I Bushcrafted A Crossbow from Deadwood And My Old Bow

- Greg sets out into the Canadian wilderness with an idea he's had since his first time on History's Alone... Turning his regular recurve bow into an EPIC bushcraft crossbow!
Greg is a self-taught survivalist from Canal Flats, British Colombia, who, since he was a boy, has read nearly every book on the topic. When he is not out in the wilderness, he is a professional dry-waller. He started his first bow drill fire when he was thirteen and spent the next forty years learning bushcraft and studying plants and edibles. He has even developed some of his own survival techniques and is a skilled hunter with both a bow and a slingshot.

I think it's great Greg that you're helping the community as well.
Hi Greg I love your caring for nature and passion for others its really melts my heart. You are a beautiful soul God Blessed us.
Very happy to see Greg ovens tonight made my day better
Great idea .Love the trigger mechanism .Well done Greg.
The trigger mechanism with its fork was an unexpected touch.🙂
@@jamesellsworth9673 Indeed it was .Very clever idea .
You have an Amazing Heart and great attitude. So happy to hear and see there are still good hearted people in this hurtful broken world
This might be the best survival tool you’ve made yet! Awesome awesome work!!
Look at all that wood 🪵 those trees 🌳 are so beautiful.
Greg ovens just made first place at the Provincial Science Fair. Great Job Mr. Ovens!!!!!!
Was a fun video to watch. Looking forward to the next one!
Nothing better than seeing a Greg Ovens video posted !! Just made my Friday night
Greg is a legend
Yep
Another great lesson and video. Thank you Greg Ovens!
I have never been a rich man so there have been a lot of times that I wouldn't have money for something I needed, so I would build it. To this day I still build and I am 71 years young. That"s how I became a metal artist. So I love the videos you do on Bushcraft. I consider anyone that can build for their own needs a self made engineer. You are an awesome teacher my friend.
Greg's vidoes and a couple of beers are a start to my weekends
Love the idea but enjoy being able to actually watch you do these projects in person
Another great video, I’m sure it will be! About to start thank you 🙏 ❤
Absolutely one of my favorites :) Love your videos :)
Very impressed very impressed and I enjoy watching your videos they are very helpful
Thanks for the uploads Greg. Tried your gravity log fire setup. Didn’t work but was a blast trying. I’ll try this next.
Great Crossbow
Cheers Greg

Hello from British Columbia Canada

Had no idea Greg was on Alone AND had no idea Zach Fowler was either let alone both on the same season. Found something new to watch
Not to mention Zach won that season.

