Cruising on the Norwegian Joy | 3 Days to spend in Bermuda!

- Welcome back to Mer Cruises Solo! This is part 2 of my 2-part series on the NCL Joy! I took this cruise with my mom in April of 2024 and we LOVED our time on this ship! In this vlog I show you what we get up to while we're spending three full days docked at Royal Naval Dockyard in Bermuda. This is such an incredibly beautiful island, with some of the clearest bluest water I've ever seen! It's my 6th time to Bermuda so we spend a lot of time relaxing on an empty ship, but also spend a lovely afternoon at Horseshoe Bay Beach and then take the ferry over to Hamilton to have a delicious lunch and nice walk around town.

We have sailed NCL to Bermuda 4 times. It is pretty easy as we live in upstate NY and sail out of Boston or NYC. The Joy was not our favorite ship, but still enjoyed that cruise. I always feel safe in Bermuda as compared to some Mexican or Carribean port stops.
Also cool to see msc meraviglia in the shot at port that was my first cruise in 2021!

Always wondered if it was worth it to go to Bermuda. Looks like it is. Enjoyed the vlog even though you cheated us out of about 4 vlogs, hahaha. I am cruising with my mom at the end of June, so I completely understand.

Thank you! The ferry is actually right in the port area, a quick 5 minute walk away. Super convenient!

Hi Mer. I'm glad you were able to spend some time sans camera on this sailing.
I wanted to ask how you and your Mom traveled to the cruise port in Manhattan. Did you take trains up? I saw one traveler who took a train to Penn station and walked a half hour to the cruise port.
MSC cruises out of Brooklyn. Travel there seems too complicated, but Manhattan doesn't look so bad.
My next cruise (solo so far) is out of San Juan, but that's nearly 2 years off and I'm shopping for a sailing next year to hold me over. 😊

Thank you! Yes, we took Amtrak from Philly to the Moynihan Train Hall (right next to Penn Station) and then took a taxi to the cruise terminal but you could also walk it if you wanted, it’s not super far away!

Thank you, thank you for this awesome video. We're on the joy tomorrow. When you went to Horseshoe Bay, did you go with the ship's excursion or did you go on your own and if so, how did you go? We are traveling with 6 people ranging from 72 to 5. Thanks for any suggestions.
We went on our own! It’s very easy and convenient, there are shuttle buses right on the pier near the ship that will take you right to Horseshoe Bay. They run constantly so you can just hop back on a return shuttle whenever you’re ready to come back to the ship. It’s $8 per person each way!

Great video! How were the crowds and transportation with two ships docked at port?
No line at all for the ferry or the bus ride to Horseshoe Bay! We did wait until the afternoon to go to the beach though so it might have been a bit more crowded in the mornings but overall I didn’t notice any crowded areas or transportation limitations at all. They are used to handling two large ships in port!
What are you using for video? DJI Pocket?
For this video I filmed with both my iPhone and my DJI Osmo Action 4 camera!

Mer, we are going on the same cruise in 3 weeks, is the Thermal Spa Pass or Vibe worth buying on this cruise. How about the go-carts?
I did not purchase vibe or the thermal spa pass for this cruise - I think if the weather is really good, Vibe might be worth it because you are guaranteed a lounger and great service! We really didn’t have any issues finding chairs in Spice H2O, though. I did not ride the go-karts, but it is $15/person per session if you do!
