No but fr that's literally my mom, (sorry for replying like a year after) she would literally grab food with her bare hands and taste it when it's burning hot in the stove and idk how she'd do it, especially with oatmeal, idk how it doesn't burn her but my mom and I like eating oatmeal the most In my family so that's prob why. Oatmeal drama.

For all those who see the milk boiling over.
This happened to me too. But I found out that the microwave mess can be avoided.
Simply make sure that your microwave has a clear window.
The oatmeal needs 2-4 minutes total in the microwave.
Start with 2 minutes and keep going from there.
The trick is you need to pay close attention in the microwave.
Once you see heavy milk bubbles almost on the edge of your mug, Which will happen every 10-25 seconds, You need to stop the microwave and let the mug rest for a few seconds. Then keep it going, You'll see the bubbles come up again, Just stop it and let it rest for about 3 seconds. In total it'll take about 2-4 minutes in the microwave until it turns to oatmeal.
    Hope I helped.

    Yes! Microwave boil-overs occur!
    For a single serving [1/2 C traditional oats - 1 C liquid],
I start it cooking with just 3/4 Cup of liquid on 4 time settings,
and add the last 1/4 C or more of liquid late in the settings.
    (MY 70 - 60 - 30 - 30 METHOD!)
    1.) Cook 70 sec - then stir.
    2.) Cook 60 sec - AND then eyeball-add about 1/4 C milk and stir.
3.) Lastly, cook on two separate 30 sec bursts, stirring in between.
*** That is 3 minutes and 10 seconds of cooking.
A single long cook time causes the boil over, so the 4 time settings reduce that, and the need to hover by the microwave to catch boil overs (My oven door is difficult to see through). The late liquid helps cools down the mixture to reduce boil over on the last two cook cycles. I've experimented with the first time set as high as 75-80 seconds, but like you, I hate to clean up boil over.

For those of you asking about using water instead of milk: of course you can! You can also use rice milk or almond milk. And some microwaves are going to take longer--4 min. in mine, and I stir it halfway through. You just have to tweak it till it comes out the way you want it.

My preference is 1/3 or 1/2 cup of oats and double that amount water or milk. 1min 15 for the 1/3 cup, 1 min 30 for the 1/2 cup. Comes out perfect almost every time. If the oats are a little too think, throw in another very small splish and it's good to go.

    • @Quaker
      @Quaker  5 років тому +7

@shockXsmoke Many factors can contribute to this, such as oven wattage, age of the oven and microwave pattern within the oven. Bowls with very straight sides (i.e., coffee cups, mixing bowls), regardless of size, tend to have a much greater chance of boil-over. The ideal bowl is shallow with gently sloping sides and a broad rim, such as a soup or pasta bowl. Hope this helps!
