- Опубліковано 15 гру 2022
- Just as Greg starts catching fish from his kayak and finally feels like his luck is turning around, a hook stabs DEEP into his hand and Amós must rush to help him. Before disaster struck, Greg made progress on his Bushcraft Recliner Chair build.
Greg is a self-taught survivalist from Canal Flats, British Colombia, who, since he was a boy, has read nearly every book on the topic. When he is not out in the wilderness, he is a professional dry-waller. He started his first bow drill fire when he was thirteen and spent the next forty years learning bushcraft and studying plants and edibles. He has even developed some of his own survival techniques and is a skilled hunter with both a bow and a slingshot.

I got a clam shell underneath the finger nail at nine years. We were waiting for the ferry to PEI. Once on the ferry, the throbbing pain started, was so bad they called ahead to have a doctor ready to deal with it, eight hours later. He understood the pain was so bad, he ended up doing it for nothing. And at 3 o’clock in the morning. Thank you whomever you was. 🥰
I love how you guys went to the hospital for help and basically just ended up using their medical supplies thats just priceless
We all have bad times, we all have accidents but how many of us have the guts to put it out here like Greg has? I would rather follow a ‘real' person but for those of you who are so negative, don’t watch…then you won’t need to comment so derisively. Hang in Greg and Amos, plenty of us enjoy sharing your adventure 👍🤝🤝
38:27 hahaha. This episode was crazy. You’re a trooper, Greg.
I had a really bad hook accident when I was 12. I hooked a ~8 lb blue catfish. I went to pull the hook out and the rod was under tension; the hook popped out and stuck itself in my cheek. To top it all off, the fish jumped and it’s barb on the side fin went through the thin part of my hand. I was doubled over in pain with a hook in my cheek and my grandpa was almost on the ground in tears laughing at the sight of me. 3 stitches and a lollipop later, and I was good as new.
Hope they gave Greg a lollipop 🍭 😆
Man, I know a guy who had a really bad motorcycle accident, was busted up for months, shoulders arms collar bones all broken. Anyway, when he was getting released his mates shouted him a deep-sea fishing tour, so he is only out of hospital for a few days, goes fishing, catches a fish is pulling it in, it's nearly in, SNAP!!!! the lead sinker weight smashed him right in the eye ball, crushed his eye, had to go back into hospital to have his eye removed.
Boy you got some trash luck. Easy to get hooked when you’re tired or even not! I hooked a big catfish once and lost it it and had a backlash that caught my forearm with the same luck. The worst part was the dirty water. I got a neat little makeshift dirt tattoo from it. Hope they gave you some antibiotics!
Least I didn’t get barbed though. 😅 Greg’s luck seems worse than a lot of us haha
Aw, man! Same happened to me catfishing with my grandpa at 8. Hook in my cheek while actively trying to avoid my mom's wild casting! She got me anyway! She said "don't tell Grandpa!" So my brother yells "Grandpa!!!" Haha! He was very stoic about it. It was a fishing lure with multiple barbed treble hooks. He was usually a laughing friendly man but he was very serious and said this child needs to go to the hospital. Shots to numb my face hurt the worst. My mom got me a grey kitten. The ER gave me a Garfield bandaid. Ha! I tried to use the string trick to get my friends hook out of his finger but it also was stuck on the muscle in his finger and he began to have a seizure in the boat from the pain. When we went to the emergency room their tools were rusted and wouldn't cut! Teehee.
Hope your finger heals fast! I love that despite having a hook in your finger you were still super happy you caught a fish!! 😄
This has been kind of a tough venture for Greg. Going to need a redemption arc after this one is over. Hope he is ok.
Hate to agree but at least it's honesty bad
Honestly
Beginning of the end
Joking.
@@hnewc1919 have you ever gone fishing? You don't always catch a fish. It happens.
Nice episode Greg!
My parents always said: you can achieve anything you want, if you want it badly enough and never give up.
Greg!! I love the realness in your videos. As said before, your videos eases my anxiety. Thank you for the real content, Greg. Don't change.
I really appreciate these episodes and look forward to them every time. Love from Sweden to Greg, Amós and everyone else here :)
I love Greg. He's such a trooper💪 ur in my prayers 🙏 that u healed up good. Love you 2 Finn 🐕🦺 lol
Now THAT was some cringe-worthy content, and THIS is definitely a 'survival' challenge! You absolutely earned a smashed like button, Greg! Glad you were okay and wishing better luck in the next episode. I'm hooked on Greg Ovens!
You guys rock! Not easy to be out there enduring weeks of this, as beautiful as it is. Just want to express on behalf of all your viewers how much we love and appreciate what you two are doing. It's adventure and friendship, the greatest journey on earth. Stay safe and enjoy the ride. When you are old and look back, you will not be disappointed. Peace brothers.
