I'm here in 2024 and I am crying while listening to a truly remarkable voice. I am crying for two reasons. Obviously I am crying because it is Whitney Huston one of the best voices ever. The second reason is because it is not Whitney I am hearing. It is a shade of Whitney still giving her best at the moment, but not her best ever. I know I will get savaged for saying this, go ahead I deserve it, but you can't hurt me worse than the devastation of watching a tragedy unfold before your eyes and be helpless to do a thing about it. So I watch this and hear the voice of an angel in places. I will also remember a voice at it's prime that could thrill a soul and move a nation. It was obvious that by this time she could not hold or sustain the notes. She compensated by shortening them and doing runs, but she is clearly past her best at this point.

Constantly reinventing herself when her voice changed and still knowing how to use her voice, made many of push aside the fact that she was using drugs. But being on top, in a marriage to a man who was not faithful, people running to the press to make money off her! So many miscarriages, touring constantly, father wanting to sue her. It's so much to deal with, constantly having to be picture perfect, mindful of what she says, how she presents herself, rumors about her being gay, than having tiffs with her mother, everyone using her as an ATM. I'm surprised she lasted as long as she did. Not many female artists have riched the status she had. It's enough to drive anyone to have some kind of addiction. Many people couldn't handle 1/2 the stuff she endured. And still able to smile and perform as if there are no problems at all. I love and respect her and I don't judge her at all.

I have been obsessed lately with her performance of the song at the Grammys in 1989. It was as perfection as perfection can be. Listening to this side by side I have no issues with it. First of all she's almost a decade older. The difference of light 25 and 35 Natalie sure but at that age it starts changing. I see a woman who lost some of that ultra prettynesss in her voice, but she gained that maturity in her voice, that great black female singers get in their 30s and 40s. And another thing, she wasn't even trying here, like she was at the Grammys, becauseShe was young then and had something to prove. At this point her life she didn't have s*** to prove. r u sure??? this was one of her worst performance ever. She is one of my favorite singers, but she did poorly in this performance. She barely hit any high notes . She seemed to have difficulty hitting the high notes , which used to be an easy thing for her.
