  • During our recent cruise on the Norwegian Joy we were able to get a behind the scenes tour of the cruise ship kitchen galley area. Take a look at what it is like! This was during breakfast, so it actually wasn't as busy as it could be. The head chef gave a nice overview of the NCL galley operations, and it was very interesting as always to see how the hard-working kitchen crew make all the delicious meals for the guests.
This was from our December 2019 cruise on the Norwegian Joy, which was by then thankfully rid of the norovirus that had affected some passengers and crew.

Thank you so much for filming this. Due to my bad health (I've been sick since I was young and I'm terminally ill at age 43) I will never do a cruise so it's awesome to see inside without actually going. I hope that you had an amazing cruise.

The must hard worker in a cruise ship are the people from the galley department. They work almost 13 hours everyday with no pay of xtra hours : dishwashers, potwashers, utility galleys, assistant cooks ,cooks their salaries is not enough for the hard work they doing

It's very hard for sure- a lot of appreciation for those guys from us. Cruise lines should definitely pay them more.

Incredible amount of coordination and planning to make that much food. But, those on the tour, "yep, that's typical cruise clientele. Old, obese, or both."

I think they call it "doing the same shit everyday where you either master it or get fired"

Why would there be a separate crew galley? Just cook more from a rotating selection of normal guest items in the guest galleys and serve that in the crew messes. You can still serve crap and save when you select the cheapest shit from the entire menu. Or you can spend a little extra for the sake of employee retention and good morale by also serving some of the good stuff.