Hi Greg,I like your chair wood simple and easy, Amos is good too, I remember my nan always said, if you sleep every afternoon I will grow fast, I think it does help, Stay Safe.
Fin is a huge help. I wouldn’t want that bear sneaking up on me every night! Good 🐕
Times like this shows just how tough surviving in the wild is tougher then it looks,
Good to see they got it out at least.🙂 When I was 12 I was walking down to the lake with a rapala with a rattle. My dog thought it was a toy and grabbed it from my hand. The hooks ripped out of the dogs mouth but got buried deep in the palm of my hand. I definitely have big respect for hooks with barbs!!
The most unco, accident prone dude ever but we love you Greg, keep ‘em coming!
At least he caught something this time himself lol 😂 🤣 love watching him thoe
Enjoyed Greg least your luck is changing on fishing you caught something yourself lol 😂🤣
Glad you're ok Greg!! I am enjoying these shows immensely!! Thank you!
Damn Greg that sucks man! You handled it like a champ though. We appreciate you and your hard work making these videos thank you so much!
What a beautiful country we live in ❤
Top video as always, adding one of my Pop's quotes - "You see that dog over there, he will bite you, see that horse over there, he will kick you, you see that person over there, there is no telling what that thing will do to you".
I grew up in the 80's when "tough love" was trending. "You'd lose your head if it wasn't attached to your body..." was my dad's favorite saying. Thanks for the vid.
Looks painful Greg.
Glad you were close to hospital. Glad your okay now.
Thanks for the video adventure.
I most sincerely hope that there is no lasting nerve damage to your finger Greg! I would urge you to use extra caution when your mind and body is getting less nutrients than it needs. Pay no attention to the snarky haters! They do not deserve your time or energy! I hope you have a Blessed Holiday Season. Thank you for all you do.
Glad you got it seen to. Stay safe out there Greg.
Sorry Greg, but I seen that happening a mile away.. Never grab your hook under tension. Always slack your line no matter what. I also learned the hard way and damn near lost two fingers to amputation. It took us 3 days to get back to shore. Oh Man, I can feel your pain.
Definitely mate your so right and also not whilst your bobbing about in a kayak, when your not the best at fishing to begin with,as you say seen it coming!!!
I was actually worrying about him hooking himself- the first time he did it (on camera) made me uncomfortable, and, to my surprise, he hooked himself about a half second after I thought 'he's going to get himself'. I'm almost never right about that kind of thing. I guess it speaks to Greg's luck on this trip.
Praying for you recover quick 🙏🏾
Edited. I forgot to tell you. You can drink ginger and Tumeric hot teas to help with aches and pains
Hey Greg, I noticed that at about the 21:05 mark you were sitting right in front of some stinging nettle, one of the most nutritious and healthful wild plants to make a good tea from. Really good energy booster!
No doubt that Finn was trying to find a way to pick up that huge log! 😂
That’s really hard work Greg and Amos are in a survival mode an it shows that’s is not easy to survive in the wild an amazing adventure and very real I hope that you do really good and enjoy make the best of it
Greg is absolutely correct, when a person is in survival mode, they need to achieve building a shelter, creating fire, find water and rendering safe to drink by using the fire. They have to establish a food source.
Once these essential survival elements are met, they are thriving. These two also have devolved self reliance, they do not require someone else to provide for them.
No occasionally Amós provides the fish but Greg finds other wild berries and mushrooms and he cooks for them. Their shelters are modern style shelters, hammocks and rain flys.
How are you steve?
Greg - 'Try not get old" was what you said. I'm a bit older than you, and a survivalist too. We cannot avoid age - however what you show, without maybe knowing it, is how to be a bushman and a survivor irrespective of age. It's us 'old' fellows that have developed real skills due to our circumstances, that can survive irrespective of age. It's experience and life skills that is survival. I embrace you mate - wish I could meet you, Amos, and Zack in person. If ever you wander down under in Australia, please touch base with me!!
God damn Greg lol, rough trip this one. Thanks for sharing the experience, all the best.
Hi Greg I’m glad you ok and better than ever.
Oh man heal up quick Greg! Hope your luck turns around, but it was great that you guys maintained high spirits and a good sense of humor through it all. 😊
I don't know which is more painful, pulling a hook out of a finger, or watching you cast a fishing pole. Glad you are okay!!
Or unhook anything.. :( poor guy
💯
It is the most awful cast i have ever seen. Love Greg but his cast, technique etc. is absolutely pathetic 🤦♂️
Dude his fishing is amazing insanely bad it kinda pisses me off when he blames luck and this and that. I love his videos but dude just practice more and change your techniques
I know what u mean man, love the guy but watching him cast a pole is so bad, youd think one of his friends would help him out and show how to properly
I always try to make sure there's slack when taking things off my hook when fishing in a kayak, otherwise it's a spring loaded trap! Sorry that happened to you Greg, but yet again another great episode and I can't wait for the rest of the adventure!
