ever runner. Maintaing high effort however i'd say would come down more to tempo sessions where you learn to maintain pace over a longer period more so than a vo2 maz style session which i use more for developing speed.
@@BenIsRunning thanks Ben for taking the time to reply. Huge fan. And cheers I’ll get some more temp in the schedule. X
Closr to 100k, need a couple more people to know about this great man. Spread the word 🎉🎉🎉😅
Thanks, not long now :)
100 k seems to be the max count for running channels
For a minute I thought I was watching star wars😂
Does Coros track sleep insight like Garmin? Good luck with your race Benny 😊
Yes, you get tracking on REM, Light, Deep, and time awake. You also get HRV tracking to keep an eye on your recovery!
@@DGCOROS I’ve got the Garmin Forerunner 965, I think they all do the same stuff, I know Coros is not as expensive though
Do you think mishmash workouts, or workouts where you do intervals of widely varying distance, are less effective?
Also, how do you typically decide on how long to rest between reps?
Your content is entertaining to view , I would make one comment, you see to suggest that any training session will have an immediate effect on an upcoming performance which clearly is not the case . Probably the reverse is true the wrong session can have a negative effect depending on what damage it does to muscle tissue . This session makes no sense before a 5k race. Your training seems to have little strategy rather just going from session to session and reacting to the last race performance. To optimise your ability I’d get a coach who knows what they are doing 😊
Ben what is your vo2 max score and running fitness score. I have pace 3 too. You must be 100%!
Pause the video. 98.4 fitness and about a 67 VO2
Correct, doing a vo2 max test in a few weeks so we’ll see how accurate that is :).
Omg. I haven't worked out how to log in apart from using my app yet
I screw up my Coros workouts while I’m running them more often than not. Part of that is because it’s hard to put enough time between the different workout segments.
Let's go ben! (wonder how many times you've heard this in your life haha)
Looking forward to seeing that race! Wish you luck🤞🏻
How often do you train/run?
The best non-pro runner worldwide
I'm surprised you call that a tempo run. Based on your coros hub HR and training focus it was more of a Threshold run. I think that is why you had a higher Anaerobic content. Not the 200m repeats. Good luck with your 5k
What's the difference between temp and threshold?
@@mrbartuss1 threshold is a pace you can sustain for 45 to 60 min so it would be your LT2 Lactate point Coros Zone 4 while a tempo is generally your LT1 point and can sustain much longer depending on your fitness and experience level. I think Coros would define that as Aerobic Power. Their Zone 3.
Yeah I’d agree with you, hr was a little higher than it usually would in today’s session
@@mrbartuss1tempo is zone around start of threshold zone.
Threshold is zone around end of threshold zone
Good bounce back Ben 💯 Did you create the workout or your new Coach 🤔 Hope you have both settled in to the new home as-well 🤞💑
Not just yet, still self coached until the end of this month and then we’re going to start working together :)
You will nail the 5k. 🎉
why did your HR get so high during the warmup and then suddenly dropped?
Looks like the monitor hadn't connected for the first km so that probably the change from wrist to band. A case i probably hadn't given it time to connect before beginning the workout :)
Did Finsbury Parkrun on Saturday, surprising amount of up and down!
It’s a track race so hopefully not any up and downs for me 😂
Good luck, crush it
It does the work very well so far 😊
Onwards and upwards Ben!!
Gayest saying
@@lean2281 What about butter my bread?
@@therealtalla haha yeah that's decent
I love your videos!
All the best Ben!
Good luck!
Good luck on Friday!
Thank you!!