Thanks Greg, great video 👍
Awesome work. we haven't see that moose hunt yet!
I don’t know why Greg isn’t over by 1m subscribers. By far my favourite bush rafter on UA-cam.
Cause a lot of people are ignorant
@@MesquiteMan won’t find a more informed bushcrafting Chanel that does real life scenarios than Greg’s. Everyone else does short videos on one thing. Joe robinets good but not as good.
Thanks Greg
He gets some good smoke.
You Rock Gregg!!😊
Whoa! That's cool!
I lived as a kid in Oyama and picked wild asparagus along the old railroad right-,of-way every spring. Then they sprayed with herbicide one year and there was none left from then on.
They just can't learn the bad effects of that on the environment
Yay, a new episode of Old Canadian hippy does cool stuff in the woods. Greg is an OG bushcrafter, he was doing this stuff before it was popular.
OG znaczy one great ?
@@adamosantonio1499 og stands for original gangster
@@ryanmiller5535 and sometimes it means just "original"
@@beatnik6806No it doesn’t
Wicked bad good !
Dude that's sweet!!!
That’s a genius invention
I would use that bow vertically, it’s paper tuned that way
Greg ever since I found ur channel I'm a big fan!! So cool you're a great man with so much wisdom and knowledge to share.. thank you Greg... jordan from north east Scotland.. ❤
Awsome video Greg
Great job, Greg. Pretty cool 👍
I liked this video. It makes me curious if it is possible to craft a crossbow like that with natural materials you get from nature. And I mean all of it, from the strings, the trigger, and the wood.
Yes you could but it would take a very long time
I have seen it done on UA-cam. Making the cordage would be a big challenge. The base resource might not be available.
You are awesome!
Prop's to the True Canadian Outdoorsman, Love watching and learning, keep it up Greg,THANKS EH.
That's a lot of work, I'm impressed :) I couldn't see it when you picked up the branch but wow, look at it now :)
nice good bit of fun
That thing is bad ass I would add some crosshairs then move it around until it's accurate
Back from Robin Hood days ,lol new name Ovens outlaw day lol
Cool project! Thanks for sharing! Can you think of a way to add a smooth, quiet safety? For Finn? Well, plus you don't want it to accidently go off before aiming at the bear! That would be bad...
Combining my love of the outdoors with medieval weapons ❤️
Love it😊
Spartan Class no doubt....that trigger block would be a nasty projectile if she blew off with forearm presented in front, splinter, or ricochet towards flesh.
Takes a lot of courage to manipulate and operate a medieval weapon of war.
Well executed THOR !
All of you videos are awesome Greg! I’m always excited when I see post a new one. Thank you as always!
Hey Greg! First off, love your videos mate. Watching from Australia and your content is awesome - makes me wanna live in the outback for a few years!
Just question on pennycress - how do you get rid of bitter flavour? I love the taste but it’s a little bitter. Or is that part of the taste you’re supposed to enjoy?
Cheers mate
That's amazing! You are so crafty! Very inspirational!
Great video Greg, I would love to see you make an atlatl if you haven't already!
Very cool making a crossbow! Always thought it would be cool to make my own CB!! Keep it coming Greg!
I love it Greg, “if you don’t like it, watch it anyway”, priceless
I love frog legs.
Gimme 3 pair ❤️😎
Delicious 😎
Grilled?
You never cease to amaze us mate ..love how you just keep it real and simple you are a true champion to alot of us..thank you mr ovens stay safe brother..
28:20 perfect focus switch 😀 Man, what a cool build and idea! You always come up with cool stuff. I hope you'll show the crossbow in some real action some time. Stay safe, Greg!
Very fun and insitefull to see.
You are an true bushcraft inventor!
Love your video's ❤
Greg Ovens is pure rock n roll.
xbow tutorial build really helps
Do you have any videos on good quality gear? Is hammock camping viable for cold weather? What is the best type of knife, hammock, sleeping bag, and any other gear you would suggest for long-term camping in all weather conditions?
Should try mounting a red dot scope on it.
Another awesome project Greg👍🏼 watching here from Pennsylvania. Hope you can figure out what’s wrong with the ford also. I remembered you said you dropped the tank and fixed the fuel pump but then it still had issues. I’m always working on my cars also and somthing is going wrong lol. I swear it never stops but hey I don’t have any car payments :)
I love the concept Greg. I think if you center the bow down your stock your shot will be more on line instead of to the right so far. I think I'll try to make one with mine. Keep up the great videos.
Your videos are always awesome! Thank you. Not only are they fun to watch,I usually learn something from each video.
From the wild garden to the crossbow crossover, you had my full attention at every step. Your videos are always interesting. Have a great week Greg. 🐝
Good little fire going, cold brew and Greg and fin with the entertainment!! I couldn't think of a better place to be this evening and doing and watching what I love!!
Wisdom Greg. You have it and that's why I dig your channel.
This one was as daft as a brush. Still watched it in a state of horror. Thanx Greg
Never angle it unless necessary. That just throws unnecessary variables into the equation. As far as aim goes.. awesome setup, definitely a success.
Sick 🔥 , do more of these love your videos
Fun project Greg! Great watching your handiwork!
Pretty nice❤😂
What happening mr. Ovens😎
My Dad knew wild asparagus. We would be cruising down I75 and he would pull over and have me jump out of the car and go pick it!! Sure wish he was still here to do it!!💚
Awesome!!! I had the same idea but we can't hunt with a bow lock unless you're handicapped here!!
Hahahahaha Super Awesomenesssssss
Hey Greg; I have missed you man. Have you been making a longer/survival/Vid? Isn't Lamb's Quarter your Fav. Veg., like Spinache? Che'. Now,? Why do you need Hot-Water out in the Garden, /Hanging out back there!? (Shower)? I watch & wait for everything that you do! You Never Disappoint us! Always-Teaching Something New! I Truly Enjoy! Thank You & Fin! GBU.,SM.,NZ., ✌♥️😁🤗👍😎🙏🏞
Greg, have you ever made tea from the wild asparagus roots? It is known as the flying herb by ancient taoists because it induces dreams of being able to fly.
No have to try it
Throwing an idea out there, I bought 2 pull knives for pulling bark/level planes and curved planes. I think there is a lot of use in them. Just like having a small wood chisel. Saves energy and time= life saver. Rather not make so many mistakes with just a knife and hatchet, but still doable. Awesome Job! I really enjoy woodwork. More branches in small area of wood= strength (for handles or wooden mallet for example).
Thank you for your video tutorials. We're similar in age and I'm ready to change the trajectory of my life in a major way. I'm studying your vids and learning a great deal. Very much appreciated. Take care, stay safe, God bless.
I always enjoy your fishing videos, and this is one of my favorite videos so far! I hope you're doing well and you're healthy and happy ❤🎉
Amazing craftsmanship 😂 fun times ✌️
Bloody Good Design Mate!! Nice one!👍 Good trigger system on that! You should publish your trap plans in a book and crossbow ideas!
Mr. Ovens! Another awesome idea and video. Thanks for all the entertainment you provide us with
Greg .. you have helped me through my struggles and toughest times in my life . I thank you for that and I will always appreciate you my brother
Awesome,I did something similar with my daughter her bow.
Well done
I'm not a hunter but, being a machinist gives me an appreciation for fabrication and engineering. This was very interesting to me. Thanks for sharing.
Greg I think holding it vertically (Normal up and down.) This may improve the drop and maintain the true direction.
Perty awesome. Looks like a valuable project to know how to do.
Keep up the good work and God bless.
Hi Greg from Oroville California! Love your videos.. out on hip replacement and passing the time!
Love it Greg! Keep it up man! Stay wild
I never had a doubt you would figure it out 😉 your problem solving skills are really amazing! Always look forward to your videos
His videos hasn't been recommend to me recently 😳 does anyone have the same problem? Well, on the bright side, atleast I have couple new videos I haven't seen 😎
hey there Greg great video i was thinking about doing the same thing thanks for giving me some ideas about how to do it. please make a video of you hunting with your cross bow looking forward to your next adventure thanks
Great video again thank you Greg used to love making long bows in the Australian bush as a kid but could never make a crossbow cheers across the miles
Great video Greg you brought up a great point when you're hungry and you're tired and you're trying to hunt your focus is not going to be as good but that crossbow that you put together really takes a lot of that guesswork out of hunting with a bow good job
Would love to see you catch and cook with this bow.. fckin love ya videos greg..so relaxing 👍
All his videos are fun to watch. Cool cat even under a Mosquito attack. Hey that rhymes 🤪
First thing to practice is keep yer fingers well below the string, i relearn this every time i don`t shoot for a year or two, they`ll smart ya for a while...