Hey you! good morning! I love you, even more now knowing your a MP fan!! My favorite skit is the Dinner scene, with the Vikings sing about Spam! My pops is a Navy Seal (UDc- Underwater demolition) He loves Spam so much, he painted a watercolor and framed his spam can from 1968. Amos is a super great friend to have a long on this experience. sorry to know that you caught yourself, ouch! My kid sister caught her bum cheek, and I couldn't help but pee my britches for laughing so hard at her dance off the dock, and into the water! Best wishes aye!❤
Glad you caught the biggest star on the sea. Keep up the awesome videos
Quite the adventure. Hope your finger will be OK. Merry Christmas 🎄⛄🎄
He looks like an artist, very funny and lovable, natural in every moment, good. I will wait for the next video release. great friends. Wishing you and your family a safe and happy Christmas.
OK, I hope you read this, your luck goes exactly how you expect it to, try changing how you think, do it slowly and dont beat up on yourself when you forget , but make your thoughts about what you do want as opposed to what you don't, and I love your videos tysm 😊
I love how you are up and say morning, good morning...
Good to see Greg and Amos got the hook sorted out so they can continue on. I guess Greg finely caught his limit.
Love watching Greg cast !!and fish ,
Awesome video! Thank you for it. Enjoyed the chair part, and hope your finger heals fast and good
When is Fenn going get a channel? He seems to have some pretty good adventures. Put a cam on that boy and let the adventures begin. Also hope Greg is doing better. And it's cool getting to know Amos.
Keep ' em coming Greg.
Thank you Greg excellent video, sorry for the accident, Glad you got the hook removed from your finger. Happy Holiday’s, be safe, stay healthy, & God Bless everyone.
Greg you are too funny sometimes. The expressions you make sometimes is hilarious.
It's not easy to sit on a rock or log when you get older Greg 🤣🤣🤣
Awesome show thank you for sharing.
There's only 1 rule... if you wanna eat...AMOS has to catch and cook it first 😁🤣
Best opening nailed it
I think your chair has revitalized your mood. So sorry you got hooked!
Right on Greg! Keep the content coming 👍
Hey Greg :-) this chair is a building of à century 😉 i love to whach your fight for this pièce if moeble 👍👍👍 anyway its so big pleasur to watch your vidéos :-) keep doing well you are the best 👍👍👍 friendly :-)
I love your gizmos and gadgets!
Well Greg, at least you can say instead of catching a fish, you caught yourself, good catching 😅🤕😭 when you were paddling the boat, I know it's painful, because it's happened to me before ,but I could not stop smiling😉😅
Awwwe Greg. You don’t have enough calories to function peak man. I’m sorry bro. That’s rough. I’m really glad you got Amos on the buddy system with Finn. Glad ya made it back to camp okay guys.🐸🍺🔪🔥
Well Greg you've been having pretty bad luck but that was pretty exciting episode every day is a new beginning 🐟👍🐕🐺🐟
I know ur pain. Did same with a 3" framing nail, with nailgun through middlefinger and into ring finger. Luckly the tip sheered off in my bone and the rest treveled over. Brought back that memory for me, while watching your video. Get better, fingers heal fast
Gregs a pro at catching fingers , he slays them
Hoping that bear doesn't get too comfortable there and start coming in to camp. Don't think which would keep me awake the sore thumb or the bear , you and Amos stay safe and feel better soon Greg.
OUCH!!! That would hurt!!! Good job dealing with it Greg!
Yall are Beasts!!! Glad your ok Greg!! Relax in your chair tomorrow, the finger is gonna hurt. Hopefully they gave you something for that. Till the next episode!!
Love your adventures 💕 and Amos is a great partner.Watching from New Zealand ♡♡♡
Dad always told me if there's no blood or bone's sticking out you'll live. It's amazing at the slightest comment or thought that triggers a memory of days long ago.😊👍
Nerve damage is no joke. All I can say is if you were in his shoes you wouldn't want to risk not being able to fill your finger for the rest of your life.
He’s like 80, the “rest of his life” is a few more years at best. Just finish the video series.
@@taylorwillis5556 get serious help, and quick. You need it bud
@@taylorwillis5556 😂 he is not 80 your horrible at estimating age 😂
Taylor rocks ef them all you know truth
So hungry build furniture what
That little show was fantastic😅
Hi greg ive had the same problem with a fishing hook in my finger last year in finland where i spend my holidays on an outdoor and fishing adventure.my traveling partner found a way to the next hospital about 60km from there...on the way to the hospital ive drunk nearly a half bottle of vodka...at the end everythink was ok...and ive got a little "suvinier"on my way back to germany...best greatings from here toralf👍👍👍
Greg got a fish!!
