  • I planted 5 different varieties of bush beans do I could see how they did side by side. I'll tell you which were my 3 favorite varieties, after I show you how each type did. Keep in mind that the results of this little test might have been different if they had been planted in the ground. Different climate and growing conditions can also make a huge difference. If you've grown any of these varieties, let us know how they did for you. And if you have a favorite variety of bush bean, let us know that too. Thanks for watching!

    Nice video, mate. Love beans, especially, they’re a great snack (sometimes with a bit of hummus 😋). Re audio quality: sounds great, perhaps a bit louder/crispier than your other videos. But I’d be honest, if you didn’t mention about the software, I wouldn’t have noticed a thing! Cheers and have a lovely weekend.

    I'm in zone 9. Last year, I grew Calima beans in a grow bag, and they didn't do well. I read people like the Dragon Tongue bean, so I bought some seeds and am going to grow them this spring in addition to Jade bush beans. Going to sow them earlier this spring so they can grow in cooler weather.

    Good Morning Jim - Video sounds great! Have not had much success growing beans but appreciate you sharing your experience with 5 varieties you grow. It is hard to like varieties that don't produce which makes you wonder what happened to the others. I need to look into drip irrigation for my outdoor planters. Hope this cold snap ends soon...

    I grew two types of beans in the ground last year. Dragon tongue and momentum which is a hoss tools hybrid. They both grew like crazy in the red clay. I didn’t care for the taste or texture of dragon but momentum was very good. This is a great comparison. I always enjoy your videos

    Thank you for sharing! I appreciate your videos from over the state line, Independence, MO, Zone 6b! I really like the Baker’s Creek Dragon’s Tongue. It has good flavor. This year I grew them only in a GreenStalk tower. It seems like maybe they were a little less productive this year, which I credited more to the weather, and I didn’t keep up with fertilizing in my GreenStalk later in the summer. They are so fun to grow! Based on a video from Growfully with Jenna, I just ordered a brand new Blue Lake variety called Blue Lake Superior from Jung Seed Company. She said they are very productive (in Ohio). I’m eager to try them and hoping to try a little preserving this year!

    We have grown the Calima, Dragon's Tongue and the Tongues of Fire (not on your list). All have done remarkably well for us. My husband and I did not like the flavor of the Calima and chose not to grow it again. If there is one thing we can grow prolifically, it is beans! Dragon's Tongue did superbly each year we grew them. In fact, we could not keep up with them and many became so big that they were tough. They tolerated both the 100⁰+ temperatures and the chilly temperatures of fall, up until the first frost. The same goes for the Tongues of Fire. Last summer, we grew the Purple Podded Pole Bean and, despite the horrible growing conditions, we had a very successful harvest. The flavor was amazing, the beans were tender, and the plants were quite hardy through heat/drought conditions and very early cold conditions. We definitely will grow these again.
    I don't know if you are familiar with the @Vineyard Chicks Homestead, but they are doing a UA-cam collaboration this growing season where they will send you seeds for 6 survival crops (should anything happen to our food supply), and participating channels publish 2 videos showing 1) how they are growing the seeds and 2) how they use the crops. At the end of the challenge, there will be a huge giveaway. This channel is run by 3 young sisters, all under 18 yrs old, and I immediately thought of you and your family of followers. These young ladies are really amazing with all they are doing over on their channel. They are experimenting, growing all kinds of food for their family, learning and trying new things, and sharing their knowledge with others. It would be so awesome to see their channel get some extra love from a bigger channel that shares their passion for growing! ❤

      Thanks for sharing the results of how your beans have done for you! That's a great example of growing conditions, including climate and a few other things can make a big difference. I'm guessing that you might be more skilled at growing beans than I am also :) I'll check out the channel you mentioned. I wish I had more room and time. Sounds like a fun challenge.

    • @LewisAcreFarm
      @LewisAcreFarm 3 місяці тому +1

      I wouldn't say we are more skilled at growing beans but definitely climate and conditions play a part. One thing I did not mention is that we have always grown them in-ground and we have a rich, caliche-ridden soil that my husband has worked with a tiller for years. We have never grown beans in a grow bag or raised bed of any kind. Our mobile home park is under new management now and we were forced to move our garden. We have to do everything in raised beds now. So, we will see how well we do growing beans.

    I've grown Kentucky wonder pole beans, blue lake and dragon toung beans. They all performed ok. I prefer the Italian flat green beans. The dragon toung beans are easy to harvest because of their color. I like them all as long as they don't get stringy. I also prefer pole beans because its easier to harvest them. There can never be too many green beans. They're so much better than canned.

    Your video quality was great.... The Roma ll is the best producing bush bean I've ever grew... When you hear the word Roma it makes you think hybrid but their not, they are a heirloom bean... The hulls are huge, the beans are 8 inches long and an inch wide... The bullet gets to what ever size you choose.. They are stringless and are considered among the best eating stringless beans in the world... Consider giving them a try, I really think you'll be impressed with less effort considering the size of the bean along with stringlessness...