We appreciate you risking life & limb to bring us these series! You guys both have great hearts. It's amazing how medical facilities don't know how to deal with Fish hooks so you have to end up pretty much doing it yourself and last time the pliers at the emergency room was rusted! Ha!! The nerve runs along the inside of each finger and nerves grow/heal about 1 mm a year so if you lose feeling it'll eventually come back! You were having trouble with one of your hands working before in your vids, Greg, that seems to not bother you anymore? I was traveling through Canada to Alaska when you had the bed bugs and I had a feeling to sleep in my vehicle to avoid bed bugs for some reason and I'm glad I did! I went thru where u got Fin, etc. When Amòs said the first time he found a huge Puffball he thought it was from another world - when we were children in farm country in southern Wisconsin, we would find old Puffballs larger than basketballs and we too thought they were alien eggs or something! Ha! Where I spore out the Puffballs, there are now patches of a dozen huge Puffballs within feet of each other. We also have mini Puffballs that are like button mushrooms that grow in bunches on stumps and remain small. Not sure their name! Thanks again for the vids, guys! We feel your pain and are glad when you eat well & sleep well in all your vids! ✌️ PEACE
Man I’m sorry about that hook! I love it that y’all had to go and pull it out on your own anyway! Poor guys!
Better a finger than an eye. Good lesson for all watching. Hook injuries are extremely common. Love the show.
You're bound to have some luck catching Dungies but they need to be at least 6.5 inches so I dunno how you're gonna measure em up haha! Ask Ramos to help.lol. You're allowed 4 per day each.
and Ramos Bow is looking fab. Maybe need sit back and relax on that skookum recliner awhile, keep the home fire goin. Best of luck to you both.
I just started watching these video's very informative the hook in greg's hand ouch, dang be carefull ,stay safe
Looking forward to seeing this recliner. I'll have to carve one up myself . I hope that finger is all healed up.
Incredible the amount of bad luck you had on this trip
Letting lures go, with a tension on the line, from the hand, is a no-go: ) Old friend of mine did this many years ago, and just pulled the hook out in panic from the hand, and it got bloody and messy. But out like this, on 30 days survival, thats another thing. I would be really grumpy within a few days in, I think. And to then record and entertain at the same time, I would not like. Nice that there are people like Greg out there.
Shiver me FINGERS!!!
good show
Dang Greg, hope you're luck improves soon, hope you heal fast,, stay safe you and Amos, and Finn, enjoying your video s
Greg my heart goes out to you I know how that feels
Your chair build and Monty Python…..I needed those😁 thank you😊
I always love to hear Non-British people liking monthy python, it's great humour!
I like greg and he is skilled but he cant keep blaming luck on the fishing 😂😂
I cant express how much I enjoy your videos. I'm sorry this ones been a rough go. But that Monty Python skit 👌👌👌 Hilarious!!
I loved Gregg's version of that skit. great voice haha
I feel like Greg's heart isn't in this youtube thing anymore.
You noticed it too huh?
I think he's trying too hard... He should do videos on identifying plants, details on how to make a smoker in nature, berrie wine, wild gardening. All this "30/15/7 days of survival" its too risky, complicated, and take too long. He can also have like a 10/15 minutes series where he tells stories about his past experiences on the woods, I would gladly listen to him drinking some coffee.
Finally a catch 🤗
Sorry you had that happened but glad your ok. Can't believe you'll still had to get the hook out yourself lol. But what are friends for lol. Just glad your ok and back at it. My mom and dad would always tell me never to give up. Well till the next's one GodBless and stay safe
Heal up quick man, love your videos.
Glad you're ok.
Greg caught a Great Greg Emperor, congratulations,I've heard you only have to eat them once.
Keep your chin up Greg 😜
Love from your family of fans in Australia, and love to*Zac Fowler
Greg, My favorite is The Four Yorkshiremen with Rowan Atkins, it's can provide useful humor therapy. " Oh when we were poor, we hadn't the price for a cup of tea, without milk, or sugar, or tea, Rowan - " all we could manage was to suck on a damp cloth" Carry on brother!
I was thinkin U guys were going to have an involuntary squatch show there for a minute 💥
finally, some bushcraft
I love fishing but I am so paranoid of hooks these days after getting two of the treble hooks stuck in my finger way past the barbs. I had to go to the hospital and they cut the hooks and pulled them out the way they went in. They were in the tip also which is so more sensitive and believe me you really don't want to have to go through that pain I did so be very careful. I now stick a hook into something before tying it on the line and I stay clear of trebles.
Get well Greg! Still enjoying your videos!
what a crazy couple of days that was 😜
